Alex Schwab
Mr. Alex Schwab passed away unexpectedly at his home at Rhein on Friday, November 3, 2000. He was 82 years of age. Alex was born on October 1, 1918 in the Stornoway district of Saskatchewan, a son of George and Susan ( Nee Erhardt ) Schwab.
Alex was raised and worked on the family farm and received his education at Stornoway School. Alex enlisted in the armed forces and served his country during World War Two from 1942 to 1945. He was stationed in England and the Aleutian Islands. Upon his return, Alex was united in marriage to Molly Herman in 1946; and together they farmed at Stornoway until they retired in 1983. At this time they moved to Rhein. After Molly passed away in 1995 Alex continued to live in Rhein and was united in marriage to Emma Herman.
Alex was a community-oriented man. While living at Stornoway, Alex took an active part in community affairs serving on the board of Trinity Lutheran Church and as a school trustee. While residing in Rhein he was an active member of the Rhein Golden Agers and enjoyed many games of pool, shuffleboard and cards with his friends.
Alex will be remembered with love by his second wife Emma whom he married in 1996, and his daughter Norma and her husband Gary McClelland. Grampa will be greatly missed by his granddaughters: Krista, Heather, Dawn and her husband Chris Cunningham, all of whom had a very special place in his heart. He also leaves to remember his sister Martha; brother Paul (Edna); Emma's family: Gloria and Gerald Stumph, Carol and Wally Hersak, Linda and Rodney Liebrecht and their families as well as several sisters and brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Alex was predeceased by his loving wife Molly in 1995; his parents; his son Jackie in 1971; a sister in infancy and his brother Walter in 2000.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon, November 7, 2000 from Christ Lutheran Church in Rhein, Sask. with Pastor Daphne Bender officiating. The organist was Loretta Tillman leading the congregation in the hymns "How Great Thou Art", "Amazing Grace" and "Abide With Me". Reflections and remembrances of Alex life were given by his daughter Norma. The Interment followed in the Garden of St. Matthew, Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Judy Martin, Dorothy Allen, Allan Chilton, Clifford Herman, Barry Herman and Randy Herman serving as Casket Bearers. Services were directed by Bailey's Funeral Home, Yorkton.

John Henry Schwab
Mr. John Henry Schwab, resident of the Yorkton and District Nursing Home, passed away on Friday, April 27, 2001. He was 81 years of age. John Henry Schwab was born on May 10, 1919, at Runnymede, Saskatchewan to Jacob and Elizabeth (nee Pfeifer) Schwab. He was baptized at Christ Lutheran Church in Runnymede. Henry, as he was known to everyone, attended Runnymede School and worked on the family farm. In 1942 Henry was enlisted and served in the army for three years before his discharge in July of 1945. He began working at bush camps in Ontario and later started working in construction with various companies in Winnipeg, Manitoba and Alberta. After he retired Henry moved to Yorkton where he spent a lot of time at the drop in centre and the New Horizon Seniors Club. He enjoyed playing cribbage and rummy. With failing health, Henry entered the Alzheimers Unit at the Yorkton District Nursing Home in June of 2000 where he lived until his passing. Henry was known as a kind and gentle person and his company was enjoyed by many. He will be missed and lovingly remembered.
He was predeceased by his parents Jacob and Elizabeth Schwab, his sister Esther Mackay, two brothers, David and Richard, and two brothers-in-law, Fritz Welke and John Leis. Left to mourn his passing and cherish his memory are his four sisters: Millie Welke of Langenburg, SK, Mary Leis of Kamsack, Rosie Liebrecht of Yorkton, and Elsie (Elmer) Mehling of Yorkton; one brother, Manuel (Lorraine) Schwab of Fort St. John BC; two sisters-in-law, Ann Schwab of Kamsack and Helen Schwab of Penticton BC; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and relatives.
The Funeral Service was held on Monday, April 30, 2001 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Rev. Daryl Woods of St. Andrew's United Church officiating. The organist, Sharon Litvanyi, led the congregation in the singing of the hymns Abide With Me, Amazing Grace and What A Friend We Have in Jesus. The Interment followed in the Garden of St. Mark with Doug Scott, Trent Leis, Keith Mehling, Al Mehling, Rob Mehling and Sean Mehling serving as the casketbearers. Arrangements were in care of Bailey's Funeral Home.

