Joseph Fuller Sr. of Westport, president of Fuller & D'Angelo PC, Architects and Planners in Elmsford, N.Y., died Sunday, Oct. 5, at home. He was 76. He died of cancer, according to his family. Born Nov. 18, 1926, in Czechoslovakia, he was a son of the late Jozef and Agnes Fuller. Mr. Fuller was raised in St. Mikulas in the Tatra Mountains of Slovakia. During World War II, he served as a link between the Slovakian underground and the Russian Army, which liberated Slovakia at the end of the war. His family worked during the war to help Jewish children torn by the Nazis from their families and Jewish refugees, whom they hid and fed. After the war, he studied architecture at Charles University in Prague, receiving his degree in 1950. Immediately afterward, he escaped from Czechoslovakia, then in Communist hands, through mine fields. He worked for two years for Radio Free Europe in Munich, Germany, where he met his wife, before immigrating to the United States in 1953. He had lived in his Westport home, which he designed and built, for 37 years. Mr. Fuller was a member of the American Institute of Architects. One of his firms' current projects is the new Staples High School in Westport. One of his major professional endeavors was WOPEX, a proposed wholesale marketplace located outside of Bratislava, Slovakia, for corporations of industrialized nations. He was an avid skier, in Vermont and the Alps. He also enjoyed sailing on the family sailboat, Sunset, for more than 20 years. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Zdenka Fuller of Westport; a son, Joseph Fuller Jr. of Westport; a daughter, Victoria Fuller Barlow of Westport; a sister, Helena Weinecke of Germany; a brother, Vlastik Fuller of Slovakia; and two granddaughters. He was predeceased by a brother, Ladislav Fuller. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, at Christ and Holy Trinity Church, 8 Lehn Farm Road, Westport. The Rev. John Branson will officiate. Burial will follow in Willowbrook cemeteryin Westport. A reception after the burial will be held at the Red Barn, 292 Wilton Road, Westport. The memorial service for Russell Buchanan Funkhouser Jr. will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, at the First Presbyterian Church of Stamford, 1101 Bedford Ave., Stamford. Mr. Funkhouser, an artist who lived in Stamford for 40 years, died Monday, July 15, at Stamford Hospital. He was 74. He died of a heart attack, according to his family. Nicholas F. Marigo "Mary" Platis Gaches of Bridgeport died Wednesday, Sept. 3 at home. She was 95. She died of natural causes according to her family. Born April 8, 1908 in Florina, Greece, she was a daughter of the late George and Domna Platis. Mrs. Gaches was a Bridgeport resident for more than 60 years where she was an assembler at Casco's. She was a member of Casco's Quarter Century Club. She was a charter member of the Philoptochos Society of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Bridgeport and served on the board for many years. She was also a charter member of the Women's Orthodox Council and the Senior Citizens of Holy Trinity. She is survived by her two daughters, Rose C. Gaches of Bridgeport and Helen Demetros of Stamford; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Demetrios Gaches. Calling hours are 5 to 9 p.m. today, Thursday, Sept. 4, at the Commerce Hill Funeral Home, 4978 Main St., Bridgeport. A funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 5, at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. The Rev. Demetrios Recachinas will officiate. Khamaiya Damonique Gainer of Stamford died Friday, Sept. 26, at Stamford Hospital. She was one day old. The cause of death was undetermined pending an autopsy, according to her family. Born Sept. 26 at Stamford Hospital, she was the daughter of Danny Gainer and Monica Lane of Stamford. Besides her parents, Khamaiya is survived by two sisters, Tevya Lane and Ashley Baines, both of Stamford; two brothers, Danzquan Gainer of Stamford and Dangelo Gainer of Washington, D.C.; her paternal grandparents, Enoch Gainer Sr. and Mabel Gainer of Stamford; and her maternal grandmother, Dorothea Lane of Bridgeport. She was predeceased by a brother. Calling hours will be 11 to 11:30 a.m. today, Sept. 30, at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 31 Arch St., Greenwich. Burial will be private.

