William ‘Kirk’ Gibbs
Graveside services for William “Kirk” Gibbs were held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Fairview Cemetery icon. Rev. Christine Richardson officiated the service. Following the service, a dinner was held at the United Methodist Church. Local arrangements were with Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.

Daryl McQuirk
Memorial services for Daryl D. McQuirk were held at 11 a.m. Friday at Temple Baptist Church. Rev. C. Ray Adkins officiated the service. The organist was Rosalie Thomas and the soloist was Brenda Heckel. Musical selections were, “In The Garden” and “At The Cross.” Pallbearers were Mr. Mc-Quirk’s grandsons. Eastern Star conducted a memorial service. Interment icon took place at Fairview Cemetery icon. Greg Meier played “Amazing Grace” on the bagpipes, followed by a Masonic service. The veterans did their traditional flag presentation along with a 21 gun salute. Ted Sarai played the “Air Force Fight Song” and “Taps.” Arrangements were with Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.

Helen Argys
Helen I. Argys, 78, lifetime Salida resident , died Nov. 23, 2001. She graduated from Salida High School in 1940 and studied at Blair College in Colorado Springs for one year. Mrs. Argys returned home as bookkeeper for F.W. Woolworth for eight years and spent five years as bookkeeper for Ed Touber. She worked for Sharpe’s Style Shoppe as sales clerk for seven years and 19 years for the Chaffee County Finance Office as head of the department, until her retirement in 1993. Mrs. Argys was a life member of Angel of Mt. Shavano VFW Auxiliary, a member of Beta Sigma Phi for 40 years and a life member of the First Christian Church. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Ted Argys; son, Jim, of Bailey; daughters, Karen Lloyd, Custer, S.D., and Sharon Howard, Grand Junction; grandchildren, Matthew and Brittany Lloyd, Custer, S.D. and Nicole and Shelley Howard, Grand Junction. Mrs. Argys was preceded in death by her father, Bert Rogers; mother, Sadie Rogers; sisters, Evelyn West and Mary Ellen; brothers, George Albert and John Edward Rogers. Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Christian Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Christian Church through Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.

Davie Dearing
Davie L. Dearing, 66, longtime Salida resident, died Nov. 24, 2001, at St. Mary Corwin Medical Center in Pueblo. He was born Feb. 13, 1935, in Higbee, Mo., to Justice and Martha (Robb) Dearing. Mr. Dearing enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time with his family, swimming in his son-in-law’s pool and his trips to Las Vegas and Elko, Nev. He is survived by his wife, Ramona Dearing, Salida; son, Dave (Linda) Dearing Jr., Cheyenne, Wyo.; daughter, Laurie (Ray) Thonhoff, Las Vegas, Nev.; brother, Harry (Dorothy) Dearing, Madison, Mo.; grandchildren, Jennifer Dearing and Jeremiah (Raelyn) Dearing; a very special brother-in-law, Greg Padilla and many nieces, nephews and brother and sister-in-laws. Memorial services are set for 1 p.m. today at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center through Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.

Paula Campbell
Mass of the Christian burial for Paula Campbell was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Fr. Jim Williams officiated the service. The organist was Georgiana Smith. Musical selections were “Amazing Grace,” “How Great Thou Art” and “Precious Lord Take My Hand.” Pallbearers were Bill Knickerbocker, Harry Knickerbocker, Dave Heeke, John Buhler, Jim Lytle and Dick Bratton. Interment icon took place at Fairview Cemetery icon. Arrangements were with Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.

