George J. Vlamis, a retired teacher and a lifelong Stamford resident, died Saturday, April 19, at Stamford Hospital. He was 72. He died of multiple sclerosis, according to his family. Born Sept. 23, 1930, in Stamford, he was the son of Athena Condos Vlamis of Stamford and the late John Vlamis. Mr. Vlamis served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He graduated from Stamford High School and received a bachelor's degree in education. He received a master's degree in administrative supervision from Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven. Mr. Vlamis was a teacher for the Board of Education in Greenwich for 20 years. He was a member of the Church of the Archangels in Stamford. Mr. Vlamis was a volunteer firefighter for the Springdale Fire Department for 25 years and served as the organization's president from 1970 to 1972. He was a justice of the peace, and from 1966 to 1974 served on the Republican Town Committee in Stamford. He served on the Board of Education and the Board of Representatives, both in Stamford. For most of his life, Mr. Vlamis lived in the Springdale section of Stamford, where he owned the Springdale Stationary Store. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his daughter, Diana Vlamis Koster of Reading, Mass.; three sons, John G. Vlamis of Stamford, G. Paul Vlamis of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Greg G. Vlamis of San Jose, Calif.; two sisters, Clementine Grimaldi of Northridge, Calif., and Kiki Herbert of Stamford; and a grandson. Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, April 23, with a 7 p.m. service at Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford. A procession will leave the funeral home at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, April 24, and head to the Church of the Archangels, 1234 Bedford St., Stamford, for a service at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Fairfield Memorial Park, Oaklawn Avenue, Stamford. Hugo H. Vogt, a longtime Stamford resident and retired equipment operator, died Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Community Hospital of New Port Ritchie, Fla. He was 69. He died of cancer, according to his family. Born April 16, 1933, in Germany, he was the son of the late Walter and Emma Schoening Strohfeld. Mr. Vogt served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired as an equipment operator for the city of Stamford. Mr. Vogt was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Stamford. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, the Lions Club and the Sons of Herman, all in Stamford. He was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary in Florida. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Lentz Vogt of Stamford; two sons, Stephen Vogt of Hamburg, N.J., and Carl Vogt of Stamford; a brother, Walter Strohfeld of Cape Cod, Mass.; two granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Ronald H. Vogt. Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, at Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien. Anthony "Babe" Vozzella, a lifelong Stamford resident, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, at Stamford Hospital. He was 59. The cause of death was cancer, according to his family. Born Sept. 5, 1943, in Stamford, he was the son of the late Manuel and Rose Barbone Vozzella. Mr. Vozzella was a transportation driver having worked for Edgehill Assisted Living in Stamford. He was a member of St. Mary's Church in Stamford and a member of the Gravinese Society in Stamford. He was an avid golfer and New York Yankees fan and devoted to his work and family.Mr. Vozzella is survived by his wife of 37 years, Linda A. DeNicola Vozzella of Stamford; a daughter, Vickie Lynn Serricchio of Stamford; two sons, Anthony V. Vozzella Jr. and Mark C. Vozzella, both of Stamford; a sister, Justine LaPolice of Stamford; and a brother, Aleck Vozzella of Stamford; five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Edward Wadhams of Darien, a former custodian for the Darien Board of Education, died Wednesday, July 31, at Stamford Hospital. He was 77. He died of natural causes, according to his family. Born March 22, 1925, in Boston, Mass., he was the son of the late Daniel and Lila Grant Wadhams. Mr. Wadhams was a World War II veteran serving the U.S. Army. He worked for the Darien Board of Education for 36 years before retiring in 1988. He was a member of the New Haven Railroad Historical and Technical Association, Stamford Model Railroad Club, Branford Electric Railway Association, Shoreline Trolley Museum, Danbury Railway Museum, Western Connecticut Chapter of National Railway Society and the Stamford Historical Society. He is survived by his wife, Lucy Gerardi Wadhams of Darien. There are no calling hours. A funeral service and interment will be private. George J. Wallace of Norwalk, a retired salesman, died Thursday, Dec. 12 at Norwalk Hospital. He was 83. He died of heart failure, according to his family. Born July 14, 1919 in Staten Island, N.Y., he was the son of the late George Ruthven and Agnes Burns Wallace. Mr. Wallace worked as a local salesman for Gibson Greeting Cards, based in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was a past president of the Stamford Catholic High School Home School Association and a member of the Noroton Fire Department for 60 years. Mr. Wallace lived in Stamford and Darien before he moved to Norwalk. He is survived by a son, James F. Wallace of Lewes, Del.; and a daughter, Mary Ellen Kerr of New Milford. He was predeceased by his wife, Anna Marie Fox Wallace, who died in 1994. There will be no calling hours. