December 3, 2002 Grace Gentile Macari of Lilburn, Ga., died Friday, Nov. 29, at the Peachtree Christian Hospice in Atlanta, Ga. She was 92. She died of natural causes, according to her family. Born Sept. 16, 1910, in Settefrate, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Emanuele and Gabriella Carella Gentile. Mrs. Macari was a homemaker. She is survived by a son, Gerard Macari of Spring Hill, Fla.; two daughters, Loretta Macari Gesimondo of Hauppauge, N.Y., and Rita Macari Boestfleisch of Lilburn, Ga.; a brother, Albert Gentile of Stamford; a sister, Ann Carriero of Stamford; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Luciano Macari. October 22, 2002 William "Fuzzy" Aundrea Mace, a Stamford resident for 36 years, died Sunday, Oct. 20, at Bridgeport Hospital. He was 48. He died of respiratory failure, according to his family. Born Oct. 15, 1954, in Cleveland, Tenn., he was the son of the late Horace Hanson and Sadie B. Mace. Mr. Mace worked as a truck driver for Finocchio Bros. of Stamford for eight years. He is survived by his wife, Jeannette McDonald-Mace of Stamford; a son, William Thomas Mace of Stamford; two aunts, the Rev. Gladys Goings and Mattie S. Strickland; and many other relatives. Calling hours will be 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, at Faith Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, 129 Grove St., Stamford. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. in the church. The Rev. September 24, 2003 Catherine E. Madden of New Milford, formerly of Stamford, died Monday, Sept. 22 at Candlewood Care Center in New Milford. She was 84. She died of complications from pneumonia, according to her family. Born Sept. 21, 1919, in Stamford, she was a daughter of the late Bartley and Rose Harrington. Mrs. Madden lived in Stamford for most of her life. She was a homemaker and private duty nurse's aide in the area and was a parishioner of St. John's Church in Darien. She is survived by two sons, William B. Madden of New Milford and Frank H. Madden of Ridgefield; a brother, Robert Harrington of Maine; two sisters, Virginia O'Neil and Eileen Hoyt, both of Stamford; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Madden was predeceased by her husband. Harry J. Madden; and a sister, Margaret Serafin. Calling hours will be 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25 at Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury. November 18, 2002 Dorothea Maguire, a lifelong Stamford resident, died Saturday, Nov. 16, at Stamford Hospital. She was 81. She died of natural causes, according to her family. Born Feb. 16, 1921, in Stamford, she was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Meehan Maguire. She worked as a receptionist for Electrolux in Greenwich for 43 years, until she retired. Ms. Maguire was active for many years in the YWCA in Stamford, the Catholic Daughters of America and the Rosary Society at St. Bridget's of Ireland Roman Catholic Church in Stamford. She is survived by a brother, John H. Maguire Jr. of Greenwich; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Thomas Maguire. December 19, 2003 Irene Magoteaux of Greenville, Ohio, a retired quality-control inspector, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, at Wayne Hospital in Greenville. She was 85. She died of natural causes, according to her family. Born Feb. 12, 1918, in Darke County, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Roy F. and Anna Mae Cable Anthony. Mrs. Magoteaux worked for 17 years as a quality control inspector with Corning Inc. in Greenville. She retired in 1976 and was a member of the Corning Retirees Club in Greenville. She was a lifelong resident of Greenville County. She was a parishioner of St. Mary's Church in Greenville and a member of its Rosary Altar Society. She also was a member of Greenville American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, the Women of the Moose Lodge 329 and the Happy Artist Group, all in Greenville. Mrs. Magoteaux was an avid NASCAR fan. She is survived by three sons, James E. Magoteaux and John B. Magoteaux, both of Greenville, and Ronald A. Magoteaux of Dayton, Ohio; three daughters, Evelyn T. Heindl of Pittsburgh, Ohio, Patricia A. Johnson of Greenville and Jane Drzyzga of Stamford; five brothers, Harold Anthony of Painter Creek, Ohio, Lester Anthony of Fitzgerald, Ga., Lloyd Anthony of Union City, Ohio, Bill Anthony of Union, Ohio, and Dale Anthony of Greenville; five sisters, Edith Hawkins and Lois Butts, both of Greenville, Thelma Goodpaster of Fairfield, Ohio, Roma Stump of Kenansville, Fla., and Wilma Reck of Rocky River, Ohio; 28 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Elder C. Magoteaux; two daughters, Mary Wanda Reck and Marianne Magoteaux; a brother, Robert Anthony; and a sister, Helen Crawford. November 4, 2002 Mildred A. Mainero of Wilmington, N.C., formerly