Catherine V. Behm, a Stamford resident for 20 years, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, at Stamford Hospital. She was 88. She died of natural causes, according to her family. Born April 12, 1914, in Syracuse, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late George and Emma Virgilie Kurtz. Mrs. Behm was a member of St. Mary's Church in Stamford. Before that, she was a member of St. John's Church in Gananoque, Canada, where she belonged to the Rosary Society and the ladies' auxiliary. She also served four years at a campus ministry in Cullowhee, N.C.. Before that, she lived for four years in Nashville, Tenn., where she served as a housekeeper and cook at the Glenmary Missioners. Mrs. Behm volunteered with several ministries, and charity was an important part of her life. She is survived by a daughter, Kathleen Trask of St. Petersburg, Fla.; four sons, David Behm of Northwood, N.H., Richard Behm of Los Angeles, Robert Behm of Lake Worth, Fla., and Michael Behm of Stamford; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Services and burial will be at a later date at St. Joseph's Church in Camillus, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shongwe Mission, P.O. Tsilia Belkin of Stamford, a homemaker, died Sunday, Nov. 16, at Courtland Gardens Health Center in Stamford. She was 90. She died of natural causes, according to her family. Born July 9, 1913, in Ukraine, she was the daughter of the late Moisei and Maria Yakubstadt. Mrs. Belkin lived in Stamford for 12 years. She is survived by two daughters, Elena Gorelik of Stamford and Evgenia Mindlin of Israel; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Ilya Belkin; and two sisters, Anna Yakubstadt and Lydia Yakubstadt. Services and burial will be private. The Nicholas F. Albert F. Benevelli, a former Stamford resident, died Friday, Oct. 4, at home in Titusville, Fla. He was 78. He died of natural causes, according to his family. Born Dec. 13, 1923, in Stamford, he was the son of the late Alex and Theresa Colasso Benevelli. He lived in Stamford for 77 years until moving to Florida last year. Mr. Benevelli served in the U.S. Navy as a member of the 4th Naval Beach Battalion during World War II. He participated in three amphibious assault operations in Italy and France. Mr. Benevelli was later assigned to he USS Barnwell in the Pacific. After he was discharged, he and his father owned and operated a service station in Stamford. He later worked as an operating engineer providing crane lifting and rigging services to a construction company owned by the Compo family in Stamford. Mr. Benevelli was a firefighter and driver for the Springdale Fire Department in Stamford, where he rose through the ranks and eventually became the assistant fire chief and fire marshal. He also served on the Springdale Fire Department's board of directors and was president of the Fairfield County Fire Chiefs Emergency Plan. He was a member and the senior vice commander of VFW Post 9617, the Benevolent & Protective Order of the Elks and several recreational camping organizations, including the Family Motor Coach Association. Mr. Benevelli also served as an assistant troop leader for the St. Cecilia's Boy Scout Troop 47 in Stamford. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lorraine Birnie Benevelli of Titusville; three sons, David A. Benevelli of Duluth, Ga., William F. Benevelli of Marlborough, Mass., and Timothy A. Benevelli of Killingworth; a sister, Rita Rainone of Stamford; and eight grandchildren. Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 8, at Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford. A procession will leave the funeral home at 9:20 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, for St. Cecilia's Church, 1184 Newfield Ave., Stamford, for a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery, 25 Camp Ave., Darien. Henry W. Bennett, a lifelong Darien resident and retired tool and die repairman, died Friday, Sept. 5, at his home. He was 94. He died of natural causes, according to his family. Born May 14, 1909, in Darien, he was a son of the late James and Marie Swenson Bennett. Mr.Bennett graduated from Darien High School. He worked as a tool and die repairman for Norma-Hoffman in Stamford for 35 years. Mr. Bennett was secretary of the Noroton Fire Department. He had been an active member of the department for 76 years, having served as its chief and, for more than 30 years, as its treasurer. His father was a founding member of the volunteer department, and his brothers also served in it. Mr. Bennett also was a member of the Ivanhoe Lodge No. 107 A.F. & A.M. in Darien for 50 years and a longtime member of Noroton Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife, Jean Ellen Marie Bennett of Darien; two sons, Ron Bennett of Darien and Bruce Bennett of Denver; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept.7, at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien. Elizabeth Berger of Stamford, a former resident of Manhattan Beach, N.Y., and Miami Beach, Fla., died Saturday, Dec. 13, at Stamford Hospital. She was 88. She died of heart failure, according to her family. Born April 16, 1915, in Vienna, Austria, she was a daughter of the late Peter and Sarah Kossowsky. Mrs. Berger was a social worker in New York City for more than 15 years. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by a son, Peter Berger of Weston; and two granddaughters. Mrs. Berger was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters. Alma Helen Bernier, a longtime Norwalk resident, died Saturday, April 26, at Notre Dame Convalescent Home in Norwalk. She was 96. She died of natural causes, according to her family. Born Jan. 26, 1907, in Cocagne, New Brunswick, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Ceyrille and Azelie Baurque Duprey. Mrs. Bernier lived in Norwalk for most of her life. She was a babysitter for 15 years. She was a member of AARP and the Norwalk Senior Center. She is survived by two sons, Harold J. Bernier of Prospect and James Bernier of Grant, Fla.; two daughters, Lorraine Eastman of Durham, N.H., and Mary Hayo of Phoenix; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph H. Bernier; a daughter, Diane Breault; a son, Walter P. Bernier; five brothers, Arthur Duprey, Herve Duprey, Everett Duprey, Francis Duprey and Louis Duprey; and a sister, Stella Boyce. John McKenzie Beveridge, a Stamford resident and accomplished bagpiper, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, at Norwalk Hospital. He was 71. He died of myocardial infarction, according to his family. Born July 17, 1932, in Glasgow, Scotland, he was a son of the late George McNeill and Eliza Ann Smith Beveridge. Mr. Beveridge was a bagpiper in the Highland Light Infantry in Scotland. He worked for more than 20 years as a project manager for M.R. Schoenbach in New York City. He was founder and pipe major of the Greenwich Pipe Band, and former pipe major of the Glen Rock Pipe Band. He was a longtime teacher of the bagpipes and a former ski instructor with Professional Ski Instructors of America. Mr. Beveridge is survived by his former wife, Isabel Robertson Miner of Greenwich; a son, Iain McNeill Beveridge of Salt Lake City; three daughters, Karen Isabel Morgan of Darien, Grace Anne Cassidento of Guilford and Colleen McDermott of Milford; and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Grace Beveridge. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at First Congregational Church of Darien, 14 Brookside Road, Darien. The Rev. Blanche Kosinski Bialczak of Greenwich, a founding member of the Cos Cob Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, died Tuesday, Nov. 19, at Stamford Hospital. She was 79. She died of natural causes, her family said. Born March 25, 1923, in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Edward A. and Bessie Clayton Morrell. A longtime resident of Cos Cob, Mrs. Bialczak was a retired manager with the former Bonnie Doone Hosiery in Stamford. In addition to the fire company auxiliary, she was a member of the Holy Name of Jesus Senior Club, the AARP No. 1210 and the Diamond Hill United Methodist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Joyce Kosinski of Greenwich; and a brother, William H. Morrell of Stamford. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Bialczak; her first husband, Roman Kosinski; a daughter, Carol Ann Kosinski; and a brother, Edward A. Morrell. Charlotte Britton Biggart, a homemaker and longtime Darien resident, died Monday, Sept. 29, at home. She was 77. She died of heart failure, according to her family. Born April 23, 1926, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late George H. and Loretta Wade Britton. Mrs. Biggart was a graduate of Marymount College in Tarrytown, N.Y. She lived in Darien for 48 years. She volunteered at the Family & Children's Agency in Norwalk, belonged to Wee Burn Country Club in Darien and was a parishioner of St. Thomas More Church in Darien. She is survived by two sons, James H. Biggart Jr. of Cheshire and Robert K. Biggart of Darien; three daughters, Elizabeth W. Biggart of Stanford, Calif., Anne B. Bowers of Berwyn, Pa., and Amy B. Curry of Newtown; three sisters, Ann Sweeney of Pawling, N.Y., Wynola "Nicki" Pelton of Whispering Pines, N.C., and Sara Leehey of West Hills, Calif.; and 17 grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, James H. Biggart. There will be no calling hours. Gail Brencher Billingham of New Milford, a former New Canaan resident, died Monday, Dec. 3, at New Milford Hospital. She was 62. She died of emphysema, according to the state medical examiner. Born July 30, 1939 in New York City, she was the daughter of Anghild Berghult Brencher of Darien and the late William H. Brencher. Mrs. Billingham worked as an operator for Hometown Answering Service. She was active in the United Methodist Church of New Canaan. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Charles S. Billingham of New Milford; two daughters, Jody Pumroy of New Milford and Robin LaVigne of Waterbury; and six grandchildren. Louis H. Black Sr., a lifelong Stamford resident, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, at The Smith House Health Center in Stamford. He was 91. He died of natural causes, according to his family. Born June 2, 1911, in Stamford, he was the son of the late John and Julia Black. Mr. Black was a self-employed carpenter and contractor. During World War II, he worked at Luders Boat Yard in Stamford as a carpenter. He was a member of St. Mary Church in Stamford. He is survived by a son, Louis H. Black Jr. of Darien; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Kathryn Watson Black; a son, John Black; a sister, Elizabeth Payne; five brothers, John Black, Joseph Black, George Black, Frank Black and Steve Black; and a grandson. Edith L. Blanchard, a Stamford resident, died Tuesday, Dec. 17, at the Tandet Center in Stamford. She was 84. She died of natural causes, according to her family. Born