Charles D. Garr of Port Chester, N.Y., a former Greenwich resident, died Monday, Feb. 10, at Stamford Hospital. He was 85. He died of heart failure, according to his family. Born April 4, 1917 in Port Chester, N.Y., he was a son of the late Frank Garr and Teresa Gianfrancesco Garr. Mr. Garr was raised and educated in Greenwich and was a longtime resident of Port Chester. He owned Garr's Bar & Grill in Port Chester and retired in 1980. He was an avid reader and enjoyed playing with his great-grandchildren. Mr. Garr is survived by his daughter, Linda Gonzalez of Stamford; a sister, Pauline Biase of Greenwich; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Rose Costa Garr; a son, Charles "Chuck" Garr; and a brother, Anthony Garr. There will be no calling hours. Lucy Harrison Garvey of Mamaroneck, N.Y., died Saturday, Nov. 2, at Cabrini Nursing Home in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. She was 93. She died of natural causes, according to her family. Born Jan. 9, 1909, in Ballina, County Mayo, Ireland, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Helen Harrison. Mrs. Garvey worked in sales at Saks Fifth Avenue in White Plains, N.Y., for 22 years. She was a communicant of St. Vito Church of Mamaroneck, where she sang in the choir. She enjoyed playing bridge and scrabble and was a member and past president of the Ancient Order of the Hibernians of Mamaroneck. She is survived by three sons, Michael Vincent Garvey of Stamford, Terrence Patrick Garvey of Tiverton, R.I., and Kevin Gerard Garvey of Coral Springs, Fla.; a daughter, Sheila Ann Bliss of Mamaroneck; and 20 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Patrick Garvey; a daughter, Helen Patricia Sullivan; and a son, Lawrence Eamon Garvey. Santa Gatto of Darien, a former Stamford resident, died Sunday, March 2 at Stamford Hospital. She was 73. She died of cancer, according to her family. Born Nov. 1, 1929, in Reggio Calabria, Italy, she was the daughter of the late George and Caterina Marando Silipo. Mrs. Gatta volunteered with the Connecticut Special Olympics. She was a member of St. John Church in Darien. She is survived by four sons, Pompeo G. Gatto of Orange, Gino Gatto and Thomas S. Gatto, both of Fairfield, and Adriano Gatto of Darien; a sister, Josephine Nati of Newburgh, N.Y.; six grandchildren; two nieces and two nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Salvatore Gatto. Margaret Veronica "Ronnie" Gelston of Staten Island, N.Y., a homemaker, died Monday, Aug. 11, at Sea View Nursing Home in Staten Island. She was 90. She died of Alzheimer's disease, according to her family. Born Sept. 7, 1912, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late John and Margaret Cairns. Mrs. Gelston was raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., and lived most of her life there. She graduated from Pratt Institute. She worked for years with her husband, the late Arthur A. Gelston, managing the Brighton Beach Baths in Brooklyn, and was a longtime volunteer and then employee of the Girl Scout Council of New York. As a volunteer, she was a troop leader and then a trainer of troop leaders. As an employee, she was the council's trainer and manager of the trainers of troop leaders. She was active in the Staten Island AARP, serving as chapter president from 1982 to 1983. She also was a member of the board of directors for several years. She was given an award in 1991 for her work with the AARP by the Staten Island Inter-Agency Council for the Aging. She was an active parishioner of St. Patrick's Church in Staten Island, where she sang in the senior choir, and she was a longtime member and past president of the church's Seniors' Club. In her work with senior groups, she published newsletters and organized trips to local and global destinations. Her final contribution was as a volunteer in the Senior Day Care Center at the Eger Senior Day Care Center in Staten Island. She is survived by a son, Arthur A. Gelston Jr. of Stamford; a daughter, Veronica Patricia Regan of Staten Island; a brother, William J. Cairns of Whiting, N.J.; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Robert E. Cairns. Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today, Aug. 14, at Hanley Funeral Home, 60 New Dorp Lane, Staten Island. Donna Lee Genekerell of Norwalk, a Stamford Hospital employee, died Monday, June 21, at home. She was 49. She died of cardiac arrest, according to her family. Born March 17, 1955, in Norwalk, she was the daughter of James E. Farley of Norwalk and the late Judy Stoots Farley. Ms. Genekerell worked as an X-ray technician for 30 years at Stamford Hospital. In addition to her father, she is survived by a son, Michael Genekerell of Banksville, N.Y.; two brothers, Kevin Farley of Atlanta and Mark Farley of Norwalk; and two nephews. Angelo A. Gentile, a longtime Stamford resident and retired tailor, died Thursday, Nov. 21, at Stamford Hospital. He was 82. He died of cardiopulmonary arrest, according to his family. Born Feb. 2, 1920, in Arena, Italy, he was a son of the late Michele and Maria Antonia Gentile. Mr. Gentile immigrated to the United States in 1936 and was a Stamford resident for the past 50 years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church and the Lega-Arena-Dasa Society of Stamford. He was a retired tailor, having worked for Lord & Taylor in Stamford. He is survived by a daughter, Maria Antonia Williams of Stamford; a son, Michael Gentile of Stamford; a sister, Rose Tassone of Stamford; and a granddaughter. He was predeceased by his wife, Teresina Megale Gentile, in 1974; and two brothers, Anello Gentile and Francesco Gentile. Calling hours will be 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, at the Nicholas F. Mr. Gerace is survived by his wife, Francesca Vartuli Gerace of Liverpool; two sons, Michael Gerace of Liverpool and Frank Gerace of Liverpool; a daughter, Cathy Papallo of Liverpool; two brothers, Francesco Gerace of Liverpool and Domenico Gerace of Bayonne, N.J.; six sisters, Maria Daniele of Stamford, Rachele Vartuli of Italy, Raffaela Megale of New Jersey, Teresa Stramandinoli of Italy, Antonia Siciliano of Australia and Margherita Figliuzzi of Italy; and five grandchildren. Donald