ESCONDIDO - Ethel Louise Dougherty, 77, died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, in Escondido.
Born April 27, 1923, in St. Paul, Kan., she lived in Escondido for more than 20 years. She was a homemaker and enjoyed playing bingo and attending the Joslyn Senior Center in Escondido.
Mrs. Dougherty was preceded in death by her husband, John Dougherty. She is survived by her son, Ronald Dougherty of Georgia; daughters Alice Dougherty and Patty Dimmick, both of Escondido; brothers and sister-in-law Joe and Gene Bell of Whittier, Raymond Bell of Idaho and Harold Bell of San Diego; sisters Bernadette Werley of Hemet, Dorothy Hughes of Poway, Theresa McDonnell and Rosalie Peterson, both of Fallbrook, and Karen Gayer of Oceanside; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., with a rosary recited at 7 p.m., today, Aug. 15, at McLeod Mortuary, Escondido Chapel. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, at Resurrection Church in Escondido, with the Rev. David Sereno officiating. A private burial will take place at Green Acres Memorial Park in Bloomington.

Hardy Terrien, 92
ESCONDIDO - Hardy Terrien, 92, died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, in Escondido.
Born June 20, 1908, in Chazy, N.Y., he lived in Escondido for 30 years. He was a master took maker.
Mr. Terrien was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen M. Cullen, in 1988; four brothers; and one sister.
A private cremation, with inurnment, is planned.
Eternal Hills Mortuary is handling arrangements.

Elmer Bogart, 87
VANCOUVER, Wash. - Dr. Elmer P. Bogart, DVM, 87, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2000, of congestive heart failure.
Born June 11, 1913, in Orange County, he lived in Hemet, Tulare and Vista. He earned a degree in animal husbandry at Washington State University in 1949 and served in the U.S. Army in the 970th Counter Intelligence Corps during World War II. He was a veterinarian in Tulare and Vista for many years. He enjoyed photography, gardening and building sound systems and was a member of the Elks and Masons.
Mr. Bogart is survived by his wife of 64 years, Edyth S. Bogart; sons Rex Bogart and Dennis Bogart; brothers David Bogart and Kenneth Bogart; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Aug. 18, at Northwoods Cemetery in Ridgefield, Wash.
The family suggests memorial donations to the Elks National Foundation for children.

James Frayser, 76
ESCONDIDO - James L. Frayser II, 76, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, in Escondido.
Born Aug. 14, 1923, in St. Louis, he lived in Escondido for 35 years. He was a field service representative for McDonnell Aircraft for 20 years and served in the Missouri National Guard from 1939 to 1940. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1941 to 1946 and in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1952.
Mr. Frayser is survived by his wife of 53 years, Shirley G. Frayser of Escondido; son and daughter-in-law James Scott and Linda Frayser of Oklahoma; daughters and sons-in-law Linda and Normal Watson and Sheila and Mark Creighton, all of Escondido, and Kathy and Rex Lawrence of Oklahoma; sister Mozell Anthonopoulas of Missouri; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today, Aug. 15, at the Church of Christ in Escondido, with Kenneth Sterling officiating. A private burial will take place at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in Point Loma.

Zachariah Merkel, 21
ESCONDIDO - Zachariah Zebedee Merkel, 21, died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, in Escondido.
Born June 10, 1979, in Escondido, he lived in Escondido his entire life. He was a maintenance worker for Burlington Coat Factory and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, where he had attended school.
Mr. Merkel is survived by his mother and stepfather, Cheryl and Robert Sterling of New Baltimore, Mich.; daughter Vanessa Marie Merkel of Escondido; brothers Joel Merkel and Andrew Merkel, both of Escondido; sister-in-law Norma Merkel of Escondido; and sister Ann Marie Merkel of Escondido.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 15, at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary. A Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
A trust fund is being set up for his daughter, Vanessa Merkel. Contact the family for trust fund information.

Herbert Andrews, 83
OCEANSIDE - Herbert W. Andrews, 83, died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, of lung cancer.
Born Dec. 15, 1916, in Lynn, Mass., he lived in Oceanside for 16 years. He worked for General Electric before retiring in 1978 and served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Andrews is survived by his wife of 56 years, Theresa Andrews of Oceanside; son and daughter-in-law Keith and Karen Andrews of Temecula; daughters and sons-in-law Barbara and Gerald Patterson of Moreno Valley and Paula and Jeffrey Ochoa of Colorado Springs, Colo.; grandchildren Jennifer, Daniel, Ryan and Jacqueline; and cousins Elmer and Rachel Davis.
No service will be held at the request of the deceased. A private cremation is planned with cremains to be scattered at sea.
The family suggests memorial donations to Hospice of the North Coast, 5421 Avenida Encinas, Suite N, Carlsbad, CA 92008.

