Peacefully at Credit Valley Hospital, Mississauga after a courageous battle with leukemia, on Thursday, February 9, 2006, in her 79th year. Violet (nee Walsh), loving and devoted wife of the late Howard James Dempsey of Newcastle. Dear mother of Brian and his wife Vivian of Calgary, Keith of Newcastle, Leila (Lee) and her husband Bruno Tucci of Mississauga, and Barry of Toronto. Sadly missed by grandchildren Lisa, Nicole, and Steven. Sister of Evelyn and her late husband John Cowie of Calgary and Barbara and her husband Andrew MacKenzie of Montreal. CYR, Andrew (Andy)
After a courageous battle with cancer, Andy passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loved ones on Thursday, February 9, 2006 at the age of 70. Beloved husband of Gilberte (nee Nadeau) for 49 years, loving father of Michael (Sharon), Louis and Beverly and proud grandfather of Joshua, Timothy and Nicole. Andy will be sadly missed by his sisters Sonya, Norma and Mary. Family and friends will be received at COURTICE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1587 Highway #2, Courtice on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will take place on Monday February 13 at 11 a.m. at St. Therese Catholic Church, 3800 Courtice Road North, Courtice. Cherished Great-Grandmother of Emily and Jessica Olesky, Alexandra and Morgan Stewart, Julian and Cameron Haineault and Paige Hicks. Predeceased by her mother and father Florence and Anton Ostafew and her five brothers and three sisters. STEVENS, Frances Joan
passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family at Lakeridge Health-Oshawa on Wednesday, February 8th, 2006 at the age of 80 years. Joan, loving wife of Robert. Dear mother of Joe (Christena) Stevens of Courtice, Eric (Shirley) Stevens of Colorado Springs, U.S.A., Susan (Max) Hearne of Sidney, Australia and Peter (Sherry) Stevens of Ottawa. Cherished Grandmother of Patrick, Shawn, Ashley, Rhys, Allana, Matthew and Andrew. Joan was a prolific painter, producing dozens of nature paintings. She was often Rules Chairperson at Sunnydale Golf Course in Courtenay, B.C. and swung a mean club herself. Her gardens covered 2 acres all told, with the asparagus patch alone being literally 50 feet square. The rose garden was 200 square feet. She was Vice President of Comox Legion Branch 160 and chaired the Poppy Committee for many campaigns. A devout Anglican and accomplished seamstress, she made full vestments for 3 padres. She was an air force bride and lived across Canada, and finally settled in Courtenay, B.C. A stroke in 1995 slowed her down a bit, but another in January 2005 claimed her right arm and speech. She moved to Hillsdale Estates in October 2005 to be closer to her family and was well received in her short stay there. She will be fondly remembered … A special thank you to the chaplains and nursing staff at Lakeridge Health-Oshawa and the caring staff at Hillsdale Estates. Loving and devoted wife for 53 years of Willem (Bill) Veenendaal of Wilmot Creek, Newcastle. Dear mother of Anita Jordan and her husband Michael Swarbrick of Ajax, and Milly Ryan and her husband Kevin of St. Louis, Missouri. Sadly missed by her grandchildren Jason Huhn, Jennifer Boyd and her husband Steve, and Heather Huston, all of Ajax, one great-grandson, Jackson Howard Willem Boyd, soon to be. Survived by her sister Alida Vlug Purmerend of the Netherlands. Peacefully at the Bloomington Cove Nursing Home in Stouffville on February 8, 2006. In her 85th year. Predeceased by her husband Roy. Survived by her sister Grace Nugent and predeceased by sisters Ruth Phoenix, Mary Tomlinson and Evelyn Lapping. Will be sadly missed by her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many friends. A graveside service will occur in the spring. In Ruby's memory, donations to the Alzheimer's Society or to the Charity of choice would be appreciated by the family.
