DAKIN, Emily (nee Murphy) - It is with deep regret that we announce the peaceful passing at the Lions Manor, Placentia on Thursday, February 5, 2004, of a dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and dear friend, Emily Dakin, aged 99 years, of Mount Carmel. Predeceased by her husband Henry Dakin; her sons: Edmund and Henry; and her daughter Norma Nolan; her sons-in-law: Harry Cooke, Bill Walsh, Jerome Nolan and Leo Hickey; her daughter-in-law Kitty Dakin. Left with fond and loving memories are her children: Michael (Betty), Mary Cooke, Florence Walsh, Marguerite Smilestein (Ruby), Imelda Hickey (Adrian), Willie Dakin, Fred Dakin (Stella); her 54 grandchildren; her 62 great-grandchildren and her 7 great-great grandchildren; her daughters-in-law: Margaret Dakin, Audrey Dakin and Nellie Dakin; numerous nieces, nephews and a large circle of other relatives and friends, including the residents and staff of the Lions Manor, Placentia. Resting at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Mount Carmel. Visitation on Friday from 12 noon - 9 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Funeral will take place on Saturday, February 7, 2004 with 2 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Interment will be in our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Building Fund, c/o Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish. OSMOND, Cecile Mary (nee Barrett) - Passed peacefully away at St. Clare`s Mercy Hospital on Tuesday, October 03, 2000, age 74 years. Left with fond and loving memories are her husband Nicholas; children: Mary Balulis, husband Bill, Greer O`Brien, Nick, wife Mabel, Larry, wife Anne, Ann Learning, husband Don; 12 grandchildren: Madonna, Michele, Krista, Johnny, Colleen, Larry, Steven, Bradley, Paul, Nicole, Michael and Andrew; 6 great-grandchildren: Amanda, Matthew, Megan, Nicholas, Gabrielle and Jacob; 2 sisters: Yvette and Rita, Montreal; three sisters-in-law: Augusta, Patricia and Mary Osmond; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Resting at Caul`s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Rd. BATTEN, Allan - Passed peacefully, but suddenly away at the Health Sciences Complex, on Monday, August 5,, 2002, Allan Batten, aged 63, of Foxtrap. Leaving to mourn his loving wife and friend of 41 years, Shirley; one daughter Rhonda Warren (John); two sons: Rodney (Nancy Ann) and Randy; four grandchildren: Anna and Rebecca Batten, Jonathan and Devon Warren; one sister Hazel Fagan (Les); two brothers: Les Batten (Stella), Robert Batten (Myrtle); also numerous other relatives and friends on the Mainland and Newfoundland. Resting at the James J. Hickey Memorial Funeral Home, Kelligrews until noon Thursday. Funeral to take place on Thursday, August 8 at 2 p.m. at All Saints Church, Foxtrap. SMALL, Minnie B. (nee Newman) - Passed peacefully away on September 6, 1999 at North Haven Manor, Lewisporte, in her ninety-third year, Mrs. Minnie B. Small (nee Newman). Predeceased by husbands Harry Northcott and C. Fred Small; stepsons: Permaneus (Joe) Small, Gander and Roy Small, Lewisporte; sisters: Virtue, Daisy, Lydia, Elizabeth; and brother George. A native of Little Harbour Deep, White Bay, she lived her adult life in St. John`s, Salt Pond (Embree) and Lewisporte. She leaves to mourn step-daughter Phoebe Scott, Toronto; stepsons: Cecil Small (Louise), Amherst, N.S. and Lorne Small (Jean), Middle Sackville, N.B.; sister Julia Parsons, Deer Lake; step-daughters-in-law: Vera Small, Gander and Marion Small, Lewisporte; sisters-in-law: Della Newman, Grand Falls-Windsor, Lucy B. Seevers, N.Y., May Small, Gander; brothers and sister-in-law by her first marriage, Joseph Northcott (Gertie), Lewisporte, The Rev. Oliver Northcott (Chris), N.H., Claude Northcott (Phyllis), Lewisporte and Emma Northcott, Lewisporte; as well as a number of nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; also a circle of faithful friends and neighbours. CHAYTOR, Vera - Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre on Sunday, February 8, 2004, Vera Chaytor in her 91st year. Predeceased by her husband Bertram, sisters Dorothy Warren and Lily McBay. Leaving to mourn her son Douglas (Muriel); two grandchildren: Steven of Lake Louise, Alberta and Susan Reardon (Keith) of Chicago, Illinois; one great-grandson Keegan Reardon; one sister Adelaide Taylor of St. John`s; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and friends. BARNES, Laura Jane (nee Burton) September 17, 1903 - August 3, 2003- Passed peacefully away at the Hoyles-Escasoni Complex on Sunday, August 3, 2003, Laura Jane Barnes, aged 99 years. Predeceased by her husband Harold (1955), brothers Richard and Theodore and sister Mildred Wareham. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her sons Ted (Violet), Frank (Helen), with whom she resided; daughter Enid (Jim Strong); sister Marjorie Burton, sisters-in-law Isabel Barnes, Florence Burton and Lilian Burton; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. Leaving to mourn eight daughters, Mary Johnson (Henry) R.I., U.S.A., Eleanor Davidson (Don) Nanaimo, B.C., Thelma, Alamenia (Kathy) Thorne (Keith), Germaine Rose (Lloyd), Elizabeth, Madonna (Paul), Bernice Kavanagh with whom she resided. Six sons, Capt. Douglas (Elizabeth), Clarence (Linda), Randall (Donna), Joseph, Billy, Phonse. One brother Clarence Browne, Long Harbour. HYNES, Mary Louise (nee Cross) - Passed peacefully away at age 96 at her son`s home in Nova Scotia on Friday, January 24, 2003. Predeceased by her husband Gerald in 1981. Predeceased by her four brothers Bill, Jack, Herbert, and Frank. Leaving to mourn: son Bill, daughter-in-law Gisa, daughter Frances, son-in-law Frederic, grandchildren Tyson, Ardelle, Alden, Freddie, Philip and Adrian, great- grandchildren Toren and Esja, dear cousin and lifetime friend Dorothy Moore and many relatives and friends. McGRATH, Sheilagh - On December 14, 2002 at St. Vincent`s Hospital, Ottawa, Ontario, surrounded by all of her family. A person of immense kindness, grace and courage in the face of a long illness, she touched all who knew her. Sheilagh will be dearly missed. She is survived by her father, the Hon. James A. McGrath, former lieutenant-governor of Newfoundland and Labrador; mother Margaret; sisters, Kathy (Russell Ure), Caroline (Denis Lecompte), Peggy (Mariusz Koper), Joanna; twin brother Sean; four nieces, Kate, Molly, Thea, Sophia; and nephew Patrick. DWYER, Eileen Bridget (nee Nugent) - Aged 89 years. Passed peacefully away on Saturday, January 25, 2003 at St. Patrick`s Mercy Home, surrounded by her precious family, of Kelligrews. She was predeceased by her husband, Patrick J. Dwyer (1957), her eldest grandson, Patrick A. Dwyer (2000) and all her brothers and sisters. She leaves to mourn her sons Roy (Mable), Patrick (Ferne); daughter Rosalene Lewis (Dan). She will be lovingly remembered by her special granddaughter Colleen Stockley (Rod) and other grandchildren Carolyn Dwyer, Cynthia Dwyer, Sean Dwyer (Cathy), Eileen Thorne (Philip) and Patrick M. Dwyer (Kim); precious great-grandchildren Nicole, Jennifer and Amanda Stockley and Sarah and Patrick Dwyer (P.J.). Also other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Resting at the James J.
