Ronald F. Pittaway - 07/22/2003
(R.P.) World War II Veteran Peacefully, on July 22, 2003 at age 86, long-time resident of Aylmer, QC. Beloved husband and best friend of Betty (nee Fogarty). Dear father of Ron Pittaway (Jean), Richard Pittaway (Donna), Mary Larose (Peter), Michael Yetts (Sharon) and Paula Hines (Dal). Dearly loved, R.P. will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Natasha, Barbara (Troy), Amber, Avery, Jeffrey, Virginia, Tara, Brad, Dal and Shannon, and by his great-granddaughter, Alexus. Predeceased by his first wife, Barbara Kehoe. Ron was a very proud veteran of the Second World War, former Manager of Photographic Stores Ltd., and an accomplished amateur athlete, having played in the 1930s for the University of Ottawa in the Ottawa Junior City Hockey League. Ron was a long-time season ticket holder of the Ottawa Rough Riders and an original supporter of the Ottawa Senators. One of his last wishes was that he be remembered at Grey Cup time and during the Stanley Cup playoffs. Ron also asked to be remembered with smiles and laughter, for that is how he will remember his family and many friends. A private ceremony for the family and closest friends will be held at the Central Chapel of Hulse Playfair & McGarry. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Perley Hospital or the Salvation Army, both causes dear to Ron's heart, would be appreciated.

Won Dong Quan - 07/22/2003
Peacefully at the Elisabeth Bruyere Health Centre on Monday, July 21, 2003, aged 67 years. Beloved husband of Shui (Hum) and dear father of Edward and Edgar. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street on Wednesday, July 23, 2003 from 2 to 9pm. Service in the Chapel on Thursday at 2pm. Interment Beechwood Cemetery.

Jean-Guy Raymond - 07/23/2003
RAYMOND, Jean-Guy passed away peacefully at the Hospice at May Court on Monday, July 21st, 2003 at the age of 54. Jean-Guy was born on October 7th, 1948 in Moonbeam, Ontario. Loving husband of Helene. Adoring father of Stephan and Joelle. Devoted son of Juliette and the late Sylvio Raymond. Dear brother of Jeanine Genier (Laurent), Pierre (Lise), Lise Fournier (Richard), Daniel (Bev). Special godfather of Melanie, Pascal and Alexandre. Jean-Guy also leaves behind his parents-in-law, his stepfather, brothers and sisters-in-law, many nieces and nephews with their children and countless friends. Friends may attend a Memorial Service on Thursday, July 24th, 2003, at 11 a.m. at St-Sebastien Roman Catholic Church, 1000 Frances Street, Ottawa, Ontario. Reception to follow. Donations can be made to the Hospice at May Court or the Ottawa Regional Cancer Centre Foundation. Special thanks to the "Angel Doctor" Dr. Louise Coulombe and the wonderful staff and volunteers from the Hospice at May Court.

Cecile Roy-Menear (née Lemieux) - 07/22/2003
Peacefully in hospital on Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at the age of 84. Dearly beloved wife of the late Hormidas Roy and the late John Menear. Loving mother of Georgette, Gilberte, Jeanne-D'Arc, Roger, Gilles, Lorraine, Georges, Denis and Guy. Predeceased by a daughter Gertrude. Also loved by her 23 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Dear sister of Solange. Friends may visit at the St. Laurent Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 1200 Ogilvie Road at Aviation Parkway on Thursday, July 24, 2003, from 7 to 9 p.m. and July 25 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. followed by a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at St-Viateur Roman Catholic Church, Limoges, at 2 p.m. Interment in the Parish Cemetery.

Ida Emma Sims (nee Achtell) - 07/22/2003
Retired Department of National Defence Peacefully at the Elisabeth Bruyere Health Centre, with family by her side, on Monday, July 21, 2003 in her 88th year. Wife of the late Leonard Sims. Loving mother of Dale (Grace), Richard (Vicki), Donna Krupcale, Graydon (Helen) and Gregory. Devoted grandmother of Tim, Julie, Marie, Lesley, Shawn, Kyle, Jason, Samantha and Steven and great-grandmother of Magdeline, Hayden, Linden and the late Brody. Sister of Lorne Achtell (Dell). Predeceased by brothers Ruben and Gustov and sisters Martha Reuckwald, Clara Rae, Freda Forbes, Rena St. Louis and Venita Achtell. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street, Ottawa on Wednesday, July 23 from 7 to 9pm. Funeral Service in the chapel on Thursday, July 24 at 11am. Reception to follow. Interment Capital Memorial Gardens. As Ida shared her life with her beloved pets, memorial donations to the Ottawa Humane Society would be appreciated.

