Helen K. Wedel
No services are planned for Helen K. Wedel, who died Friday at an area convalescent hospital. She was 89.
Born in Corfu, Greece, she was a Watsonville resident and had lived in the area for 35 years.
She served as a chief yeoman in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Wedel was office manager and co-owner with her husband, David, of Wedel Nursery for 28 years.
She loved caring for her dogs.
Wedel is survived by her husband of 53 years, David.
Her ashes will be scattered at sea.
Arrangements are by Davis Memorial Chapel.

Lillian Rose Castro
Services will be Sunday for Lillian Rose Castro, who died Saturday at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz. She was 46.
She was born in Tucson, Ariz., and had lived in Santa Cruz for 15 years.
She previously lived in Hollister.
She is survived by children, Angel Hernandez of Morgan Hill, Senta Hernandez of Seaside and Elizabeth Hernandez of Hollister; brothers Michael Castro of Hollister, Victor Castro of Morgan Hill and Edward Castro of Marina; sisters Sylvia Castro of San Jose, Rosemary Castro of Hollister, Elizabeth Castro of Watsonville and Helen Castro of Hollister; and six grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Sunday at Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home, 363 Seventh St., Hollister. Burial is private.

Louise Minniear
Services will be Saturday and Sunday for Louise Kirby Minniear, who died Saturday at her home in Aptos. She was 71.
Mrs. Minniear was born in Santa Cruz and had lived in Aptos for 33 years. She was a retired Pajaro Valley Unified School District teacher.
She is survived by sons Steven Minniear of Dublin and Timothy Minniear of Oak View; a niece; four grandchildren; and her close friend Jim Young.
Her husband, David Minniear, died in 1960.
A prayer service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Resurrection Church, Aptos, with a reception immediately after.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Watsonville Airport to commemorate her love of flying.
Contributions are preferred to donor’s favorite charity or the Pajaro Valley Aviation Academy at 140 Mesa Verde Drive, Watsonville, CA 95076 or the Monterey Bay 99’s, P.O. Box 924, Freedom, CA 95019.

Judith Esther Klint
Private services will be later for Judith Esther Klint, who died Monday at Covenant Village Care Center in Turlock. She was 89.
A native of Minneapolis, Mrs. Klint moved to Inglewood in 1926. She lived there until she married in 1936 when she moved to San Francisco. In 1940, she moved to San Mateo. Six years later, she moved to Sacramento. In 1956 she moved to Mission Springs, where she lived until 1987 when she moved into Covenant Village in Turlock.
She and her husband, Wendell E. Klint, owned Klint’s Restaurant in Santa Cruz. At Mission Springs Convenant Conference grounds, she and her husband also worked in food service management. She was active in Covenant Women and the Covenant Church.
She is survived by sons David Klint of Cupertino, Dennis Klint of Fortuna; daughter Kathryn Owens of Davis; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Private services will be later .

Roberta N. T. Lewis
Services will be Saturday for Roberta Nina Taylor Lewis, who died Nov. 21 in Bakersfield. She was 98.
She was born and raised in Long Beach, and lived in Mount Hermon.
She was the wife of a medical missionary who was posted in China with his family when the Japanese invaded that country at the beginning of World War II. She was evacuated with her four children, but her husband stayed behind and was imprisoned in a Japanese concentration camp. She spent the remainder of the war as a single mother in the United States.
The family was reunited in 1943 in the United States, but returned to China after the war. They fled again as the Communists took over, but returned to experience the stresses of being unwelcome aliens and the difficulties of getting permission to leave.
In addition to China, the family lived in San Francisco, San Anselmo, Spokane, Wash., Thailand and Malaysia.
She was the daughter of a Presbyterian minister, and was active in the church her entire life. She was a member of Felton Presbyterian Church for more than 25 years. She participated in Bible studies, and mentored young women throughout her life.
She earned a bachelor’s degree at Occidental College in Pasadena, and studied music at the San Francisco Theological College Seminary.
She taught elementary school, and was a choir director, voice teacher, language school supervisor and co-editor of a hymnal translated into Thai.
She enjoyed horseback riding, tennis, playing cello and chamber music, cooking, entertaining, reading and serving as an informal tour guide in Thailand and the San Francisco Bay Area. She also hosted a daily open house, where she served tea from Malaysia in china cups.
She is survived by daughters Cecile Bagwell and Wendy Thompson, both of Bakersfield; sons Harry Lewis of Sacramento and Charles Lewis of Padang, Indonesia; sister Margaret Taylor Ross of Santa Cruz; 14 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; five nieces; and one nephew.
Her husband of 61 years, Dr. Ralph C. Lewis, died in 1991. Brothers Lowell L. Taylor and Robert B. Taylor and sister Ruth Taylor also died before her.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Felton Presbyterian Church. Friends may call 2-7 p.m. Friday and 9-10 a.m. Saturday at Santa Cruz Memorial Park and Funeral Home.
Contributions are preferred to Felton Presbyterian Church.

