BARKHOUSE, Harley Illsley - 75, Haliburton Place, Windsor, formerly of Stanley, Hants Co., passed away Thursday, November 2, 2006 in Haliburton Place, in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, surrounded by his family. Born in Upper Burlington, he was a son of the late Abner and Mary (Hayes) Barkhouse. Harley worked at Minas Basin Pulp and Power and then for Stephens and Yeaton Ltd. before he retired. He could always be seen around the neighborhood doing a favour for someone. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Harley is survived by his wife of 50 years, the former Francis Grimm; son, Christopher (Marilyn), Stanley; granddaughters, Christina, Scotch Village, and Nicole, Stanley; sisters, Clara Hazel, Scotch Village, and Violet Churchill, Windsor. He was predeceased by sisters, Althea Salter and Ruther Walker; brothers, Earl, Clyde, Lawrence, Morris, Delbert, Willis, Otis and Eldon. Visitation 2-4 p.m. today for family and friends in J. Wilson Allen Funeral Home, Hwy 215, Summerville Hants Co. Funeral service was held Sunday, November 5, in Newport Baptist Church, Scotch Village, Rev. Terry Caldwell officiated, assisted by Rev. CREELMAN, William Aubrey - 90, Enfield, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2006, in Camp Hill Veterans' Memorial Hospital, QEII, Halifax. Born on May 4, 1916, in South Branch, he was a son of the late William and Lottie (Cox) Creelman. He is survived by his long-time companion, Euela Barron, Enfield; daughter, Diane, New York; sister, Merle Taylor, Truro; one granddaughter and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Grace Machon, Bessie Arseneau, and Hilda McKenna; brothers, Roy, Lloyd, Jamie, and Howard. A Royal Canadian Legion Branch 26 tribute service was held on Tuesday, November 7, followed by a funeral service Rev. Larry Harrison officiated. Both services will take place in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. Interment to follow in Hilden Cemetery. In keeping with Aubrey's wishes, there will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, Lung Association of Nova Scotia, Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26 or a charity of choice.

DOYLE, Alexander Peter Sr. "Bibba" - 64, Indian Brook, passed away Friday, October 27, 2006, in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born in Portland, Me., he was a son of the late Louis and Virginia (Sopiel) Tomah. He is survived by wife, Marie (Copage) Doyle; daughters, Sharon (Copage) Johnson and her husband Bernard; Sheila (Doyle) Dorey and her husband Tony; sons, Rufus Copage and wife Laverne; Alexander Doyle Jr.; grandchildren, Eugene Maloney, Mattie Johnson, Virginia Dorey, Anthony Dorey, Kateri Dorey, Kevin Copage, Tammy (Copage) Maloney, and five great-grandchildren, all of Indian Brook; brothers, Dennis Tomah, Allen Tomah, Louis Peter Tomah; sisters, Alice Claire Tomah, Maureen Tomah, all of Maine. He was predeceased by infant sister, Mary Ann Tomah. Visitation was held at his daughter's residence, Indian Brook. A funeral mass was held Tuesday, October 31, in St. Catherine's Roman Catholic Church, Indian Brook, Father Tom Kurudeepan, O.M.I. officiated. Interment will take place in St. Catherine's Roman Catholic Cemetery, Indian Brook. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society. ELLIS, James Maurice
ELLIS, James Maurice - 87, Stewiacke, passed away October 26, 2006, in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro, with his family by his bedside. Born in Wittenburg, he was a son of the late Harris and Florence (Lochart) Ellis. Maurice retired from Canada Post in 1986 and was a deacon in Stewiacke Baptist Church for 17 years, as well as treasurer and trustee for many years. He was a member of the Country Church Choir, an honorary fireman with the Stewiacke Fire Department and served on the East Hants-Colchester Amalgamated School Board. Maurice enjoyed being with friends and family and loved visits from his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Maurice is survived by his wife, Helen (McDonald); sons, Wayne (Debbie), Stewiacke; Robert (JoAnn), Elko, Nev.; daughter, Heather (David), Stewiacke; grandchildren, Gregory (Dana), Angie, Andrea, Ryan (Danica), Terri, and Jimmy; great-grandchildren, Rhett and Sutter will miss their visits with Grampie. He is also survived by brothers, Percy (Iva) Ellis, Bible Hill; Harold Ellis, Truro; Frank (Lois) Ellis, Wittenburg; sister, Hazel (Bob) Dean, Moncton. He was predeceased by daughter, Debbie; brother, Elmer Ellis; sister, Veta Wright. Visitation was held Saturday in Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie. FAULKNER (Ettinger), Lelia Mae
