Stewart Andrew MacRae
Stewart MacRae died peacefully, with his family by his side, at the Oromocto Public Hospital on Saturday, September 14th, 2002 at the age of 51. Born in Black River, NS he was the son of John MacRae and the late Gladys MacRae.
Survived by his father, John of Geary, NB; sons, Don (Tina) of Carleton Place, ON and Jason (Laurie Vincent) of Smiths Falls, ON; brothers, Robert (Pam) of Fredericton, NB, Carl of Geary, NB and Laurel Buchanan (Linda) of Hamilton, ON; sister, Brenda Campbell (David) of Geary, NB; grandchildren, Gage and Lexi MacRae of Carleton Place, ON and Christopher and Sarah Vincent of Smiths Falls, ON and special friends, Ellen Bellefountaine and Ronald Trundle both of Lincoln, NB.
Stewart is predeceased by his mother, Gladys.
Visitation will be held at Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home on Monday, September 16th, 2002 from 7-9 pm and on Tuesday, September 17th, 2002 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Cape Breton, NS. For those who wish, donations made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to a charity of the donor s choice, would be appreciated.

Dr. Richard (Dick) Geren, O.C. (Order of Canada)
Richard (Dick) Geren, O.C. on Tuesday Sept 3, 2002 in his 85th year at the Oromocto Public Hospital. After graduating from Ohio State University in geology, Dick became involved in mining in the Timmins area of Ontario. He served in the RCAF during WWII. After the war, he participated in the early days of mineral exploration in northern Quebec and Labrador and was involved in the development of the iron ore industry in the area.
Dr. Geren was the Manager of the Iron Ore Company of Canada s first major mining development in the Schefferville Quebec area. He then worked as a consultant for various mining operations worldwide. In 1974, he returned to the Iron Ore Company of Canada as Executive Vice President. Dick was responsible for all mining operations in Schefferville, Sept Iles, Quebec, and Labrador and Newfoundland, including the Quebec North Shore and Labrador Railroad and the Hollinger Ungava Air transport operations.
After retiring to Oromocto N.B. he co-authored Cain s Legacy , the history of development and building of the Iron Ore Company of Canada. He was a recipient and officer of the Order of Canada and received many other awards and honorary degrees. He was inducted into the Mining Hall of Fame in 2001.
Dick is survived by his wife of 60 years Grace (n e Yuill), son Richard James and wife Sandy (Alexis) of Sept Iles, daughter Wendy Lee of Toronto, grandson Christopher of Ottawa, ON, granddaughter Jennifer of Halifax NS, sister Mildred Seybold of Maryland, sister Helen Pierce of North Carolina and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at the Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home, 108 Winnebago Street, Oromocto on Friday, September 6 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral service will take place in the Oromocto Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, September 7 at 10:00 am with Rev. Margie Patterson officiating. Interment will take place in the Burton Cemetery at a later date.

Arnold George Robert Fleiger
The death of Arnold George Robert Fleiger occurred at the Oromocto Public Hospital on Tuesday, April 9th, 2002. Born in Chatham, NB, the son of the late Harold and Lillian (Whelan) Fleiger, husband of the late Patricia Fleiger.
Arnold enlisted in the military in Chatham in 1945 and served in WWII and Korea before retiring in 1978. He was a member of the Black Watch, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 93, the Knights of Columbus, and Oromocto Lions Club. He was in the Canadian Boxing Hall of Fame, as well as The Walls of Fame in Chatham and Oromocto and a recipient of the Francis Peabody Award.
Survived by three sons, Michael and Gary of Waasis, and Paul (Patricia) of Lincoln NB; one daughter, Rachel Fleiger of Fredericton; ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Frank (Rose), Colin (Alice) and Harold (Carol) Fleiger all of Chatham, NB.
Predeceased by his parents, his wife Patricia and one brother Allison Fleiger.
Visitation will take place at the Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 10th, from 7-9 PM and Thursday, April 11th, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #93 will hold a tribute service at the funeral home on Thursday evening at 7:00 PM. The funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Vincent de Paul Church on Friday, April 12th, at 11:00 AM. Rev. Don Savoie will officiate. In lieu of flowers donations made to New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foundation or charity of the donor s choice would be appreciated.