Shirley Miller
Shirley R. (Alexander) Miller, 72, Wheat Ridge, died Dec. 18, 2001, at Lutheran Hospice, Wheat Ridge. She was born Feb. 26, 1929, in Salida. Mrs. Miller was orphaned at age 10 and she and her sister, Beverley, were raised in Salida by their paternal uncle, Grant Alexander and his wife, Helena. She graduated from Salida High School in 1947. While in high school, she was employed at Long’s Drug Store. After graduation, she moved to Denver and attended the University of Colorado. She was a theatrical ward-robe attendant, union officer, legal secretary and homemaker. She was a member and treasurer of Denver Theatrical Ward-robe Attendants Union. On Dec. 27, 1951, she married Howard J. Miller at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Denver. Mrs. Miller is survived by her husband; daughters, Ann Sue Gunter and Mary Beth Tscherpel, both of Wheat Ridge; son, H. H. Greg Miller, Golden and six grandchildren. Mass of the Christian Burial was held Dec. 21, 2001, at the Archdiocese of Denver Mortuary Chapel. Interment icon was in Mount Olivet Cemetery icon. Contributions may be made to Susan G. Franklin D. Ham Jr.
Franklin Delano Ham Jr., 43, a long time Salida resident, died Wednesday, May 22, at Longmont Hospital. Mr. Ham was born March 8, 1959, in Leadville to Franklin D. and Harriet (Peavy) Ham. He attended Buena Vista and Salida high schools. On Nov. 2, 1979, he married Lois Albers in Salida. Mr. Ham participated in the American Indian Veterans of Colorado Honor Guard, was very active in No. 2248 Venture Crew, a Native American dance and singing group called Tiwahe, and the Colorado State Muzzle Loading Association. He was very active with Native American dance, craft working, leather and bead working. Survivors are his wife, Lois Ham of Evans; a son, John Ham of Greeley, his father and stepmother, Franklin and Sherry Ham of Oklahoma; five sisters, Ella Brasby and Shelly Stevens, both of Salida; Karie Gulik of Augusta, Kan.; Dana Sue Kelly and Melissa Goodman, both of Oklahoma; two brothers, Everett Ham and Eric Ham of Oklahoma and many nieces and nephews. His mother died in 1999. An informal memorial gathering is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at The First Lutheran Church, 13th and F streets, in Salida. Paul Knox
Paul Knox, 86, long-time Buena Vista resident, died May 28, at Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center. Mr. Knox was born Dec. 19, 1915 in Great Falls, Mont. to Paul M. and Mary (Kitchings) Knox. Mr. Knox was a member of the Christian Science Church in Buena Vista. He also held two scientific patents while working for Lockheed-Martin. He also received two certificates of technology achievement from Lockheed-Martin. Mr. Knox was also an avid jazz and classical musician. Mr. Knox was proceeded in death by his parents and wife, Marjorie Knox, brothers David and Joseph Knox. He is survived by his sons, Michael and Geoffrey (Elena) Knox, both of Buena Vista; Stephen (Katherine) Knox of Fort Collins and three grandchildren. A private family service will be held at a later date. Friends who desire may make memorial contributions to the Christian Science Church, P.O. Box 2054, Buena Vista, CO, 81211. Daniel Callaghan Anderson
Daniel Callaghan Anderson, 59, Salida, died Oct. 8, 2002, at Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center. He was born Dec. 12, 1942, in Marion, N.D. Mr. Anderson grew up in Dixie, N.D., and moved to Colorado in 1960. He arrived in Salida in 1977 when he bought the Other Place Bar & Grill. He went into business for himself under Anderson Excavating and recently owned Mid Mountain Poly Steel. Mr. Anderson was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed watching Nascar races and loved Dodge trucks. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles X. Anderson and mother, Mable (Meisel) Anderson and brothers, Eugene, David, Bill, Jack and Paul (Bitz), all of North Dakota. Survivors include brothers, Jerry (Elizabeth) Anderson, Buena Vista, Roger (Joann) Anderson, Littleton and Joel (Kathy) Anderson, North Dakota; sisters, Darlene (Walt) Cox, Missouri and Nina Anderson, North Dakota; children, Joe (Kim) Anderson, Salida, Damy (Mike) Marquez, Westminster and Jake Anderson, Salida and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in the memory of Dan Anderson, for the surviving Anderson children, to High Country Bank, P.O. Box 309, Salida, CO 81201. Domnick Palese
Domnick Palese, 92, lifetime Salida resident, died Dec. 3, 2002, at Columbine Manor Nursing Home. Mr. Palese was born June 28, 1910, in Salida, to Nick and Teresa (Lorenza) Palese. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Mr. Palese worked for many years as a mechanic for Stapleton Garage, Argys Garage and the D&RGW Railroad. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Tony and Joe Palese; sisters, Cath-erine, Mary, Nellie, Vera and Thelma Palese. Mr. Palese is survived by his wife, Jodell Palese; sisters, Louise (Ralph) Mazza and Rose Cicerelli, all of Salida and many nieces and neph-ews. Viewing will be from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1-4 p.m. Thursday at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Mass of the Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery icon. Arthur Warren Long
Arthur Warren Long, 79, died of cancer Jan. 31, 2003, in Buena Vista. He was born July 31, 1923, in Loveland, to Lloyd and Hazel Long. Mr. Long grew up in the Big Thompson Canyon on a ranch near Drake and attended school in Estes Park. He served during World War II in the Army Air Corps as a radar technician. He was a heavy-duty equipment mechanic who worked for Power Equipment Co., Colorado Constructors and the Adolph Coors Co. from which he retired in 1988. He married Elaine O’Rourke on Oct. 4, 1969. Together they built a home in Boulder, with their daughter, Mary, where they lived until moving to Buena Vista in 1990. Mr. Long was an avid rockhound and mineral collector. Specimens he donated are on display at the National Mining Hall of Fame in Leadville. Mr. and Mrs. Long vacationed and hunted mineral specimens in Chaffee County for many years before moving to the valley. He was a member of American Legion Post 10 in Boulder for 32 years and then became a member of Buena Vista American Legion Post 55. Mr. Long is survived by his wife, Elaine; daughter, Mary Long; son-in-law, Rafael Mor-eno; granddaughter, Angela Moreno-Long, Boulder; sisters, Evelyn Bashor, Boulder and Helen Davis, El Cerrito, Calif.; nieces, Sherry Bashor-Douglass, Judy Derrick, Shirley Simpson and Cindy Barger and nephew, Terry Atkission, as well as numerous great and great-great-nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Irma Ray and Joan Atkission. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Runyan Mortuary in Buena Vista, followed by burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetery icon, Buena Vista, and a reception for family and friends in the Piñon Room at the Buena Vista Community Center. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Arkansas Valley Christian Mission, Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity or American Legion Post 55.

