McCOMB, Joan Marion (nee Kelly)
A remarkable woman peacefully passed away on January 14, 2006. Loving wife, “right-hand man” and best friend of 62 years to Ted. Wonderful and devoted mother of Barbara Leal and her husband Bob and Ted McComb and his wife Merrill. Cherished grandmother of Kathy Leal, Dr. Greg Leal and his wife Denise and Justin McComb. Adoring great grandmother of Avery, Keegan, Cameron and Cple Leal. Joan is predeceased by her parents Marion and Francis Kelly. Dear sister of Catherine (Kitty) Harding and the late Ted and Mary. Dear sister-in-law of Glad Williams and Ethel Kelly. Joan will be fondly remembered by her nieces, nephews, family and friends. Joan was an enthusiastic dedicated volunteer for 48 years at Oshawa General Hospital Auxiliary. In October 2005, she was recognized by the Ontario Government for her years of service. She was also a Girl Guide Leader and a volunteer for the Canadian Legion Branch #43. Joan was an avid curler, golfer, figure skater and baseball and hockey fan. The family extends their heartfelt thanks for the compassionate care received from the staff of 3F at Lakeridge Health Oshawa. Friends may call at OSHAWA FUNERAL SERVICE“Thornton Chapel”, 847 King Street West (905-721-1234) for visitation on Tuesday, January 17 from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. and on Wednesday, January 18 from 10:00 A.M. until time of service in the chapel at 11:00 A.M. NORMAN, Maud
Entered into rest at Thorntonview Nursing Home, Oshawa on Saturday, January 14, 2006 in her 102nd year. Maud, beloved wife of the late Fred. Loving mother of Doris Hawe and her late husband Al, Lloyd and his wife Barbara, Jack and his wife Diane, and Fred and his wife Heather. Fondly remembered by her 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 3 great- great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the W.C. TOWN FUNERAL CHAPEL, 110Dundas Street East, Whitby (905-668-3410) from 9:15 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Tuesday. Service in the Chapel on Tuesday, January 17, 2006 at 10 a.m. Interment, St. John's Norway Cemetery, Toronto. In memoriam, donations may be made to the Salvation Army.

SCOTT, James (Jim) Thomson Warrender
January 1, 1923 - January 14, 2006. Born and educated in Fife, Scotland, James passed away peacefully at Hillsdale Estates, Oshawa. Long time British Merchant Navy Officer in war and peace. Project estimator and planner in Toronto, then latterly employed in the electrical department of General Motors, Oshawa. Predeceased by beloved Rachel and elder brother John, British Royal Navy. Beloved father of Sheila Scott and Lorna Scott-Haas and her husband Alain Haas. Fondly remembered by his grandchildren Kyle and Nolan Haas. Survived by his younger brother Robert, British Merchant Navy and his very dear close friend Judith Cook. No funeral service as per James request. In his memory, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

SMITH, Frederick William
Died peacefully on Saturday, January 14, 2006 in his 94th year at Extendicare-Port Hope. Beloved husband of the late Esther Winnifred (nee Jeavons), and Doris Hayes of England. Fred will be sadly missed by his long time companion Elsie Hasiak and her daughters Susan Hall and Christine Kruczek. Loving father of Colin of Oshawa and Brian, Carol, Cheryl, Sharon, Steven and Adrian, all of England. Son of the late Martha Annie and William Fred Smith of Birmingham, England. Brother of the late Douglas Haig Smith. Sadly missed by his many grandchildren. Fred was born in Birmingham, England where he worked for Baggington Air Craft and Jaguar Motor Company. After coming to Canada, he worked for Standard Auto Glass in Scarborough. He was a former member of Oshawa Navy Club and the Moose Lodge 2132 (Wilson Road, Oshawa). A funeral service was held on Monday, January 16, 2006 at 4:00 P.M. Arrangements entrusted to OSHAWA FUNERAL SERVICE (905-721-1234).

TWAITES-TURNER, Catherine Mary
July 11, 1950 – January 14, 2006
“After a long and courageous battle, our heavenly father has called his beautiful, loving and caring lady home.”
Loving mother of Sarah and her husband Joshua Kellar, Heather Turner and her fiancé William Charette. Survived by her parents Kathleen and George Twaites, brother Brian and his wife Sue Twaites and sister Carol and her husband Roger Hudson. Predeceased by her brother Bobby. Fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews and friends. Special thanks to the personal support workers Mary and Gwen, palliative care of Lakeridge Health Oshawa and her caring nurses. Visitation was held on Monday, January 16, 2006 from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. at OSHAWA FUNERAL SERVICE “Thornton Chapel”, 847 King Street West (905-721-1234). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, January 17, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel. Interment at Mount Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations to the New Durham Regional Cancer Centre would be appreciated by the family.

BARD (Todkill), Eileen Isabel
passed away peacefully in her 94th year on January 13, 2006, at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville. Eileen is predeceased by husbands Gerard Todkill and Erwin Bard. Beloved mother of Brian and Elma Todkill, Andrea and Mike Breaugh, and Jeannine Harpell. Devoted grandmother of Sean, Philip, Erin, Nicole, Chris, Ryan and Reid. Proud great-grandmother of Kiera, Taylor, Ty and Alexander. At her request, a private family service will be held.