Perry James Sabattis
The death of Perry James Sabattis of Oromocto First Nation died suddenly at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Sunday, December 14th, 2003. Born in Fredericton, NB, he was the son of Jacqueline Sabattis, and Jervais Mallet; soul mate of Tashia Sacobie.
Survived by his parents; step mother Cathy; two children, Dustin and Chandler at home; two sisters, Jessie Lynn Sabattis and Shelby Lynn Polchies; one brother, John Polchies; godparents, Wilfred Sabattis and Darlene Buchanan; one chosen sister, and brother, Virginia Sabattis and D.J. Verner; two step sisters, Chantel Polchies and Amanda Foster ; one step brother, Tony Foster ; aunts, Rose Anne (Harold) and Cathy; uncles, Wilfred (Cynthia), Robert (Beverley), Wallace, Floyd, Gordon, Dave uncle by marriage; great aunts and great uncles of Kingsclear, NB; several nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his grandparents, Ambrose and Doreen Sabattis; three uncles.
Visitation will be held at the home on 14 Moccasin Lane Apt #4 on Thursday and Friday, December 18th, & 19th. The funeral service will be held St Vincent de Paul Catholic Church on Saturday, December 20th, 2003 at 11:00 am. Rev. Ken Weir will officiate. Interment will be in the adjoining Cemetery. George Cyril Sark
The death of George Cyril Sark of Oromocto First Nation died suddenly on Sunday, December 14th, 2003. Born in Oromocto, NB, he was the son of Gerald and Valerie (Nash) Sark; and soul mate of Karen Clifford.
Survived by his parents; soul mate, Karen; three children Joey Sark, Madison Sark and Jessica Scott; one sister, Anne Louise; one brother, Phillip (Kim) and several aunts and uncles.
Predeceased by one brother, Bubba.
Visitation will be held at Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 16th, and Wednesday December 17th, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Gladys Ethelyn VanBuskirk
The death of Gladys Ethelyn VanBuskirk occurred at White Rapids Manor, Fredericton Junction on Wednesday, December 10th, 2003. Born in Lower Jemseg, April 17th, 1902, she was the daughter of the late John and Alida (Williams) VanBuskirk . Gladys was a School Teacher by profession. She is survived by a niece, Shirley Marr (Cedric) of Fredericton and special friend Barbara Cruickshank of Oromocto. She was predeceased by her father and mother, two sisters, Garda and Mabel, and one brother, Caswell.
There will be no visitation by request. The funeral service will be held at St. James Anglican Church, Lower Jemseg on Saturday, December 13th, 2003 at 2:00 PM. Rev. Brenda McKnight will officiate. Interment will take place in St. James Anglican Church Cemetery. For those who wish, memorial tributes made to St. James Anglican Church or to the charity of the donor s choice would be appreciated. Grace Mildred Swallow
The death of Grace Mildred Swallow of Oromocto, NB, occurred at home on Wednesday, December 10th, 2003. Born in Middleboro, NS, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Mable (Seaman) Montrose, the wife of Kenneth Swallow.
Survived by her husband, Kenneth, one daughter, Gloria Dobson of Oromocto; one grandson, Larry Dobson; three great-grandchildren, Matthew Fugard, Dana and Taylor Dobson; one brother, Donald Montrose (Joan) of Batawa, ON.
Predeceased by her parents, one grandson, Michael Dobson, three brothers, Ernest, Percy and Truman
There will be no visitation or service by request. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Wallace River, NS at a later date. Frederick Earl Christian Ted Hudson
Frederick E. C. Hudson Ted of Geary, NB died peacefully at his home on Thursday, December 4th, 2003. Born November 18th, 1931 in Grand Falls, NB he was the son of the late John and Doris (Sloat) Hudson and husband of Margaret Ann (Langevin) Hudson.
Ted served in the Canadian Armed Forces from 1949 1974 and retired as a MWO in the PERI trade. He later worked as the administrator for the UNB Student Union. He was also a researcher for the NB Drug and Alcohol Commission.
He was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Parish in which he served in many capacities. He was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a lifetime member of the Gage Golf Club, and past Governor.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret; six sons, Doug (Johanne), Patrick (Shih Shu), Monty (Gina), Ricky, Larry, Billy (Maiko) and one daughter, Kathy McPherson (Dave); twelve grandchildren, Issac, Julia, Chris, Danielle, Aaron, Teddy, Annie, Justin, Jen , Randi, William, Brooklyn and his faithful companion Barty the dog; brothers and sisters, Jack (Eunice), Eleanor Pirie, Ralph (Bette), Gene (Cheryl), Gerald (Shirley), Margaret MacAllister (Arnold), Dorothy Reimer (Bruce) and Douglas (Maxine).
He was predeceased by his parents, John and Doris and one son, Bob.
Visitation will be held at the Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home on Saturday, December 6th, 2003 from 7-9 pm and Sunday, December 7th, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The St. Vincent de Paul Knights of Columbus will hold a tribute service on Sunday evening at 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Monday, December 8th, 2003 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Interment will be held in the adjoining church Cemetery. For those who wish, memorial tributes made to the Canadian Cancer Society or St. Vincent de Paul Building Fund would be appreciated by the family.