J. Gerbasi, a lifelong Stamford resident and a retired furniture salesman, died, Monday, Sept. 1 at his home. He was 66. He died of cardiac arrest, according to his family. Born Dec. 26, 1936, in Stamford, he was a son of the late John and Carmella Nardozza Gerbasi. Mr. Gerbasi worked as a furniture salesman for the family business. He is survived by two sons, Donald I. Gerbasi of Ambler, Pa. and Darren M. Gerbasi of Stamford; a brother, John Gerbasi of Norwalk; and his former wife, Barbara Itri of Stamford. There will be no calling hours. Vivian L. Geter of Altadena, Calif., died Sunday, Sept. 28, at her home. She was 59. She died of cancer, according to her family. Born Oct. 22, 1943, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was a daughter of Gloria McAlister and the late Peter McAlister. Mrs. Geter graduated with honors from Cathedral High School in New York City. She went on to work in the insurance industry in New York City. She moved to Los Angeles in 1968, where she began working in the accounting division of Western Airlines. She transferred to become a flight attendant and continued in the position when Western Airlines merged with Delta Airlines. She later was promoted to flight coordinator. Mrs. Geter was chosen by Delta Airlines to serve as the initial torch bearer for the 1996 Olympics, a run which began in Athens, Greece. At age 10, she began roller-skating, a hobby that she pursued until recently. An avid baker, she also enjoyed designing, baking and decorating unusual cakes. She later turned the hobby into a thriving business out of her home. Mrs. Geter is survived by her husband, Ralph A. Geter Sr. of Altadena, a retired sergeant with the Stamford Police Department; a stepson, Ralph A. Geter, Jr. of Norwalk; a stepdaughter, Gina Renee Davis of Norwalk; two sisters, Dolores Ware of California and Star Hunter of Hawaii; a brother, Ronald McAlister; five grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Wayne Gibbons, of Rowayton and Hilton Head Island, S.C., died Thursday, June 5, at his home in Rowayton. He was 62. He died of prostate cancer, according to his family. Born Nov. 6, 1940, in St. Catherines, Ontario, Canada, he was the son of the late William and Gladys Gibbons. He moved to Darien in 1979 and relocated to Rowayton three years ago. Known to his friends as "Gibby," Mr. Gibbons graduated summa cum laude in 1963 from Clarkson College, where he was president of the Theta Chi Fraternity and member of the Phalanx Society. From 1961 to 1963, he was the starting goalie for the Golden Knights hockey team, which was the NCAA runner-up team in 1962. After graduation, he was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks, but declined to pursue a career in the NHL. Instead, he began an accounting career with Earnst & Earnst. In 1965, he earned his master's degree in business administration from Indiana University. He then joined General Foods Corporation in a management position. From 1967 to 1977, he was vice president for Royal Crown Cola Company in Columbus, Ga. In 1978, he joined the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of New York as executive vice president responsible for sales and marketing. He served until 1987, when the company was bought by the Coca-Cola Company of Atlanta, Ga. In the fall of 1987, Mr. Gibbons and other former executives at Coca-Cola Bottling Company of New York formed a business partnership to purchase two retail wine and spirit stores named Super Discount in Fairfield. Until his death, he served as president of the partnership. Mr. Gibbons was a member of the Country Club of Darien and the Long Cove Club of Hilton Head Island. He attended Noroton Presbyterian Church in Darien. He is survived by his wife, Carol Gibbons of Rowayton; two sons, Bill Gibbons of Wilmington, Del., and Brent Gibbons of Greenwich; two daughters, Debbie Wilson of Stamford and Lori Gibbons of Rowayton; a sister, Janice Pay of Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada; and two granddaughters. No calling hours are planned. A celebration of his life will be at 1 p.m., Tuesday, June 10, at Noroton Presbyterian Church, 2011 Post Road, Darien. Burial will be private. W. Robert Gill

W. Robert Gill, a lifelong Stamford resident and a former member of the Greenwich Police Department, died Thursday, Dec. 11, at home. He was 72. He died of cardiac arrest, according to his family. Born March 16, 1931, in Stamford, he was the son of the late William Patrick Gill and Georgine Gill Wexler. Mr. Gill was a graduate of Stamford High School in 1949. Shortly afterwards, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps were he served for four years, from 1950 to 1954. He was a combat veteran of the Korean War and received numerous medals including the Purple Heart in 1953. He also received the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal (USMC), the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation. Mr. Gill was meritoriously promoted on the battlefield to the rank of staff Sergeant. He was a member of the Greenwich Police Department and retired as a detective after 24 years. Mr. Gill was then employed by Conoco Oil Co., ABB and SICA Electric in New York City. He was a member of the Retired Police Association of Greenwich, VFW Springdale Post #9617, the Belltown Fire Department, past president and treasurer of the Fairfield County Region of the Horseless Carriage Club and the Antique Truck Club of America. For 42 years, he attended the antique car show in Hershey, Pa. He also was a member of the Connecticut Antique Machine Association and the Military Order of the Purple Heart Homer Wise Division. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Katherine Lyons Gill of Stamford; a daughter, Pamela Gill Thomes of Trumbull; a son, Scott Michael Gill of Stamford; a sister, Georgine Gill Botticelli of Weston, Mass.; four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15, at Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory. A procession will leave the funeral home at 9:20 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, and then to St. Gabriel's Church, 914 Newfield Ave., Stamford, for a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery, Darien.

