Cathy Elizabeth Studley, a registered nurse and resident of Exeter, R.I., died Thursday, Nov. 28, at Miriam Hospital in Providence, R.I. She was 47. She died after a 16-year battle with breast cancer, according to her family. Born Aug. 9, 1955, in Warwick, R.I., she was a daughter of the late George E. and Helen D. Gileau Bourque. She worked at Miriam Hospital for 26 years, most recently as a nurse manager. Mrs. Studley graduated from the Community College of Rhode Island. She earned her bachelor's degree from Rhode Island College, and received her master's degree in nursing from the University of Rhode Island. She lived in Narragansett, R.I., and Coventry, R.I., before moving to Exeter nine years ago. She is survived by her husband, Douglas Studley of Exeter, originally of Stamford; a stepson, Matthew Studley of Johnston, R.I., and a stepdaughter, Kristen Studley of West Warwick, R.I.; a brother, George Bourque Jr. of Scituate, R.I. and three sisters, Beverly Thomas of Orleans, Mass., Leanne Butcher of North Kingstown, R.I. and Marcia Moreno of Norfolk, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1, at the Robert A. Iannotti & Sons Funeral Home, 415 Washington St., Coventry. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 2, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Susan G. Barbara Ann McAdams Stunzi of Carlsbad, Calif., a former Darien resident, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, at the Brighton Gardens nursing home in Carlsbad. She was 79. She died of natural causes, according to her family. Born May 1, 1924, in Pasadena, Calif., she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Anna Muriel McAdams. Mrs. Stunzi was a homemaker who lived in Darien and Corona Del Mar, Calif., before settling in Carlsbad in 1999. After graduating from Beverly Hills High School, Mrs. Stunzi was briefly under contract to director Howard Hawks and modeled for John Robert Powers in New York City. She was married to Jacques R. Stunzi before settling in Darien, where she raised four children. She enjoyed spending time with her family and many friends in Darien and California. She is survived by a daughter, Annelise Ulrich of Orange; two sons, Paul F. Stunzi of Marblehead, Mass., and Eric C. Stunzi of Carlsbad; and eight grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Jacques R. Stunzi; and a son, Jacques R. Stunzi Jr. No services yet are planned.

Olga Coba Suchenski

Olga Coba Suchenski, a longtime Bridgeport resident and a cosmetics saleswoman, died Thursday, Jan. 1, at home. She was 90. She died of natural causes, according to her family. Born April 27, 1913, in New York City, she was a daughter of the late Dimitri and Sophie Harbusz Coba. Mrs. Suchenski lived in Bridgeport for more than 75 years. She was a cosmetics saleslady for Skydels and various pharmaceutical stores in the area. She was a member of St. Michael's Senior Citizens in Bridgeport and the Ladies Guild. Mrs. Suchenski is survived by two sons, Stanley Suchenski of Shelton and Dr. Michael Suchenski of Stamford; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. today, Jan. 2, at the Commerce Hill-Radozycki Funeral Home, 4798 Main St., Bridgeport. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 310 Pulaski St., Bridgeport. Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Bridgeport.

