Passed away peacefully at Sunnycrest Nursing Home, Whitby on Tuesday, March 28th, 2006. He leaves behind his wife Phyllis James, step-daughter Julia and husband Vodeck Fedorowicz of Whitby, step-son Peter Hitchcock, his wife Kim and their children Jasper and Austin of Toronto. He is fondly remembered by his sister-in-law Rosaline Rayman of Whitby and her family. Eric James spent his life making music. He displayed clear talent with his toy piano as a five year old child and within ten years was providing musical accompaniment in a London cinema at the twilight of the silent era. After serving in the entertainment division in the R.A.F. during WWII, he began his twenty year association with the BBC, performing on more than a thousand broadcasts. He went on to conduct, compose and accompany many well know entertainers. His greatest accomplishment was as the sole music associate to the late Sir Charles Chaplin. He emigrated to Canada in 1988 with his wife Phyllis where he published his autobiography entitled: Making Music with Charlie Chaplin.
