July 7, 1913 - May 31, 2004. Peacefully at Fairview Lodge Nursing Home, Whitby on Monday May 31, 2004 in her 91st year. Beloved wife of Frank for 64 years. Daughter of the late William and Alice Ward. Mother of Robert (Betty), Mary (Elmer) and Ronald (Lynn). Loving grandmother of Jeff (Kim), Greg (Kim), Tim, Tamra, Todd (Bente), Kevin and Sarah, Great grandmother of Michael, Adam, Shelby, Kurtis, Evan, Vega and Gaia. Predeceased by sisters Audrey and Madeline, brothers Walter, Ronald and William. According to Mrs. Barton's wishes there will be no funeral service or visitation. Donations to the Alzheimers Society in her memory would be appreciated.

BROCKMAN, John Bernard (Jack)
(World War II Veteran- Queen s Own Rifles- 48th Highlanders. General Motors employee of 39 years. 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.) passed away peacefully at home in his 87th year. Now reunited with his wife of 63 years Norma Alberta. Loving father to Gloria Elliott (Murray), Pat Wynne ( Mike, predeceased). Brother of Bob Brockman (Gaile) of Little Britain. Predeceased by brother Don and sister Betty Young. Grandfather to Lisa Benoit (Bill), Jennifer Johnson (Andrew), Andrea Reiffenstein (Charles), Johanna Sapinski, Jonathan Sapinski, Kelly Drury (Grant) and Jim Elliott. Great Grandfather to Jacob, Danielle, Nicholas, Jessica, Anthony, Lucas and Noelia. He was a mentor to all who knew him and will be greatly missed. Jack was a gentle man, a loving husband and devoted father. He served his country during W.W. II and gave countless hours of volunteer work to many organizations in the City of Oshawa. Peacefully in his 89th year surrounded by his family at the Ajax-Pickering Hospital on May 31, 2004 after a brief illness. Beloved husband of Joan (nee Clarke). Predeceased by Dorathy May Stephens. Dear father of John Stephens (Ann), Rosemarie Steffan (Hans), and dear stepfather of George Clarke (Anna-Marie). Proud grandfather of John Stephens (Michelle), Jim Chandler (Theresa), Peter Chandler (Maureen), Dorothy Whittacker (Ray), and Lisa Black (Keith). Also survived by 11 Great Grandchildren. A celebration of John's life will be held at the Whitby Legion Hall, 117 Byron St., South Whitby, on Sunday June 20th, 2004 from 1 to 4 pm.

