Velma Douglas
Mrs. Velma Douglas of Regina, formerly of the Ituna district; widow of Jack Douglas passed away on Monday, June 2, 2003 at Pioneer Village in Regina. She was 86 years of age. Velma Douglas was born October 27, 1916 in the Ituna district, a daughter of Roy and Margaret (nee Kennedy) Mason. She received her education at Beaverside School. On October 30, 1936 Velma was united in marriage to Jack Douglas. The couple lived in the Ituna district until 1949 when they moved to Regina. In 1996 Velma became a resident of Pioneer Village. She will be remembered for her love of gardening and cooking, but most of all for her love of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Predeceased by her parents; husband Jack in 1962; brothers Donald Mason in 1981 and Robert Mason in 2000; Velma is survived by a son Donald (Brenda) of Comox, BC; a daughter Isobel (Clifford) Cameron of Kamsack; grandchildren, Scott, Brad, Paul and Jennifer (Douglas) and Linda and Neil (Cameron); great grandchildren Braden, Trentin and Jesse (Douglas) and Shavry (Cameron); a brother Sandy Mason of Toronto; two sisters, Helen Warren of Regina and Nita Kruzeniski of Ituna.
The funeral service was held on Thursday, June 5, 2003 at the Chapel of Pioneer Village in Regina with Rev. Howard Hansen of the United Church of Canada officiating. The pianist, Jean MacLean led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, 'All The Way My Saviou Leads Me' and 'In The Sweet By and By'. Reflections of Velma's Life were conveyed by nephew, Ron Kruzeniski. The Interment followed in the Ituna Town Cemetery with Velma's nieces and nephews, Bonnie Murray, Roberta Hazen, Kim Southgate, Brian Murray, Roy Mason and Grant Kruzeniski serving as the casket bearers. Funeral arrangements were in care of Bailey's Funeral Home.

Steve Dozorec
Mr. Steve Dozorec of Yorkton, formerly of the Stornoway - Calder district entered eternal rest on Friday, March 22, 2002 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre at the age of 85 years. Stephen Dozorec was born on January 10, 1917 to Metro and Nettie (nee Zelaney) in the Stornoway district, the eldest of four children. He attended McGillvery School and later Kamsack. His father died when Steve was 10 years old leaving him to help his mother with the family farm. Later he obtained employment at a Massey-Harris dealership in Kamsack as a mechanic. In 1940 he purchased the first rubber tired tractor in the Kamsack area. To him this was a giant step forward in time. On August 6, 1944 Steve was united in marriage to Anne Yasinsky and together raised two sons, Henry and James. In 1949 he purchased his own land in the Calder district and continued farming until ill health forced him to give up in 1958 when he moved the family into Yorkton and sought lighter less demanding work. He was employed at Hluchanek's Turkey Farms and later the City of Yorkton. He also worked at the Metropolitan Store and for the last nine years with Kirsch Construction as a truck driver. In his younger years he served as trustee at Golden Jubilee School in the Calder district. While living in Yorkton, Steve was a parishioner of St. Mary's Church, a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Brotherhood and of the New Horizons. In 1983 he moved to the West Coast and returned back to Yorkton in 1987. Following the death of his wife he remarried to Helen Velechka in 1989 and moved to Invermay. This marriage was short-lived when Helen passed away nine months later. He then returned to Yorkton where he remained until his passing. Steve was very mechanically inclined repairing and tinkering with engines. In his retirement he took up gardening and was very proud of the high production on his small plot. He was very proud of his grandchildren and later his great-grandchildren. He was also proud of his son's accomplishments and careers; Henry as an engineering technician and farmer and James as a contractor. He was even prouder to see his grandchildren establish their careers in the immediate area.
He leaves to cherish his memory and celebrate his life, two sons Henry (Lorraine) of Wroxton and James of Regina; 4 grandchildren, Bryan (Valerie) of Melville, Dr. Deanna (Terry) Johnson of Hudson Bay, Susan (Alan) Labossiere of Yorkton and Ggregory (Tammy) of Regina; 9 great grandchildren, Christine, David, Aaron, Andrew, Jamie, Justin, Brooke, Shelby and Jesse; 2 great step grandchildren Kim (Chad) and Mandy; a great great stepchild Cloe; brother John (Adella) of Yorkton; a sister Ann Wlasichuk of Kamsack and a special friend John. Besides his wives, Anne in 1987 and Helen in 1990. Steve was predeceased by his father Metro (1927), mother Anastasia (1984), sister Katie Ogrodnick, brother-in-law Mike Ogrodnick and brother-in-law Peter Wlasichuk.
Prayer services were held on Tuesday, March 26, 2002 at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton. Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Wednesday, March 27, 2002 at St. Mary's Church with Very Rev. Dmytro Dnistrian, C.Ss.R. as the Celebrant. The reponses were led by St. Mary's Funeral Choir. The epistle reader was Deanna Johnson and the cross bearer was John Dozorec. The Interment followed at St. Vladimir & Olga Cemetery, Wroxton with Brian Dozorec, Greg Dozorec, Terry Johnson, Allan Labossiere, David Labossiere and John Samples serving as the casket bearers. Funeral arrangements were in care of Bailey's Funeral Home.

