SMITH, Cecil — Passed peacefully away after a lengthy illness at the Leonard A. Miller Centre, Palliative Care Unit on July 28, 2004. Cecil Smith, 74 years old. Leaving to mourn his loving wife of 49 years, Alice (nee Evans); sons: Robert (Betty) and Craig; daughters: Wanda (Victor), Glenda (Pat); grandchildren: Rob, Tracie, Patrick and Steven; great-grandchildren: Liam and Margaux; sister-in-law Anne Smith; special brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jack and Wilhelm Evans; special friends: Judy and Ron Shaw; sisters-in-law: Theresa Martin of Kitchener and Mary Woods of Milwaukee, WI; and a large circle of other relatives, friends and neighbors. Special thanks to Dr. Sharon Ripley of White Hills Medical Clinic; Dr. Hong and Dr. Andrew Lear of the cancer clinic and Karen Hennessey also from the cancer clinic. Special thanks to everyone at the cancer clinic for all their love and concern for the past 3 years; also the staff at the L.A. Miller Center Palliative Care Unit. Resting at Caul's Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation Wednesday 7 p.m. - 10 p.m.; Thursday 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. and Friday 10 a.m. - 12 noon. Frank Stanley
STANLEY, Frank – Passed peacefully away after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s at Pleasantville Terrace, St. Luke’s Homes on Saturday, July 17th, 2004. Frank Michael Stanley, age 77 years. A devoted husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Elizabeth Stanley; brothers: Bill and Leo; sisters: Marion Muncey and Mary Cleary. Leaving to mourn his wife and best friend Betty (nee Whelan); only son Frank; special daughter-in-law Paula; five grandsons, whom he treasured: Bryce (Nancy), Libya; Jason (Sara), Ottawa; Scott, St. John’s; Matthew, India; and Ben, St. John’s; sisters: Kathleen Rowe, Marg Browne and Betty Stanley Noah; also a large circle of family and friends. Frank was Superintendent of Building and Grounds, Memorial University for 32 years. He was dedicated to the University, where he had a positive impact on many lives and especially the landscaping and duck pond. He was Commodore of the Terra Nova Sailing Club, where many fellow sailors learned to see the stern of Kittiwake on race day. Frank as an avid hunter and no finer master a beagle could have had. Thank-you to Fr. Ken Walsh, Rev. Adkins, Dr. Vaughan-Jackson and the very caring staff of St. Luke’s Homes. Special thank-you to Frank’s sister Marg Brown for her constant support and bedside vigil and brother-in-law Br. David Whelan, O.S.B., Westminster Abbey, Mission City, BC, for his continuous prayers and moral support throughout Frank’s illness. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation Sunday from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. and Monday and Tuesday from 10 a.m. – 12 noon, 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Funeral Mass on Wednesday, July 21st, 2004, at 9:30 a.m. from Corpus Christi Church. HUSSEY, Mandy – Passed away suddenly at her home in Kingston, Ontario, on Sunday, July 4th , 2004, Mandy Hussey, formerly of Froude Ave. St. John’s, at the age of 29 years. Leaving to mourn mother Anne Hussey (Scott Taylor); father Douglas James of St. John’s, Loving and devoted mother of son Jade, sister of Trevor (Jamie), Cory (Melissa), Geoffrey and only sister Helen; remembered by her many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. TURPIN, Josephine E. - Passed peacefully away at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital, I .C.U, on July 5, 2004, Josephine Turpin of Kelly’s Brook Apartments, St. John’s, formerly of Trepassey, just before her 83rd birthday, July 22, 2004. Predeceased by parents John and Alice, sisters; Angela Hewitt, Lena Curtis, Anne Tobin; brothers Richard and George. Leaving to mourn her loving children, daughter Edna, son Garry, “son Adrian Clarke”; daughter-in-law Wendy, brother John; sisters-in-law: Laura (wife of John), Stella (wife of Richard (predeceased)) of Trepassey, “Aunt” Doll Clarke of St. Lawrence; four special grandchildren: David, Steven, Paul, Mark and “young John Whalen”; also many very special nephews and nieces, grand-nephews and grand-nieces, special cousins: Mary Edney, Rita O’Brien, Ephrern and Sr. Magdalen; as well as a large circle of relatives and friends, most especially, Bernie Delaney of Kelly’s Brook, Shirley Follett, a caring friend, as well as caregivers Joan, Anne Whalen, Donna Burke and staff. Patrick Joseph Wakeham