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 18 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 203 East Ave., Norwalk. Burial will be private. Floretta Warner of National City, Calif., a former Stamford resident, died Monday, Dec. 29, at Paradise Valley Health Care Center in National City. She was 93. She died of pneumonia, according to her family. Born June 10, 1910, in Yonkers, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Florence and Norman Humber Sr. Mrs. Warner was raised in the Cos Cob section of Greenwich. She is survived by a son, Horace Austin "Sunny" Beck Jr. of Wilmer, Texas; a daughter, Ann Jordan of Stamford; two sisters, Ethel Humber and Eleanor Hull, both of Vero Beach, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Eugene Warner; a daughter, Florence West; and four brothers, George Humber, William Humber, Norman Humber and Russell Humber. Services were held Tuesday, Jan. 6, at Cypress View Chapel in San Diego. Pastor Robert Henson of Calvary Baptist Church in National City officiated. Burial followed at Cypress View Mausoleum and Mortuary in San Diego. El Camino Memorial Cypress View Mortuary and Mausoleum, 3953 Imperial Ave., San Diego, handled arrangements.

Virginia E. Wasil, a teacher and lifelong Stamford resident, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, at the Richard L. Rosenthal Hospice Residence. She was 59. She died of respiratory arrest, according to her family. Born April 2, 1944, in Stamford, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Julia Koba Wasil. Miss Wasil taught at Holmes Elementary School in Darien for 35 years. She retired in June. She is survived by a brother, Robert Wasil of Stamford; a sister, Judith Gambino of Stamford; four nephews and a niece. Robert James Watkins of New Bedford, Mass., died Monday, May 5, at his home. He was 45. The cause of death has yet to be determined, according to the medical examiner's office. Born Feb. 3, 1958, in Urbana, Ohio, he was the son of Robert A. and Rillis M. Johnson Watkins Jr. of South Dartmouth, Mass. Mr. Watkins lived in New York City and Stamford for many years before moving to New Bedford three years ago. He was a knowledgeable sports enthusiast. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a daughter, Malicia Watkins of Westland, Mich.; a sister, Robbie D. Watkins of Stamford; his maternal grandmother, Verna Johnson of Urbana; an aunt; and several great-aunts, great-uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Robert A. and Mary Watkins Sr.; and his maternal grandfather, James A. Johnson. Mary Ann Watson, a Stamford resident for more than 30 years, died Wednesday, Dec. 18, at her home. She was 53. She died of cardiac arrest, according to her family. Born Feb. 6, 1949, in Vredenburgh, Ala., she was a daughter of the late Jake and Willie Ann Spencer Watson. Ms. Watson was a former employee of Clairol for more than 10 years. She worked for Laidlaw Bus Co. as a bus monitor until she retired. She is survived by a son, Termain Watson of Stamford; a daughter, Terri Watson of Stamford; three sisters, Daisy Bender of Bridgeport, Bessie W. Herring of Norwalk and Delois Watson of Atlanta; one brother, Larry P. Watson of Stamford; four nieces, six nephews and many cousins. She was predeceased by two brothers, Jake Watson Jr. and James B. Evelyn Doris Weaver, a Stamford resident for more than 50 years, died Saturday, Dec. 20, at Stamford Hospital. She was 84. She died of cancer, according to her family. Born Jan. 8, 1919, in Liberal, Kan., she was a daughter of the late Leroy and Minnie Leona Petty Bish. Mrs. Weaver was a member of the Women's Group at the Stamford Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Jim Weaver of Stamford; two daughters, Sharon Weaver of Stamford and Marilee Jacques Junior of Mesa, Ariz.; and two brothers, Donald Bish of Roswell, N.M., and Paul Bish of Alburquerque, N.M. She was predeceased by a brother, Leroy Bish; and a sister, Marie Willie. Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22, at Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien. Claude Anderson Webb of Wilmington, N.C., a former Westport resident, died Sunday, Sept. 28, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center in Wilmington. He was 81. He died of natural causes, according to his family. Born June 30, 1922 in Oklahoma City, he was a son of the late Claude Anderson and Ina Marie McCarthy Webb. Mr. Webb was a disabled U.S. veteran who served with the 44th Troop Carrier Squadron in Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a graduate of George Washington University. Mr. Webb retired in 1987 as a manager II with Connecticut Job Service in Stamford. He is survived by his wife, Louise Webb of Wilmington; three daughters, Susan Webb Kirk of Chevy Chase, Md., Dixie Webb O'Brien of Westport and Sharon Webb Moore of Harwich, Mass.; a son, Richard Webb of Sterling, Va.; a stepdaughter, Mary Kay Burke of Kure Beach, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and four stepgrandchildren. A funeral service was held Friday, Oct. 3, at the Chapel of Quantico Base, Quantico, Va. Burial followed in Quantico National Cemetery. Clifford Earl Webb Sr., a Wilton resident and former Norwalk pastor, died Monday, Feb. 24, at Wilton Meadows. He was 93. He died of natural causes, according to his family. Born Dec. 10, 1909, in New Canaan, he was the son of the late Wesley and Estella Stone Webb. Mr. Webb was a former pastor for Community of Christ Church in Norwalk for 20 years, before continuing his ministry there as high priest until the time of his death. He was involved in construction for most of his life, serving as a construction superintendent for Hobbs Inc. in New Canaan before founding Webb Construction Co., formerly in New Canaan, with his son Clifford Webb Jr. of Ridgefield. He was a former member of the board of trustees for the Carpenters Union No. 210 Health and Welfare Committee and a member of the New Canaan Garden Club. He volunteered as supervisor of construction for the Powerhouse and the Carriage Barn, both at Waveny Park in New Canaan. He was a former resident of The Greens in Cannondale in Wilton. In addition to his son, he is survived by three daughters, Helen Ludwig of New Canaan, Dorothy Williamson of Frederickburg, Texas, and June Ewald of Hayden Lake, Idaho; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Neale Webb; and a sister, Hazel Cross Davies. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 1, at Community of Christ Church, 2 Mill St., Norwalk. F. Ann Isabelle Weil of South Windsor, a homemaker, died Sunday, Aug. 17, at Manchester Memorial Hospital in Manchester. She was 80. She died of cancer, according to her family. Born Feb. 17, 1923, in Fort Thomas, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Anna and Otto Smith. Mrs. Weil lived in Cincinnati for 20 years, before moving to Stamford in 1962. She moved to South Windsor in 1997. While in Stamford, she volunteered for Meals On Wheels and was a member of St. Cecilia's and Holy Spirit churches. She also enjoyed playing duplicate bridge throughout Fairfield County. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Richard E. Weil of South Windsor; a daughter, Susanne M. Weil of Darien; a son, Steven E. Weil of South Windsor; and four grandsons. There will be no calling hours. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Margaret Mary's Church, 80 Hayes Road, South Windsor at a later date. Abbey Funeral & Cremation Service in Rocky Hill handled arrangements.

She died of pneumonia, according to her family. Born Nov. 4, 1930, in Port Chester, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Harry and Gertrude Parks Muller. Wayne E. Weiss of Ridgefield, a former New Canaan resident and president of Max Weiss & Son in Stamford, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, at Laurel Ridge Health Care Center in Ridgefield. He was 63. He died of multiple system atrophy, according to his family. Born May 12, 1940, in New York City, he was a son of the late Harry and Sally Mannushkin Weiss. Mr. Weiss lived in New Canaan before moving to Ridgefield five years ago. He was the chief executive officer and president of Max Weiss & Son for more than 30 years. Mr. Weiss collected coins and was a member of the Danbury Coin Club and the American Numismatic Association, among other organizations. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie J. White Weiss of Ridgefield; three daughters, Lisa Hopkowicz of Melville, N.Y., Stacey Moran of Bethel and Karen Hopkowicz of Ridgefield; and two grandchildren. Tillie Weissman of Hallendale, Fla., a former longtime resident of Stamford, died Monday, Sept. 1, at Memorial Hospital West in Plantation, Fla. She was 92. She died of natural causes, according to her family. Mrs. Weissman was born Feb. 9, 1911, in the Bronx, N.Y. She is survived by two sons, Stuart Weissman of Plantation and Arnold Weissman of Stamford; a daughter, Rona Topiel of Fort Lee, N.J.; a brother, William Koff of Hallendale; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Ben Weissman; three brothers, Dave Koff, Milton Koff and Eddie Koff; and a great-granddaughter. A graveside service and burial was held Wednesday, Sept. 3, at Lakeside Memorial Park in Miami, Fla.

