Mary Nakonechny
Mary Nakonechny of Regina, formerly of the Hubbard district entered eternal rest on Monday, December 3, 2001 at the Regina General Hospital. She was 80 years of age. Mary was born on July 12, 1921 in the Hubbard district, a daughter of John and Mary (nee Ivanchuck) Nakonechny. She was the youngest of eight siblings. Mary was raised on the family farm in the Hubbard district where she attended school as well. After completing grade VIII she remained on the farm where she helped out until the early 50's. She ventured to Regina where she worked part-time for a couple of years before returning to the farm to look after her aging parents and help her brother with chores. After the death of her parents, Mary continued to help her brother until his death in 1975. She remained on the farm until the fall of 1977 when she moved to Regina. Here she resided in an apartment until fall of 1990 when she moved with her widowed sister Anne. With failing health and her sister finding difficulty in looking after her, Mary was placed in a Care Home where she remained until her passing.
Predeceased by her father in 1962; her mother in 1963; brothers, Pete as a child in 1909; Joe in 1926 at the age of 12; Walter in 1965; Mike in 1975; John in 1987; sisters-in-law, Annie Nakonechny, Anne Nakay and Anne Nakay; and a brother-in-law John Tataryn; Mary is survived by her older sister Anne Tataryn of Regina and her older brother Tommy of Langley, BC; as well as 8 nieces and nephews.
Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Friday, December 7th at Exaltation of the Holy Cross Ukrainian Catholic Church in Hubbard Very Rev. Methodius Kushko, C.Ss.R. as the Celebrant. The cantor was Ostap Piasta and the cross bearer was Walter Wingerak. The Interment followed in Holy Ghost Parish Cemetery, Hubbard District with Roman Tataryn, Gary Tataryn, Donald Nakonechny Roman Rushinko, Edward Rushinko, Nick Dmyterko serving as the casket bearers. Eternal Memory! Funeral arrangements were in care of Bailey's Funeral Home, Ituna.

Richard Napady
Richard Napady of Yorkton passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2002 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre after a four-month battle with cancer. He was fifty-five years of age. Richard James Napady was born Sept. 3, 1947 in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, a son of Harry and Anne (nee Salyn) Napady. Richard attended school in Stornoway. After living in Wroxton for two years he moved to Yorkton. He started his first job in 1962 at Crown Lumber, and then worked at the Sherritt Gordon Mine at Lynn Lake. Richard married Sylvia Sliva on February 7, 1970 and they were blessed with two children; Cheryl and Darcy. Richard then began to work hauling furniture for Ball Cartage for a few years. He also worked for Logan Stevens, Hancock Plumbing, and Dyno Vac. Richard then took over selling Dyno Vac out of his own house as a side line business. For the last thirteen years of his employment, Richard was a sales rep with Yorkton Lumber and its successor, McDiarmid Lumber. Richard loved spending time with his grandsons and their dog, Chuckles. His special hobbies included hunting at Hudson Bay, fishing for whitefish at Steep Rock near Swan River, woodworking, tinkering with motors and just working in his garage. He also enjoyed yard work and all nature had to give him. He loved country music and enjoyed going to the Dauphin Country Fest every year. There was never a problem Richard couldn't solve or a challenge he didn't accept. He was always walking around with a pen and paper to plan out his next building or fixing project. Richard was always willing to help everyone, anytime they needed it. His four month battle with cancer didn't stop him from helping his son to renovate his house. Even when he was told that chemotherapy was not going to help him, he refused to give up. That was just the man he was. He will be dearly missed and loved. Our memories will always be with him.
Richard leaves to celebrate his life: his wife, Sylvia; parents, Harry and Anne Napady of Yorkton; his son, Darcy of Yorkton; daughter, Cheryl (Pete) Buzinski of Yorkton; grandchildren, Travis, Jared and Bryan Buzinski; brother, Randy (Linda) Napady of Wroxton; sisters, Sylvia Cheveldeoff of Saskatoon and Iris (Wayne) Kardash of Saskatoon; Sylvia's parents, Steve and Francis Sliva of Yorkton; brother in law, Dennis (Donna) Sliva of Regina; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. Richard is predeceased by his brother-in-law, Fred Cheveldeoff in 1991 and his grandparents.
