William (Bill) Reid
1920-2000
The death of William (Bill) Reid age 80 of Springhill occurred suddenly at the Highland View Hospital, Amherst on Tuesday, December 26, 2000.
Born in Westcock, NB, he was a son of the Late Charles & Hazel (King) Reid. A veteran of World War II he served with the 8th Canadian Hussars, 5th Armored Regiment in Africa, Sicily, Italy, the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He served 25 years with Corrections Canada in Springhill and Dorchester.
Bill will be sadly missed by his wife of 55 years, the former Marjorie (Dixon), Springhill, 2 sons, James and Bill, both of Springhill, a daughter, Madeline (Gordon) MacDonald, Truro, NS, 2 brothers, Bert (June) Reid and Otis Reid, both of Sackville, 2 sisters, Clementine Allen of Sackville and Marie Buck of Hamilton, ON., 5 grandchildren.
The remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville (364-1300) where visitation will be held Saturday, December 30, 2000 from 1 PM until the time of the funeral service at 2 PM. Funeral service will be conducted by Rev. Glenn Stone at 2 PM Saturday. Burial will take place in the Sackville Cemetery.

Donald Ernest Maxwell
June 15, 1915 - December 21, 2000
The death of Donald Maxwell, age 85 of Sackville and British Settlement, NB occurred suddenly at his home on Thursday, December 21, 2000.
Born in British Settlement he was the son of the Late Ernest and Annie (Cook) Maxwell.
Prior to his retirement he had been employed with Enterprise Foundry and the Enamel & Heating Foundry, Sackville. He was a member of St, Ann's Anglican Church, Westcock, NB.
Predeceased by his parents and his sister Reta (Campbell) he is survived by nephews, James, Wayne and Robert Campbell and niece Shirley McAuley, all of Ottawa, ON.
The remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville (364-1300) with visiting hours Wednesday, December 27, 2000 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. The funeral service will be held Thursday, December 28, 2000 at the funeral home at 10:30 AM, Rev. Robert Leblanc officiating. Burial in the Westcock Cemetery.

Cordelia Jean Lake
November 15, 1914 - December 29, 2000
The death of Jean Lake age 86 of Murray Corner occurred at the Sackville Memorial Hospital, on Friday, December 29, 2000.
Born in Murray Corner, NB, she was a daughter of the Late Stephen and Effie (Scott) Field.
Jean was a member of the Murray Corner First United Church a former church treasurer and member of the UCW, and past member of the Port Elgin Senior Citizen's Club. She was a well known storekeeper at Lake's General Store for 35 years in Murray Corner.
She will be sadly missed by her husband of 65 years , John Lake of Murray Corner , 3 sons; Wallace (Meredith) and Winston (Margaret) both of Murray Corner, and Stanley (Karen) of Halifax, 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by sisters, Hazel, Hannah and Myrtle and a brother Fred.
Jean Lake's funeral and burial arrangements have been entrusted to the Jones Funeral Home, 3 West Main St, Port Elgin, NB (364-1300) from where visiting hours will be held Saturday, December 30, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM.
The funeral service will be held at the First United Church, Murray Corner on Sunday, December 31, 2000 at 2 PM. Burial in the Fernwood Cemetery, Port Elgin in the Spring. Those wishing may make donations to First United Church, Murray Corner or a charity of their choice.

David Norman Hicks
March 1, 1952 - December 6, 2000
The death of David Hicks, age 48, of Sackville, occurred suddenly at the Moncton City Hospital on Wednesday, December 6, 2000.
Born in Sackville, he was a beloved son of Jennie (McFee) and the Late Norman L. Hicks.
David was a great lover of life. He was a special brother and son, and a friend to all who knew him.
He is survived by his mother Jennie, his brother Carl (Barbara) of Clinton, ON, 2 nieces; Robyn and Stacy, 3 great nieces; Jenna, Jayden and Shalena, and great nephew Reeve. He was predeceased by his father in 1996 and by an infant brother.
David's remains rested at the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St, Sackville, NB 364-1300 on Thursday. The funeral service will be from the funeral home on Friday, December 8, 2000 at 2 PM, Pastor Steve Knowles officiating. Burial will follow in the Sackville Cemetery. Donations may be given to the Salem Baptist Church, or charity of the donor's choice.