FAULKNER (Ettinger), Lelia Mae - 98, a resident of West Side Villa, Truro, passed away on November 9, 2006, in Colchester Regional Hospital. Born in Hants County, she was a daughter of the late Wilbert and Lilian (Wright) Ettinger. She taught school in Burncoat, Moose Brook and Belnan, and was a long-time resident of Montreal, Que., and Noel. She was a member of Noel United Church and St. Andrew's United Church, Truro, as well as a member of the UCW and IODE. Her interests included needlecraft, knitting, gardening, old time music, bingo and reading. She was predeceased by her husband, Stanley; brothers, Claude and Leroy. She is survived by her sisters, Velma Miller and Adeline O'Brien, both of Truro; son, Stanley and daughter-in-law Eleanor, Brookfield; grandson, Andy, Brentwood; granddaugther, Joanne Hunt (David), Hammonds Plains, and great-grandchildren, Sally and Tom, Truro. Many thanks to special friend Joan Stewart and Dr. Neil Bower. She will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or service at Lelia's request. Private burial will take place at a later date. GILLARD, Eve - 87. We are saddened to announce the death of Eve on Saturday, November 4, 2006, in Calder Health Centre, Burgeo, N.L. She was born in Burgeo, N.L. on December 15, 1918, and through her life lived in North Sydney, Sackville, N.B., Tantallon, Shubenacadie and Windsor. She is survived by sisters, Mable and Jessie in Burgeo, N.L., and devoted friends. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Wilfred; sister, Francis; brothers, David and Lewis. For the past four years she enjoyed the loving care provided by her niece, Edna Warren, in Burgeo, N.L. Arrangements are entrusted to Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie.

GREENE, Grace Eleanor
GREENE, Grace Eleanor - 70, North Noel Road, passed away Sunday, November 5, 2006, in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. She was a daughter of the late Cecil and Violet (McLellan) Wheaton. Born May 29, 1936, in Pembroke, Grace lived her entire married life in North Noel Road. In addition to raising her children, Grace entered the nursing profession and worked in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, Department of Public Health in Shubenacadie, and provided private nursing for a number of years. Grace was very active in community organizations and provided entertainment for seniors. She was an organist at St. Paul's United Church. Grace will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Grace is survived by her daughter, Eleanor (Walter) Roulston, Rawdon; sons, Robert Blair (Andre), Quebec, and Wayne (Sherry), North Noel Road; grandchildren, Lee Roulston, Megan, Erica and Robert Greene; her sisters, Louise, Arlene, Ruby, Janet and Glenda and families; her brothers, Ronnie, Jimmy, Sony, Russell and families; many nieces and nephews; and special thanks to her niece, Kathy, for all her help. She was predeceased by husband, Ralph, and one son in infancy. Cremation has taken place with no visitation by request. A graveside committal service (open to all) was held Wednesday, November 8, at in North Noel Road Cemetery, with a reception to follow in the Green Hall, North Noel Road, Chuck Paterson officiated. HILL (Lorraine), Leta