Prayer Services were held on Monday, December 30, 2002 at 7:00 p.m. from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre. Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Tuesday, December 31, 2002 from St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton with Very Rev. Fr. Bryan Bayda, C.Ss.R as the Celebrant. The responses were sung by St. Mary's Funeral Choir. The Epistle was read by Les Diakow. Kelly Kardash served as a crossbearer. A tribute and words of remembrance were given by Wayne Kardash and Richard's sister, Sylvia Cheveldeoff. The Honourary Bearers were grandsons, Travis, Jared, and Bryan Buzinski, Jeff Cheveldeoff, Marla Sliva and Garret Sliva. Interment followed in the Garden of Gethsemene in the Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Kevin Napady, Cory Napady, Greg Cheveldeoff, Evan Labas, Dennis Sliva and Joe Batuik serving as the casketbearers. Vichnya Pamiat! Arrangements were entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home.

Polly Nawrocki
Mrs. Polly Nawrocki, formerly of Yorkton, widow of John Nawrocki passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2002 at her home in Regina. She was 91 years, 1 month and 10 days of age. Polly Nawrocki was born on March 3, 1911 at Rama, Saskatchewan; a daughter of Francis (nee Andruhiu) and Albin Wiazek (Wionzek). She and her two brothers and one sister were raised on the family farm. In 1933 she was united in marriage to John Nawrocki. John worked on the railway at Sylvania, Saskatchewan and also farmed three miles south-east of Sylvania. After purchasing more land the family moved in 1945 to a new location two miles from Sylvania, where they continued to farm and raise their family. The couple retired in 1970 and purchased a home in Yorkton. Polly spent many contented hours in her garden, and knitting and crocheting items for her family and friends. John passed away in 1981 and following that time Polly remained in her home until 1990, when she became a resident of the Clements Court in Yorkton. In 1999 she moved to Regina into a private senior care home near her son and daughter-in-law Orest & Lucille. While in Regina, she spent her time knitting for her grandchildren, friends, for 'Blankets for Canada', and the Salvation Army. She was an instigator of activities and banter at the home until her stroke on March 25th.
Besides her husband she was predeceased by a daughter, Della Robertson in 2000, by two brothers, Joe & Louis, and by her sister Mary. She is survived by her two sons, Mike (Marion) of Thunder Bay, ON, and Orest (Lucille) of Regina; one daughter, Jean (Sherman) Forsyth of Oliver BC; 12 grandchildren: Rob (Gwen) Nawrocki of Markham ON, John Nawrocki of Markham ON, Chris (Laura) Nawrocki of Grimsby ON, Bruce (Marrianne) Forsyth of Hazelton BC, Doug Forsyth of New Westminster BC, Loretta (John) Taylor of 100 Mile Ranch BC, Patricia (David) Siedler of Oliver BC, Dan (Charlene) Nawrocki of Calgary, Paul (Wendy) Nawrocki of Perth, Australia, Denis (Lisa) Nawrocki of Whitecourt AB, Iain Robertson of Orangeville ON, Michelle Robertson of Calgary; 14 great grandchildren; also one sister, Emily Turick of Winnipeg.
Prayer services were held on Thursday, April 18th at the Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home with Very Rev. Dmytro Dnistrian, C.Ss.R. officiating. Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Friday, April 19th at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton with Rev. Fr. Bryan Bayda, C.Ss.R. as the Celebrant. The responses were led by St. Mary's Funeral Choir. The crossbearer was Patricia Forsyth and the epistle reader was Lucille Nawrocki. Members of the U.C.W.L. Branch #1 participated in an honour Guard, which included Anne Gulka bearing the prapor; Mary Tratch and Angie Grunert serving as banner bearers and Kay Holowka, Olga Prybylski, and Mary Lazurko bearing the memorial wreath. The honourary bearers were Denis Nawrocki, Fred Bowditch, Sheila Bowditch and Mike Berta. The Interment followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Iain Robertson, Chris Nawrocki, John Nawrocki, Bruce Forsyth, Doug Forsyth and Dan Nawrocki serving as the casketbearers. Funeral arrangements were in care of Bailey's Fuenral Home.

