BA, BPHE, Queens University
passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2006 at Laurier Manor. Predeceased by parents William Smith and Rena Smith (Taylor) of North Bay. Loving husband of Doreen Smith (Hoad) for 53 years. Proud father of Cheryl Anne Smith (John Neufeld) and Derek Smith (Joanne Crone). Dear grandfather of Melissa and Lalia Neufeld and Krista and Courtney Smith. Great-grandfather of Amara and Katsia Marsan. No visitation by request. Funeral Service will be held at the St. Laurent Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 1200 Ogilvie Road (at Aviation Parkway) on Saturday, April 22, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. Interment at Malloch Road Cemetery in Arnprior. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. He will be sadly missed.

Albert H. Smith - 04/10/2006
passed away peacefully on April 10, 2006 at the Ottawa Civic Hospital in his 91st year. Beloved husband of Kathleen (Kaye) for 66 years. Much loved father of Terry (the late Sharon) and Kathryn Fright (Eric). Dearly loved "Pop" of Jordan, Daniel and Stephanie. Loving brother of Wesley and predeceased by Clarence, Gladys, Ernest, Bertha, Margaret and Victor. Albert will be missed by many friends. Al served in World War II as a Radar Operator with the RCAF; 43 years of faithful service with The Mutual Life of Canada. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street, on Wednesday, April 12 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Thursday, April 13 from 12 noon until Service time in the Chapel at 1 p.m. followed by a reception at the McGarry Family Reception Centre. Donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated.

Roxy Lavinia Swan - 04/21/2006
It is with great sadness that Roxy’s husband and children announce her passing in her 81st year after a very courageous battle with cancer. Beloved wife for nearly 60 years of Norman W. Swan. She has left behind her cherished children, Tom (Betty), Louise (Ron), Wayne (Dominique), Nancy (Don) and Grandsons Andrew, Blair, Justin, David and Kyle. Also, as part of her extended family Christine & Eric, Jenna & Zach, Gabrielle & Sophie. She was a longtime choir member of St. Paul’s Eastern United Church. She also was a faithful attendee of Remembrance Day Ceremonies and Battle of the Atlantic (1st Sunday in May) over the years. She was a Past Matron of Lorraine Chapter No44, OES. Her mastery in her kitchen for flavourful food was envied by many. Her pies at Church bazaars were spoken for before she even entered the Church. Her vibrant personality, her beautiful smile, her love of bridge and her ability to engage in meaningful conversation on every level will be sorely missed. Her eagerness to always learn has been cut short by a dreadful disease. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street on Sunday and Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Service will be held at St. Paul’s Eastern United Church, Cumberland & Daly on Tuesday April 25, 2006 at 1 pm. Interment of ashes will take place at the National Military Cemetery at Beechwood Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation.

Peacefully in hospital in Hull on Monday, April 24 at the age of 75. Dear daughter of the late Sylvio Lacombe and the late Béatrice Marquis. Dearly beloved wife of the late Maurice. Loving mother of Francine (Wayne), Christiane (Guy) and Chantal (Mike). Fondly remembered by her grandchildren Wayne (Julie), Jody, Kim (Moe), Rebecca, Karen, France, Tiguy, Dallas and her great-grandchildren Corey, Dylan, Alyssa, Evan, Anik and Jacob. Dear sister of Julia Lacombe, Angela Lacombe (George) and Ronald Lacombe (Patsy). Friends may visit at the St. Laurent Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 1200 Ogilvie Road at Aviation Parkway on Thursday, April 27, 2006 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. The funeral service will be held in the Chapel on Friday, April 28 at 11am. Interment at Notre-Dame Cemetery.

Loving mother of Algimontas, Marija ( the late Eddy ) and Nijole ( Dennis ). Step-mother of Pauline and Paul. Grandmother of Alex, Martin ( Katarina ), Melanie ( Stefan ), Cassandra and Sabrina. Great grandmother of Diego and Alyssa. Dear sister of Marijona Fitzpatrick of Denver, CO. and Aunt to Linda and Jim. She will be fondly remembered by her extended family and many friends. Suddenly in his 50th year, while canoeing in the Nahanni National Park, on Thursday, June 22, 2006. Loving husband and best friend of Ruby (nee Christin) and devoted father to Heather and Corinne. Dearest brother to Madeleine (Marcel) and Charles (Cathe). Predeceased by his parents Adrien John and Gilberte (nee Carrieres) Boucher. Mike was treasured by many friends and relatives. Mike will forever be remembered for the love he had for his family; the outdoors and his best buddy Pete. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 5, 2006 at 6:00 p.m. at the Hellenic Center at 1315 Prince of Wales Drive. Protection and preservation of Canada's natural wildlife was very important to Mike and as such, donations to the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society's Nahanni National Park Expansion Project would be appreciated. Loving mother of Peter (Daina) and grandmother of Talis, Laris (Allison), Kriss, Eriks and greatgrandmother of Aleksandra. Fondly remembered by nieces and nephews Ojars, Uldis and Solvita in her homeland of Latvia and Rolfs and Mats in Sweden, by her extended family Maija, Guntis, Kaiva, Aldis and Ilvars of Toronto and by her friends in the Latvian community. A Memorial service will be held on August 5th at 10:00 at Peace Latvian Lutheran Church 83 Main St. Ottawa K1S 1B5. Peacefully, June 25, 2006. Long-time resident of Hilltop Manor, Merrickville, Ontario. Predeceased by parents Arthur and Margaret Crowell and step-parents Timothy and Ida O’Leary of Saint John, New Brunswick, and husband Charles T. Brewer of Ottawa. Hazel will be greatly missed by her daughter Linda M. Brewer and son-in-law Neil A. Rothwell of Ottawa. Many thanks to the staff of Hilltop Manor, her home for twenty-five years, for making her life happy and comfortable. The care of Doctors Malone, Audet and the staff at Elmgrove Unit, Brockville Psychiatric Hospital, is also greatly appreciated. Funeral arrangements private. After a long struggle with Alzheimers’, Mavis passed away peacefully at the Queensway Carleton Hospital on June 24, 2006 at the age of 80 years. Beloved wife of the late Brian John Buck; cherished mother of David, Deborah (Barry Babcock), Marcus (Norma Moores) and Harvey. Devoted grandmother of Caroline and Brian Babcock, Kelly and Shannon Buck. Predeceased by her brother Dudley Gates. A Graduate of the Ottawa Civic Hospital (O.C.H), class of ’51. Mavis and her husband were avid fans of the Ottawa 67’s where she was known as “the scarf granny”. Longtime resident of Oakridge Blvd., (Cityview). Friends may visit at the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry 150 Woodroffe Ave. at Richmond Road on Sunday, June 25 from 7 to 9 p.m., Monday, June 26, 2006 from 1 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday, June 27, 2006 from 10am until Service time in the Chapel at 11 a.m. followed by a reception and then Interment at Pinecrest Cemetery.