Albert John Boorne
1901 - 2000
Albert John Boorne died peacefully in his sleep on December 14, 2000, at the Drew Nursing Home in Sackville, New Brunswick. He was 99 years old. Mr. Boorne was born in Ottawa, Ontario, on October 22, 1901. He attended school in Ottawa and was employed for 40 years with the Canadian Bank of Commerce. He worked for the Bank in Ottawa, Lindsay, Peterborough, Trenton and Toronto, Ontario. He was a Branch Manager in Toronto and Trenton, and retired as Principal of the Bank of Commerce Staff College in Toronto. For many years he was a elder of the United Church of Canada, and a member of various social organizations.
On December 13, 1925, 75 years prior to his death, he married Stella Mae Lawson in Ottawa, and they remained happily married until her death in 1988. After his retirement from the Bank, Mr. and Mrs. Boorne returned to Ottawa, and in 1982 they moved into the Lodge on Porter's Island in Ottawa. In 1994, Mr. Boorne moved to Sackville, New Brunswick where he resided happily with his grandson Stephen, granddaughter-in-law Jessie, and their family, until 1999. He then moved into the Drew Nursing Home. Interment will be in Ottawa in the Spring where he will join his wife, Stella.
In his youth, Mr. Boorne was very active in sports. He was the youngest member of the Ottawa Gunners Hockey Club when they won the Ottawa and District Championship in 1920. He also played for the Bank of Commerce in the Ottawa Bank League, which was taken very seriously in those days. He often joked that he was hired by the Bank primarily to play hockey. His subsequent rise through the ranks led his family and friends to question this modest assessment of his banking abilities. Throughout his life he was a polite and courteous gentlemen, and he will be sorely missed. He is survived by his son Ron, daughter-in-law Danise, grandson Stephen, granddaughter-in-law Jessie, great grandsons Jeremy and Anthony, and great granddaughter Sarah, all of Sackville, New Brunswick; and sister-in-law Helen Lalonde, brother-in-law Manuel Lalonde, and several nieces and nephews in Ottawa.
Those who wish to honour his memory may make donations to the Drew Nursing Home in Sackville, New Brunswick, in recognition of the great kindness and respect with which he was treated by the staff until the end.

Harry Cyril Stright
June 6, 1910 - December 7, 2000
The death of Harry Cyril Stright of Murray Corner, NB occurred at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Thursday, December 7,2000 at the age of 90 yrs.
Born in Murray Corner he was a son of the Late Leslie and Clara (Field) Stright.
He was a member of the Port Elgin Senior Citizen Club, and a member, former Elder and current Honorary Elder of the Murray Corner United Church. He was a lifelong fisherman, lobster buyer and barber.
He will be sadly missed by his wife Sadie (Strongman) of Murray Corner, 2 sons; Kermath (Gertrude) of Bayfield, and Sheldon (Doreen) of Lismore, NS, 1 Daughter; Mrs. Joyce (Donald) Clark, of Stickney, NB, 1 Sister; Jessie Murray of Shediac Cape, NB, 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He is predeceased by a daughter Doris in 1980 and a foster daughter Iona in 1970.
The remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home, 3 West Main St., Port Elgin, NB (364-1300) on Friday and Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. The funeral will be held at the Murray Corner United Church on Sunday December 10, 2000 at 2:00 pm, Rev. Carolyn Byers officiating. Burial will follow in the Fernwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Sackville Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Murray Corner United Church or charity of the donors choice.

Ivy Stright
January 17, 2001
The death of Ivy Stright, age 70 occurred Wednesday, January 17, 2001 at the Moncton City Hospital.
Born in Little Shemogue on January 17, 1931 he was a son of the Late Cecil and Annie (Thompson) Stright.
A patternmaker with Enterprise-Fawcett Foundry he continued to work until the fall of 2000.
Ivy will be sadly missed by his 3 sons, Terry (Ruth), Ingersoll, ON, Ronald, Sackville and Cecil (Tracy), Kentville, NS, 2 daughters, Sally de Graaf (Henry), Ingersoll, ON and Sheila Stright, Amherst, NS, 3 brothers, Garnet (Betty), Carlton Place, ON, Leslie (Evelyn), Brantford, ON and Laurie, Ingersoll, ON., 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He was predeceased by his wife Ruth in 1988, a daughter Susan in 2000 and a brother Ronald in 2000.
The remains have been entrusted to the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville (364-1300) with visitation Friday from 7 to 9 and Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, January 21, 2001 at 2 PM, Rev, Dr. Jamie Gripton officiating. Burial in the Sackville Cemetery in the spring.

