Mary Carol Wallett
At her request, no services will be held for Mary Carol Wallett, who died Thursday at Pacific Coast Manor after suffering from lung cancer. She was 67.
Mrs. Wallett was born in Minneapolis and raised in Minnesota and Indiana. She lived in Santa Cruz County for 18 years.
The daughter of Ralph S. and Mary E. Cramblet, she graduated from Isaac C. Elston High School in 1952 and earned a nursing degree in 1955 from Holy Cross Central School of Nursing in South Bend, Ind.
She is survived by sons William Wallett of Mexico, Danny and David Wallett, both of Palm Desert and Steven Wallett of Krakow, Poland; a sister, Joanne M. Szabo of South Bend, Ind.; a brother, Thomas R. Cramblet of Aptos; and three granddaughters.
After cremation her ashes will be returned to Indiana.

Ollie Verne Tyra
Services will be Thursday for Ollie Verne Tyra, who died at her Santa Cruz home Friday. She was 90.
Mrs. Tyra was born in Lapwai, Idaho, to William W. and Nelly Rich Olds, and moved to Hughson with her family in 1919.
She spent part of her time in Santa Cruz County since her early teens, attending Branciforte School and spending summers on her father’s chicken ranch in the lower DeLaveaga area.
Mrs. Tyra married Andrew Tyra Sr. in Merced in 1928, and the couple moved to Santa Cruz in 1947. Mr. Tyra built the Hammond Avenue where they spent the rest of their lives.
Mrs. Tyra was a member of Grace Methodist Church in her younger years and was active in many local church organizations throughout her life. She most recently attended Christian Life Center in Santa Cruz, where she headed the church’s prayer hotline.
Mrs. Tyra was a familiar figure at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and was one of the first to ride the park’s Giant Dipper roller coaster. She sat beside Charles Canfield in the front car for a recent anniversary of the ride and celebrated her 90th birthday by riding a white pony on the carousel.
She is survived by a son, Andrew Tyra, Jr. of Santa Cruz; a daughter, Priscilla Tyra of Santa Cruz; sisters Velma Maybee and Virigina Rehder, both of Modesto; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and nine great, great grandchildren.
Her husband, Andrew Tyra Sr., died in 1986.
Friends may call from 12-6 p.m. Wednesday at Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St., Santa Cruz.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Oakwood Memorial Park Chapel, 3301 Paul Sweet Road, Santa Cruz.
Contributions are preferred to the Don Maybee Memorial Scholarship Fund at Monte Vista Christian School, 2 School Way, Watsonville, CA 95076 or Hospice Caring Project, PO Box 670, Aptos, CA 95001.

Julian Kowal
Services will be private for Julian Kowal, who died Saturday at his Santa Cruz home. He was 76.
Mr. Kowal was born in Spencer, Mass., and lived in Santa Cruz for 52 years. He worked as a maintenance supervisor at the downtown Santa Cruz post office for 29 years.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lucille Kowal of Santa Cruz; a son, James Kowal of Santa Cruz; daughters Susan Smedley of Santa Cruz and Cynthia Patnode of Corona; brothers Eugene Kowal of Leicester, Mass., and Roger and Kirol Kowal, both of Spencer, Mass.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Contributions are preferred to Hospice Caring Project, PO Box 670, Aptos, CA 95001.

Charlotte Fillmore Coldwell
Services will be Sunday for Charlotte Fillmore Coldwell, who died Wednesday in Aptos. She was 83.
Mrs. Coldwell was born in San Jose and raised in San Jose and San Francisco. She lived in Santa Cruz County for 50 years.
Mrs. Coldwell graduated from Lowell High School in San Francisco and worked many years as a payroll clerk for the San Lorenzo Valley School District, retiring in 1979.
She was a voracious reader and loved to pray, travel and spend time with her grandchildren. Mrs. Coldwell was a long-time member of Twin Lakes Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Joseph R. Coldwell of Aptos; a daughter, JoEllen Schaffer of Thousand Oaks; sons Russ Coldwell of Makakilo, Hawaii, and Donald Coldwell of Santa Cruz; a brother, Fred Fillmore of Woodland; five grandchildren; two nieces; four nephews; and one aunt.
Services will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Twin Lakes Baptist Church.
Contributions are preferred to Care Ministries at Twin Lakes, 2701 Cabrillo College Drive, Aptos, CA 95003.
Arrangements are by the Neptune Society.