Evelyn Grace (nee MacCuaig) Stewart - 07/26/2003
Peacefully, at home, on July 24, 2003, age 69 years. Beloved wife of Murdo Stewart. Loving mother of Darlene. Dear sister of the late Millan (Margaret), Lloyd of Vankleek Hill, Ont. and Ken (Jean) of Maxville, Ont. She will be fondly remembered by her niece and nephews: Heather, Darren, and Wayne. Evelyn will be sadly missed by family and friends. We were blessed to have her in our lives. Special thanks to Louise Guay, Dr. Robert Taylor and the Palliative Care Outreach Program for their special care. Alan Swedlove - 07/26/2003
Alan's Vending Service After a short illness, Alan passed away with his devoted wife Kathy at his side. He will be mourned by his loving wife and devoted parents Casey & Bess Swedlove, dear twin sister Carol-Sue Shapiro (Jack), niece and nephew Tracy (Steven Samel), and Michael Shapiro (Nikki) and great-niece Neilah. His laughter and jokes will be missed by all who had the good fortune to have known him. Funeral Service was held at the Jewish Memorial Chapel, 1771 Cuba Avenue on July 25, 2003. Shiva at 29 Crescent Heights with visitation in the afternoons only. We greatly appreciate the excellent care given at the Queensway Carleton Hospital by all the doctors and nursing staff. Donations may be made to the Casey & Bess Swedlove Endowment Fund, 798-9818 ext. 247 or the Queensway Carleton Hospital.

Brian Henry Tarrant - 07/22/2003
Peacefully at Elisabeth Bruyere Health Centre on Tuesday, July 22nd, 2003 at the age of 68. Beloved husband of Susan. Loving father of Paul (Elena). Cherished grandfather of Daniel. Brian will be sadly missed by brother-in-law David Conway, sister-in-law Joan Hansen (David) of Toronto, as well as nieces Susan and Sarah. A special thanks to the doctors and nursing staff at Elisabeth Bruyere Palliative Care for their care and compassion. Dorothy Lee Thornton Vernier - 07/26/2003
passed away on Wednesday, July 23, 2003 aged 74 years. Beloved wife of the late Charles Thornton and the late Kenneth Vernier. Loving mother to Paul, Nancy (Glen), James (Clarice), Janet and John. Devoted Gram to Andrew, Nicholas, Tessa, Ariel, Charles, Lianne, Vanessa, Kerry, Christa and Brian. Sadly missed by her brother Carl and predeceased by her two brothers Leslie and Bob. Dorothy's children will always be grateful for her courage, unfailing love and encouragement. Loving grandmother of Bruce Greenberg (Nadine), Pamela Ravek (Oded), Karen Zunder (Ian), Melissa Greenberg-Springer (Michael), Kevin Viner (Michele), Marla-Beth Rosen (Gregg), Nancy Viner and Jillian Aberman (Jordan). Predeceased by sisters Rachel Jewett (David) and Edith Cherun (Alex). Survived by sisters Anne Kaplan (Harry) of Nashua, NH, Betty Feller (Joseph), blessed with many great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at the Jewish Memorial Chapel, 1771 Cuba Avenue on Friday, July 25, 2003 at 9 a.m. Interment Jewish Community Cemetery, Bank Street. Shiva visitation, 2-4 and 6:45-9 at the home of Gladys and John Greenberg. Evening prayer services at the house of Shiva at 6:50 p.m. Special thanks to Dr. A. Peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Wednesday, July 23, 2003, in her 90th year. Predeceased by beloved husband Paul, brothers Frank, Thomas, and Joseph Kitt and sister May Craffey, all of County Galway, Ireland. Will be sadly missed by devoted sister Nellie Rogers. Cherished mother of Rita (Hal Parker), Pauline (Michael Fitzpatrick) and Brendan. Loving grandmother of Mark, Jeffrey, Anne and Stephen Fitzpatrick, and Kevin, Paul and David Parker. Will be fondly remembered by sister-in-law Dorothy Kitt and many relatives and friends in Ireland and Canada. Son of the late Charlotte (Culvenwill) and James T. Ward from England. Dear brother-in-law of Josephine Ward (the late Ernest) of Ottawa and Isabella Foy of Sudbury. Dear uncle of Sanda Plewes (Chris) and their children Kim and Jeff; Carol Ward (Frank Greene) and their son Shane; and Barbara. Jim's life was the Army for 35 years serving in Korea and Post-War in Germany, England and Canada. He had a passion for golfing, curling, travelling and was involved with Christ Church Cathedral. Uncle of Allison and Timothy. Devoted son-in-law of Mary Douglas (nee Earley). Don graduated from the R.C.M.P. Depot, Regina and served 34 years of good service. He was posted in Nova Scotia for 22 years and 12 years in Ottawa. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Don's compassion and kindness has touched many lives throughout both his service and friendship and will be missed by all who knew him. Friends may attend a Service of Remembrance at St. James United Church, 5540 Main Street, Osgoode, On Saturday, July 26, 2003 at 11:00am.