Martha Niefer
Mrs. Martha Niefer, beloved wife of Art Niefer, was born on April 14, 1925 at Winnipeg, Manitoba, She became a child of God through the waters of Holy Baptism in her infancy at Winnipeg. Later she renewed her baptismal vows through the rite of Confirmation at the Lutheran Church in Togo. She lived with her parents on the farm at Togo and received her elementary and high school education there. On June 5, 1949, Martha was united in marriage to Art Niefer at Togo. This union was blessed with three children. Our Lord called her to her heavenly home on Sunday, August 26, 2001 at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon. Martha and her husband Art lived quietly in Yorkton where they raised their family and had their children educated. Martha was a devoted wife and mother. She was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Her Lord and her church meant much to her. She loved gardening, growing an abundance of flowers and vegetables each year.
She was predeceased by her parents David and Molly (nee Eisner) Ruf, and by her twin brother Edward. Martha leaves to mourn her passing and to cherish her memory her loving husband Art; her sons Donald (Cathy) of Calgary, Darryl of Virginia, USA, and Dale (Marene) of Calgary; four grandchildren, Darren, Taylor, Reid and Emily, all of Calgary; two sisters, Olinda Ruf of Hemet, California and Greta Duffin of Sacramento, California; a sister-in-law Elsie Ruf of Yorkton, nieces, nephews, and her many other relatives and friends.
The funeral service was held on Wednesday, August 29, 2001 from St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Yorkton with Rev. Fred Schneider officiating. A tribute from son Darryl was read by Rev. Schneider. The organist, Judy Berg led members of the congregation in the singing of the hymns Abide With Me, What A Friend We Have in Jesus and How Great Thou Art. Soloist Norm Graff sang In the Garden. The Interment followed in the Garden of St. Matthew with Donald, Darryl and Darren Niefer, Norman Graf, Rudy Pister and Ken Betker serving as the casketbearers. Arrangements were in care of Bailey's Funeral Home.

Isabel Niessen
Mrs. Isabel Niessen of Yorkton passed away Thursday, November 16, 2000 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. She was 90 years of age. Isabel Charlotte Niessen was born on January 23, 1910 at Willowbrook, Saskatchewan, a daughter of Horace and Isabella (nee Gove) Jackson. Isabel was a woman ahead of her time. When her husband Dietrich passed away in 1941 she bought her own business and moved with her mother and two baby daughters to operate a cafe in Willowbrook. Besides running her business she raised her two daughters. Isabel continued to live in Willowbrook until 1958 when she moved to Yorkton. Here she accepted a position with Howie's Jewellery, where she remained until her retirement. Isabel was a founding member of the Willowbrook Willing Helpers and a member of the Yorkton Rebeccas. Isabel was active in all community activities in Willowbrook and in Yorkton she was a faithful member of Knox Presbyterian Church. Her favourite pastime was playing bridge.
Besides her parents and husband, Isabel was predeceased by her brothers Reginald and Horace Jackson and her sisters, Dorothy Augusta Rothwell and Ethel Neil. She leaves to mourn her passing and to celebrate her life, two daughters, Valerie (Garry) Robertson of Yorkton and Ethel Niessen (Philip Guscott) of Vancouver; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 18th at Knox Presbyterian Church in Yorkton with Rev. Irving Fraser officiating. Malinda Ottenbreit gave the scripture reading and Valerie-Ann Cherneski delivered the eulogy. Soloist Sharon McArthur sang How Great Thou Art, Just A Closer Walk With Thee, It Is No Secret, The Rose and You Are My Sunshine. The organist, Ruth McPhee, led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, In The Garden and The Old Rugged Cross. The Interment followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Grant Wurts, Jared Robertson, Gordon Jackson, Grant Ottenbreit, Garry Robertson and Cameron Neil serving as the casket bearers. Funeral arrangements were in care of Bailey's Funeral Home, Yorkton.

