On Friday, February 22, 2002 Mrs. Christina Graves of Yorkton and formerly of the Springside district, widow of John passed away at the Yorkton and District Nursing Home; her family at her side. She was 82 years of age. Christina was born in Lochelly Fifeshire Scotland on September 19, 1919; a daughter to Anne Walkingshaw eldest of three children. She spent most of her early years with her grandparents and numerous aunts and uncles who were very dear to her. Christina attended school in Lochgelly and later in Edinburgh. She found her job as nanny to the Hedley family in Peebles very rewarding remaining friends for her entire life. Christina joined the A.T.S. ( auxiliary territorial service ) during World War Two where she met and fell in love with John Graves. They were married in 1942 in Lochgelly where their first child Alexander Armstrong Walkingshaw was born. In 1945 as one of many war brides Christina with son Alexander immigrated into Canada to be reunited with John in Springside to start their life together. Christina endured many hardships during those early years in Springside; without the conveniences that had been readily available to her in Edinburgh. Christina, John and family lived in Springside for many years before moving to Yorkton where they continued to raise and add to their family. Christina was a very warm, generous caring person who would do anything for anyone. As a mother of eight, grandmother of twenty - one and great grandmother of ten a good deal of her life was spent caring for children. Thank God she loved baking, singing, dancing and story telling; for many long hours were spent doing all of the above. Her children loved to hear her stories of her Scottish heritage of which she was so proud. Music and singing were a big part of Christina's life and she looked forward to Sunday and singing in the church choir. As a member of the Legion Auxiliary she helped with many fund raising events. Gardening was John's dream; canning was Christina's nightmare; eating was the family’s pleasure.
She was predeceased by her husband John in 2001; grandparents; parents; a sister Anne; brother - in - law Sydney and son - in - law Maurice.