William Lysle Murray
December 10, 1926 - December 8, 2000
With great sadness the family of William Lysle Murray, age 73, of Sackville, announce his passing at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Friday, December 8, 2000.
Born in Murray Corner, NB he was a son of Annie (Hayes) and the late Waldo Murray.
Lysle worked with the NB Telephone Co. for 37 years, retiring in 1982. Joining the Sackville Fire Dept. in 1953 he served 43 years as a Volunteer Fireman, UNICEF volunteer and for 17 years was Deputy Fire Chief being appointed Fire Chief in 1990 retiring in 1993. In August 1995, Lysle was awarded the Merit Award from the Town of Sackville.
Lysle leaves to mourn his mother, Annie Murray, Murray Corner, his wife of 50 years, Rachel (Hicks), Sackville, 2 daughters, Debbie (Leonard) Manderson of Lake George, NB; and Brenda (Glen) MacKenzie, Sackville and a son Douglas, of Sackville, Grandchildren: Jeffrey (Kim) Manderson, Ottawa, Jason Manderson, Calgary, Erica Manderson, Lake George, Natasha (Adam) Gallant, Sackville, and Sarah MacKenzie, Calgary. 2 great grandchildren: Tyler Manderson & Jaden Gallant, a brother Steward (Donna), Murray Corner; sisters: Eileen (Eugene) Cameron, Sackville, Cora (Everett) Parker, Moncton, Louise (Guy) Trenholm, Port Elgin, Donna (Ray) Banting, Moncton, Marla Rogers, Moncton and Joy (Bill) Bubar of Hamilton, ON. Lysle was predeceased by his father Waldo, sister Viva, brother Douglas and infant daughter Sharon.

Frances Muriel Tower
November 20, 1915 - December 7, 2000
The death of Frances Tower, age 85, of Sackville, occurred at the Moncton City Hospital on Thursday, December 7, 2000.
Born in Johnson Mills, NB she was a daughter of the Late Rufus and Elizabeth (Tower) Seaman.
She will be sadly missed by 4 sons, Courtney (Gail), Robert (Nancy), Brian(Jean) and Christoper (Terri) all of Sackville, 3 daughters, Shirley (Edsel) Stokes, Hamilton, ON, Judy Estabrooks, Sackville and Claudia (Chelsea) Snowdon of Wood Point, NB. 22 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Claude in 1989, a son Medley in 1996, 1 brother and 3 sisters.
Frances' remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville (364-1300) with visiting hours Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. Funeral service will be held Monday, December 11, 2000 at 11 AM, Pastor John Kiehn officiating. Burial in the Rockport Cemetery.

Joseph Gerard "Jerry" Boudreau
1923 - 2001
The death of Gerard "Jerry" Boudreau, age 78 of Dorchester, occurred at the Moncton City Hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Cap Pele, NB and raised by his grandparents, Dominique and Marie (Donelle) Boudreau, he was a son of the Late Claudia Boudreau-Leblanc.
A pipe fitter and maintenance man, he retired to Dorchester after living in Scarborough, ON for 30 years. He was a member of St. Vincent's Roman Catholic Church, Sackville. A veteran of World War II, he served with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders, Canadian Army in Canada and Great Britain. He was a member of the Dorchester Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion.
Jerry will be sadly missed by his daughter, Darlene (Dana) Holmes, Dorchester, his companion Margaret Madder, Dorchester, 2 brothers, Aurele (Peggy) Leblanc, Moncton, and Joe (Bernadette) Leblanc, Saint John, a sister Theresa (John) Garrett, North Bay, ON, 3 grandchildren, Miranda, Charles and Alan Dawson, all of Dorchester, his first wife Winnifred Bernard, Sackville, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his second wife May Wilson and his sister Clementine.
The remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville, NB (364-1300) with visiting hours Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. The Dorchester Branch # 16 of the Royal Canadian Legion will hold a memorial service Monday at 7:30. All are invited to a prayer vigil at the funeral home Monday at 8:30 conducted by Father Jeff Doucette. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 22, 2001 at 11 AM. Burial in the St. Edward's Parish Cemetery, Dorchester.