Arnold Schwartz
Mr. Arnold Schwartz, resident of the Yorkton and District Nursing Home, passed away on Saturday morning, June 8, 2002. He was 74 years, 10 months and 5 days of age. Arnold Elmer Schwartz was born on August 3, 1927 on the family farm in the Rhein district of Saskatchewan; a son of Alex and Mary Schwartz. He was baptized at Christ Lutheran Church and spent most of his life in Rhein. Arnold suffered a debilitating stroke at age 58, and had been a resident of the Yorkton and District Nursing Home for the past 16 years. On numerous occasions Arnold was able to leave the nursing home with his sister Irene and brother-in-law Walter Liebrecht to take a drive in the country and visit the farm. He greatly enjoyed taking those short trips. Arnold received good care from the staff at the nursing home for all the years he was there, his last wish was to be set free so that he could rest. Predeceased by a brother Rheinholdt in May of 1984, his father Alex in October of 1984, and by his mother Mary in September of 1985.
He is survived by his sister Irene Liebrecht and her husband Walter of Rhein and their children, Judy and Don Leikam & family of Peace River, Alberta, Joyce Liebrecht of Regina, Ernie and Val Liebrecht of Yorkton and Robert Liebrecht of Rhein; also a sister-in-law Jean Schwartz and family of Winnipeg.
The funeral service was held on Wednesday afternoon, June 12, 2002 from Christ Lutheran Church in Rhein with Rev. Daphne Bender officiating. The organist, Arlene Stiglitz led members of the congregation in the singing of the hymns 'Lord, Take My Hand and Lead Me', 'Amazing Grace', and 'Just As I Am'. The Interment followed in the Christ Lutheran Cemetery with Robert Liebrecht serving as the urnbearer. Arrangements were entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home.

John Schwartz
Mr. John Schwartz, of Kelowna BC, formerly of Yorkton, passed away on Monday, February 17, 2003 at his home with his family present. He was 80 years of age. John Schwartz was born on December 1, 1922 in Rhein, Saskatchewan; a son of Henry and Marie Schwartz, who lived in the Rhein district. On December 2, 1945 John married Audrey Ellenchuk and they moved to Runnymede, Saskatchewan, where they raised their five children. John farmed with his brother Willy and his family for 36 years. In 1981 John and Audrey retired from farming and moved to Yorkton but John continued to farm part time. After Audrey passed away in 1991 John remained living in Yorkton until 1997, at which time he moved to Kelowna with his daughter Valerie and her husband Kurt. During his life, John loved to farm and fish. While living in Saskatchewan, he could often be found fishing at Lake of the Prairies looking for the big one. Later, when he moved to Kelowna, he fished the lakes in the Okanagan Valley. He happily shared his catch with others. John's family was very important to him and his love for his family was apparent in everything he did. The family gathered to be with him whenever they could.
Predeceased by his wife Audrey in 1991, his father Henry and mother Marie; two brothers, Alex and Willy and by three sisters, Lea, Edna and Doreen. John leaves to mourn his passing and to cherish his memory, five children: Valerie (Kurt) Weilerman of Kelowna, Judy (Larry) Kalmacoff of Peachland, Elwood (Andy) of Red Deer, Wendy (Lyle) of Winnipeg and Terri (Bruce) of Winnipeg. Also 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren: Dawn, Chad, Paula, Bradley, Joel, Robyn, Jill, Ryan, Jeremy, Jerilyn, Joshua, Jordan, Brenleigh, Demery, Dane, Wyatt and Raegen and his brother Jack of Woodstock and sister Rachel (Albert) Pister of Yorkton.
The funeral service was held on Monday, February 24, 2003 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre. Mr. Gerald Kreba of the Yorkton Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses officiated. Inurnment took place in the Yorkton City Cemetery. Local arrangements were entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home.

Paul Sebulski
Mr. Paul Sebulski of Yorkton, formerly of Rokeby, died peacefully with his family around him on Sunday, January 28, 2001, at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. He was 75 years of age. Paul Franklin Sebulski was born on July 1, 1925 to Frank and Rose (Fushtey) near Sheho. He attended Fosti School, Sheho High School and Moose Jaw Normal School. In 1942 he moved to Island Falls in northeastern Saskatchewan where he established a school. Four years later he returned to teach near Sheho. While at Mount Hecla he met Katherine Kitzan who was teaching at Birch Creek. They were married in July, 1952. They taught at Mistatim, Margo, Yorkton, Melville and Esterhazy. Paul served as Principal at Gerald, Jansen, and Estevan Westview School where he injured his back and was forced into disability. In 1971 Paul and Katherine moved to Yorkton. In 1982 they moved to Rokeby and fulfilled his lifetime dream, Parkland Heritage Centre. Here he met and made many new friends. In 1996 a fire wiped out part of the Heritage Village including a barn and shops. Subsequently he suffered his first mild heart attack, his diabetes accelerated and his health deteriorated. In 1999 Paul began renal dialysis. Paul enjoyed and played many sports and musical instruments. He served on many committees and was a member of the Third and Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus.