Sara Bowen, 82
BURBANK - Sara Hope Bowen, 82, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, in Burbank.
Born April 29, 1918, in Los Angeles, she lived in Burbank for one year and had lived in Vista for 22 years. She was a homemaker and a member and past matron of Order of the Eastern Star in Vista.
Mrs. Bowen was preceded in death by her husband, Simon Strickland Bowen, in 1988. She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law Grant and Barbara Fully of Valencia and Ernest Fully of Las Vegas; daughter Carolyn Riggs of San Diego; two brothers; two sisters; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, at Allen Brothers Mortuary, Vista Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 12:30 p.m. at the mortuary, with Star of Vista OES officiating. A private cremation is planned with cremains to be scattered at sea.

Wendell Stevens, 71
VALLEY CENTER - Wendell Ross Stevens, 71, died Thursday, Aug., 10, 2000, of cancer, at his home.
Born Aug. 11, 1928, in Maireville Ohio, he lived in Valley Center for nine years. He was co-founder and co-owner of MW Construction Inc. in Escondido and served as a lance corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Escondido.
Mr. Stevens is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ann E. Stevens of Valley Center; mother Geneva M. Stevens of Morrow, Ohio; father Marvin F. Stevens of Hillsboro, New Mexico; sons and daughters-in-law David and Peggy Stevens of San Diego and Mike and Jeanette Stevens of Valley Center; brother and sister-in-law Wayne and JoAnn Stevens of Loveland, Ohio; sister and brother-in-law Gayle and Gordon Wilson of Maireville, Ohio; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A private family ceremony will be held.
The family suggests memorial donations to Elizabeth Hospice, 150 W. Crest St., Escondido, CA 92025.
North County Cremation is handling arrangements.

Barbara Hall, 88
DEL MAR - Barbara S. Hall, 88, died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, at her home.
Born June 29, 1912, in Norwalk, she lived in Del Mar for eight years. She was a teacher for the Larkspur School District for 28 years.
Mrs. Hall was preceded in death by her husband, Earl B. Hall. She is survived by her cousins, Stephen W. Littlejohn of Albuquerque, N.M., Timothy Littlejohn of Poulsbo, Wash., Judy Brinton of Irvine, Randall Brinton of La Crescenta, Jack Brinton of Leesville, S.C., and Branda Howell of Prescott, Ariz.
No service will be held at the request of the deceased. A private cremation is planned.

George Winch, 92
VISTA - George Edward Winch, 92, died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at his home.
Born July 31, 1908, in Stillwater, Minn., he lived in Vista for 25 years. He was a plant manager for Federal Cartridge Corp. for 43 years and a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Mr. Winch is survived by his son, George S. Winch of Fallbrook; daughter Pamela Winch-Matoyoshi of Oceanside; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23, at the Vista Masonic Center, conducted by Vista Masonic Lodge #687. Burial will take place at Linwood Cemetery in Linwood, Minn.
The family suggests memorial donations to Elizabeth Hospice, 150 W. Crest St., Escondido, CA 92025; or Vista Masonic Lodge #687, 761 Eucalyptus Ave., Vista, CA 92083.

Warren Enochs, 81
SUN CITY - Warren Gale Enochs, 81, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, at his home in Sun City.
Born Feb. 21, 1919, he lived in Burbank and Sun City.
Mr. Enochs served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He was a self-employed electrician and enjoyed dancing, boating, camping and flying.
Mr. Enochs is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marguerite Enochs; daughters Judy Enochs of Sun City, Gayle Enochs of Canyon Lake; son Warnie Enochs of Murrieta; sisters Bobbi Cowan of Sun City and Marji Dickinson of Coeur d' Alene, Idaho; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Glen Goodwill, 95
HEMET - Glen Taylor Goodwill, 95, died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, at Hemet Valley Medical Center.
Born Sept. 19, 1904, in Lawton, Okla., he lived in Sun City for 36 years. He earned a degree and doctorate at the University of Redlands and a master's degree from USC. He worked in education for 35 years, retiring after eight years as superintendent of the Santa Monica City School District. He was a founding member of the Sun City Bible Church, serving as elder, and chairman of the Menifee Valley Medical Center Foundation, serving as liaison between the hospital and the community. The Glen T. Goodwill Award is given each year to a citizen in the community who shows outstanding volunteerism.
Mr. Goodwill is survived by his wife, Opal Goodwill of Hemet; and son and daughter-in-law Gordon G. and Lorene Goodwill of Watsonville.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, at the Sun City Bible Church. Burial will take place at Perris Valley Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial donations to the Sun City Bible Church, 26815 Murrieta Road, Sun City, CA 92585; or the Menifee Valley Medical Foundation, 28400 McCall Blvd., Sun City, CA 92585.

