John J. Feulner of Stamford, a retired U.S. Navy chief petty officer and World War II veteran, died Monday, Dec. 16, at Stamford Hospital. He was 82. He died of natural causes, according to his family. Born June 10, 1920, in Stamford, he was the son of the late Andrew and Babette Feulner. Mr. Feulner served 20 years in the U.S. Navy, enlisting on Feb. 4, 1941. He went to basic training at the naval training center in Newport, R.I., then went to Great Lakes Naval Training Center for machinist mate school. He received further training at Ford Motor Co.'s River Rouge Plant in Michigan. He was stationed in Norfolk, Va., for a precommissioning of the USS Hornet, commissioned Oct. 20, 1941. The USS Hornet carried the planes used in Lt. Col. James Doolittle's raid on Tokyo on April 18, 1942. He served aboard the USS Hornet until it was sunk by the Japanese on Oct. 27, 1942, following the Battle of Santa Cruz in the Pacific. Mr. Feulner also took part in the Battle of Midway Island, and covered the marine landing on Guadalcanal, both in 1942. In 1943, he commissioned the USS Coos Bay in Kirkland, Wash., and served aboard it in the Pacific until the end of World War II. During two tours of duty, he served aboard the USS Soley during the Korean War, on which he circumnavigated the globe in 1954. He received the Navy Good Conduct Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the American Area Medal, the United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Mr. Feulner received the following commendations: one star for American Defense, six stars for service in the Asiatic-Pacific Area, a citation for the Navy Occupation in Asia, one star for Korean Service and a Korean Presidential Citation. After retiring from the navy, Mr. Feulner worked for 20 years for U.S. Postal Service. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Edith Preli Feulner of Stamford; two daughters, Barbara Feulner Kilmetz of Redding and Deborah Feulner Collins of North Myrtle Beach, S.C.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Mr. Feulner was predeceased by a grandson, Jonathan Kilmetz. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, at St. Maurice Church, 358 Glenbrook Road, Stamford. Burial will follow in Queen of Peace cemeteryon Rockrimmon Road in Stamford. Carl P. "Bull" Ficera of Port Charlotte, Fla., a former Stamford resident, died Thursday, Jan. 30, at home. He was 91. He died of natural causes, according to his family. Born May 24, 1911, in Stevenson, Minn., he was the son of the late Frank and Rafelina Ficera. Mr. Ficera moved to Stamford in 1936. He worked and played baseball for the former Stamford Rolling Mill for 34 years. He was a maintenance worker for Stamford Fidelity Trust, which became Fleet Boston Financial in Stamford. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Church Bowling League in Stamford for 35 years. He also bowled with the St. Pedro League in North Port, Fla., and the Elks League in Venice, Fla. He moved to Port Charlotte from Stamford in 1980. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Josephine Metallo Ficera of Port Charlotte; two daughters, Carla Thompson of Darien and Sheila Joseph Toto of Port Charlotte; and four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. There will be no local services. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Monday, Feb. 3, at St. Charles Church in Port Charlotte. Entombment was at Charlotte Memorial Gardens in Punta Gorda, Fla. Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5200 Indian Springs Road, Punta Gorda, handled arrangements.