He was predeceased by his parents; brothers Bill, John, Peter, Alec, Walter and Ernest; and sisters Elsie Koropatwa and Katherine Bobee. Paul is survived by his loving wife Katherine (Kay) of 48 years; children Gloria (Ray) Jeanson, Julliette (John) Horstman, Leola and Duane Sebulski; grandchildren Kari (David) Bergmuller, Joni, Sara, Aaron and Daniel Jeanson; step-grandchildren Laura and Melinda Horstman; a sister Mary Streelaski; four sisters-in-law, Dora, Victoria, Katie and Dorothy Sebulski and a brother-in-law, Nick Bobee.
Prayer services were held on Wednesday, January 31st at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton. Members of the Knights of Columbus, Father Delaere Council led in the praying of the rosary. Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Thursday, February 1st at St. Mary's Church with Very Rev. Dmytro Dnistrian, C.Ss.R. as the Celebrant. Responses were led by St. Mary's Funeral Choir. Leola Sebulski served as the organist. The epistle reader was Julliette Horstman and the cross bearer was Leonard Sebulsky. Joe J. Ratushniak and Lorne Sakundiak served as banner bearers. All those in attendance were considered as honorary bearers. The Interment followed in the Garden of Gethsemane, Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Walter Streelasky, Ronnie Sebulski, Randy Kuzek, Russel Yasinowski, Peter Hrbachek and Harry Kardynal serving as the casket bearers. Tributes were presented by brother-in-law Paul Kitzan and friend John Zatwarnitski. Funeral arrangements were in care of Bailey's Funeral Home.

Dan Secundiak
Mr. Dan Secundiak of Yorkton, beloved husband of Angie Secundiak passed away suddenly on Monday, June 17, 2002 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. He was 53 years of age. Daniel Emil Secundiak was born at Canora, Saskatchewan on October 27, 1948 to Emil and Olga (nee Kuzik) Secundiak. He was raised in Stenen and received his education in Stenen and Sturgis Composite High School, graduating in 1966. Dan's passion and love for sports started at a young age. At the age of three, he was playing hockey in the back alley in his older brother's hockey equipment. At age eleven, he started playing Senior ball with the Stenen Baseball Club which was ultimately inducted in the Sask. Baseball Hall of Fame in 1995. He attended the St. Louis Cardinals Baseball Camp, Brandon Wheat Kings Hockey Club, Regina Pats, Saskatoon Blades and Melville Millionaires Hockey Camps. In 1968 he started working at the Bank of Montreal with his first posting being in Weyburn. Here he joined the Weyburn Canadians Fastball Club. The club's goal was to become champs. They attained that goal and in 1972 became the Canadian Fastball Champions. The press affectionately dubbed the pitcher, Pete Landers and Dan, "Jake & the kid". A few years later the team was inducted in the Sask. Sports Hall of Fame. His transfers brought him to Saskatoon and the start of his "Professional Fastball Career", first with the Saskatoon Jacks and then the Winnipeg Colonels. Although he was an all-round sportsman, playing hockey and curling in the winter, baseball and fastball, or both at the same time in the summer. It wasn't until 1977, he got serious about golf. He claimed the trophy at numerous tournaments and the ultimate on June 1st, 2002, a hole in one on no. 16 at Deer Park Golf Course. He played Rec Hockey, his main team being the Yorkton Old Relics, a great group of guys whose friendship and camaraderie he held close to his heart. Whenever time permitted Dan enjoyed going camping and fishing. Dan married Angie (nee Dranchuk) on September 1, 1973, his high school sweetheart, life long friend and soul mate. Together they achieved life's ultimate goal, two children, who were Dan's pride and joy. He supported them in everything they did and pushed them to be the best they could be, guiding them to accept success and defeat with humility and dignity. The full circle of life came with the birth of his granddaughters. He loved being a gido and looked forward to teaching them the same values in life that he thought his children.
Dan is survived by his wife, Angie; daughter Catherine and her partner Chris Crellin and their children Andrea and Jessica; son Trevor; brother Merv and his wife Sharon and their children, Brad & Carrie and Blair & Charlene; brothers-in-law, George (Adeline) Dranchuk, Peter (Eleanore) Dranchuk, Eugene (Marge) Dranchuk; sisters-in-law Helen Chapman and Lillian Toporowski; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Emil on October 1, 1988 and his mother Olga on September 30, 1998. Dan's untimely passing leaves an emptiness in everyone's life especially his family, but he has left us with cherished memories that will be with us forever.