Thomas Marshall Sullivan of Lexington, Ky., died Friday, Feb. 7, at home. He was 72. He died of a heart attack, according to his family. Born July 14, 1930, in Glens Falls, N.Y., he was the son of the late Sylvester C. and Mary Ethel Jordan Sullivan. He graduated from St. Mary's High School in Hudson Falls, N.Y., and in 1953 earned a bachelor's degree in management engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. For his work as the company commander in the railroad support battalion, he earned the rank of first lieutenant and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service ribbon. When he returned to the United States in 1953, he joined IBM in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., as a management trainee. When he retired from the company in 1990, he was a manager of international manufacturing operations in Lexington. Mr. Sullivan was a member of the Lexington-Fayette County merger task force in 1973, and a member of the United Way of the Bluegrass board of directors from 1983 to 1988. He was the organization's president from 1987 to 1988. He was a parishioner and usher for many years at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Lexington. He was an avid University of Kentucky Wildcat basketball fan, loved books and enjoyed meeting fellow IBM retirees for lunch. Mr. Sullivan is survived by a son, Thomas S. Sullivan of Greensboro, N.C.; three daughters, Mary S. McMorrow of Stamford, Julia S. Dahlgren and Kathleen Cashen, both of Louisville, Ky.; two sisters, Kathleen Bernard of Sherborn, Mass., and Sylvia Harvey of Queensbury, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 32 years, Esther Stickney Sullivan; and two brothers, William C. Sullivan and Patrick J. Sullivan. Calling hours will be 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today, Feb. 10, at the W.R. Milward Mortuary-Southland, 391 Southland Drive, Lexington. A wake service will be at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, at Cathedral of Christ the King, 299 Colony Blvd., Lexington. The Rev. Paul Prabell will officiate. Anna Marie Summa of Derby, a former co-owner of Nick's Liquor Store in Stamford, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, at home. She was 80. She died of natural causes, according to her family. Born July 18, 1922, in Stamford, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Adeline Capazzo Accurso. Mrs. Summa was co-owner and operator of Nick's Liquor Store, formerly on Stillwater Avenue, Stamford, until retiring in 1987. She was a Derby resident for the past 15 years. She is survived by two sons, Nicholas F. Summa of Norwalk and Frank J. Summa of Ansonia; a sister, Marie Deragon of Stamford; and five grandchildren and a great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband, Nicholas W. Summa. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, at Sacred Heart Church, 37 Schuyler Ave., Stamford. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, 25 Camp Ave., Darien. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. Lacerenza Funeral Home, 8 Schuyler Ave., Stamford, is handling arrangements.

Scott T. Sutton, a 25-year resident of New York City and a former Darien resident, died Friday, Dec. 20, at the Richard L. Rosenthal Hospice Residence at Stamford Hospital. He was 53. He died of cancer, according to his family. Born Feb. 15, 1949, in Cincinnati, Ohio, he was the son of Thomas C. and Jayne A. Sutton of Darien. Mr. Sutton graduated from Transylvania University in Lexington, Ky. He was the retired owner of Norrelcom of Long Island. He was a longtime member and former president of the Campfire Club of America, Explorers Club, Boone & Crockett Club, Ducks Unlimited, National Rifle Association, Woodway Gun Club and the Blue Hill Troop. He was an avid outdoorsman, explorer and fisherman. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Leslie L. Sutton of Darien. There are no calling hours. A prayer service will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road Darien. The Rev. Michael Madden of St. John Church in Darien will officiate. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Carl and Dorothy Bennett Cancer Center or the Richard L. John I. Suydam

John I. Suydam of New Canaan, a retired jewelry sales representative, died Thursday, Oct. 2, at Waveny Care Center in New Canaan. He was 77. He died of heart failure, according to his family. Born Jan. 29, 1926, in Jamaica, N.Y., he was the son of the late Irving and Margaret Hyde Suydam. Mr. Suydam worked for Girard Perregaux Watch Co. in New York City as a jewelry sales representative until he retired in 1983. He worked in the industry for more than 40 years. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Suydam was a member of the Senior Men's Group of New Canaan and the Brotherhood of Traveling Jewelers. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor P. Sudyam of New Canaan; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 3, at Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main St., New Canaan. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, New Canaan. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Watertown. Dr. Bernard Dave Svedlow of Boynton Beach, Fla., formerly of Stamford, died Monday, Sept. 1, in the West Palm Beach Veterans Hospital in Florida. He was 89. He died of natural causes, according to his family. Born July 4, 1914, in New York City, he was the son of the late Harry and Helen Svedlow. Dr. Svedlow attended New York University and received his medical degree from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He served as a captain in the U.S. Army during World War II, receiving the Purple Heart during action in the North African campaign. He went on to establish an internal medicine practice in Stamford and served on the medical staff of Stamford Hospital. He retired in 1984. In 1994, he moved to Boynton Beach, Fla. Dr. Svedlow is survived by his wife, Shirley Svedlow of Boynton Beach; two sons, Dr. Gerald Svedlow of Santa Barbara, Calif. and Dr. Andrew Svedlow of Rock Hill, S.C.; and seven grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Donald Svedlow. Services will be 11:15 a.m. today, Sept. 3, at Riverside-Gordon Memorial Chapel, 7205 Atlantic Ave., Del Ray, Fla. Burial will follow in Eternal Light Cemetery, Boynton Beach. Shiva will sit following services until Saturday, Sept. 6 at 55-90 Parkwalk Circle, Boynton Beach.