Bruce Dramnitzki
Mr. Bruce Dramnitzki, beloved husband of Debbie (nee Lawrance) of Yorkton passed away on December 18, 2001 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre after an almost two year battle with cancer. Bruce was born June 7, 1949 to Sam and Olga (Kish) Dramnitzki. At the age of eight years, he moved from the farm to Yorkton. As a member of the Yorkton Air Cadets, he obtained his pilot's wings on a flying scholarship in 1966. The following year he graduated from the Yorkton Regional High School. He thoroughly enjoyed his thirty-three year career in auto parts sales working for both Auto Electric Service and York Auto in Estevan and in Yorkton. Many of his customers became life-long friends. Bruce was a member of the Yorkton ACT/UCT Club for over twenty-five years, serving two terms as their president. While he and his family lived in Estevan he was a director on the Estevan Minor Hockey executive and baseball coach for five years. In Yorkton, he served on the Westview United Church Finance and Needs Assessment Committees. Curling, wine making, camping, gardening, reading, playing cards, and visiting with friends and family were his favourite activities. He was a loving husband and a supportive father who spent many hours watching and helping his children with their endeavours- whether it be school or Air Cadet activities, band concerts, hockey, baseball, basketball, or volleyball games, dance or musical recitals.
He was predeceased by his father, Samuel in September of 1989. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Debbie; his three children, Michael, Ryan, and Erin; his mother Olga Dramnitzki, all of Yorkton; two sisters, Judy (John) Carpenter and girls Jennifer (Ken) and Jaime (Dale) of Winnipeg; and Lenore (Doug) Bailey and children Megan and Allan of Eatonia. Bruce held a special place in the hearts of Debbie's family: father-in-law and mother-in-law Cy and Phyllis Lawrance; his brothers-in-law Dwight (Debi); Neil (Janet); Murray (Crystal) and sister-in-law Shelley (David) Trueman and all their families.
A Service of Comfort for family and friends was held on Friday evening, December 21, 2001 from the Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home. The Funeral Service was held on Saturday December 22, 2001 from Westview United Church in Yorkton with Rev. Faye Greer officiating. Bruce's sister Lenore gave a tribute and words of remembrance. The organist Laurene Jemieff and members of the church choir led the congregation in the singing of the hymns 'In The Bulb There Is A Flower', 'Those Hearts That We Have Treasured' and 'On Eagle's Wings'. The Interment took place in the family plot in the Garden of Crucifixion at the Yorkton Memorial Gardens with John Carpenter, Cyril Churko, Nestor Frykas, Brian Lake, Neil Lawrance and Leo Saccary serving as the casketbearers. Arrangements were entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home.