James L. "The Chief" Ginise of Bethel, a former resident of Stamford, Greenwich and Danbury, died Monday, April 14, at Danbury Hospital. He was 67. He died of pulmonary illness, according to his family. Born March 25, 1936, in Stamford, he was a son of Frances Sclafani Ginise of Stamford and the late James L. Ginise Sr. Mr. Ginise was raised and educated in Greenwich and lived there for more than 30 years. He moved to Danbury in the early 1970s, then to Bethel in 1985. He worked as a union steamfitter for 30 years in the Stamford and Bridgeport areas and was a member of Pipefitters Local No. 777. He also worked at the Millstone and Indian Point power plants. Mr. Ginise was a former member of the Amerigo Vespucci Lodge of Danbury. He loved animals and enjoyed creative masonry and sketching. Besides his mother, he is survived by three daughters, Joan G. Coprio of Stamford, Joyce Ginise of Norwich and Jacki Piskura of New Milford; one brother, Michael Ginise of Greenwich; three grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his former wife and friend, Joan A. Ginise. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at a time to be announced. There are no calling hours. Joseph R. Girard of Stamford, a former longtime Greenwich resident and restaurateur, died Thursday, Jan. 1, at Greenwich Hospital. He was 67. He died of cancer, according to his family. Born July 14, 1936, in Bridgeport, he was a son of the late Edmond and Maria Girard. Mr. Girard was owner and operator of the former Cos Cob Restaurant for 20 years. He also worked at Pitney Bowes as a supervisor in the food service division for many years. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Mr. Girard is survived by his wife, Santa M. Gangi Girard of Stamford; a son, Michael Girard of Milford; a brother, Raymond Girard of Beverly Hills, Fla.; a sister, Marcella LaRue of Orange; and a grandson. He was predeceased by five brothers, Robert Girard, Russell Girard, Roland Girard, Richard Girard and Roger Girard. John V. Golba, a longtime Darien resident and retired field engineer, died Thursday, April 10, at Kindred Hospital in St. Petersburg, Fla. He was 81. He died of heart disease, according to his family. Born Feb. 17, 1922, in Greenwich, he was the son of the late Michael and Eva Schlink Golba. Mr. Golba lived in Darien for 30 years. Previously, he had lived in Greenwich for 50 years. He was a retired field engineer for Connecticut Light & Power in the Greenwich area. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of AARP and St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Rye Brook, N.Y. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marion J. Golba of Darien; and a sister, Frances Whitney of Treasurer Island, Fla. and Bridgeport. Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, at Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Putnam cemeteryin Greenwich.

Benjamin Alexander Gold, a Stamford resident, died Thursday, Dec. 5, at Stamford Hospital. He was 13. He died from a heart condition, according to his family. Born Jan. 17, 1989, at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Stamford, he was the son of Ronald and Anna Gold of Stamford. Benjamin played soccer in the Stamford Youth Soccer League, baseball in the Federal Little League, basketball in the Stamford Youth Basketball League and center on the Cloonan Bulldogs Varsity Football Team. He also played the drums in the Cloonan marching band. He celebrated his Bar Mitzvah on March 9. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his grandparents, Bernard and Lila Gold of Stamford; and many aunts, uncles and cousins in the Gold and Tarzia families. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Gabriel and Raffaella Tarzia; and his great-grandparents, Samuel and Yetta Hotz and Rose Gold. A funeral service will be 10 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, at Congregation Agudath Shalom, 301 Strawberry Hill Ave., Stamford. Burial will follow at Congregation Agudath Sholom Cemetery, West Hill Road, Stamford. Family and friends are invited to visit at the Gold home after the burial.