HILL (Lorraine), Leta - With grace and dignity, Leta passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 8, 2006, at home, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Upper Onslow, she was the second youngest of the family of the late Purley and Clara (Graham) Lorraine. Leta received her education in the one-room school in Upper Onslow, the Colchester County Academy, and graduated from the Provincial Normal College, where she enjoyed attending the 60th reunion of her graduating class during the summer of 2004. She taught school at Brookfield and Central Onslow. Leta lived most of her life in Onslow, except for a period spent in Quebec, when her husband Charlie was employed with the late J.P. Norrie. Following Mr. Norrie's sudden death, they returned to the family farm in Onslow, where they had lived and seen many changes over the past 60 years. Leta was very involved in community life, through school when her family attended and always the Onslow United Church, which was dear to her heart. She was a member of the church, a life member of the United Church Women (Friendship Unit) and worked in all its endeavors to help at home and abroad. Her most recent appointment was to the Archives Committee. Leta enjoyed bridge and was a charter member of the Onslow group for over 40 years. She received much pleasure from attending auctions. She enjoyed traveling and had many interesting trips to various parts of Canada, the United States and to several European countries. She treasured friendships made as a Rotary Ann for over 30 years. First and foremost in Leta's life was her family, home and friends. She is survived by her husband, Charles R. "Charlie"; sons, C. George (Marlene Howard), Onslow; Daniel R., Dartmouth; daughters, E. Lorraine (David R. Moreland, deceased), Toronto; Evelyn A. (William G. Rasberry), Toronto; Susan L. (William E. Ellis), Lantz; grandchildren, C. Todd Hill (Naomi Irons), Saltsprings; Tara L. Hill-Macmillan (Allan) and Tamara L. Hill (Aaron MacLennan), Onslow; David D. Hill Moreland, Moncton; Robin L., Jordan D. and Taylor W. Rasberry, Toronto; Joshua D., Lucas J. and Jediah C. Hill, Alberta; Megan L. and Jason W. Ellis, Lantz; and precious great-grandchildren, C. Noah Hill, Saltsprings; Emma G. and Jillian P. Macmillan, Onslow; brothers, Lloyd G. Lorraine, Bible Hill; Edward F. Lorraine (Shirley Cooke), Upper Onslow; sister, Anne M. Haughn (Quentin), Halifax; sister-in-law, Margaret (Higgins) Lorraine, Truro, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Leta was predeceased by brothers, Hector M. Lorraine, Laurie W. Lorraine; sister, Florence N. Johnson (Lester, deceased); infant son, Nelson Hugh, and son-in-law, David R. Moreland. Visitation was held Saturday, November 11, in Colchester Community Funeral Home. Funeral service was held on Sunday, November 12, in Onslow United Church, Rev. Gordon MacLean officiated. Reception followed the service. If so desired, Leta's wish was to have any donations in her memory go to the Mission and Service Fund of Onslow United Church.

MacNEIL, Roderick A
MacNEIL, Roderick A. - 56, Halifax, formerly of Big Beach, Cape Breton, passed away November 7, 2006, in the New Halifax Infirmary, QEII, Halifax. Born in Sydney, he was a son of the late Michael J. and Lucy (Cameron) MacNeil. For 28 years, he had been an employee of the Provincial Government working in the Department of Finance. In February 2002, he took early retirement, due to ill health. Surviving are brother, James, Big Beach; sister, Cathy (Lee) Gilby, Enfield; niece, Michelle Gilby (Scott Turner), Elmsdale; nephew, Trevor Gilby, Calgary, Alta. We would like to thank the doctors and staff at the QEII, as well as the staff at the Dialysis Unit for their kindness during his illness. Much appreciation goes to Penny Durnford and her staff who treated Rod with such great respect and gave the family so much emotional support and guidance. Special thanks to his many friends from work who visited and kept in touch through his difficult illness. Special thanks to Jolene Laffin who kept everyone updated on Rod's progress for us. We will miss him, but his tremendous pain and suffering is finally over. To his niece, Michelle, who spent so much time with him, be content knowing how much he enjoyed and looked forward to your visits. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Co-operative, Upper Musquodoboit. In keeping with Rod's wishes, no funeral service will be held. MORRELL, Jessie Kay - 72, Brentwood, passed away November 5, 2006, at home. Born in Springside, Colchester Co., she was a daughter of the late Donald Fulton and Jessie (Gibson) (Fulton) Bradley. In 1996, she retired from the Department of Natural Resources after being employed for 22 years as a radio operator. Surviving are her husband, Wesley; daughter, Brenda (Terry) Woodworth, Stewiacke; son, Darryl (Darlene), Brentwood; grandchildren, Teri-Jean, Kristin, Stephen, Brandon, Jessica; brother, Walter (Maureen) LaPierre, Quebec; sisters, Ellen Dallas, Cornwall, Ont.; Carol Fornady, Quebec; special friends, Clem and Mary McNutt, Tanya and Gary Irvine. Visitation was held Monday and funeral was Wednesday, both in Stewiacke Baptist Church, Pastor Aubrey Deslatte officiated. Burial to follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Stewiacke East. MUNROE, Granville Aston
MUNROE, Granville Aston - 87, Dartmouth, passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 31, 2006, in Dartmouth General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born July 13, 1919, in Whitehead, Guysborough Co., he was a son of the late Harvey and Charlotte (Conrad) Munroe. Granville served overseas during the Second World War from 1940-45. He worked as Department Manager of Orderlies and Paramedics at the Victoria General Hospital, and was instrumental in restructuring the areas of training and job descriptions for orderlies and paramedics. Granville is survived by his companion of many years, Violet Saulnier, Dartmouth; daughters, Lee Ann (Bob) Hatcher, Scotch Village; Dr. Fonda Munroe (Norman), Ottawa; grandchildren, Kelly, John, Mark, Catherine; great-grandchildren, Dalton, Robert; sister, Jenny Graves, New Brunswick; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Catherine Edith (MacDonald); many sisters and brothers. Arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth. PHILLIPS (McCabe), Gwendolyn Vera - 81, Hilden, formerly of Stewiacke, passed away in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro, October 31, 2006. Born in Truro, she was a daughter of the late Percy and Maude (Singer) McCabe. She will be sadly missed by her husband, Bert; daughter, Patricia (Lorne) Myles, Toronto; sons, David (Lauren), Truro; Carl (Mattie), Maitland; Paul, Truro; Peter (Jackie), Upper Stewiacke; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by son, Brian, and daughter, Nancy in infancy; three sisters and two brothers. Visitation was held Friday, November 3 with funeral service Saturday, November 4, both in Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie, Rev. Larry Harrison officiated. SCRIVENS, Allan James - 53, Upper Musquodoboit and West Quoddy. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, son, father, grandfather and brother, who passed away on November 8, 2006, surrounded by the comfort of his loving family, in the VG Site, QEII, Halifax. Born in Sheet Harbour, he was a son of Marie (Walsh) Scrivens and the late Cyril Scrivens. Besides his mother, he is survived by his loving wife, the former Donna Erskine; sons, Darryl (Janice), Jason (Anita); Grampa and "Umps" to special angels, Blake, Ethan and Leland; brother, Gary (Shirley); sisters, Rose, Bertha (George), Edna; mother-in-law, Gertie; brothers-in-law, Robert, Micheal, Nelson; sister-in-law, Lisa; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, special friends and neighbours. He was predeceased by his father-in-law, Donald. Allan worked for Nova Scotia Power for 33 years. Allan's love for life included his family, his cottage, lobster fishing, hunting deer and birds, and gardening. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Co-operative, Upper Musquodoboit. Visitation was held on Sunday, November 12 in St. James United Church, Upper Musquodoboit. Funeral mass took place on Monday at 11 a.m. in St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Sheet Harbour, Father Michael Walsh officiated. A reception will follow in Samuel R. Dorothy was a member of Holy Trinity Church and past member of the Stewiacke Board of Trade. She is survived by her children, Fern Quillan (Clarence), Alberta; George Tanner (Charlotte), Brookfield; John Tanner Jr., Stewiacke; Wayne Tanner (Marilyn), Brookfield; Margaret Tanner-Zinck, Truro; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Muriel Wilson (Clarence), Halifax; Grace Deyoung (Donald), Eastern Passage; Joan Barrett (Tommy), Lower Sackville; Connie Christian (Graham), Lower Sackville; Shirley Saunders (James), Eastern Passage; brothers, Buddy Holland, Truro; Fred Holland, Saint John, N.B.; Nelson Bosch, Halifax; John Bosch, Dartmouth. WEIR, Ivan Cornelius