Mervin Carl Aude
Mervin Carl Aude, 90, Corvallis, Mont., died March 20, 2003, at the Marcus Daly Hospice Center in Hamilton, Mont. Mr. Aude was born March 19, 1913, in Marble, to William Carl and Bessie May (Clay) Aude. He was raised in Salida, and graduated with the class of 1932. He married Dorothy Ickes on March 20, 1937. Mervin and Dorothy had two sons. Dorothy died in August 1991.
Mr. Aude married Margaret Landreth of Stockton, Mo., on April 29, 1992. They enjoyed traveling. He was a member of Masonic Lodge AF&AM No. 39, Waunita Chapter Order of Eastern Star No. 37, Royal Arch Masons Chapter 16 Gunnison, Masonic Lodge AF&AM No. 57 Salida, Scottish Rite Masons, Al Kaly Shrine Temple, Pueblo; Violet Chapter No. 480 Eastern Star Stockton, Mo; and Rotary Club. Mr. Aude is survived by his wife, Margaret; sons, Duane and David of Tucson, Ariz.; brother, Delbert, of Parker and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Candace and Merva Mae, and brothers Kenneth and Roger. His hobbies included woodworking, jewelry making, photography and being an active member of his community. Cremation has taken place. At his request, there will be no service. His remains will be placed beside Dorothy at Gunnison. Memorials may be made in Mervin’s memory to Routh Chapel, c/o Lynn Owen, 2466 E. Cambridge, Springfield, MO, 65804.