Jack Ninowsky
Mr. Jack Ninowsky, a resident of Anderson Lodge in Yorkton and formerly of the Calder district died on Saturday, June 30, 2001. He was 80 years of age. Jack was born on July 21, 1920 in the Calder district, a son of pioneer parents, Hrynko and Ann (nee Ewachewski) Ninowsky. Jack was raised on the family farm along with eleven siblings and received his education at Liberal School. He enjoyed playing baseball and other games with his school pals and his brothers. Following his education Jack spent his lifetime on the family farm working together with his brothers. He especially enjoyed and took pride in raising purebred Hereford cattle. He loved his work, but at the same time wondered about the purpose of life. He then displayed a great interest in the Bible which enabled him to develop a strong faith and hope of a resurrection. With this conviction he dedicated his life to Jehovah's Witnesses. Jack endeared himself to the people who knew him by his gentle personality and the "always there" smile on his face. Jack spent the last four years as a resident of Anderson Lodge in Yorkton.
Jack was predeceased by his parents, Hrynko and Ann (nee Ewachewski); brothers Nick, John, Steve, Michael, Joseph and Walter; sisters, Annie Lusney, Sophie Kowalyshyn and Mary in infancy; and a niece Vivian Lusney. He leaves to cherish his memory two brothers, Metro (Sylvia) of Calder and Fred (Olga) of Edmonton; a sister Hilda Pakosh of Burlington, ON; two sisters-in-law Mary Ninowsky of Yorkton and Renee Ninowsky of Provost, AB and brother-in-law Mike Kowalyshen of Rhein; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The funeral service was held on Wednesday, July 4th at Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Mr. Mervin Dubnyk of the Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses officiating. The Interment followed in the Garden of Devotion, Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Gerald Ninowski, Howard Pakosh, Gordon Halyk, Eugene Mellish, Jerry Bayn, Albert Dubnyk and Terry Myllychuk serving as the casket bearers. Funeral arrangements were in care of Bailey's Funeral Home.

Mary Ninowsky
Mary Ninowsky, resident of Yorkton, passed away on Monday, December 9, 2002 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. She was 87 years of age. Mary Ninowsky was born on November 8, 1915 in the Calder district of Saskatchewan; a daughter of George and Alexandra (nee Antony) Bewcyk. She was raised on the family farm and attended the Verboska School. In December of 1936 she was united in marriage to Nick Ninowsky. The couple farmed and raised their family of three children (Violet, Ross (Henry) and Shirley) in the RM of Calder for over 30 years. Mary helped equally with all farming chores; she kept a large garden and enjoyed tending to her flower beds. Her pastimes included crocheting and various other handiworks. In November of 1965 the couple moved into Yorkton. Nick passed away in December of that year, and following that time Mary continued to maintain her independence, caring for herself in her own home.
Besides her husband Nick, she was predeceased by brothers Metro, John & Mike Bewcyk, and by a sister Annie Charambura. She leaves to cherish her memory, her son Henry of Yorkton, two daughters, Violet and her husband Albert Dubnyk of Wroxton, and Shirley and her husband Gordon Halyk of Dunleath; grandchildren: Clayton Dubnyk of Edmonton, Tracy Dubnyk of Vancouver; Rhonda (Keith) Sapara of Esterhazy, Travis Ninowsky of Victoria BC; Nicolette (Carmen) Sivertson of Weekes, and Randy (Ruth) Halyk of Saskatoon; great grandchildren: Sheldon, Jessica & Tara Dubnyk, Jillian & Nicholas Sapara, and Nikeesha Halyk; two sisters, Lena (Steve) Shebeluk of Yorkton, Doris (John) Boyko of Killarney MB; and numerous nieces, nephews and her many other relatives and friends.
The Funeral Service was held on Thursday, December 12, 2002 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre. Mr. Mervin Dubnyk of the Yorkton Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses officiated. The Interment followed in the Garden of Devotion with Randy Halyk, Nicolette Sivertson, Rhonda Sapara, Sheldon Dubnyk, Michael Bewcyk and Cliff Shebeluk serving as the casketbearers. Arrangements were in care of Bailey's Funeral Home.