Prayer services were held on Thursday, June 20th at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton. Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Friday, June 21st at St. Mary's Church with Very Rev. Dmytro Dnistrian, C.Ss.R. as the Celebrant. St. Mary's Funeral Choir led in the singing of the responses. Lorne Sakundiak served as crossbearer and epistle reader. The ushers were Ivan Sakundiak and Peter Ostafichuk. Members of the Yorkton Old Relics served as honourary bearers. The Interment followed in the Garden of Gethsemane, Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Kevin Lubiniecki, Terry Struthers, Ivan Richards, Gerry Gromnisky, Dale Skibinsky and Dwight McMillan serving as the casket bearers. Memorials in Dan's name may be made to the Dan Secundiak Junior Golf Memorial Fund or the Heart & Stroke Foundation as gifts of remembrance. Funeral arrangements were in care of Bailey's Funeral Home.

Minnie Seiferling
Mrs. Minnie Seiferling of Yorkton, Sask., passed away December 1, 2000, at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre following failing health. She was 85 years 9 months and 14 days of age. Minnie was born on February 4, 1915 at Francis, Sask. She was the second of four cnildren born to Joseph and Margaret (nee Robertson) Lennie. Minnie's mother passed away when Minnie was about seven years old. She, her brother and sisters were split up to live with foster parents. On February 21, 1935 at Sedley, Sask., Minnie was united in marriage to Andy Seiferling. They were a farming family and raised seven children, eventually moving to Yorkton in 1959 and made their residence on First Avenue. Andy died in January 2000.
Minnie leaves to cherish her memory and to celebrate her life her loving family: a son Ed Seiferling and Candyce Steinmann of Langley, B.C.; daughters Theresa and Rae Bennett of Lethbridge, Alta., Juanita and Harold Heembrock of Dubuc, Sask., Paula Switzer of Penticton, B.C., Carol and Don Harrison of Kelowna, B.C., Penny Smith and Don Sachs of Saskatoon, Sask. Debbie Yelle and Norm Leib of Calgary, Alta.; her grandchildren, Nadine, Erin and Jamie (Bennett), Louise, Wayne, Denise, Gordon, Natalie, Karin (Heembrock), Lonnie Rumack, Shawn, Leah (Harrison), Leilani, Chad (Smith), Kristin, Daina, and Victoria (Yelle); also 18 great-grandchildren and a sister Pearl Gerry of Saskatoon, Sask. She was predeceased by her parents; husband Andy; a son Paul in 1952; a great grandson Justin in 1994; her sister Florence Reeves in 1994 and a brother Tom in 1992. Minnie's family would like to express special thanks to Cindy Gottschall, John and Ann Pasishnik, Leah Brown, Clara Bast, Theresa Molnar, John and Teresa Ruzycki for their help and devotion.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon, December 5, 2000 from the Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home Yorkton, with Deacon Urban Kiernan of St. Gerard's Roman Catholic Church Yorkton. The song "Road To The Isle" was played by piper Leo Nijssen. Special music selections were "Truly, Madly, Deeply" and "Higher Power". The Interment followed in the Garden of St. Luke, Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Louise Heembrock serving as urn bearer.
Services directed by Bailey's Funeral Home, Yorkton.

Mike Sereda
Mr. Mike S. Sereda of the Willowbrook/Beaverdale district peacefully entered eternal life on Sunday, October 27, 2002. He was 88 years of age. Michael Stephen Sereda was born to the parents of Dmytro and Maria (nee Kozar) Sereda on December 6, 1913 in the Beaverdale district of Saskatchewan. He attended Silver Willow School until the age of 14 when he began helping his father and also worked on a wood sawing crew in the Theodore area for a number of years. He and his brother Nick farmed together on what is now the Hardybala farm. In 1940 Mike was united in marriage to Sophie Kozial at Sacred Heart Church in Ituna. The couple farmed in the Beaverdale district where they raised three sons and twin daughters. Michael will be remembered for his talent as a MC at many weddings, anniversaries and farewells. In his younger years he enjoyed sports, hunting, fishing, playing Troika and talking politics. He was always a pleasant person who was ready to greet anyone he met. A compassionate person with a good sense of humour, Mike was able to make friends easily. He loved nature and thanked God for the many blessings bestowed upon him. He demonstrated leadership serving his community in several capacities. He served as a councillor in the municipality of Garry and served on the Yorkton Union Hospital Board. He was a member of the Farmer's Union, Sask Wheat Pool, and United Grain Growers. He was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus, Father Delaere Council, and an active parishioner of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish in Beaverdale. Mike will be remembered for his tenor voice singing the creed and tropars at liturgies. Mike and Sophie always welcomed the parish priests to their home to share a meal for many years. In 1978 at 65 years of age Mike continued an active involvement in the Sereda farm. He realized his strength in maintaining strong family ties, with his greatest joy coming from the visits with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends. He always did his best to love, serve and fulfil his duties as husband, father, brother, gido and friend.
