8/20/1920 - 5/6/2006
MAGEE - Francis Sterling 'Frank' passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on May 6, 2006 in Burnaby. He is remembered with much love by his wife, Vicki, to whom he was married for 57 years, his children Susan (David Bellwood), Kelly (Diane) and Lise (Gordon Miller), his sister Nina, his grandchildren, Amy (Rob), Aaron, Georgia, Max and his first great-grandchild, Brandon, born on May 1. Predeceased by parents Eddy and Mabel and his two brothers Bill and Duke. - Born in Kemnay, Manitoba on August 20, 1920, Frank and his family moved to New Westminster when he was three years old where he graduated from Duke of Connaught and enjoyed working as a rink rat at Queen's Park. Frank's work experience was a truly BC one: he made his way to Harrison Mills a few days after completing his matriculation and soon determined that the peace and quiet of the boiler house was a good place to be. He returned to Westminster, soon to head up the Coast onboard various vessels. His life was soon to take a turn as he was bewitched by one of the beautiful Lafleur girls, Vicki, and after a short courtship on the greens at Peace Portal they were married on January 21, 1949. They soon started their family and - after an 8 month job opening the Alcan smelter in Kitimat - Frank packed up the family to live in Mission for a brief stint at Stave Lake Cedar. They returned to the Lower Mainland in 1952 and Frank began working at the Chevron Refinery in North Burnaby from where he retired 30 years later. Retirement was all about travel, golf, garage sales, tinkering in the basement and coffee with the Blackrock Boys on Monday mornings. But mostly Frank's life was about his family and friends. He was the best kind of husband, dad, papa, brother, son, uncle, cousin and friend. The family would like to thank the amazing staff and volunteers of St. Michael's Hospice who were so generous with their hearts and hugs. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Michael's Hospice at 7451 Sussex Avenue, Burnaby, BC V5J 5C2. A celebration of Frank's life will be held at the Burnaby Mountain Golf Course (7600 Halifax) from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Saturday, May 13.