WAKEHAM, Patrick Joseph – Passed peacefully away on July 19th, 2004, at the age of 62, in St. John’s, after an eight month wait for a heart transplant. Leaving to mourn his loving wife of 39 years, Carol (Arnott); his three devoted children: Lou-Ann Kelly (Brian), Sean Wakeham (Joan) and Karen Wakeham (Craig); his five cherished grandchildren: Ian, Nicholas and Matthew Kelly and Siobhan and Emily Wakeham. Also survived by his very special brother Thomas Wakeham (Gail), brother Vincent Wakeham (Betty) and two sisters Roseann Linehan (Pat) and Mary Taylor (Glenn) and a very special aunt Sister Lillian Wakeham. Leaving to mourn also, a large circle of family and friends. Countless happy memories will keep you in our hearts forever. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. WALL, Leo – Passed peacefully away at St. Clare’s Hospital, after a short illness, on Monday, July 19th, 2004. Leo Wall, from Pouch Cove, in his 70th year. Ethel Webber
WEBBER, Ethel (nee Winsor) Whalen — Passed away suddenly at her daughter's residence on July 25, 2004, Ethel Webber in her 81st year. Predeceased by her husband Patrick Webber and special son Gary Whalen. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are sons: Ron Whalen (Liz), Edmonton, Greg Webber (Sandra), Mt. Anthony (Tony) Allison
ALLISON, Anthony (Tony) – Sadly passed away as the result of a tragic fishing accident off the coast of Greenland. Anthony (Tony) Allison, at the young age of 47 years. Predeceased by parents Mary and Edward and very special grandmother Margaret Lee. Left to mourn are wife Margie; sons: Christopher (Bridget Carroll) and Jeffrey; daughter Robyn; grandchildren: Kathleen and Tony; brothers: Jimmy, Lenny and Eddy; sisters: Donna and Sharon; mother-in-law Louise Broders. Tony will also be sadly missed by a large number of extended family and friends, especially the crew members who worked with him through the years. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Predeceased by his father and mother, John and Isabelle. Leaving to mourn his loss are his wife Gertrude; four children: Debbie (Pat), Colin (wife Veronica), Keith (wife Yvonne), and Don (Angela) ; brothers: Gordon, Gerald, Bill and Jim; sisters: Mary, Ann, Agnes, Helen; two sisters-in-law Eleanor Manning and Margaret Oest; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many friends and relatives and his special friends at the Hoyles Home, PCU, and East 1. Francis Ambrose Cody
CODY, Francis Ambrose — On Monday, June 21st, 2004, we lost a kind and gentle soul, Francis Ambrose Cody, 66 years of Kelligrews. Predeceased by his father: Francis, mother: Anne, mother-in-law: Jane Picco and special uncle: Harold Cody. He was the caring and loving husband of Margaret for the last 41 years. Also left without his loving presence are his children: Eileen (Wayne), Greg (Denise), Carolyn Anne (Bob), Christine (Ike) and Jamie. He will also be greatly missed by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and by his sisters: Eileen, Margaret and Anne, friends and those whose lives he gently touched. He will be forever loved, greatly missed but never forgotten by his family and friends. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. CRANFORD, Herbert — Passed peacefully away at the Escasoni Complex on Tuesday, June 15, 2004, Herbert Cranford, aged 87 years. Former journalist, writer, poet, composer, pianist, and musician. Affectionately known as "Herbie the Piano Man" at the Ship Inn, and a member of Melody Makers Band in the 1940's. Leaving to mourn wife Phyllis at the Escasoni; daughters: Jane Moss (Stewart) of Nova Scotia, Brenda Dollmont (Bernie) of Nova Scotia; son: Richard Cranford of Montreal; grandson Antonio, Santigo, Spain; brother: Ed (Shirly); special friend: Rev. Nelson LeGrow. Also his friends and staff at the Escasoni. Resting at Caul's Funeral Home, LeMarchant Rd. on Wednesday from 2 pm - 4 pm and 7 pm - 9 pm.