Austin Oulton
June 14, 2001
The death of Austin Oulton, age 80, of Bayfield, occurred suddenly at the Sackville Hospital on Thursday, June 14, 2001.
Born in Cape Spear, NB, he was a son of the late William E. and Alice M. (Strang) Oulton.
Austin was a member of the Westmorland Masonic Lodge #44 F & AM, having just received his 50year pin. He was also a member of the Eastern Star, the Bayfield United Church, and an active member of the Bayfield Cemetery Committee. He was a life long farmer, and was a contractor having worked for the CNR and the Department of Highways.
Austin will be sadly missed by 3 sons; Donald (Sandrea) of Bayfield, Dale (Marty) of Brampton, ON, and Bruce (Nancy) of Bradford, ON, 1 daughter; Marlene Oulton of Moncton, 1 brother; Blake of Bathurst, 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife the former Irene Ibbitson in 1985, 1 brother; Olen, and 4 sisters; Jennie, Edyth, Charlotte, and Edna.
The remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home, 3 Main St., Port Elgin with visitation on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home Sunday, June 17, 2001 at 2:30 PM. Cremation will follow, burial will take place in the Bayfield Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Bayfield Cemetery or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Westmorland Masonic Lodge # 44 F & AM will hold a memorial service at the funeral home Saturday evening at 7:30 PM.

Elmer Arnold MacDonald
1925 - 2001
The death of Elmer MacDonald, age 75, of Dorchester, occurred at the Moncton City Hospital on Tuesday, June 5, 2001.
Born in Chignecto, NS, he was a son of Arnold MacDonald and the Late Margaret (McFadden) MacDonald.
Before retirement, Elmer was a 33 year employee with Corrections Canada. A veteran of World War II he served with the RCAF in England, France and Germany from 1941 to 1945. He was a member of the Dorchester Branch #16 Royal Canadian Legion and of Sussex Masonic Lodge F & AM. He was formerly a member of the Sackville Golf and Country Club.
Elmer will be sadly missed by his warbride of 55 years, Doris (Jones), Dorchester, his father, Arnold MacDonald, Amherst, NS, a son Keith (Lucille), Dorchester, 3 daughters, Carrolyn (Gary) Smith, Dorchester, Gloria (Gilles) Foley, Tweed, ON, and Jane Loster, Dorchester, a brother Roy, Amherst, 3 sisters, Betty Hebert, Fergus, ON , Doreen McFadden and Elsie Brown, both of Amherst.
The remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville, (364-1300) with visiting hours Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM, the funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, June 8, 2001 at 2 PM. The death of Ronald Kay, age 62, of Point de Bute, occurred at the Dr. George du Mont Hospital on Monday, June 4, 2001.
Born in Sackville he was a son of the Late Henry and Jean (Hicks) Kay.
Ronald was a 30 year employee with Enterprise Fawcett Foundry, Sackville.
Ronald will be sadly missed by his wife the former Madeline Lewis of Point de Bute, a son Ronald (Judy) of Amherst, 2 daughters, Kathy (Ralph) Goodwin, Port Elgin and Maryann (Robert) Wells, Dorchester, 8 grandchildren, 2 brothers Darrell, Moncton, Ricky, Calgary and 2 sisters, Pat Wilson, Mt. Whatley, NB and Nancy Snow of Newfoundland. He was predeceased by a sister Margaret Jean Harris

The death of Harry P. Fields, age 84, of Murray Corner, occurred at the Moncton City Hospital on Thursday, June 14, 2001.
Born in Murray Corner, he was a son of the Late George and Cora (Walton ) Fields.
A lifelong fisherman, he was a member of the Murray Corner First United Church and the Ukranian Club of Moncton.
Harry will be sadly missed by his wife of 58 years, the former Thelma Zenchyshyn, Murray Corner, 3 sons, Stewart (Betty), Gregory (Brenda), both of Murray Corner and George , Bayfield, a daughter, Lorraine (Merton) Simpson, Murray Corner, 12 grandchildren, Lisa, Michele, Jason, Troy, Beth Ann, Tabatha, Wade, Bruce, Jennifer, Tanya, Aaron and Justin, and 12 great grandchildren, Lloyd, Kyle, Tyler, Spencer, Paige, Jenna, Mackenzie, Conrad, Madison, Alysha, Max and Sarah, 4 brothers, Eric (Roberta), Bernard (Evelyn), both of Murray Corner, Sydney (Loretta) and Lysle (Sadie), both of Bayfield. Predeceased by a sister Marjorie.

