Arthur Berry Carr
No services will be held for Arthur Berry Carr, who died Saturday in Santa Cruz. He was 86.
Mr. Carr was a native of Long Beach. He moved to Santa Cruz in 1927.
He graduated from Santa Cruz High School in 1937.
Mr. Carr enjoyed playing the organ and had served as an organist for several area churches.
He worked for UC Santa Cruz for 12years. Previously, he worked for the county.
No services will be held.
Burial will be at Oakwood Memorial Park in Santa Cruz.Arrangements are by Oakwood Memorial Chapel in Santa Cruz.

Charles ‘Chuck’ Fulks
Services will be Saturday for Charles "Chuck" Douglas Fulks, who died Friday at a Chico hospital. He was 75.
A native of Latham, Mo., Fulks lived in the Berkeley-Albany area before he and his wife, Anita, moved to Watsonville in 1985. The couple had moved to Chico in recent years to be close to family.
Mr. Fulks served for eight years in the U.S. Marine Corp.
He received a bachelor’s in accounting from UC Berkeley.
He worked for the Albany Police Department after moving to California. Later, he worked for 18 years for Stokley-Van Camp food company and for Watsonville Canning. He retired from Shaw Frozen Foods.
Mr. Fulks was a member of the Confidence Masonic Lodge 110 in Soquel, the Scottish Rite, Shriners, Eastern Star, Past Patron, Order of the Amaranth, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
He enjoyed fishing and golfing.
He and his wife also were very involved in Civil War reenactments. Many reenactment buffs in Northern California turned to the Fulks for materials. The couple were known as sutlers, an old term for troop provisioners.
While old-time sutlers sold tobacco, whiskey and food to troops, modern sutlers sell historically authentic gear of all kinds, including guns and clothing, Fulks explained in a June 1998 Sentinel article.
Fulks himself was a Civil War reenactor. He was a member of the Norfolk Light Artillery, a company of about 20 men.
He is survived by his wife Anita Fulks of Chico; a daughter, Becky McCarthy of Chico; a son, Andrew Fulks of Indiana; a sister, Cecilia Wilson of Modesto; three brothers, David Fulks of Modesto, Joseph Fulks of Pleasanton and Donald Fulks of Walnut Creek; and five grandchildren.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church in Chico.
Burial will be at Chico Cemetery.
Contributions are preferred to Shriners Hospitals for Children in care of Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home, 680 Camellia Way, Chico, CA 95926.

Gloria Shults
Services are private for Gloria Shults, who died Friday after a battle with cancer. She was 71.
A native of Alameda, Mrs. Shults was famous for her deviled eggs at Zayante Market in Felton where she worked for nine years. She loved spending time with her grandkids, collecting pigs and birdhouses and camping in her RV with good friends. She also loved working in her garden with flowers, her favorites being yellow roses.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Gary of Felton; son Mike of Ben Lomond; daughter Gayle Zulim of Virginia City, Nev.; and grandchildren Mikey and Christy Shults of Felton, Jeff Shults of Ben Lomond, and Amber, Matt and Jamie Zulim of Virginia City.
She was preceded in death by a son Danny and a brother.
Services are being held in Felton.
Contributions to the American Cancer Society are preferred.
Santa Cruz Memorial Park & Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Donald ‘Don’ Ray Green
Services will be Aug. 23 for Donald "Don" Ray Green, who died July 22 at an Auburn hospital. He was 64.
A native of Murphysboro, Ill., Mr. Green had lived in Santa Cruz County for 15 years, including 12 years in Scotts Valley and three years in Santa Cruz. He moved with his family to Auburn in 1977.
He enjoyed boating and was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary in Santa Cruz. He also was a member of the Early Day Gas Engines and Tractor Association, Branch 13.
For 15 years, Mr. Green worked for the former Prolo Chevrolet located at Pacific and Sycamore streets in Santa Cruz. The dealership was purchased by Harry Davidson in April 1985 and renamed Ocean Chevrolet.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Joyce Green of Auburn; sons Kevin Green of Applegate and Brian and Shawn Green, both of Auburn; brothers, Bill Green of Umatilla, Fla., Bob Green of Washington, Ill., David Green of Chatham, Ill., and John Green of Kingsport, Tenn.; and two grandchildren.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Aug. 23 at the 9885 Michelle Drive, Auburn.

James ‘Jimmy’ Yancy
Services will be Saturday for James "Jimmy" Yancy, who died from heart disease Monday in Santa Cruz. He was 57.
A native of Hazard, Ky., he had lived in Santa Cruz for many years.
He was a high school track and basketball star and worked as a carpet installer in Santa Cruz for 30 years. He was a longtime member of AA.
Mr. Yancy enjoyed karaoke singing and playing his guitar. His family and friends enjoyed hearing his many stories of his travels.
He is survived by daughters, Joanie of Indiana, Kristina of Arizona and Jodi of Florida; brothers Terry Yancy of Watsonville and Buddy Yancy of Vermont; sisters Jeanette Reichard of Dayton, Ohio, Peggy Knifley and Patricia Pratt, both of Lexington, Betty Ruth Ellington of Watsonville, and Gay Nell of Cookville, Tenn.
He was preceded in death by brothers Gene, Paul and Carl Yancy.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Garfield Christian Church, 111 Errett Circle, Santa Cruz.
Arrangements are by Santa Cruz Memorial Park Chapel.

Marjorie Carmalita Hirst
No services will be held for Marjorie Carmalita Hirst who died Thursday from complications of a stroke. She was 87.
Mrs. Hirst was a native of St. Paul, Kan., and spent majority of her life in California where she lived mostly between Watsonville and Santa Cruz.
She is survived by son Don Sproule of Lexington, Ky.; son Marc Sproule of Santa Cruz; and brother Carl Coomes of El Centro.
Her husband, John E. Hirst, died before her.

Leith Louisa (Allen) Corno
Services will be Friday for Leith Louisa (Allen) Corno who died Tuesday in Santa Cruz. She was 91.
Mrs. Corno was born in Oswego, Ore., and lived in Santa Cruz since 1943.
She enjoyed reading and walking on the beach.
She is survived by daughter Kathleen Sullivan of Phoenix, Ore.; daughter Lorraine Valdez of Ben Lomond; and six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, all of Santa Cruz.
Friends may call 1 to 8 p.m. today at the Santa Cruz Memorial Park Mission Chapel, 1927 Ocean St., Santa Cruz.
Services will 1 p.m. Friday at the Santa Cruz Memorial Park Mission Chapel.
Flowers are welcome. Contributions may be given to donor’s favorite charity.
Arrangements are by the Santa Cruz Memorial Park and Funeral Home.

Amanda Frances Harrington
No services will be held for Amanda Frances Harrington, who died July 21 at her Garfield Park Village home in Santa Cruz. She was 82.
Mrs. Harrington was born in French Camp and lived in the Bay Area all her life.
After her first husband, Bill Sutherland, died in the late ‘80s she moved to Santa Cruz.
She met her second husband, Ron Harrington, on Thanksgiving Day after she moved into Garfield Park Village in 1996. The two married in April 1997.
Mrs. Harrington enjoyed her golden years with her husband, Ron, traveling throughout the Western United States and riding their unique side-by-side tricycle around the Westside of Santa Cruz.
She is survived by her four children, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Santa Cruz Memorial Park Chapel.