Mike was predeceased by his parents, his wife Sophie in 1987; son Raymond in 2002; great grandson Jacob Orsini in 2000; brothers, John, Bill, George, Fred and Robert and sisters, Eva in infancy, Annie Krewda, Eva Zwirsky, Katie Elash and Minnie Elash. He is survived by his loving family of two sons and twin daughters, Russell (Oksana) of Toronto, Jeanette (Joe) Tarnes of Fort McLeod, AB; Elizabeth (Charlie) Hycza of Regina and Matthew (Debbie) Sereda of Yorkton; grandchildren, Theresa, Josephine, Matthew, Steven, Vera, Gloria, Laryssa, Michael, Melissa, Audrey, Donna, Andrew, David, Jaime and Kristin; two brothers, Nick (Eva) Sereda of Regina and Peter (Anne) Sereda of Jedburgh; two sisters, Rose Lizon of Melville and Helen Zwirsky of Regina; as well as five great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Mike will greatly be missed by all who knew him. 'Treasure him, Lord, in eternal rest. For us on earth he was the best. 'Vichnya Pamyat'.
Prayer services were held on Thursday, October 31st at the Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home. The rosary led by members of the Knights of Columbus, Father Delaere Council #5182 preceded the prayers. Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Friday, November 1st. at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton with Very Rev. Byran Bayda, C.Ss.R. as the Celebrant. The responses were led by Ed Pindus and members of the parish choir. The cross bearer was Melissa Tarnes and the epistle reader was Jaime Sereda. The honourary bearers were Peter Sereda, Alex Elash, Nick Sereda, Nick Kruda, Mike M. Sereda, Nick Benko and all of Mike's friends. The Interment followed in the Garden of Crucifixion at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Richard Elash, David Sereda, Andrew Hycza, Michael Tarnes, David Hycza and Eugene Maystrowich serving as the casket bearers.

Raymond Sereda
Mr. Raymond Sereda of the Willowbrook/Beaverdale district, beloved son of Mike S. and the late Sophie Sereda, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, April 3, 2002 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. He was 57 years of age. Raymond Sereda was born on March 18, 1945 at Yorkton, Saskatchewan, a son of Mike and Sophie Sereda. He received his primary education at Silver Willow School and his high school at St. Joseph's College in Yorkton, attaining numerous proficiency awards. Raymond spent most of his life farming with the exception of one year when he moved to Toronto where he was employed at a bank. He was musically inclined especially on the violin and enjoyed dancing. He also was very knowledgeable in all aspects of farming and enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, snowmobiling, playing pool and troika. Raymond was a parishioner of St. Mary's Church at Beaverdale.
Predeceased by his mother Sophie in 1987; a great nephew Jacob Orsini and numerous aunts and uncles; Raymond is survived by his father Mike of Willowbrook; brother Russell (Oksana) of Toronto; twin sisters Jeanette (Joe) Tarnes of Fort MacLeod, AB, and Elizabeth (Charlie) Hycza of Regina; and brother Matthew (Debbie) of Yorkton; nieces and nephews, Theresa Sereda, Josephine Sereda, Gloria (Clint) Walker; Steven and Liz Sereda, Matt Sereda, Vera (Martin) Orsini, Laryssa Sereda, Michael and Melissa Tarnes, Audrey, Donna, Andrew, David Hycza, Jamie and Kristin Sereda; great nieces and nephews; numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.
Prayer services were held on Friday, April 5th and funeral services were held on Saturday, April 6th from Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Very Rev. Dmytro Dnistrian, C.Ss.R. of St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church officiating. The cantor, Ed Pindus assisted by parish choir members led in the singing of the responses. The cross bearer was Melissa Tarnes. The Interment followed in the Garden of Crucifixion, Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Michael Tarnes, Andrew Hycza, Richard Elash, David Hycza, David Sereda and Eugene Maystrowich serving as the casket bearers. Funeral arrangements were in care of Bailey's Funeral Home.