Margaret Nippi
Margaret Nippi passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2002 at the Yorkton and District Nursing Home, after a long struggle with kidney failure. She was 73 years of age. Margaret was born on August 28, 1928 at Yellow Quill First Nation, the daughter of Rose and Jack Moneas. In her teenage years she met George Littlewolf whom she later married. Margaret was a homemaker and a very hard worker who took care of her children, she was employed at Cote band as a seamstress and did beautiful beadwork.
Margaret was predeceased by her children, Susanne Moneas, Mary Nippi, Raymond Nippi, John Nippi, Bonnie Nippi and infant Andrew Nippi and her great-grandson George Alfred Severight-Lerat, and granddaughter Earla Brass. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband George Littlewolf, her daughters Margaret Brass (Lorne) of Yorkton, Georgina Severight (Ken) of Yorkton;, son Rodney Nippi (Michelle) of Regina, her adopted son Norman Quewezance (Marlene) of Keeseekoose Reserve; also her special grandchildren who were close to her heart: Virginia Severight (George) of Yorkton, Barbara Severight of Fort Qu'Appelle, Ken Jr. Severight of Yorkton, Conrad Nippi of Regina, Angel Nippi of Regina, Miranda Nippi of Vancouver; special great granddaughter, Gabrielle Lerat of Yorkton. Altogether Margaret has sixteen grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren.
The wake vigil was held on Tuesday evening, June 25, 2002 from the Cote First Nation Hall. The traditional funeral was held on Wednesday morning, June 26, 2002 at the Cote Hall. Interment took place in the Cote Cemetery. Arrangements are in care of Bailey's Funeral Home.

Alvin Rendal Norman
Our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Alvin Rendall Norman of the Orcadia district, passed away Friday April 13, 2001, in the Park Unit of the Yorkton Regional Health Centre with his loving family at his side. He had just celebrated his 85th birthday on March 2nd.
He will be remembered with much love by his loving wife Helen of fifty-two years; sons Douglas (Dianne) of Yorkton, Don (Kari) of Regina, Kenneth (Karen) of Yorkton; daughters, Audrey (Ron) Sereda of Saskatoon and Susan (John) Mandziuk of Yorkton; grandchildren Jeff and Lindsay Sereda, Ryan and Reid Norman and Daniel and Matthew Mandziuk. He is also survived by his older brother Howard (Muriel) of Chilliwack BC, sisters-in-law Molly Norman of Yorkton and Marion Darroch of Calgary, cousin Idella (Earle) Park, nephew Bob (Cheryl) Norman, nieces Marjorie (Bernie) Wlock, Dorathy (Norman) Taylor, Susan (Darroch) Brooker and their children. He was predeceased by his parents Frederick Stafford Norman and Susie Fergus Reid, grandparents John Flaws Reid and Ida Estella Reid, only sister Josephine Darroch, younger brother John Wesley and nephews Wayne Norman and Ted Darroch.