Eric Draper
Mr. Eric Draper, beloved husband of Merle Draper of Yorkton, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 13, 2003 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. He was 84 years of age. Eric Bradley Draper was born on October 8, 1918 on the family farm near Yorkton; a son of Frank & Francis (nee Bradley) Draper. Eric helped on the family farm until he joined the 17th Field Battery, Royal Canadian Artillery, 5th Division. Eric sailed to England after training and served in Italy before being deployed to France, Belgium, Holland and into Germany. Following his dis-charge, he returned home. On October 8, 1946 he was united in marriage to Merle Worden at Melville. The couple purchased land through the V.L.A. in the Fonehill district, where they farmed for the next 28 years. As Eric's health began to slowly decline, he retired from farming and began working as a caretaker and commissionaire for the next 16 years. The couple lived at Esterhazy for three years, but as Eric's health further declined, moved back to Yorkton, where they had since resided. Eric was a Saskatchewan Wheat Pool member all his life, and had served as Secretary-Treasurer and chairman of the local wheat pool committee in the Fonehill district. He also belonged to the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation and the Royal Canadian Legion. Eric always took excellent care of his horses and cattle, he was a lover of animals of any kind. He enjoyed hockey, baseball, playing cards and doing puzzles with his grandchildren. When health permitted, Eric and Merle also enjoyed travelling with Hub and Isabel Peterson. Eric and Merle enjoyed 56 wonderful years together and were blessed with a son and four daughters. Eric passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 13, 2003 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. He was 84 years of age.
Predeceased by his parents, a brother Dan, and a great grandson, Eric Bradley Andrusiek. He leaves to mourn his passing and to cherish his memory, his beloved wife Merle; a son, Bradley (Bernadette) Draper of Springside and their family, Rashelle (Darryl) Andrusiek of Springside and Barton (Chantelle) Draper of Calgary; Gaile (David) Reddekopp of Saskatoon and their family, Jean Giesbrecht of Calgary and Bernice (John) Harder of Irricana, AB; Marie (Les) Peterson of Kelowna and their family, Deanna Gordon of Saskatoon, Tina (Scott) Bruce of Kelowna and William (Chrissy) Hartridge of Winnipeg; Glenda (Cliff) Chutskoff of Virden MB, and their family Carly (Stephan) Bunka of Saskatoon and Kristina Chutskoff of Winnipeg; Bonnie (David) Moar of Winnipeg and their family, Tyler and Chad; nine great grandchildren, Tahnee & Alexa Harder, Graceanne & Jakob Bruce, Luke Andrusiek, Jacob Draper, and Erika, Kristen and Amber Gordon; as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, April 17, 2003 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre. Rev. Richard Gibson of the Church of the Nazarene officiated. Gaile Reddekopp gave the eulogy, and granddaughters Carly Bunka and Krissy Chutskoff gave a tribute. The organist, Kathleen Gibson led the congregation in the singing of the hymns 'Rock of Ages' and 'What A Friend We Have in Jesus'. Soloist, Doreen Smith sang 'Sweet Hour of Prayer'. The Interment followed in the Garden of Memories with grandson Barton Draper as the urnbearer. Arrangements were entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home.

Regina Drobot (Chicilo)
DROBOT - Regina Drobot (Chicilo), aged 64 years, passed away at Yorkton on Monday, July 3, 2006 after a long brave battle with cancer. Born on February 7, 1942 in Canora; the youngest of eight children born to Joseph and Anne Chicilo. After attending school in Buchanan and Yorkton, she moved to Winnipeg where she attended the Marvel Beauty School. Regina lived in Winnipeg for some time, where she operated a hair salon until moving back to Canora in 1967. In 1968 she was united in marriage to George Drobot, they were blessed with a son Dwayne, born in 1972. After her husband's death in 1973, she resided in Yorkton, working in the retail and restaurant industries. Her love of gardening and cooking were evident throughout her life, as she enjoyed both and excelled at both.
She leaves to mourn her passing her son Dwayne; a brother Leo (Vivian) Chicilo; sisters Stephanie (Clarence) Dolney, and Helen Chicilo; a sister-in-law Doreen Chicilo as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Regina was predeceased by her husband George Drobot, parents Joseph and Anne Chicilo, brothers Michael and Tony (Caroline) Chicilo, and by sisters Rose (Joseph) Roberts and Mary Chicilo. Prayers were held on Sunday evening, July 9, 2006 from St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton. The Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Monday, July 10, 2006 from St. Mary's Church with Rev. Father Methodius Kushko C.Ss.R as celebrant. Cantors, Ed Pindus and Colette Karapita, assisted by members of St. Mary's Parish Choir, led in the singing of the responses. The crossbearer was Martin Chicilo. Members of the UCWL formed an honour guard, Gwen Bilyk was the flagbearer, candllebearers were Hope Kreklewetz, Edna Mazer, Olga Sakundiak and Vicky Signarowski. Casketbearers were Chad and James Chicilo, Neal and Gerald Dolney, Joseph Sokulski and Peco Chorney. The Interment will take place in the Canora Cemetery.
Arrangements were entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home.