of Stamford and Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., died Saturday, Nov. 2 at Mariner Health in Wilmington. She was 92. She died of natural causes, according to her family. Born Jan. 2, 1910 in Port Chester, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Anna Cianci Masilotti. Mrs. Mainero lived in Stamford most of her life. She moved to Stamford from Port Chester during World War II. She was an avid golfer who played at Hubbard Heightsin Stamford for many years. Her husband, the late Michael A. Mainero, worked as assistant golf pro for Round Hill Clubin Greenwich before becoming head golf pro at Wee Burn County Club in Darien. After his retirement, they both joined Burning Tree Country Club in Greenwich, where they became charter members. She is survived by a daughter, Grace Andrea of Wilmington, N.C.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. No services are planned. November 19, 2002 Ida Makler, a Stamford resident for five years, died Saturday, Nov. 16, at Stamford Hospital. She was 93. She died of natural causes, according to her family. Born Jan. 30, 1909, in Russia, she was a daughter of the late Fannie and Nachman Zawatzky. Mrs. Makler, a former resident of Brooklyn, N.Y., was a homemaker. She is survived by two daughters, Gloria Leibowitz of Forest Hills, N.Y., and Rosalie Makler of Stamford; and six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Louis Makler; three sisters, Rose Nayer, Ethel Zawatzky and Dora Boxer; and a brother, Louis Zawatzky. Burial was Sunday, Nov. 17, in Old Montefiori cemeteryin St. Albans, Queens, N.Y. Schwartz Bros.-Jeffer Memorial Chapels, 114-03 Queens Blvd., Forest Hills, N.Y., handled arrangements. February 14, 2003 Robert John Maloney of Wilton died Wednesday, Feb. 12, at Wilton Meadows. He was 76. He died of pneumonia, according to his family. Born Feb. 20, 1926, in Hartford, he was a son of William and Catherine Maloney. He lived in Wilton, Norwalk, Stamford and Darien. Mr. Maloney attended Weaver High School, Hartford Seminary and Hilyer College, all in Hartford. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II in the Marshall Islands. He worked in the reinsurance industry for 30 years, and later in real estate. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Roberta Hartt Maloney of Wilton; a daughter, Lynnette Schwendner of Wilton; a brother, Edward Maloney of Colchester; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his daughter, Laverne Maloney; his sister, Rita Maloney Claffey; and a brother, William Maloney. November 16, 2003 Philip Maltese, a retired mason who lived in West Haven, died Saturday, Nov. 15, at the Connecticut Hospice in Branford. He was 80. He died of lymphoma, according to his family. Born May 16, 1923 in New Haven, he was the son of the late Mario and Giovanna Bua Maltese. Mr. Maltese served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a longtime member of the Bricklayers & Masons Local No. 1. He was an enthusiastic fan of the New York Yankees and of the University of Connecticut Men's and Women's basketball teams. He is survived by his wife, Mary D'Amico Maltese of West Haven; a daughter, Johanna Inzitari of Stamford; a son Philip Maltese of Guilford; two brothers, Salvatore Maltese of West Haven and Rosario Maltese of Boca Raton, Fla;. a sister, Grace Torino of West Haven; three grandsons; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his four brothers, Domenic Maltese, Ignazio Maltese, Joseph Maltese and Anthony Maltese; and a sister, Anna Perrotti. February 12, 2003 Susie Cordova Mancini of DeBary, Fla., a retired machine operator, died Monday, Feb. 10, at Stamford Hospital. She was 83. She died of natural causes, according to her family. Born Oct. 6, 1919, in Stamford, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Josephine Smeriglio Cordova. Mrs. Mancini lived in Stamford for more than 80 years. She was a retired machine operator, having worked for many years at Norma Hoffman, now FAG Bearing Co., formerly in Stamford. She was a member of AFL-CIO Machinist Union and AARP. She was a former member of Sacred Heart Church in Stamford. She is survived by two daughters, Sandra Russo Andronaco and Nancy Cassell, both of DeBary; a sister, Rose Cordova of Stamford; a brother, Anthony Cordova of Stamford; three grandsons; a great-granddaughter; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Peter Russo; her second husband, Harry Mancini Sr.; a daughter, Barbara Mancini Tiberio; and two sisters, Mary Cantillo and Anna Walworth. February 26, 2003 Sophie F. Mancusi of Stamford died Monday, Feb. 24, at the Tandet Center for Continuing Care in Stamford. She was 92. She died of natural causes, according to her family. Born Nov. 30, 1910, in Wallingford, she was a daughter of the late Jacob and Helen Kusack Ginter. Mrs. Mancusi lived in Stamford for many