Joseph Jason Hayes
Joe Hayes passed away December 1, 2003 at the Oromocto Public Hospital.
Born in Shigawake, Qu bec, he was the son of the late Henrietta (Carson) and Almond Hayes.
He was predeceased by his wife Dorothy Hayes (Banks).
Joseph Hayes was a retired member of the Canadian Armed Forces and served in the Royal Regiment of the Canadian Artillery from 1954-1976. Joe worked hard his entire life and will be fondly remember for his kind and gentle spirit.
He is survived by two brothers; Elton Hayes and Lorne Hayes, his seven children; Carla Ross, Diane Campbell, Jason Hayes, Janice MacDougall, John Hayes, Shirley Carnahan and Tammy Bilodeau, thirteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and countless friends.
Resting at Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home, 108 Winnebago Street with visitation on Thursday, December 4th, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm with a tribute service being held by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #93 on Thursday at 7:00 pm. A memorial service will take place on Friday, December 5th, 2003 at 2:00 pm at Christ Church Cathedral, corner of Brunswick and Church Street, Fredericton, NB. Dean Keith Joyce officiating. A reception will follow at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #93 on the Restigouche Road in Oromocto. Interment will be held in Shigawake, Quebec on Sunday, December 7th, 2003.
Donations are requested in lieu of flowers and the family has suggested donations be made to the Oromocto Public Hospital, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the New Brunswick Lung Association or the Canadian Cancer Society.

Margaret Arline Bennett
The death of Margaret Arline Bennett of Oromocto, NB, occurred at the Halifax Infirmary, Halifax, NS on Monday, December 1st, 2003. Born in Middleton, NS, she was the daughter of Leo and the late Geraldine (Moore) Seaman, and the wife of Roy Bennett.
Survived by her husband Roy; one daughter, Tracy Roy (Mike) of Geary, NB; two grandchildren, Emily and Tristen Roy; three brothers, Roy Northrup (Joan) of Windsor, ON, Jack (Chris) Seaman of Coleharbour, NS and Jerry Seaman (Wendy) of Westfield, NB; three sisters, Patricia Banks of Grand Bay Westfield, Jane Mahar of Grand Bay Westfield, and Janet Wells (Alan) of Grand Bay, Westfield.
Predeceased by her mother Geraldine, two daughters, Charlene and Brandi.
Visitation will be held at the Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home on Thursday, December 4th, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A memorial service will be held at the Oromocto Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, December 5th, 2003 at 2:00 pm. Rev. Greg Sparkes will officiate. Interment will be in the Burton Cemetery. Arthur Delbert McNutt
The death of Arthur Delbert McNutt of Upper Gagetown, NB, occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Saturday, November 29th, 2003. Born in Kentville, NS, he was the son of the late Thomas and Marjorie (Baird) McNutt, the husband of the late Erika (Mau) McNutt.
Survived by two sons, Delbert and Donald McNutt of Upper Gagetown, NB; one daughter, Erika Ann McNee (Christopher) of Lakeville Corner, NB, two brothers, Murray McNutt of Guelph, ON, and Bligh McNutt of Kentville, NS, two sisters, Phyllis Early of Guelph, ON and Harriett Kindness of Sault Saint Marie, ON.
Predeceased by his parents, wife Erika and brothers and sisters.
There will be no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held at Oromocto Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2003 at 2:00 pm. Rev. Richard Durrett will officiate. L. Doreen (MacDonald) Hay
The death of L. Doreen Hay, (MacDonald) of Froude, Sask occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Saturday, November 29th, 2003. She was the daughter of the late Victoria Pearson and Neil MacDonald of Sask.
Devoted wife of Norm (NB), cherished mother of Chris (NB) and Gerri and Rich Brennan of On; the loving grandmother of Jen Williams and Raisa Brennan.
She was the youngest sister of Archie (deceased, and Melvina of Sask, Ken (deceased) and Wilma of BC, Gib (deceased) and Belle (deceased) of BC, Opal and Buzz Keturkis (deceased) and Slim Wilks (deceased) of Sask, Minerva (deceased) and Bill Bossenberry (deceased) of Sask, Bertha and Jim (deceased) Rose of Sask, and Loll and Chuck (deceased) Dammann of Sask; beloved aunt of twenty nieces and nephews; sister in law of Georgina (deceased) of Michigan, Gord and Marg of On, and Marg of On and seven nieces and nephew.
Norm was Royal Canadian Navy and married life began in British Columbia, then on to Nova Scotia, to Ontario and finally New Brunswick. Upon retirement Doreen was able to spend more time on family, friends, and her love of nature, gardening and her dogs.