E. Margie Filter, a resident of Westport for 30 years, and the first female corporate officer at the Xerox Corporation, died Thursday, Jan. 8 at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital in New York . She was 63. She died of complications from ovarian cancer, according to her family. Born Sept. 19, 1940 in Teaneck, N.J., she was a daughter of the late Russell S. and Catherine Smith Matthews. Ms. Filter was a financial executive with Xerox Corporation in Stamford for 30 years. She served as vice president and treasurer for 11 years, as well as vice president and corporate secretary for 17 years. She retired in 2002. "She always said hard work and determination would make a difference," said her husband, Jerry Hostetter of Westport. "There are always complaints about the glass ceiling," from women in the workplace, he added. "But she never used those words. She said she never met any resistance." Xerox said in a statement it "was so fortunate to have Margie Filter as part of our family for 28 years. She was a smart, dedicated, consummate professional with a kind, generous heart. She had unending energy, a strong spirit and exceptional wisdom that contributed to her success in business and in life." She served on the Board of Directors of three New York Stock Exchange-listed companies including Briggs & Stratton Corporation and LaBranche & Co. Ms. Filter retired from the board of Baker Hughes Inc., in 2002 after serving the ten-year limit for directors. She began her career as a securities analyst in 1966 with Morgan Guaranty Trust Company and later worked with G.A. Saxton & Co both in New York. Ms. Filter became a member of the board of Cancer Care of Connecticut shortly after she was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in March 2001. She also previously served on the board of trustees of Wells College in Aurora, N.Y. She attended Wells College and graduated from City College of New York with a degree in economics. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Henry C. Filter III of Stevensville, Md.; a brother, Edward E. Matthews of Princeton, N.J.; and two grandchildren. A private service will be held today, Jan. 10. A Memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 18 at Saugatuck Congregational Church, 245 Post Road East, Westport. John Buckley Finneran, a longtime Stamford resident and real estate broker, died Monday, Aug. 18, at the Richard L. Rosenthal Hospice Residence in Stamford. He was 69. He died of cancer, according to his family. Born July 14, 1934, in New York City, he was the son of the late John A. and Dorothy Buckley Finneran. Mr. Finneran graduated from Tufts University in 1956. He went on to earn a master's degree in marketing from New York University. He had lived in Stamford for the past 16 years, working as a broker for Stamford's William Pitt real estate office for 10 years. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years before serving in the Naval Reserve for 26 years. He retired in 1986. Mr. Finneran was a Navy captain and served as commissary and sales officer aboard the USS Antietam (CV-36) and acted as material division officer at Lakehurst Naval Air Station in Lakehurst, N.J. As a Naval Reserve officer, he was assigned to NSC Norfolk, Va.; Naval Support Activity, Naples, Italy; Ships Parts Control Center, Mechanicsburg, Pa.; and the Defense Logistics Agency, Washington, D.C. As a civilian, Mr. Finneran served as director of marketing for Seagram's overseas sales. He served as past president of the Navy League of Fairfield County. Mr. Finneran lived in Europe for four years and traveled throughout the Far East, Latin America and the Caribbean. He spoke fluent Italian. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Carpenter Finneran of Stamford; a daughter, Kerry Gardiner of Cincinnati, Ohio; a son, Jack T. Finneran of Southport; two sisters, Judith K. Finneran of Greenwich and Susan F. Ashley of Westport; two brothers, Gerard B. Finneran of Greenwich and William B. Finneran of New York City; four grandchildren; and 17 step-grandchildren. Jerry Fiordelisi, a longtime Stamford resident and former owner of Jerry's Pastry Shop in Stamford, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, at Stamford Hospital. He was 94. He died of natural causes, according to his family. Born Oct. 4, 1909, in San Mango Sul Calore, Italy, he was a son of the late Theodore and Luisa Stanchi Fiordelisi. Mr. Fiordelisi owned and operated Jerry's Pastry Shop, formerly on the West Side of Stamford, with his late wife, Ida Boccuzzi Fiordelisi, for 25 years. They retired in 1974. A Stamford resident for 75 years, he was a member of the St. Augustine Council No. 41 Knights of Columbus and the St. Theodore Society for more than 50 years. He also was a member of the National Council of Senior Citizens. Mr. Fiordelisi was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Stamford. He is survived by a daughter, Barbara Hutchison of Shelton; two grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by five brothers, Anthony Fiordelisi, Salvatore