John Dubiel
Mr. John Frank Dubiel of Yorkton, Sask, died peacefully on Thursday, May 3, 2001 at the Anderson Lodge with his sister Julia and niece Adeline at his bedside. He was 90 years of age. John was born on March 4, 1911 in the Rockdale district, son of Frank and Katie (nee Zulyniak) Dubiel. John received his education at Maxwelton School. Together with his brother Claudie, they formed a farming partnership which they continued until John moved off the family farm. In 1966 John moved to Yorkton to be with his father and sister Nellie. John continued to reside in their home until January 16, 2001 when he became a resident of the Anderson Lodge. John attended the Beaverdale Church and upon moving to Yorkton became a member of St. Mary's Church.
He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Katherine; three brothers, Claudie, Mike and Andrew; two sisters, Agnes Bohay and Mary Wlock; two brothers-in-law, Mike Pillipow and Joe Maystrowich and sister-in-law Mary Dubiel. John is survived by his caregiver, life-long friend and sister, Nellie of Yorkton; brother Joe of Balcarres; sisters Julia (Pete) Blazeiko of Willowbrook, Anne Maystrowich of Melville, Tannie Pillipow of Goodeve and Rose (Metro) Washek of Regina; brother-in-law Fred Bohay of Goodeve; sisters-in-law Doreen Dubiel and Helen Dubiel of Yorkton; his devoted niece Marlene Howden of Regina and numerous other nieces and nephews.
Prayer services were held on Sunday evening May 6, 2001, from St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton. Requiem Divine Liturgy was Celebrated on Monday morning, May 7, 2001, from St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church with Very Reverend Father Dmytro Dnistrian C.Ss.R. as Celebrant. The Liturgy responses were sung by St. Mary's Funeral Choir. The Epistle reader was Ted Wlock with Marlene Howden serving as Cross Bearer. Donald Blazeiko, Ray and Elaine Gorchynski, Larry and Adeline Markham, Ted and Sonia Wlock, Julia Blazeiko and Rosie Washek were Honourary Bearers. The Interment followed in the Garden of Crucifixion, Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Raymond Dubiel, Garry Dubiel, Wade Dubiel, Ron Pillipow, Tony Blazeiko and Eugene Maystrowich serving as Casket Bearers. Following the Memorial Luncheon thoughts of John's life and thanks were given by nieces Adeline Markham and Marlene Howden. CHRIST IS RISEN. Services were directed by Bailey's Funeral Home, Yorkton.

Albert Dubnyk
Albert Dubnyk was born on August 31, 1932 in the Wroxton district of Saskatchewan; a son of Matthew and Daisy (nee Salahub) Dubnyk. Albert grew up on the family farm north of Wroxton and attended Two Creeks School. In 1954, he moved with his parents to the farm they purchased east of Yorkton and during this time he worked in Yorkton. On July 14, 1957 Albert was united in marriage to Violet Ninowsky. Albert and Violet lived in Yorkton before they returned to the family farm north of Wroxton in 1959 where he continued to reside until his passing. Albert operated a mixed farming operation until 1980 and in 1981 he rented out his land and pursued his passion for trucking on a full-time basis. From 1981 to 1992, Albert transported hay and farm equipment to various locations in western Canada. In 1993 he commenced hauling logs to the Weyerhaeuser Mills in Hudson Bay, Prince Albert and Carrot River. His highlight of each winter was going to work in the forest near Hudson Bay. When not working in the forest, Albert hobby farmed growing hay and grass seed for resale. For enjoyment, Albert loved visiting with friends and family and fishing with his grandchildren. His grandchildren provided him with much joy and Albert proudly attended many of their activities. Albert was very handy and he enjoyed many hours repairing and building projects in his workshop. Albert could fix or repair almost anything. He was always willing to help and when someone needed help, they knew that they could call on Albert. Albert passed away suddenly and peacefully on Thursday, May 8, 2003 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. He was 70 years of age.
Predeceased by his parents, Albert leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Violet of Wroxton, SK; his two children, Clayton of Edmonton, AB and Tracy of Vancouver, BC; three grandchildren, Sheldon, Jessica and Tara Dubnyk, all of Yorkton; his brother, Mervin (Edna) of Yorkton; his sister, Dianna (Harold) Molina of St. Albert, AB.; as well as numerous relatives and friends.

Tom Dubnyk
Mr. Tom Dubnyk of Yorkton, formerly of the Tonkin district, beloved husband of Julia Dubnyk passed away on Monday, December 2, 2002 at the Anderson Lodge in Yorkton. He was 96 years of age. Tom Dubnyk was born on January 31, 1906 in Horonitza, Poland to Alex and Annie (nee Feniuk) Dubnyk. In 1929 he came to Canada on his own and settled in the Calder district. He joined his brother William and worked as a farm labourer for Alex Surjik. In 1946 Tom purchased his own farm near Wroxton. On July 31, 1947 Tom was united in marriage to Julie Wistowski. The couple farmed near Wroxton for nine years before purchasing land near Tonkin. They farmed there until 1975 when they retired to Yorkton. Tom was a quiet man by nature who loved the outdoors, doing farm work and gardening. He enjoyed the company of others and looked forward to meeting them at coffee row.
Predeceased by his parents; three brothers, Yakiw, Andrew and William and two sisters, Paraska and Molly; Tom leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 55 years Julie; two sons, John (Molly) of Sherwood Park, AB and their children John Jr. & Tammy; Dave (Nancy) of Yorkton and their children Lindsay, Michael and Chelsey.
The funeral service was held on Friday, December 6, 2002 at the Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home with Mr. Mervin Dubnyk of the Yorkton Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses officiating. The Interment followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Terry Tretiak, Andrew Sagen, Albert Dubnyk, Michael Dubnyk, Jim Blahut and John Shekula serving as the casket bearers. Funeral arrangements were in care of Bailey's Funeral Home.