Born on March 2, 1916, at Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Alvin received his education at the Orkney Stone School #97. He finished his primary grades at Orkney and took the remaining grades by correspondence. He wrote his final exams at the Yorkton Collegiate for his grade 12 diploma. Alvin was an avid baseball player and played second base for the Orcadia Elephants. He was also a member of the Yorkton Swine Club, winning a competition in Yorkton, then one in Saskatoon and qualifying to compete at the Toronto Royal Fair, but unable to attend due to farm work. Alvin also enjoyed curling, crossword puzzles, card games and a good game of crib. In 1941 Alvin moved to Brandon, Manitoba. He applied to join the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, but early in 1942 he still hadn't heard from the RCMP, so Alvin and his brother Howard drove to Edmonton and enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Two weeks later he received his acceptance into the RCMP, but he decided to stay on with the Air Force. Alvin spent pre-enlistment and further training at Manning Depot in Edmonton, AB, Souris, MB, and then at I.T.S. in Regina, SK. In 1943 Alvin was posted to Dauphin, MB No. 10 service flying training school. On November 24, 1943 Alvin received his wings and became a Pilot Officer. From Dauphin, Alvin was posted to Summerside, Prince Edward Island, then to Sidney, Nova Scotia where he received his commission with the rank of Flying Officer. He flew a Canso twin engine search and surveillance flying boat. His next postings were Goose Bay, Labrador, St. Johns, Newfoundland, Moncton and Penfield Ridge, New Brunswick. The next posting was to Comox, B.C. but the war ended before he was moved to the Pacific. Alvin's discharge papers were signed almost four years from the day he enlisted. Alvin returned to Orcadia, acquired his favourite uncle John M. Reid's land through the Veterans Land Act and started farming. In 1947 Alvin met Helen Audrey Sagan, a salesclerk at Croll's department store in Yorkton. They were married on Dec. 15, 1948 at St. Andrews United Church in Yorkton with Rev. J.E. Jones officiating. After a short honeymoon they moved to their home on the farm. Alvin and Helen were blessed with a family of five: Douglas Alvin, Audrey Maureen, Donald James Grant, David Kenneth Bruce and Susan Kathryn. In 1960, the family moved to the village of Orcadia so the kids would be close to school. In 1968 Alvin and family left the old house in Orcadia and into a new house on the farm. Alvin actively farmed until 1993, when at the age of 77 when he suffered a stroke. With the help of his wife and family he bravely came to terms with his disabilities and made the best of it. He continued to reside on the farm until suffering his second stroke in June of 1996, when he was forced to enter the Prairie Unit and three years later the Park Unit where he resided until his passing. Besides farming, Alvin drove the school bus for 14� years. He was also involved with the Orkney Community Club, and the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, serving as chairman and secretary over the 25 years. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion #77, the Orkney Historical Society, and a member of the Orkney United Church and the Westview United Church.
The Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, April 17, 2001 from Westview United Church in Yorkton with Rev. Faye Greer officiating. The eulogy was given by daughter Audrey and son Don. The organist, Laureen Jemieff, led members of the church choir and the congregation in the singing of the hymns Beyond the Sunset and Make Me A Channel of Your Peace. A duet of Brett and Jana Wlock sang In the Garden. Members of the General Alexander Ross Branch #77 of the Royal Canadian Legion gave the Legion Tribute Service. The Padre was Rev. Ed McManus, the Sergeant-at-Arms was Mike Bidnock, the Bugler was Johnny Miller, and the Color Party consisted of Art Alstad, John Zaretski, Fred Fenske and Paul Zawerucka. Honorary bearers were Wilfred Breehn, Colin Joyce, John Mandziuk, Maurice McKen, Les Muir, Earle Park, Walter Sedlick, Peter Stout, Gerry Turchuk, John Yuzik and Rueben Katzberg. Amid the skirls of the bagpipes played by Dave Gillard, Alvin was laid to rest in the family plot at the Orkney Cemetery, alongside his father and mother, grandparents, aunt and uncle. Randy Breehn, Dave Bright, Wayne Knoll, Robert Norman, Keith Vaughan and Bernie Wlock served as the casketbearers. Arrangements were in care of Bailey's Funeral Home. A special thank you from the family to the nurses and caregivers of the Prairie & Park Units. The family also is very grateful for the Park Unit staff and caregivers for giving Alvin the care and dignity during his last days.

Carl Novakowski
Mr. Carl Novakowski, resident of Yorkton passed away on Friday, December 6, 2002 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. He was 77 years of age. Carl Joseph Novakowski was born on March 29, 1925 in the Halycry district, near Hazel Dell, Saskatchewan; a son of Walter and Anne Novakowski. He was raised on the family farm and received his education in the district. On November 18, 1944 he was united in marriage to Helen Rehaluk at Preeceville. They farmed in the Chechow district near Preeceville until 1961. They then sold the farm and moved to Yorkton where Carl was employed with Logan & Stevens Construction as a carpenter until he retired. In March of 1973 Helen passed away. In December of 1974, Carl was married to Martha Zelaney. The couple had resided in Yorkton since that time.