Margaret (Lloyd) Merrett
The death of Margaret (Lloyd) Merrett of French Lake, NB occurred on Tuesday, November 25, 2003 at her residence. Born in Pennfield, NB, she was the daughter of the late Vernon and Mable (Campbell) Lloyd and wife of Alan Merrett.
Survived by her husband, Alan; four sons, William (Roxanne) French Lake, NB, Michael (Bonnie) of Geary, NB, Richard (Sandy) of Tracy, NB and Steven (Sharon) Justason of Moncton, NB; five daughters, Alice Harnish, Susan (Ralph) MacDonald both of French Lake, NB, Wanda (Jean-Guy) Ringuette, Linda (Donald) Caissie both of French Lake, NB and Karen (Paul) DeWolfe of Harvey, NB, twenty four grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her parents, daughter Sarina, two sisters, Mary and Agnes and one son-in-law, Howard.

Patrick Leo Nash
The death of Patrick Leo Nash of Burton, NB, occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Tuesday, November 18th, 2003. Born in Gagetown, NB, he was the son of the late Thomas and Madeline (Sacobie) Nash, the husband of Linda (Arsenault) Nash.
Survived by his wife Linda, two sons, Jason (Lori) Nash and Adam Nash; three grandchildren, Courtney, Hayden and Olivia; three brothers, Thomas, Paul and Joseph; six sisters, Loretta Rodgerson, Roberta Gray, Mariette Davenport, Linda Hogan, Theresa McFarlane and Anne Garrett. Several nieces and nephews
Visitation will be held at Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 19th, and Thursday, November 20th, from 2-4 and 7-9. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Oromocto, NB on Friday, November 21st, 2003 at 11:00 am. Rev. Ken Weir as Celebrant. John Russell Trebble
John Russell Trebble, son of the late Gertrude (Chapman) and Hartley Trebble was born February 16th, 1946 in Saint John, NB and passed away suddenly at his home on the Washademoak Lake September 19th, 2003.
He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Janie, his sons, Todd (Alexis) and Neil (Cindy) and grandchildren Bailey, Noah, Rebecca and baby Joel. He will also be sadly missed by his sisters, Clara May (Eddie) Young and Lila MacNeil along with his very close extended family and friends who loved him dearly.
John, being a Gold Seal member of the Canadian Construction Association worked for many years for W.J. Beairsto and recently retired from MC Ventilation which he was a co-owner with his close friends Mark Coleman and Sterling MacNamara. In his retirement John fulfilled his passionate dream of establishing a beautiful vineyard. John was also very active in his community and a member of the Jemseg Baptist Church.
Visitation will be held at the Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home on Monday, September 22nd, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held at the Jemseg Baptist Church on Tuesday, September 23rd, 2003 at 3:30 pm. Rev. Ted Newell will officiate. Sarah Ellen (Mullin) McKeen
The death of Sarah E. (Mullin) McKeen occurred at the Oromocto Public Hospital on Wednesday, September 17th, 2003. Born in Newcastle, NB, she was the daughter of the late Lyman and Viola (Matchett) Mullin and wife of the late William McKeen.
Sarah dearly loved her many friends and looked forward to all their visits. Besides her friends, she is also survived by nieces, Vivian Sturgeon (Alonzo) of Upper Derby, NB, Ellen Miller (George) of Kitchener, ON and Evelyn Smith (Earle) of Saint John, NB; nephew, Keith Davidson (Kathy) of Fredericton, NB and several grand nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her husband, William; son, David and sisters, Ruby, Gwen and Iva.
Visitation will be held at Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home on Friday, September 19th, 2003 from 7-9 pm. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 20th, 2003 at 11:00 am at the Oromocto Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Margie Patterson officiating. A reception will be held at the funeral home after the service. Interment will take place in the Miramichi Cemetery at 3:30 pm on Saturday, September 20th, 2003. Marion Charlotte Sypher
The death of Marion Charlotte Sypher, formerly of Oromocto, NB occurred on Tuesday, September 16th, 2003 at Reta s Retreat, Burton, NB.
Born in Fredericton, NB she was the daughter of the late Clem and Eva (Blizzard) Toner and wife of the late George Sypher. Marion was a member of St. John s Anglican Church, Oromocto.
She will be sadly missed by her two daughters, Shirley Gillis (Earle) of Oromocto, NB, and Barbara Forbes of Fredericton, two grandchildren, John Gillis (Cecile) of Rocky Mountian House AB, Joanne Davidson (John) of Oromocto, NB, and several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, two sisters, Muriel McDonough of Portland, Maine, Frances Miller (Gerry) of Chilliwack, BC, three brothers, Clement Toner (Bernice) of Winnipeg, MB, William Toner (Janet) of Kenora, ON, and Peter Toner of Saint John, NB and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, three sisters, Stella McGinn, Phyllis Currie, and Leona LeConte and stepmother, Frances (Parks) Toner.