years. She was a homemaker. She is survived by a son, Joseph P. Mancusi of Greenwich; a daughter, Helen T. Fuda of Stamford; three brothers, Jacob Ginter and Walter Ginter, both of Stamford, and Joseph Ginter of Greenwich; two sisters, Anne Chester and Katherine Markey, both of Stamford; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson. She was predeceased by her husband, Leonard J. Mancusi; and a daughter, Angela Milton-Catino. There will be no calling hours. February 10, 2003 Viktor Manevich of Stamford, a former space engineer, died Saturday, Feb. 8, at home. He was 56. He died of congestive heart failure, according to his family. Born April 12, 1946, in Moscow, Russia, he was the son of Boris and Mary Weinstein Manevich. Before moving to Stamford about 12 years ago, he lived in Moscow, where he worked at the Russian space agency. He helped build the Space Station Mir, his family said. Mr. Manevich was the field manager for Superior Home Services in Stamford. He is survived by his wife, Vera Manevich of Stamford; a son, Slava Manevich of Trumbull; a stepdaughter, Mary Mitina of Stamford; a stepson, Andrew Mitin of Stamford; a sister, Luba Manevich of Haifa, Israel; and two grandchildren. November 21, 2002 Joseph J. Manka, a lifelong Greenwich resident and former fire chief, died Tuesday, Nov. 19, at Greenwich Hospital. He was 73. He died of heart failure, according to his family. Born Sept. 18, 1929, in Greenwich, he was a son of the late Joseph Manka and Mary Dianis Manka. Mr. Manka retired from the Greenwich Department of Parks and Recreation. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard USS Missouri in World War II and was present at the signing of the peace treaty. He was a member of the Sokol Club and a former gymnast. Mr. Manka volunteered for 50 years and was a fire chief at the East Port Chester Volunteer Fire Department, now the Byram Volunteer Fire Department. He received a proclamation from Gov. John Rowland for his service, who declared Oct. 1, 2001, Joseph Manka Day in Connecticut. Mr. Manka helped recruit teenagers to volunteer at the fire department. He saved three lives at a fire in Gullivers, a former disco club in Port Chester, N.Y., and received an award for his service. He is survived by his wife, Ann Manka of Greenwich; a daughter, Joann Manka of Greenwich; a son, Jeffrey Manka of Stamford; a sister, Alma Lally of Greenwich; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. December 20, 2002 Patrick William Mappa, a house painter and Norwalk resident for 20 years, died Wednesday, Dec. 18, at the Richard L. Rosenthal Hospice Residence in Stamford. He was 49. He died of cancer, according to his family. Born April 13, 1953, in Greenwich, he was the son of Pasquale Mappa of Norwalk and the late Mary Ann Montimurro Mappa. Mr. Mappa graduated from Greenwich High School in 1970. He enjoyed cooking, breeding Pekinese dogs and was an avid New York Mets fan. In addition to his father, Mr. Mappa is survived by a sister, Hilary Caldwell of Norwalk; one niece and one nephew. There will be no calling hours. Karen C. Mappa September 14, 2003 Karen Coville Mappa, a Stamford resident, died Thursday, Sept. 11, at home. She was 50. She died of cancer, according to her family. Born Nov. 19, 1952, in Greenwich, she was a daughter of William W. and Rina Jacob Coville, both of Stamford. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Mappa is survived by her sister, Jean Coville Dawe of Newtown; and a nephew. She was predeceased by her husband, Patrick William Mappa. Serivces will be private. June 8, 2003 Ernest Collins Marsh Jr., a Greenwich resident, died Wednesday, June 4, at The Nathaniel Witherell nursing home in Greenwich. He was 86. He died of congestive heart failure, according to his family. Born Dec. 6, 1916, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late Dorothy Dreyer and Ernest Collins Marsh Sr. Mr. Marsh attended Brunswick School and graduated from Greenwich High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Marsh worked as a sales manager for Regis Paper Co. in New York City. He was an avid sailor and a member of the Old Greenwich Boat Club. He could often be seen sailing his Star Class sailboat in Greenwich Cove and Long Island Sound. He was a longtime member of the Sound Beach Volunteer Fire Department. Later, he became its chief of patrol. Mr. Marsh is survived by two sons, Ernest Collins Marsh III of Stamford and Elliott Marsh of Ashfield, Mass.; a daughter, Nina R. Whitcomb of Redding; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson. He was predeceased by his wife, Nina Burke Marsh. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 13, at First Congregational Church, 108 Sound Beach Ave., Old Greenwich. Burial will follow in First Congregational Church Cemetery. October 26, 2003 Mary Cregan Marshall, a homemaker and longtime Stamford resident, died Thursday, Oct. 23, at Stamford Hospital. She was 90. She died of pneumonia, according to her family. Born July 24, 1913, in New York City, she was a daughter of the late James and Gertrude Cotter Cregan. Mrs. Marshall lived in Stamford for 45 years. She was a member of St. Mary's Church in Stamford and the rosary society. She is survived by two daughters, Elaine Marshall and Kathleen Marshall, both of Stamford; a son, Robert Marshall of Stamford; a sister, Teresa Policastro of Suwanee, Ga.; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Marshall was predeceased by her husband, George T. Marshall; and three brothers, John Cregan, James Cregan and William Cregan. Gloria L. Martin October 16, 2003 Gloria L. Martin of Bethel, a Greenwich native, died Tuesday, Oct. 14, at the Laurel Wood Nursing Home in Ridgefield. She was 74. The cause of her death is unknown pending an autopsy, according to her family. Born Dec. 5, 1928, in Greenwich, she was a daughter of the late Christopher and Adele Carpenter Miles. Mrs. Martin was a partner in the Tea and Sympathy tea shop in Bethel. She was raised in Greenwich and graduated from Greenwich High School. She worked at Union Trust Bank in Stamford before she became a partner in the tea shop. She was active in the Republican Party throughout her years as a Bethel resident, and was a parishioner of St. Thomas Episcopal Church. Mrs. Martin is survived by two sons, Robert A. Martin and Bruce H. Martin, both of Bethel; three brothers, Christopher Miles of New Milford, Donald Miles of Florida and Robert Miles of Bethel; three sisters, Jean Koproski of Stamford, and Eleanor Scofield and Dinah White, both of Greenwich; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. February 16, 2003 Gerald E. Martin Sr. of Danbury died Friday, Feb. 14, at Danbury Hospital. He was 93. He died of natural causes, according to his family. Born March 7, 1909, in Ossining, N.Y., he was the son of the late Philip and Elizabeth Jane Connors Martin. Mr. Martin was a graduate of Stamford High School. He lived in Stamford for most of his life. He lived in Fairfield for about 15 years, before moving to Danbury in 2000. Before retiring, he worked as a lawn mower engine mechanic at Stateline Machine Co., formerly in Greenwich. He is survived by two sons, Gerald E. Martin Jr. of Danbury and Wells P. Martin of Stamford; a sister, Lois Northrop of Chandler, Ariz.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Emma Martin; and a daughter, Joan A. Bennett. November 20, 2002 Antoinette Martinelli, of Naples, Fla., died Saturday, Nov. 16, at Manor Care Nursing Home of Lely Palms in Naples. She was 95. She died of natural causes, according to her family. Born March 30, 1907, in New York City, she was a daughter of the late Rocco and Anna Calabrese Lagano. Mrs. Martinelli was a resident of Stamford for many years until moving to Naples in 1996. She is survived by a son, Eugene "Gene" Martinelli of Norwalk; two brothers, Joseph Lagano of Port Chester, N.Y., and Vincent Lagano of Delray Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Amelia Grillo of Vineland, N.J., and Anita Fox of Port Chester; and two granddaughters and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Dominick Martinelli; and a son, Frank Martinelli. Calling hours will be 5 to 7 p.m. today, Nov. 20, at Johnson-Pittman Funeral and Cremation Services, 4424 E. Tamiami Trail, Naples. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, at St. Peter the Apostle Church, 5130 Rattlesnake Hammock Road, Naples. Entombment will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, at Our Lady Queen of Heaven cemeteryin North Fort Lauderdale, Fla. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Building Fund of St. Peter the Apostle Church, 5130 Rattlesnake Hammock Road, Naples, FL 34113.

February 17, 2003 Louise Bria Marzullo of Laguna Niguel, Calif., a former Greenwich resident, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, at Saddle Back Medical Center in California. She was 93. She died of natural causes, according to her family. Born Jan. 25, 1910, in Greenwich, Mrs. Marzullo was a daughter of the late Peter and Theresa Infante Bria. She was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family. Mrs. Marzullo is survived by her daughter, Laura Yealdhall of Laguna Niguel; two sons, Louis Marzullo of Palm Harbor, Fla., and Joseph Marzullo of Greenwich; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph A. Marzullo, who died in 1972; three brothers, Pat Bria, Michael Bria and Cy Bria; and three sisters, Mary Bria, Rose Orrico and Helen Greto. Calling hours will be 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, at Castiglione Funeral Home, 134 Hamilton Ave., Greenwich. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Greenwich. Burial will follow in St. Mary's cemeteryin Greenwich.