William Dubnyk
Mr. William Dubnyk, beloved husband of Minnie Dubnyk of Yorkton passed away on Monday, November 26, 2001 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. He was 85 years of age. William Peter Dubnyk was born on October 14, 1916 in the Wroxton district of Saskatchewan; a son of Peter and Hilda ( nee Yurichuk) Dubnyk. At an early age he started farming with his dad. On October 30, 1944 at Yorkton, William was united in marriage to Minnie Werezak. William was a true farmer, he took great pride in the farming operation, carefully cultivating and maintaining his land that produced many bountiful harvests. He never completely retired from the farm, even this fall he was still harvesting a field of wheat. William did not travel far, but did enjoy a drive around the countryside with Minnie. The couple had made their home in Yorkton during the winter months since 1952 and more recently had been residing in a home on Sunset Drive. In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing and visiting the nearby lakes. He liked the outdoors, especially watching animals near the creek. William had also been an active member of the Bradbrooke Congregation of the Jehovah's Witnesses in Yorkton.
Predeceased by his brother Matt, and by sisters Nettie Peleshytyk and Anne Pells, he leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Minnie, a sister Helen Zabinsky of Vancouver as well as numerous nieces, nephews and his many other relatives and friends.
The Funeral Service was held on Thursday, November 29, 2001 from the Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home in Yorkton. Mr. Mel Keeble of the Bradbrooke Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses officiated. The Interment took place at the Yorkton City Cemetery with Albert, Clayton, Mervin and Trevor Dubnyk, Walter Popowich and Alfred Salahub serving as the casketbearers. Arrangements were entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home.

Peter Duff
Mr. Peter Gordon Duff, resident of the Anderson lodge in Yorkton, passed away on Friday, August 2, 2002 at the Lodge. He was 87 years of age. Peter Gordon Duff was born on January 23, 1915 on his parent's farm in the Beaverdale district of Saskatchewan; a son of Will and Isabella (nee Goddard) Duff. Gordon grew up on the farm where he attended Silver Willow School and eventually lived and farmed with his own family. On November, 14, 1951 Gordon married Laura Aiken at Yorkton. Together the couple farmed and raised their family in the Beaverdale district. Gordon was involved with the Creekside Rural Telephone Company, and also served on the Silver Willow School Board and the R.M.. He enjoyed playing baseball, softball and hockey. Gordon and Laura also enjoyed square dancing and visiting with friends at card socials. He enjoyed watching baseball and football on TV and listening to the Yorkton Terriers hockey games. Laura passed away in March of 1982. Gordon continued to live on the farm and helped his son Ian farm for a number of years before moving into Yorkton. In failing health following a stroke, Gordon became a resident of the Anderson Lodge where he enjoyed playing bingo and listening and dancing to old time music.
Predeceased by his wife, Laura; his parents, Will and Isabella; his brother, George (Irene) Duff and his sister, Isabelle Koropchuk, Gordon leaves to cherish his memory, his two children, son, Ian (Marina) of Saskatoon and their two children, Jenna and Graeme; his daughter, Susan (Alex) Baluk of Yorkton and their two children Don and Mark; brothers-in-law, Alex Koropchuk of Edmonton, Garri (Shirley) Aiken of Calgary and Charles Aiken of Calgary; numerous nieces, nephews, and his many other relatives and friends.
The funeral service was held on Tuesday, August 6, 2002 from Westview United Church in Yorkton. Rev. Faye Greer officiated. The organist, Vange Shipowick led members of the church choir and the congregation in the singing of the hymns 'In the garden', 'How Great Thou Art' and 'Amazing Grace'. The Interment followed in the Garden of St. Mark at the Yorkton Memorial Gardens with David Wilson, Clark Anderson, Albert Duff, Graeme Duff, Don Baluk and Mark Baluk serving as the casketbearers. Arrangements were entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home.