Fiordelisi, John Fiordelisi, Rocco Fiordelisi and Giuseppe Fiordelisi; and a sister, Adelina Sica. Fannie Fioretti of Stamford died Thursday, Jan. 30, at Stamford Hospital. She was 96. She died of natural causes, according to her family. Born Aug. 27, 1906, in the Bronx, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Theresa DeJusta. Mrs. Fioretti was a longtime volunteer at Greenwich Hospital. She is survived by her daughter, Edith Brisson of Stamford; a son, Robert Fioretti of Greenwich; a sister, Connie DeJusta of the Bronx; and 10 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Antonina Farris Fiori of Stamford, a homemaker, died Thursday, Oct. 9, at Stamford Hospital. She was 74. She died of complications from Parkinson's disease, according to her family. Born Nov. 3, 1928, in Banari, Sardinia, Italy, she was a daughter of the late Lorenzo and Michelina Sini Farris. She was a Stamford resident for the past 50 years and a member of Holy Spirit Church. Mrs. Fiori is survived by her husband of 55 years, Giovanni A. Fiori of Stamford; three daughters, Michelina Fiori-Nadro, Maria Fiori and Cristina Junker, all of Stamford; four sons, Salvatore Fiori of Trumbull and John Fiori, Joseph "Pino" Fiori and Peter Fiori, all of Stamford; three brothers, Michelangelo Farris and Lorenzino Farris, both of Stamford, and Constantino Farris of Italy; three sisters, Anna Dussconi, Giovannina Basciu and Giuseppina Carta, all of Italy; and 13 grandchildren. Walter J. Fischer of Port St. Lucie, Fla., a former Stamford resident, died Friday, June 25, at Port St. Lucie Nursing & Restorative Care Center. He was 81. He died of pneumonia, according to his family. Born June 29, 1922, in Passaic, N.J., he was the son of the late Johannos Fischer and Elizabeth Keller Fischer. Mr. Fischer served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was honorably discharged Dec. 8, 1945. Before retirement, he was a plant manager for Raythone Industries in Stamford for 30 years. Mr. Fischer lived in Port St. Lucie for 15 years after moving from Stamford. He was of Lutheran faith. He is survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. A service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 29, at Aycock Funeral Home Chapel, 1504 SE Floresta Drive, Port St. Lucie. There are no calling hours. Gladyce Fixman, a longtime Stamford resident who worked as a dental hygienist for more than 40 years, died Saturday, Aug. 23, at Stamford Hospital. She was 63. She died of cancer, according to her family. Born Jan. 8, 1940, in Brooklyn., N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Simon and Ann Stern Kreisler. Mrs. Fixman lived in Stamford since 1971. An avid baker, she sold special-occasion desserts and became known as the "cake lady." She traveled extensively. Mrs. Fixman is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Irwin of Stamford and Erica Bertolino of Lewis Center, Ohio; and two brothers, Stuart Kreisler of New York City and Leslie Kreisler of Richmond, Va. She was predeceased by a daughter, Reina Fixman. A graveside service was held yesterday, Aug. 24, at Congregation Agudath Sholom cemeteryin Stamford. Elinor A. Fleming of South Salem, N.Y., died Tuesday, Dec. 23, at Norwalk Hospital. She was 66. She died of heart failure, according to her family. Born April 8, 1937, in White Plains, N.Y. she was a daughter of the late John and Elinor Nolan Keefe. Mrs. Fleming worked and was a principal in the family business, Vinylume Inc. in Stamford. She is survived by her husband, Joseph Fleming of South Salem; two sons, Don Fleming of Pound Ridge, N.Y., and Jon Fleming of South Salem; a daughter, Joanne Fleming Leonard of Morrisville, Vt.; a sister, Frances Tisdale of Ramapo, N.J.; and five grandchildren. Born May 26, 1929, in Haiti, he was the son of the late Fleurimond and Alice Derosier Fleuriot. Mr. Fleuriot worked at the Hyatt Regency Greenwich and attended St. John's Catholic Church in Stamford. Duncan Forbes, a former sales representative and longtime Stamford resident, died Saturday, Nov. 23 at his home. He was 79. He died of complications from a stroke, according to his family. Born April 16, 1923 in Holyoke, Mass., he was the son of the late Dorothy and Harold Alexander Forbes. Mr. Forbes worked for 36 years in sales at General Electric in Westchester and Fairfield counties. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. Mr. Forbes was a pastpresident of the Darien Senior Men's Association. He is survived by his wife, Gladys Stevenson Forbes of Stamford; a daughter, Carolyn Mirto of Hamden; two sons, Alan Forbes of Topanga, Calif., and William Forbes of Denton, Texas; a sister, Audrey Lawson of Fairport, N.Y.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Phoebe Berfield. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26 at Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien. Burial will be private. Ann Murphy Fox, a retired registered nurse, died Monday, Nov. 18, at New Milford Nursing Home. She was 79. She died after a stroke, according to her family. Born Oct. 4, 1923, in New York City, she was a daughter of the late James A. and Mary Murphy. Mrs. Fox grew up in Greenwich. She graduated from Greenwich High School in 1941 and the St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing in Waterbury in 1945. Mrs. Fox was a cadet nurse during World War II and worked for many years at the former St. Joseph's Hospital in Stamford. She also worked at Putnam Weaver Nursing Home in Greenwich. She is survived by three daughters, Maureen Knippen of Kensington, Md., Kathleen Vermilyea of New Milford and Trisha Riley of Greenwich; a brother, Art Murphy of Stamford; and three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles H. Fox; a son, Charles Francis Fox; and two brothers, James Murphy and Eugene Murphy. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, at St. Catherine of Siena Church on Riverside Avenue in Greenwich. Burial will follow at St. Mary's cemeteryin Greenwich. Hyman "Hy" Fox of Rockville, Md., a former auto parts store manager, died Thursday, March 6 at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, Md. He was 87. He died of encephalitis, according to his family. Born Jan. 1, 1916, in New Haven, he was the son of the late Moses and Rose Hudes Fox. Mr. Fox was a graduate of Morris High School in the Bronx, N.Y., where he was captain of the fencing team. He attended City College of New York in New York City. He owned and operated the supermarket "Gardella's," formerly in Stamford. He later managed auto parts stores in Connecticut and New York for about 25 years. He moved from Stamford to Tamarac, Fla., in 1979, then to Rockville, Md., six years ago. During World War II, Mr. Fox worked in a shipyard building Liberty ships for about three years in Staten Island, N.Y. He was an avid "ham" radio operator, licensed by the Federal Communications Commission as K1PSK. He enjoyed travel, reading, chess and sports. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Beatrice Rabinowitz Fox of Rockville, Md.; two sons, David Fox of Arnold, Md., and Gary Fox of Helensburg, Australia; five grandsons; and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, William Fox; and a sister, Ruth Fox Volkman. A funeral service was held at 1 p.m. yesterday, March 9 at Danzansky-Goldberg Memorial Chapels, 1170 Rockville Pike, Rockville, Md. Burial followed at Baltimore Hebrew Congregation's Berrymans Lane cemeteryin Reisterstown, Md. Shiva will be observed through 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 11 at the home of David Fox in Arnold, Md. Eleanor Carol Franco of Norwalk, a former Stamford resident and retired cake decorator, died Saturday, Aug. 17, at Norwalk Hospital. She was 73. She died of respiratory arrest, according to the funeral home. Born Nov. 28, 1928, in Stamford, she was the daughter of the late Martin Capasse and Emma Amelia Hawley Capasse. Mrs. Franco worked for the Federal Bake Shop, formerly in downtown Stamford. She lived in Stamford and Meriden most of her life and was a foster parent for many problem children in both cities. She is survived by a sister, Amelia E. Dempsey of Stamford; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Vito Franco. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be private. Josephine A. Franco of New Milford, a former longtime Stamford resident, died Wednesday, April 16, at New Milford Hospital. She was 81. She died of natural causes, according to her family. Born Dec. 9, 1921, in Stamford, she was a daughter of the late Nicholas and Maria Piccerelli Albonizio. Mrs. Franco, a homemaker, lived in Stamford for 47 years until moving to New Milford about 32 years ago. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church in New Milford. She is survived by a daughter, Patricia Gillette of New Milford; a brother, Richard Albonizio of Port Chester, N.Y.; and a sister, Beatrice Macchio of Hamden. She was predeceased by a sister, Florence Paquette; and two brothers, Patrick Albonizio and Dominick Albonizio. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, in St. Francis Xavier Church. Burial followed in Center cemeteryin New Milford. Roy A. Frangione, a New Canaan resident formerly of Stamford, died Thursday, Sept. 4, at Norwalk Hospital. He was 45. He died of heart complications, according to his family. Born Nov. 14, 1957, in Stamford, he was a son of the late Carmine and Rose Rotunno Frangione. Mr. Frangione was a Stamford resident until 10 years ago when he moved to New Canaan. He graduated from Stamford Catholic High School in 1975 and went to the University of Connecticut in Storrs, where he earned a bachelor's degree in 1979 and a master's degree in business administration in 1981. He worked as a broker and community IBM leader in White Plains, N.Y., having worked for IBM Worldwide Banking for the past nine years. Previously, he had worked for Citibank and Chase Manhattan, both of New York City. He was a member of St. Aloysius Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus Lafayette Assembly Council No. 41. He was an avid fisherman and a car enthusiast and