STARR, Pauline (Polly) Peacefully May 6, 2000, 13 days shy of her 89th birthday, superbly cared for during her 4 years at New Orchard Lodge, Polly Goode, wife of the late Glenn Starr (1966). Loving and devoted mother of Erin Elizabeth and her husband John Reeves. Beloved older sister of Marjorie Murray of Truro, Nova Scotia. Predeceased in childhood by her older brother Roy and youngest sister Betty, and in 1999 by her brother Harold Goode (Babe). Much loved "Aunt Polly" of Colin Murray (Dartmouth, N.S.), Susan Rifici (Nelson, New Zealand) and Heather Shandro (Vegraville, Alberta). Cousin of Beryl Biefer of Ottawa, whose kindness was greatly appreciated. Remembered by all her many friends at MacKay United Church for her faith and devotion to charity, especially the High Horizons Group. In accordance with Polly's wishes, she was cremated, and her urn will be interred in the Goode family plot in Truro, Nova Scotia. Son of the late Bernard Rene de Cotret and of the late Lauretta Lavergne. Cherished brother of Jacques (Sharon Jardine), Julienne (Josef Schnabl) and Bernard Rene de Cotret dit Bourassa (Pierrette Gervais). Predeceased by his brother Pierre. Also survived by five nephews, Richard, Roger, David, Dennis and Gilles Bourassa; five nieces, Rita, Suzanne, Lise, Victoria and Sylvie Bourassa; eight grandnephews and seven grandnieces. LEECH, M. Jean (Nee Winters) Peacefully, on Tuesday, June 13th 2000, in the 54th year of her marriage to Geoffrey B. Leech, of leukemia. Jean faced her leukemia bravely and coped courageously as it progressed. She is also survived by her beloved daughter Joan Edwards (Brian) of Toronto and by her grandchildren Sarah, Christopher and Jessica. Jean was predeceased by her parents Eva and Roy Winters and by her brother Willard Winters. A memorial service will be held to celebrate Jean's life on Saturday June 17th at 1:30 p.m. at the First Unitarian Congregation of Ottawa, 30 Cleary Avenue, with a reception following. MacINTOSH, Orpha Mae At Almonte, Ontario, on Wednesday, June 14, 2000. Orpha Mae Barry was born on March 7, 1921, the eldest daughter of Carrie Payne (Matilda Township) and Webster Barry (Merrickville, Ontario). On February 27, 1941 she married Cecil Lloyd Thompson at Smiths Falls, Ontario. The couple had two children Wayne and Lyle. Cecil predeceased her (January 14, 1921 - July 24, 1962). From this union, surviving are children Wayne (Anne), Lyle (Geri); grandchildren Barry (Jean) Thompson, Stephen (Phillipa) Thompson, Cathy Chester, Tom (Kim) Chester; great-grandchildren Nicklaus and Jamieson Thompson, Lila and Kale Desjardine. Also left to mourn is her sister Laura Colquhoun as well as her sisters-in-law/brothers-in-law Mervyn Thompson, Vera and Roy Barber, Wilena "Toots" Thompson and their families. Orpha Thompson married Kenneth Keith MacIntosh on April 21, 1967 in Carleton Place, Ontario. Keith had two daughters from his previous marriage Debbie and Cindy. Keith succumbed to cancer on January 17, 1993 (April 30, 1929 - January 17, 1993). Left to mourn are children Debbie (Ted) Letts, Cindy (John) Loftus; grandchildren Jennifer (Joe) De Vuono, Jason Letts, Sarah and Johnna Loftus. Ted was cornet and trumpet soloist and Assistant Director of Music for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Band from 1938 to 1948 and served as its longest director of music from 1948 to 1968. He directed the band in traditional classics, light modern favorites and included in his programme a small chorus group and a very popular marching and retreat ceremony. While under his direction the band supplied the music for the Musical Ride and each year was duty band at the National War Memorial November 11th Remembrance Day Ceremonies. Respected step-son of Bill Belsey. Born in Ottawa, Murray was involved in live theatre at the NAC and became a key member of the Shaw Festival in Niagara-On-The-Lake where he resided since 1984. Murray was renowned for his scenic engineering and had a gift for turning a designers' idea into reality. Following a car accident in 1992, Murray has had a battle overcoming his injuries and we all pray he is at peace.