Ernest Sprinkel, 66
TEMECULA - Ernest D. Sprinkel, 66, died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, at his home.
Born Dec. 16, 1933, in Ontario, he lived in Temecula for 10 years. He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean and Vietnam wars, retiring as a major. He received a Bronze Star. He enjoyed opera and was an amateur historian.
Mr. Sprinkel was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Bente M. Sprinkel, in 1996; and his father, Ernest Sprinkel, in 1986. He is survived by his mother, Virginia Howell Sprinkel of Temecula; son and his fiancee Ernest C. Sprinkel and Anne Ejrnaes of Copenhagen, Denmark; daughter and son-in-law Christina and Richard Thomas; two brothers; two sisters; and granddaughter Katie.
A private cremation is planned with inurnment to take place at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18, at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in Point Loma, with full military honors.

Greg Davis, 44
AUBURN - Greg Davis, 44, died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, of cancer, at his home in Auburn.
Born Sept. 4, 1955, in Whittier, he lived in Auburn. He ran G. Alan Davis Construction in Temecula.
Mr. Davis is survived by his wife, Penelope Davis; children Brevon Davis and twins Boyce and Brittany Davis; parents Jack and Mary A. Davis of Temecula; brother Larry Davis of Wildomar; and sister Marva Lou Davis of Chino Valley, Ariz.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 19, at his home in Auburn.

Gary Dennis, 34
MURRIETA - Gary Leroy Dennis Jr., 34, died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, in a motorcycle accident in Murrieta.
Born Nov. 26, 1965, in Harbor City, he lived in the Torrance area and in Murrieta for 11 years. He was a 1983 graduate of West High School and worked in construction. He graduated from the Computer Education Institute in Riverside.
Mr. Dennis was preceded in death by his father, Gary Dennis Sr. He is survived by his mother, Ruth Dennis of Murrieta; sister and brother-in-law Ronda and Wayne Bowen; one niece; nephew Vincent Bowen of Pomona; and aunts and uncles John Cassinelli, Edith Simpson, Linda Kwak, Bill and Fleeta Dennis, Ruthie and Jim Schooler, Lawrence and Karen Breit, Helen and Joe Resong and Garry and Laura Middleton.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, at Murrieta United Methodist Church.

Mary Rarick, 67
ESCONDIDO - Mary L. Rarick, 67, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, at Palomar Medical Center.
Born April 15, 1933, in Calexico, Calif., she lived in Escondido.
Mrs. Rarick is survived by her mother, Sally Salas of San Marcos; sons and daughters-in-law Steven Rarick of Escondido, Kevin Rarick of Galt, Randy Rarick of Winchester, Todd and Angie Rarick of Phoenix and Alan and Cheryl Rarick of Galt; and grandchildren Wade, Truitt, Nick, Ryanne, Trevor and Cory.
North County Cremation Service is handling arrangements.

Chieko Edwards, 73
ESCONDIDO - Chieko Edwards, 73, died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, at her home.
Born Feb. 26, 1927, in Kaminoyama, Japan, she lived in Escondido for three years. She was a musician and dancer at Miyako Restaurant for more than 20 years.
Mrs. Edwards is survived by her son, Monty Edwards of Las Vegas; daughters Connie Rushman of Escondido, Kimberly Caylor of Auburn and Shawn Mahoney of Houston, British Columbia; grandchildren John Medina Jr., Matthew Caylor, Christopher Caylor, Ryan Mahoney and Kyle Krutz; and great-grandchildren John F. Medina, Eric Medina, Marissa Caylor and Devon Caylor.
A private family service is planned.