Besides his first wife Helen, Carl was predeceased by his father in 1958, mother in 1995, a brother Walter in 2002 and by a brother in infancy in 1930. He leaves to cherish his memory his three children: Ernest (Gladys) Novakowski of Calgary; Carol (Mel) Ross of Saskatoon; and Wayne (Annette) Novakowski of Calgary; two stepchildren: Albert (Natalie) Zelaney of Coldstream BC; and Marian (Taras) Robulak of Neepawa MB. Six grandchildren and their families: grandson Jason (Terriann) Novakowski & Julia & Luke of Calgary; granddaughter Pamela (Trevor) Rath & Brendan & Mitchell of Calgary; grandsons Jodi & Chad Ross of Saskatoon; granddaughter Krista and grandson Jamie Novakowski of Calgary. Four step grandchildren and their families: Brian Zelaney of Vernon BC, Cheryl (Todd) Hanna & Matthew & Jaden of Vernon BC; Mindy (Andy) Poulton & Chelsea of Portage la Prairie MB; Keith Robulak & children Shanlee, Morgan & Tyson of Neepawa MB. Five sisters & eight brothers: Mary (Mike) Chalupiak, Helen (Steve) Gulka, and Bernice Maksymiw, all of Preeceville, Rosie (Dorval) Douglas of Coldstream BC, Polly (Gary) Burnham of Seattle, Washington; Rudy (Judy) of Kamloops BC, Frank (Marie) of Kelowna BC, Eddie (Martha) of Williams Lake BC, Mike (Helen), Paul (Margaret), Joe (Doreen), Edward (Barbara) & Steve (Deanna), all of Vernon BC. Also numerous nieces, nephews, and his many other relatives and friends, especially Kenny Legge, Roy & Teresa Hanchuk and Peter Ross.
The prayers were held on Tuesday evening, December 10, 2002 from the Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home in Yorkton. The Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Wednesday, December 11, 2002 from St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton. Rev. Oleh Kashuba C.Ss.R. was the Celebrant. Cantor, Ed Pindus, assisted by members of the Parish Choir led in the singing of the responses. The Epistle-reader was Pamela Rath, the crossbearers were Mindy Poulton and Cheryl Hanna. The Interment followed in the Garden of Crucifixion at the Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Jodi Ross, Chad Ross, Jason Novakowski, Brian Zelaney, Keith Robulak, Trevor Rath, Andy Poulton and Todd Hanna serving as the casketbearers. Granddaughter Pamela Rath gave the eulogy at the prayers and the memorial luncheon. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home.

Frank Novakowski
Mr. Frank Novakowski of Yorkton, passed away following a lengthy battle with cancer on Saturday, October 12, 2002 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. He was 84 years of age. Frank Novakowski was born on September 13, 1918 at Willowbrook, Saskatchewan; a son of Joseph and Katherine (nee Lazurko) Novakowski. He was raised on the family farm. As a young man Frank worked out for farmers and in the bush camps. As a young man he also enlisted into the Royal Canadian Army. Following his discharge he returned home and on January 26, 1942 and was united in marriage to Mary Kobylko at St. Mary's Church in Yorkton. The couple farmed in the Willowbrook district for 12 years. They moved into Yorkton about 1956. Frank began employment with the City of Yorkton, and worked for over 35 years in the City Works Department. In 1982 he suffered a slight stroke; he retired shortly after. Frank loved tending to his yard and garden, he took great pride in his flowerbeds, especially his roses. Hobbies included fishing and watching baseball, especially the Blue Jays. Mary predeceased Frank on May 21, 1992. He was able to maintain his home and yard and care for his cherished dog 'Mitzi' up until this year.