BOYKO, Thomas
Peacefully on Friday January 13, 2006 at Lakeridge Health Oshawa in his 94th year. Thomas, is predeceased by his wife Olga, and his daughter and son in law Lesia and Michael. Thomas is survived by grandsons Thomas, and William, and great grandchildren Irene, Andrew, and John; brother Peter Boyko, and sisters in law Kathy and Anne. Thomas will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all his loving family and friends. In Oshawa on Friday January 13th, 2006, in his 37th year. Beloved son of the late Ray and Faye Burgoyne. Beloved nephew of Anne and Adam Goreski. Father of Kathleen and Jacob. Brother of Joanne of Florida, Penny and Cathy of Fergus, Ontario. Cousin of Derek Goreski and Patricia Baker. Survived by nieces & nephews. Resting at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, 124 King Street East, Oshawa with funeral service in the Chapel on Thursday January 19, 2006 at 1 p.m. Interment Zion Cemetery in the spring. CHRISTMANN, Paul Philip
(31 year employee of Hydro One) passed away at Oshawa on Friday January 13, 2006 in his 54th year. Paul, beloved husband of Laurie. Dear son of Donna and the late Cecil “Poag” Christmann. Brother of Mark and Brent. Fondly remembered by his nephews Lee and Christopher Boeckner, Shawn and Brandon Danard and by his many relatives and friends. Following cremation, the family will receive friends at the W.C. TOWN FUNERAL CHAPEL, 110 Dundas Street East, Whitby (905-668-3410) from 12 to 1pm on Thursday January 19, 2006. A Memorial Service will follow at 1pm in the Chapel. Paul and his father Cecil “Poag” will be interred together in the spring at Sanctuary Cemetery in Port Elgin, ON, through W. CRISP, Gladys Ruth
Peacefully at the Rouge Valley Health Centre - Ajax, on Friday, January 13, 2006 in her 75th year. Beloved wife of Glenn. Loving mother of Glenn and his wife Gale, Wanda and Patti and her husband Rick Howes. Cherished grandmother to David, Grant and Graham. Sister to Dana Bedford and his wife Margaret and the late Eva French. Gladys will be sadly missed by family and all who knew her. GARNER, Kenneth ''Ken''
Peacefully, on Friday, January 13, 2006 at the Rouge Valley Health Centre - Ajax Site. Ken, beloved husband of Joyce for 52years. Cherished father of George and his wife Cindy, Dave and his wife Anne, and Paul and his wife Nancy. Devoted Papa to Mike, Derek, Craig, Jaclyn, Dayna, Corey and Alanna. Lovingly remembered by his brother, sister and brother-in-law and their families. Inlieu of flowers, donations made in Ken's memory to the Alzheimer Society of Durham or to the Rouge Valley Health Centre - Ajax Site, in recognition of the care Ken received, would be greatly appreciated by his family.

HICKEY, Martin Peter “Marty”
Marty, age 73 died tragically on Friday, January 13th, 2006 as a result of an accident. Marty was full of life and always had a story to tell. Throughout his life, Marty was active in the community coaching minor league hockey in Mississauga and Toronto, and as a player/coach in the New Toronto Baseball League. In recent years he enjoyed playing his harmonica to serenade seniors, on cruises and wherever he went. Mart was an avid roller skater and took great pleasure in ballroom style dancing on his roller skates right up to his final days. He will be sadly missed by his many friends at the roller rink. Marty will be remembered as one of the great “garage salers” of his time, who always had an eye for the bargains. Marty is predeceased by his parents Peter and Alberta Hickey, a loving wife of 39 years to Sophie (nee Uba), brothers Paul, Edwin and Gerald. Marty was lucky enough to find a very special woman in Thelma. Marty leaves behind his loving wife Thelma of 9 years, formally Thelma Gillis (nee Desroches); his children Linda (Charlie) Grieve of Half Moon Bay, British Columbia, Wendy Legree of Oakville, Susie (Ken) Sharp of Oshawa, Ed (Lee) Hickey of Brampton and Ann (Gary) Simpson of Cobourg; ten grandchildren Caitlin and Chelsea Grieve; Trisha, Darren and, Bradley James Legree; Ashlea Jamee and, Andrea Sharp; Lindsey and Daniel Hickey; and three great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind brothers John and Jim Hickey, and sister Helen Ashcroft. Marty will also be sadly missed by Thelma’s family, Sheila (Mark) Rogers, Greg Gillis and his children Katie and Christopher; Charlene (Peter) MacDonald and their son Bryce, Poppa’s special friend and Muffy the dog. Mother of Stephen and wife Diane; mother of Leslie Ann Legge and husband Doug, devoted grandmother of Samuel and Desmond; mother of Vincent and wife Barbara, grandmother of Andrea and Wesley.