collector. He is survived by his wife, June O'Connor Frangione of New Canaan; two daughters, Ashley June Frangione and Meghan Rose Frangione, both of New Canaan; a sister, Joy Frangione Kelley of Stamford; a brother, Bob Frangione of Stamford; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Florence Frate, a Darien resident who worked as a receptionist for the city of Stamford for more than 25 years, died Friday, Nov. 8 at home. She was 83. She died of natural causes, according to her family. Born March 19, 1919 in Stamford, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Epifanio and Philomena Cicale. Mrs. Frate graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in Stamford.. She was a member of the local branch of the Over 21 Club and the Piedmont Ladies Auxiliary in Darien. She was a volunteer nurse's aid. She is survived by two daughters, Susan F. Sullivan and Sheree L. Banzhof, both of Darien; a brother, William Epifanio of Stamford; a sister, Lucille Mastrich of Columbus, N.J.; and five grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas G. Frate. Calling hours will be 10 to 11 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 12 at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12 at St. John's Catholic Church, 1986 Post Road, Darien. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery, 25 Camp Ave., Darien. Stanley Frederick of Hollywood, Fla., died Sunday, Nov. 3, at the Richard Rosenthal Hospice Residence in Stamford. He was 73. He died of a stroke, according to his family. Born Jan. 20, 1929, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late Albert Frederick and Bertha Cohen. Mr. Frederick was a former executive vice president and corporate council of Faberge Inc. in New York City and a member of its board of directors. He also was on the board of directors of the Cosmetics Toiletries and Fragrance Association. He graduated from New York University in 1951, earned a law degree in 1954 and then a graduate law degree from the New York University School of Law. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Shirley Frederick of Hollywood, Fla.; two daughters, Debra Kohler of Medford, N.Y., and Robin Frederick of Stamford; a son, Steven Frederick of Stamford; a sister, Bernice Setnor of Hollywood, Fla.; and six grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5. at Temple Beth El, 350 Roxbury Road, Stamford. Rabbi Joshua Hammerman and Cantor Deborah Jacobson will officiate. Burial will follow at Beth El cemeteryin Stamford. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492. Leo P. Harry Fuchs, a Stamford resident, died Monday, Nov. 18, at Mediplex of Stamford. He was 86. He died of natural causes, according to his family. Born Nov. 22, 1915, in Brezhin, Poland, he was a son of the late Isaac and Golda Schuster Fuchs. Before moving to Stamford two years ago, Mr. Fuchs lived in Cranbury, N.J., for 15 years. He worked as a triple-A machinist during World War II in the Brooklyn, N.Y., and San Francisco naval yards. After the war, he worked in the garment industry for 40 years. He was a partner in BetterMade Rexall, a pleating and stitching company. He was a member of the Brezhina Society, Workman's Circle and the Knights of Pythias. He is survived by two daughters, Barbara Caspi of Cedar Grove, N.J., and Wendy Fitzgerald of Stamford; a son, Lawrence Fuchs of Sound Beach, N.Y; a brother, Daniel Fuchs of Bayside, N.Y.; a sister, Marcia Rosenberg of Newport News, Va.; and six grandchildren and a great-grandson. Mr. Fuchs was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn Greenspan Fuchs; two brothers, Alex Fuchs and Abe Foxx; and a sister, Sarah Gononsky. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, at Temple Sinai, 458 Lakeside Drive, Stamford. Burial will be private. Shiva will be observed at the home of Wendy Fitzgerald on Thursday, Nov. 21. Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St., Stamford, is handling arrangements.

Emily Fullajtar, of Norwalk, formerly of Darien, died Friday, Dec. 28, at Mediplex of Darien. She was 84. She died of natural causes, according to her family. Born March 5, 1917, in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Katherine Kneitz Weber. She worked for 20 years until her 1987 retirement as a supervisor for Life Study Fellowship in Darien. Mrs. Fullajtar was a resident of Darien from 1950 until 1981 and was a founding member of the Noroton Heights Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #6933. For 10 years she sponsored a girl in Guatemala and was active in animal rights work. She is survived by three daughters, Katherine Braxton and Susan Fullajtar, both of Norwalk and Cynthia Carrano of Stratford; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a nephew and a great-nephew. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul Fullajtar in 1987; and a brother, Walter Weber. Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery, 223 Richards Ave., Norwalk. Memorial donations may be made to the Connecticut Humane Society, 455 Post Road East, Westport, CT, 06880.