Besides his beloved wife Mary, he was predeceased by sons Mervin and Michael, a daughter Joanne, grandsons Rick Andrusyk, Tanner McKenzie and Brent Andrusyk; brothers Joe, Stanley, John and Laudie and by sisters Minnie Krupa and Rose Lasch. He is lovingly remembered by his eight children: sons, Gerald (Sue) of Sherwood Park, AB, Dennis of Yorkton, Edward (Edna) of Fort Saskatchewan AB, and Raymond (Caroline) of Winnipeg MB; daughters, Irene (Russell) Andrusyk of Burgess Beach SK, Marlene (Orest) Baron of Bashaw AB, Sharon (Rick) MacRae of Rosalind AB, and Darlene of Yorkton; 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Also a sister Kay Edwards of Peterborough ON, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and his many other relatives and friends.
The prayer service was held on Tuesday evening, October 15th from the Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home in Yorkton. The Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Wednesday, October 16, 2002 from St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church with Rev. Oleh Kashuba C.Ss.R. as Celebrant. Members of St. Mary's Funeral Choir led in the singing of the responses. The crossbearer was Rachel Novakowski, the epistle-reader was Penny Novakowski. Honorary bearers were Harry & Rose Lazurko, Norman and Mary Roming and Bill and Sylvia Krywulak. The Interment followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Brent Brown, Kyle MacRae, Mike Novakowski, Steve Novakowski, Glen Andrusyk and Colin Baron serving as the casketbearers. Arrangements were in care of Bailey's Funeral Home.

Oscar Nystrom
Mr. Oscar Nystrom husband of Mrs. Cora Nystrom of Yorkton, formerly of the Theodore district, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 7, 2001 at the age of 99 years. Oscar was born on April 20, 1902 on the family farm in the Theodore district of Saskatchewan; a son of Edward and Anna Christina (nee Jacobsdotter/Norberg) Nystrom. He attended the Westbrook School and farmed in the Theodore district. Oscar was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran Faith. In 1928 he was united in marriage to Cora Dahl and together they raised four children. Oscar was a quiet, soft-spoken man, devoted to his family. He was a friend to all and was quick to help his neighbors and friends. He welcomed others into his home where there was always a cup of coffee ready. Oscar was a hard working man who always provided for his family. He loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman, a sport he loved his whole life and passed on his expertise and great stories to his children and grandchildren. In 1971 Oscar and Cora retired from farming and relocated to Betts Ave in Yorkton, where they welcomed family and friends. They visited family in Ontario and BC and kept a large garden at home. On December 16, 2000 Oscar entered the Yorkton and District Nursing Home.
Predeceased by his parents, three half-brothers and three half-sisters, a son-in-law George Shumay in 1984, and by a nephew and good friend Henry Norberg in 1998. Oscar will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 73 years, Cora; four children and their families: Edgar (Lillian) Nystrom of Renfrew, Ontario and their children Jeffrey Nystrom (Garret, Jordan) of Hudson, Quebec, Darryl (Marjo) Nystrom (Alyssia, Matthew) of Thunder Bay, ON; Eleanor (Lionel) Fedorowich of Yorkton and their children, Sandra (Cam) Lock (Graham, Matthew) of Winnipeg, Barb (Warren) Stromberg (Jordan, Kelsey, Arielle) of Regina, Angie (Ron) Bohemier (Rebecca) of Winnipeg, Wanda Fedorowich (Tim Stromberg) of Yorkton, Ron Fedorowich (Tammy Chetyrbok) of Yorkton; Shirley Shumay of Yorkton and her children, John (Sherry) Shumay (Ryan, Tyler) of Good Spirit Acres, Wayne Shumay (Shiela Spilchen) (Kristan, Meagan) of Yorkton, Jackie (Al) Esasser (Michael) of Saskatoon, Darrin (Jill) Shumay of Saskatoon; Bev Nystrom of Yorkton and her son Warren (Tanya) Nystrom (Keenan, Bryn) of Yorkton; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and his many other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services were held on Saturday November 10, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home in Yorkton with Pastor Fred Schneider of St. Paul's Lutheran Church officiating. The organist Judy Berg led the congregation in the singing of the hymns 'Rock of Ages', 'Just As I Am' and 'Amazing Grace'. Interment followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with John Shumay, Wayne Shumay, Darrin Shumay, Ron Fedorowich, Warren Nystrom and Michael Elsasser as the casketbearers. Arrangements were entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home, Yorkton.