BRANDT, Bruce
(Long time employee and Supervisor of Houdaille Industries and A. G. Simpson). On Sunday, May 30th, 2004, Bruce went to be with his Lord peacefully in his sleep at Lakeridge Health-Oshawa, in his 75th year. Beloved husband of Dorothy (nee Stevens). Loving father of Mark. Dear grandfather of Aaron. Brother of Betty and her husband Benson Brown, Eleanor and her husband Ken Reid, and the late Robert Bob and his wife Lois. Sister-in-law of Diane and her husband Fred Short. Predeceased by his father Roy and his grandmother Sabina Fergusson, and aunt Mary Richardson. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Dorothy of 55 years, several nieces, nephews, cousins and many thoughtful friends. A special thanks to Drs. Fry, W. J. COLLEY, Patricia 'Pat' Edna
At Lakeridge Health Corp. Oshawa, on Sunday, May 30, 2004. Pat, in her 65th year. Loving mother of Donna Meikle and her husband Billy of Oshawa and Donnie Colley and his fiancee Maureen Cosway of Bowmanville. Fondly remembered by her grandchildren Sabrina Colley, Paisley Meikle, Krystal Meikle, Mitchell Colley and great-grandchildren Keagan Colley and Zander Colley. Survived by 6 sisters and 6 brothers. At Pat's request cremation has taken place. LAWRENCE, Michael D. (WW II Veteran)
Lost his final battle with cancer at Soldier's Memorial Hospital in Orillia on Sunday, May 30th, 2004, in his 81st year. He died comfortably in the presence of family and maintained his independence until the end. Predeceased by his brother Ron and sister Audrey in Britain, and his son-in law Herb Bauer. He will be keenly missed by his wife of 60 years Mina. Lovingly remembered by his children Robert, Susan and Kevin, daughter-in-laws Deirdre and Sharon and his six grandchildren. Mike was a man who always turned his eyes to the heavens. As a young boy in the farming village of Headcorn, Kent, Britain, he looked into the skies and dreamed of flying. He became an R.A.F. cadet and found himself thrown into the cauldron of war and piloted four engine bombers over Hitler's Europe at the age of 19. He also flew transports during the Berlin Airlift. He was a member of 429 (Georgina) Wing of the Air Force Association of Canada and supported his grandson Michael's Air Cadet 659 Squadron. After the war he came to Canada seeking opportunity and became President of Comfy Home Furnishings, a Division of Silknit Corporation. He and Mina spent many years travelling the world. He admired Terry Fox for his spirit and strength of purpose and participated in every single run and personally raised tens of thousands of dollars. He ran even when twice battling cancer and two months after a major operation. He continued to cast his gaze heavenwards and was fascinated with the celestial bodies above us and willingly shared his interest in the stars and planets and their beginnings. Mike was a gentle man and a gentleman, a man of uncommon integrity and will be terribly missed. He was cremated privately on June 1, 2004. A private church service will be held for family June 27, 2004 at BRECHIN UNITED CHURCH followed by a celebration of his life at 3:00 p.m. on the same date at the Lagoon City Community Centre where all his friends are invited to join his family in remembering a life well lived. Suddenly, on Sunday, May 30, 2004. Charlie, in his 62nd year. Beloved husband of Hayde Penda-Ranger. It is with a deep sadness that the family announce the passing of a much loved Mother and Nana. Constance Mary Hamilton, nee Cooper, in her 87th year on Friday, May 28, 2004, at Lakeridge Oshawa. McKELLAR, Marguerite (Carroll)
passed away on Friday, May 28, 2004, at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville, in her 79th year. She leaves husband Norman after nearly 60 years, son Glenn and daughter-in-law Maureen, daughter Lea Anne and son-in-law David Zielonko, daughter-in-law Daphne of Vancouver, and son-in-law Sherwin Huth of Toronto; granddaughters Andrea, Elizabeth, Sarah, Kaileah, Katya, and Hannah, grandsons Christopher, Cory, and Cameron. She was predeceased by daughter Susan and son Gary. Her friends will remember her positive and pleasant personality here in Ontario and Florida where they wintered. Marguerite served in the R.C.A.F. as a wireless operator during WWII. She was an outstanding athlete in fastball and track in her youth, then golf, taking club championship at Meadowbrook Golf and Newcastle Golf. She was an avid gardener with a floral display in Wilmot Creek, and each spring she propagated perennials to sell for charity and leaves a legacy of plants throughout Wilmot Creek. She had a talent for paper tolle art produced here and in Florida. Marguerite was a devoted mother to Glenn, Gary, Lea Anne, and in caring for Susan who had Cystic Fibrosis. Norman was always grateful for her loyal support during his career and their sixty years together. Following cremation, friends may call for a memorial gathering at the NEWCASTLE FUNERAL HOME, 386 Mill St. S., (just north of 401 at the lights) on Wednesday, June 2, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A memorial service will be held in NEWCASTLE FELLOWSHIP BAPTIST CHURCH, 200 King Ave. E., on Thursday, June 3, at 11:00 a.m. In Marguerite s memory, donations to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation would be appreciated by her family.

Beloved wife of the late William A. Hicks, (WWII Veteran) and dear mother of Edith, William, Kenneth, Donald and Heather. Loving daughter of the late Joseph and Lucy Barrow. Dear sister of Edith, Irene, Rose Marie, Betty and Bessie. Aunt and great aunt to many nieces and nephews. We would like to extend our sincere thanks for the wonderful care, treatment and compassion that was shown our mother by the caring staff at Thorntonview Nursing Home. We are very thankful to the Doctors and nursing staff of 9 Main of Lakeridge Health Oshawa, especially Nurse Sharon Panyan for her comfort and compassion.