Chester E. Quick
Services will be later for Chester Elwood Quick, who died at home Saturday in Paradise Park. He was 89.
Mr. Quick was a native of Missouri and a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Medical Corps in France. He worked as a building contractor, building many houses in the Salinas area, where he lived for many years.
He was a 50-year member of the Delaware Masonic Lodge, Kansas City, Kan. He also was a member of the Confidence Masonic Lodge No. 110 Soquel. He also served as worthy patron for the Castroville Eastern Star lodge three times.
Mr. Quick lived for more than 10 years in Paradise Park, where he enjoyed working in his flower and vegetable gardens.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Quick of Santa Cruz; son Larry Quick of Salinas; daughter Janice Walker of Ontario, daughters Carol Blum of Paradise Park and Sharon Renner of Salinas; sister Alice Dalton of Tonganoxie, Kan.; nine grandchildren; and eight great- grandchildren.
Services will be later at Soquel Masonic Lodge, Confidence No. 110.
Santa Cruz Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

TINO SANTIAGO GUTIERREZ
Services will be held for Tino Santiago Gutierrez who passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 30, 2003 at his home in Alameda, CA. He was 31 years of age.
Tino is survived by his loving fiancée Jennifer Mone, mother Katy Hurlbut, father Mario Gutierrez, brother Christopher Gutierrez, sister Priscilla Gutierrez, grandmothers, Jessie Gutierrez, Marge Rovison, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Tino moved to Santa Cruz at the age of 12 with his mother and older brother. He attended San Lorenzo Valley High and graduated promptly. Tino worked at Advanced Micro Device for 7 years, before becoming ready for entry into the Expression Center for New Media in San Francisco. There he was pursuing his dream, which started with a bachelor degree in Sound Arts. Along the way, Tino’s kindness and compassion touched the lives of all those around him, in a way that was truly inspiring. Nothing touched Tino’s life more deeply than the love of his fiancée, his family, friends, and music. Tino had said, "The music, the sounds, they just happen. It’s hard to explain, it’s emotional, a journey, sharing. There’s nothing like it in the world." To hear the music that Tino created was knowing that he was able to share the beauty of his soul for everyone to experience. And that was an experience, freely given to all those that knew him and loved him. Tino enjoyed; gourmet cooking, playing with his cats, collecting albums, performing on stage as a disc jockey, and most of all the love he had shared with his family and friends.
A visitation will be held Thursday, December 4, 2003 from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Oakwood Memorial Crystal Chapel. A graveside service will be held Friday, December 5, 2003 at 1:30 p.m. at Oakwood Memorial Park, both located at 3301 Paul Sweet Rd., Santa Cruz, CA 95065. Memorial contributions may be made in Tino’s name to your local youth music program. All arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Oakwood Memorial Chapel.

Tino S. Gutierrez
Services will be Friday for Tino Santiago Gutierrez, who died in his sleep Sunday at his Alameda home. He was 31.
Mr. Gutierrez was born in Santa Clara, and moved to Santa Cruz when he was 12. He graduated from San Lorenzo Valley High School in 1991.