Alvah W. "Al" Swain, a Stamford resident and retired regional manager for White Tower-Tom Brock Corp., died Monday, Dec. 16, at the Richard L. Rosenthal Hospice Residence at Stamford Hospital. He was 90. He died of complications associated with encephalitis, according to his family. Born Nov. 23, 1912, in Meredith, N.H., he was the son of the late Charles A. Swain and Louise B. Swain. Mr. Swain was president and valedictorian of his 1931 graduating class at Meredith High School in Meredith, N.H. He went on to graduate with honors from the University of New Hampshire in Durham in 1935, where he was president of Theta Kappa Phi Fraternity, served office terms on two other scholastic societies and won the Granite Art Award. He served in the U.S. Army for six years, achieving the rank of lieutenant colonel. During World War II, he was the battalion commander of the 977th Anti-Aircraft Artillery, Automatic Weapons Battalion, in Iceland. Mr. Swain lived in Stamford for the last 50 years. He was regional manager for White Tower-Tom Brock Corp. in Stamford for 40 years. He was also a volunteer for ARI of CT., The Salvation Army and numerous fund raising organizations. He associate produced and supported local theater companies and was on the board of the German-American Cultural Club in Stamford. He is survived by a son, Scott Harris of Los Angeles, Calif.; a daughter, Pamela Harris of Stamford; and three grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Denise Swain. A graveside service was held Tuesday, Dec. 17, in Cottsville, Pa. Memorial donations may be made to ARI of CT, 174 Richmond Hill Ave., Stamford, CT 06902. Melvaine Funeral Home, 3711 Midvale Ave., Philadelphia, Pa., handled the arrangements.

Frances J. Swinford, a Darien resident, died Wednesday, Nov. 6, at home. She was 85. She died of complications from diabetes, according to her family. Born Sept. 19, 1917, in Stamford, she was a daughter of the late Wladislaw and Anna Tomczyk Gudz. Mrs. Swinford was a homemaker. She attended Stamford Public Schools, furthered her education in business at the Katherine Gibbs School. She enjoyed gardening, collecting antiques and music. She was a communicant of Holy Name of Jesus Church in Stamford. She is survived by a daughter, Sharon Gunzel of Darien; two sisters, Mary Oscar and Gladys "Gigi" Koproski, both of Stamford; a granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Frederick H. Swinford. Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. today, Nov. 8, at Wojciechowski-Ambassador Funeral Chapels Inc., 9 Pulaski St., Stamford. Charles W. Sykes, a longtime Stamford resident, died Friday, Sept. 19, at Stamford Hospital. He was 73. He died of cardiac arrest, according to his family. Born July 22, 1930 in DeLand, Fla., he was the son of the late Whelan and Annie Meeker Sykes. Mr. Sykes attended Stetson University in DeLand, Fla. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. After the war, he pursued a career in radio and television as a newscaster and meteorologist. Mr. Sykes is survived by his companion, Rita Cherevas of Stamford; two daughters, Cathy Sykes of New City, N.Y., and Jennifer Erday of Jersey City, N.J.; a son, Christopher Sykes of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a sister, Virginia Gallant of Casselberry, Fla.; a half brother, Carl Strozier of Camarillo, Calif.; and several grandchildren. Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St., Stamford. A service will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 24, at the funeral home.
