Death, Burial, Cemetery & Obituaries

Long-time employee of Dofasco Inc., died suddenly at her home in Bobcaygeon on September 27, 2005, after a valiant struggle against a devastating eye disease. Beloved wife of the late Henry C. (Harry) Calder, sister of Joan Land (deceased) and her loving brothers, Donald Land of Troy, MI and Brian Land (Edith) of Guelph. Dearly loved by her nephews and nieces and their children: Brian Land (Ellen) of Vienna, VA, and their sons Michael and Mark; Susan Land Bucek (Glenn) and their son Mathew of Arlington, VA; and Dr. Diane Land of Columbus, OH; Mary Land Crowther (Hugh) and their son Geoffrey of Minneapolis, MN; and John Land (Barbara) of Kitchener, ON. A descendant of United Empire Loyalists Robert and Abel Land, Joyce was born in Niagara Falls, ON on December 22, 1920, the daughter of the late Reginald and Beatrice (Boyle) Land. She attended school in Niagara Falls and Grimsby and Parks Business College in Hamilton before joining Dofasco, later becoming Executive Secretary to the Vice-President, Purchasing. In 1970, Joyce married Harry, also a Dofasco employee, and, in 1971, they retired and moved to Bobcaygeon. The family will receive friends at MONK FUNERAL HOME, 6 Helen Street, Bobcaygeon (866-393-0063) on Sunday, October 2, 2005 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service in Christ Church Anglican, Bobcaygeon, 11 a.m., Monday October 3. Cremation. Interment of ashes at a later date. Donations to Christ Church Anglican or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.

Phyllis Cunningham passed away peacefully at Pinecrest Nursing Home, Bobcaygeon on Tuesday, November 22, 2005 in her 99th year. Wife of the late Albert Cunningham. Loving sister of Fern Hadley of Toronto and aunt of Gerald Tew of Bobcaygeon. Predeceased by five sisters and two brothers. Family and friends will be received at Christ Church Anglican, Sherwood Street, Bobcaygeon, on Friday, November 25, 2005 from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. Interment Verulam Cemetery. Damon Cleckner passed away at Ross Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, November 30, 2005 in his 44th year. Husband of Vera Schewtschenko. Father of Jazzmin and Lakeland, both at home. Brother of Paul (Laura) Cleckner of Durham, Jane (Ian) Brown of Calgary and Craig (Cathy) Cleckner of Toronto. Loved by several nieces and nephews. Loving sister of Daisy Kennedy of Peterborough and the late Rosamond Cullen, Betty Lewis, Ernest Castle and Bruce Castle. Jean will be missed by her many nieces and nephews.