Alma G. Anderson
There will be no services for Alma G. Anderson, who died in her Santa Cruz home Sunday. She was 88.
Born in Addy, Wash., Mrs. Anderson was the only of six children to be born in the United States. Her family was from Norway. She lived in Santa Ana before moving to Santa Cruz in 1959. She and her husband, a naval officer, lived all over the world. She was involved in the Santa Cruz branch of Goodwill Industries, leading Goodwill’s local board of directors and its volunteer services. She founded the Santa Cruz store’s collectors corner. She enjoyed playing bridge, sewing and flower arranging.
She is survived by daughter Kay Flora of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by husband William Harvey Anderson in 1992.
Contributions are preferred to Goodwill Industries, 350 Encinal St., Santa Cruz, 95060.
Arrangements are by Benito and Azzaro’s Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St., Santa Cruz.

Belinda Ventura
Services will be Monday for Belinda Ventura, who died Sunday at her home in Freedom. She was 50.
Born in Calexico, Mrs. Ventura lived in Freedom most of her life. She attended Watsonville High School, graduating in 1970, and worked at Watsonville Community Hospital. For many years, she also worked for the family video store, Ventura Video. She was the queen of the 1969 Fiestas Patrias celebration and was a member for most of her life of Holy Eucharist Catholic Community.
She is survived by parents Adalberto and Connie Ventura of Watsonville; daughter Crystal Fortes of Watsonville; brother Art Ventura of Watsonville and Danny Ventura of Watsonville; sister Dolores Valdivia of Salinas; and one grandchild.
Friends may call today from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Davis Memorial Chapel, 609 Main St., Watsonville. A vigil service will be held 7 p.m. Sunday at the chapel. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Eucharist Catholic Community, 527 Corralitos Road, Corralitos, with Burial at Pajaro Valley Memorial Park on Hecker Pass Road in Watsonville.
Arrangements are by Davis Memorial Chapel.

Karen E. Sandholdt
Services will be Tuesday for Karen E. Sandholdt, who died Tuesday in her Watsonville home. She was 57.
A native of Watsonville, Miss Sandholdt attended Moreland Notre Dame Grammar School and Mora Central High School before attending the College of Notre Dame Belmont, graduating in 1966. Miss Sandholdt taught Spanish at Watsonville High School in the late 1960s, as well as teaching at Moss Landing and Castroville elementary schools. She was active at Holy Eucharist Catholic Community, particularly in the music ministry. She was also an avid reader and skilled at needlepoint.
She is survived by brother Bill Sandholdt of Watsonville.
She is proceeded in death by father Wilbur Sandholdt in 1965 and mother Mary E. "Mazie" Sandholdt in 1985.
Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. Monday at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel, 222 E. Lake Ave., Watsonville and a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday at the chapel. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Eucharist Catholic Community, 527 Corralitos Road, Corralitos, followed by Burial at Valley Cemetery. Arrangements are by Mehl’s Colonial Chapel.

Yolanda Marie King
Services will be Monday for Yolanda Marie King, who died Thursday in her Santa Cruz home. She was 62.
A native of San Jose, Mrs. King lived in Santa Cruz since 1973. Her family described her as a typical Italian mother, who loved to cook for the family. She loved to drive her car and to care for the dog Bella Mia.
She is survived by daughter Victoria Delia of Santa Cruz and son Gordon King of Santa Cruz.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Santa Cruz Memorial Park Chapel, 1927 Ocean St., Santa Cruz.

Frank R. Hayford
Services will be Monday for Frank Hayford, who died Wednesday in Santa Cruz. He was 86.
Born in Capitola, Mr. Hayford lived here all his life. He left the area briefly in the 1940s to serve the Navy during World War II. He was stationed in the South Pacific through most of his three years in the service and returned in 1947 to marry Velma Stanley. He was an original volunteer of the Capitola Fire Department and a charter member of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars group.
He is survived by brothers Lawrence Hayford of Santa Cruz, Lyle Hayford of Capitola, Julian Hayford of Soquel, Malcolm Hayford of Capitola and Hugh Hayford of Santa Cruz.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Velma, and his sister, Lorraine Williamson.
Friends may call Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St., Santa Cruz. Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday at Oakwood Memorial Park on Paul Sweet Road, Santa Cruz.
Contributions are preferred to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Local 7263, 2259 7th Ave., Santa Cruz, CA 95062.
Arrangements are by Pacific Gardens Chapel.