WEIR, Ivan Cornelius - 82, Centre Rawdon, passed away peacefully Sunday, November 5, 2006, in the Windsor Elms Senior Citizens Home, where he had been a resident. Born on July 26, 1924, in Rawdon, he was a son of the late Bertrum and Elizabeth "Bessie" (Page) Weir. Ivan was a devoted member of St. Paul's Anglican Church, where he was a Warden and a member of the vestry for 50 years. Ivan was a farmer and carpenter just prior to his retirement. He will be remembered for his love of music, dancing, the woods, animals and jokes of any kind. Ivan is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, the former Helen Grant; sons, Wayne (Carolyn), Rawdon; Donald (Heather), Falmouth; daughter, Janet Shay (Garth Dunbar), Hantsport; grandchildren, Joseph (Sonia) Weir, Mitchell Weir, Coady Shay, Jared Shay, Bonny (Ricky) Boutilier, Danielle Weir; great-grandchildren, Haley Boutilier and Cple Boutilier; sister, Dianne Maxwell; many nieces and nephews. Ivan was predeceased by brothers, Russell (Laura), Harry (Irma); sisters, Freda (Arthur) Benedict and Verna Anthony. CLAYTON (Gallant), Helen Marie
CLAYTON (Gallant), Helen Marie - 70, Belnan, passed away in the Palliative Care Unit of the V.G. Site, QEII, Halifax, on October 1, 2007. She was a loving wife, mother, daughter and sister. Born in Belnan, she was a daughter of Susan MacDonnell, Belnan, and the late Urban Gallant. Helen graduated from Nova Scotia Normal College and taught for several years in Nova Scotia. She moved to Flagstaff, Ariz., in 1964 where she taught at St. Mary's School for 12 years. She returned to Belnan in 1990 to care for her brother Daniel and sister Judith. Helen was very active in her church community. She sang with the Folk Choir, was a Lay Reader and Eucharistic Minister. Helen loved life and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Surviving her is daughter, Linda (Bob) Murdock, Gilbert, Ariz.; sons, Kevin (Kelle) Clayton, Mesa, Ariz.; David (Lori) Clayton, Flagstaff, Ariz.; granddaughters, Tessa and Tera Murdock, Gilbert, Ariz.; Lindsay and Abbie Clayton, Flagstaff, Ariz.; brothers, Maurice (Patricia), Belnan; Leonard (Beverly), Elmsdale; sister, Judith, at home; mother-in-law, Florence Clayton, Barrie, Ont.; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Leslie Clayton (October 8, 1977); brothers, Leo, Daniel; sisters, Muriel, Frances and Marie. Visitation was held Thursday, October 4 with funeral service Friday, October 5, both in St. Bernard's Roman Catholic Church, Enfield, Father Andrew Rembarczyk presided. Donations may be made to St. Bernard's Roman Catholic Church, 253 Hwy. 2, Enfield, NS B2T 1C9, Capital District Health Authority or the Palliative Care Unit, V.G. Site, QEII, 1278 Tower Rd., Halifax, NS B3H 2Y9.

DIGDON, Gertrude Laura
DIGDON, Gertrude Laura - 75, Truro, passed away October 1, 2007, in The Mira Long Term Care Facility, Truro. Born in Sackville, she was a daughter of the late Percy and Grace (Peverill) Harpell. She is survived by sisters, Nola Peverill, Sackville; Rosa Digdon, Truro; brothers, Arthur, Edward, both of Sackville; Charles, Cranbrook, B.C.; Percy, Urbania; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Chester F. Digdon; brother, William; sisters, Jennie Harpell, Helen Nickerson and Netta Smeltzer. Visitation was held Thursday, October 4, in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. Interment was held Friday, October 5, in Mountain View Cemetery, Wittenburg. Donations in her memory may be made to Colchester Regional Hospital Building Fund or a charity of choice.