Marguerite Annie Allen
June 24, 2001
The death of Marguerite Annie Allen, age 82, of Sackville occurred at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Sunday, June 24, 2001.
Born in Cape Tormentine, she was a daughter of the Late Ray and Amy (Spence) Allen.
An active person throughout her life she was a hairdresser for over 60 years. She received a Good Neighbour Award from the Town of Sackville in 1999.
She was a wonderful mother to her late husband Sterling's children; Rodney (Brenda) Allen of Sackville, Thelma ( Boyd ) Allen of Barrie, Ontario, and Shirley Wilson of Amherst, and a caring grandmother to 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She is also survived by brothers Warren, Bayfield, Boyd (Thelma), Barrie, ON., Neil (Carolyn), Cape Tormentine and Danny, Hampton, NB. She was a special aunt to Pauline, Ann & Pat. She was predeceased by her husband, Sterling on January 12, 2001, a sister Evelyn Briggs and nephew Ron Briggs Jr.
The remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville (364-1300) with visiting hours Monday from 7 to 9 PM. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 26, 2001 at 2 PM, Rev. Stephen McAllister officiating. Burial in the Bayfield Cemetery. If desired, donations may be made to the Bayfield Cemetery or the Sackville Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

Ronald Dean MacGregor
August 26, 1953 - February 3, 2001
The death of Ron MacGregor, age 47 of Dorchester, occurred suddenly at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Saturday, February 3, 2001.
Born in Sackville, he was a son of Robert MacGregor of Fredericton and the late Lorna (Crossman) MacGregor.
He was a member of the 8th Canadian Hussars, C Squadron in Sackville for more than 20 years. He also coached minor baseball in Sackville for several years. He was a member of the Sackville Golf and Country Club and was an avid hunter. He loved working with computers and operated MacGregor's Computer Services. He was an employee with CNR for 22 years.
He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife the former Pauline Spence, of Dorchester, his son Dale (Tanya) of Springhill, 2 daughters Dawn (Brian) of Mississauga and Kerri-Lynn at home, 1 grandson Brandon, his father-in-law Garfield Spence and his wife Betty of Dorchester. Ron will also be sadly missed by Pauline's Brothers, Sisters and their families and his many friends and co-workers. He is also survived by a brother Robert of Ontario, a sister; Beverley of Sackville, and paternal grandparents Ian & Phyllis MacGregor of Sackville.
The remains have been forwarded for cremation. A memorial service will be held at the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St, Sackville, NB (364-1300) on Wednesday, February 7, 2001 at 2 PM, Rev. Jamie Gripton officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Evangeline Marie Gallant
October 21, 1918 - February 10, 2001
The death of Evangeline Marie Gallant, age 82 of Melrose, NB occurred at the Sackville Memorial Hospital, Saturday, February 10, 2001, following a brief illness.
Born in Mann, QC, she was a daughter of the Late Adelard and Angela (Barthe) Wilmot.
Evangeline was a member of the St. Bartholomew's Roman Catholic Church, Melrose.
Evangeline will be sadly missed by 3 sons, Clement (Aline) and Ivon, both of Melrose, Raymond (Noella) of Moncton , 3 daughters, Eileen and Dianne, both of Melrose and Doris (Ken) Johnson, Moncton, a brother Clair (Florina) Wilmot, Riviere de Loup, QC, 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and a special niece, Martha. She was predeceased by her husband, Edmond in 1954, 2 brothers, Raymond and George and 3 sisters, Eva, Brigitte and Georgina.
The remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home, 3 West Main St., Port Elgin (364-1300) with visiting hours Monday from 7 to 9 and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 . The funeral mass will be celebrated at the St. Bartholomew's Roman Catholic Church, Melrose on Wednesday, February 14, 2001 at 11 AM, Rev. Father Daniel Bohan officiating. Burial in the parish Cemetery in the spring. Donations to the St. Bartholomew's Cemetery or a fund of the donor's choice would be appreciated.