Cecil William Damery
July 1, 1939 - September 14, 2003
Cecil William Damery passed away at the Oromocto Public Hospital on Sunday, September 14th, 2003 following a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 64 years. Born on July 1st, 1939 in Hunters Home, Canaan, NB. He was the son of the late Thomas and Helena (Black) Damery.
Cecil served with the Canadian Forces in Petawawa, Germany and Gagetown and retired from the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps in 1987 after twenty-five years of service. He was a member of the Canaan Rivervalley Seniors Group and the RCD Association. His favorite past time was working on his stamp collection, working in the garden, hunting with Clevie, going to the market, and Saturday morning breakfasts with Mel and Dwight, and above all else his two grandchildren Karissa and Dokata were closest to his heart.
Survived by his wife Betty, and their two sons, Stephen of Petawawa, Ontario and Mark of Lincoln, NB; two grandchildren, Karissa and Dakota, one sister, Bernita (Malcolm) Harris of Gananoque, Ontario; his aunt and uncle, Hazel and Clevie Kierstead, many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 16th, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 17th, at 1:00 pm at the Oromocto Funeral Home Chapel. A committal service will take place at Canaan Forks Cemetery followed by a time of fellowship with the family at the Canaan Community Hall in Cherryvale. For those who wish, memorial tributes made to the Oromocto Public Hospital Palliative Care would be appreciated by the family.

Garry Scott 'Tommy' Thompson
Garry Scott Tommy Thompson of Oromocto, NB died peacefully at Oromocto Public Hospital on September 13th, 2003 at the age of 66.
Tommy is survived by two daughters, Joan Seefried (Brad) of Nanaimo, BC and Elizabeth Petrash (Tim) of Kingston, ON and two sons, John of Greenland and Thomas (Sherri) of Regina, SK. Tommy is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Krista Seefried, Kathleen Petrash and Morgan, Rachael, Jennifer, Christine and Scott Thompson.
Tommy is predeceased by his mother, Joan (Thompson) DesRosier, his wife, Helena Audrey (Bond) Thompson and sister, Leslie (DesRosier) Lefebvre.
Tommy was a proud member of the Black Watch Regiment from his joining in 1955 until the Regiment was disbanded. His 26 year military career took him to New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario and Alberta as well as Germany, Cypress, Egypt and Syria. Tommy has been a resident of Oromocto for the past 40 years where he was extremely active within the town, having run in municipal elections for both mayor and councillor. Many groups within the town were fortunate enough to have Tommy as a member. He was a member of the Oromocto Royal Canadian Legion Branch #93; the Rotary Club of Oromocto where he was presented with the Paul Harris Fellowship; the Oromocto Chamber of Commerce; and Past President of the Oromocto S.P.C.A. Other accomplishments of Tommy s include: owner of Thompson s Taxi, manager of the Grenade Club and assistant manager of the Homestead, commentator on Channel 10 with An Evening With Tom , a coach of minor hockey and a manager of pee wee softball. Due to his weekly visits to the patients at Oromocto Hospital on behalf of the Rotary Club of Oromocto, Tommy was affectionately known as The Banana Man. Patients eagerly looked forward to his visit and their banana. Many seniors other than those who met him at the hospital are indebted to him for his many kindnesses.
Relatives and friends are invited to the Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home on Thursday, September 18th, 2003 from 7-9 pm with a Black Watch Tribute being held at 7:00 pm. A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 19th, 2003 at 2:00 pm at the Oromocto United Church. Rev. Robert Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the Burton Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited both to the Interment and the reception, which will follow at the Oromocto United Church Hall. In lieu of flowers, for those who wish to make a donation in memory of Tommy, the family suggests donations may be made to the Oromocto Public Hospital Foundation, the NB Alzheimer s Society or the charity of the donor s choice.
