Born in Port De Grave, Newfoundland, he was a son of the late Albert and Elizabeth (Morgan) Dawe. He worked as an office manager with Asarco in Buchans, Newfoundland for 40 years. In 1976 he and his wife moved to New Minas and spent their winter months in Florida. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Ken-Wo Golf and Country Club, New Minas; the Gyro Club, and the St. James Anglican Church, Kentville.