George Paul Wellner of Greenwich died Sunday, Feb. 9, at home. He was 77. He died of cancer, according to his companion, Marilyn Hall. Born Dec. 17, 1925, in Port Chester, N.Y., he was the son of the late George Henry and Catherine Wilson Wellner. A World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Navy, Mr. Wellner was awarded three battle stars. He worked at the Diplomat Country Club in Hallendale, Fla., for 23 years. He recently retired from Kennedy Security in Greenwich after 20 years. An avid golfer, Mr. Wellner enjoyed fishing and gardening. He was a member of the American Legion Post 92 in Hollywood, Fla. Sara Burt Cushing Westcott of Greenwich, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, at Greenwich Hospital. She was 86. She died of natural causes, according to her family. Born May 31, 1916, in Providence, R.I., a daughter of the late Julia and Frederick Cushing. She graduated with honors from Pembroke College and attended graduate school in education at Columbia University. Sara and Ray Westcott were married in Providence on Oct. 10, 1942. They lived in Providence, Greenwich and Victoria, Texas, then settled in Greenwich in 1956. Mrs. Westcott taught at the New Canaan Country School for 25 years. She enjoyed reading, solving crossword puzzles, cooking and doing needlework. She is survived by her husband, Raymond Westcott; two daughters, Julia Quinn of Boise, Idaho, and Jean Westcott of Seattle; and three grandchildren. Bernard "Bernie" Wexler of Langhorne, Pa., a former executive at Kellogg Co. and General Electric, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, at CareOne in Livingston, N.J. He was 71. He died of pancreatic cancer, according to his family. Born March 29, 1932, in Brockton, Mass., he was the son of the late Hyman and Augusta Wexler.Mr. Wexler lived in Schenectady, N.Y., for 13 years and Kalamazoo, Mich., for fouryears before moving to Langhorne 17 years ago. He was a vice president and chief information officer for Kellogg Co. in Battle Creek, Mich., for four years and a senior manager at General Electric Co. in Schenectady, N.Y., for 26 years. He was a member, troop leader and cub master for the Boy Scouts of America and established an Explorer Post at General Electric. He also was an adjunct professor in the business department at the graduate school of Union College. Mr. Wexler earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and business from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and received his master's degree in industrial management from MIT's Sloan School of Management. He attended the Thayer Academy and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War in the Aircraft Control & Warning Division. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Wexler of Langhorne, Pa.; a daughter, Joan Sturm of Morristown, N.J.; two sons, Mark Wexler of Stamford and Robert Wexler of Sandy Hook; a sister, Eleanor Broudy of Boca Raton, Fla; and nine grandchildren. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, at Temple B'nai Or, 60 Overlook Road, Morristown, N.J. Burial will follow in Beth Israel cemeteryin Cedar Knolls, N.J. Fannie White, a Stamford resident for 62 years, died Monday, June 14, at Connecticut Hospice in Branford. She was 86. She died of cancer, according to her family. Born Nov. 1, 1917, in St. George, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Willie Holmes and Pearl Martin Holmes. Mrs. White was a parishioner of Bethel AME Church in Stamford, where she sang with the choir. She is survived by a son, the Rev. Edward White of New Haven; two sisters, Delorise Hankins of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Catherine Glover of Far Rockaway, N.Y.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. White was predeceased by her husband, Luther White; five brothers, Milton Holmes, James Holmes, Johnny Holmes, Lewis Holmes and Willie Holmes; and three sisters, Pauline Holmes, Deloris Church and Mildred Brown. Burial will be Tuesday, June 22, in Evergreen cemeteryin New Haven. Downer Funeral Home, 31 Stillwater Ave., Stamford, handled arrangements.