May 30, 1918, in Dedham, Mass., she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Edith Little. Mrs. Blanchard was raised in Greenwich. She graduated from Greenwich High School in 1935 and went on to graduate from Merrill Business School in Stamford. She moved to Stamford in 1941, where she was an active volunteer with FISH of Stamford and a member of Church Women United and the Schubert Club Chorale, both in Stamford. She was former president of the resident council of the Tandet Center. She was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church of Stamford, where she was a member of the Altar Guild and Choir and an organist/choir director in the early 1970s. She was also an organist at First Church of Christ Scientist in Port Chester, N.Y., for several years. She is survived by a son, David Blanchard of Trumbull; a daughter, Joy Celli of Stamford; a sister, Eleanor Cathers of Knoxville, Tenn.; a brother, Thomas Little of Naperville, Ill.; and three granddaughters and a grandson. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas A. Blanchard Sr.; and a son, Thomas A. Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Blanchard of Wallingford, the former housemother of the American School for the Deaf in West Hartford, died Wednesday, June 18, at Regency House in Wallingford. She was 72. She died of heart failure, according to her family. Born Sept. 25, 1930, in Stamford, she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Ellen Dahlgren Larson. Mrs. Blanchard was a student and later an employee of the American School for the Deaf. She lived at the school for more than 45 years. Her late husband, Leverette O. Blanchard, was the Dean of Boys at the school. Each December, Mrs. Blanchard decorated the children's dining room for Christmas. She loved teddy bears and her family will remember her for her "bear hugs." Mrs. Blanchard retired seven years ago and moved to Durham, then to Wallingford. She is survived by three sisters, Dorothy Bugbee of Wilmington, N.Y., Ellen Melfi of Monroe and Barbara Olsen of Durham; one brother, Ernest Larson of Stamford; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by three brothers, Walter Larson, John Larson and Robert Larson; and three sisters, Vivian Larson, Jane Guinta and Margaret Merrifield. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be at the American School for the Deaf in September. Memorial donations may be made to the American School for the Deaf, 139 N. Julia A. "Julie" Boehn, a lifelong Stamford resident, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, at Stamford Hospital. She was 70. She died of cancer, according to her family. Born April 5, 1933, in Stamford, she was a daughter of the late Dominick and Rita Ricci Moscatello. Mrs. Boehn was a retired customer service representative for Northeast Utilities. She was a member of St. Mary's Church. She is survived by her husband, Richard Boehn Sr. of Stamford; two sons, Richard Boehn Jr. of Stamford and David Boehn of Trumbull; two daughters, Cindy McKean and Patty Fusaro, both of Stamford; three brothers, Joseph Moscatello of Greenwich, Dominick Moscatello of Stamford and Raymond Moscatello of Brookfield; three sisters, Lydia DeNardo, Mary Bonius and Ann Esposito, all of Stamford; and six grandchildren. Leonard A. Bonina, a lifelong Stamford resident and president of the former Bonina Construction Co. in Stamford, died Tuesday, Nov. 18, at Stamford Hospital. He was 83. He died of congestive heart failure, according to his family. Born Nov. 6, 1920, in Stamford, he was a son of the late Salvatore and Felicia LaGuardia Bonina and the stepson of the late Josephine Bonina, who raised him since he was 4. Mr. Bonina grew up in Stamford and graduated from Stamford High School. As a young man, he performed locally with his orchestra, Art Bon and the Bon Bons. He served in U.S. Army during World War II and rose to the rank of staff sergeant with the 389th Infantry Regiment, 78th Division in Japan. He was a superintendent for A.M. Santella Construction in Norwalk. He founded and led Bonina Construction Co. He was a member of Carpenters Local Union 210. He was a lifelong parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Stamford, where he was president of the Holy Name Society and chairman of the parish council. He was a member of the Lion's Club in Stamford, serving as president from 1981 to 1982. Mr. Bonina was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Springdale Post 9617. He was an avid bowler and a talented carpenter who enjoyed lively conversation and the company of family and friends. Mr. Bonina is survived by his wife of 55 years, Catherine Giamba Bonina of Stamford; a son, Salvatore Bonina of Monroe; two daughters, Felicia Carriero and Mariangela Maffucci, both of Stamford; three brothers, Patsy Bonina and Salvatore Bonina, both of Stamford, and Eugene Bonina of Boca Raton, Fla.; two sisters, Mary Bonina and Millie Meno, both of Stamford; and 10 grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Anthony Bonina; a sister, Rose Ciliberto; and a stepbrother, Vincent Tripolone. Myrtle V. Boothe, a longtime Stamford resident and clinical nurse technician, died Wednesday, Dec. 25, at Stamford Hospital. She was 59. She died of cardiac arrest, according to her family. Born Dec. 28, 1942, in Memphis, Tenn., she was the daughter of Charity Boone Valentine of Stamford and the late Marvin Valentine. Mrs. Boothe was a resident of Stamford since 1963. She worked at Stamford Hospital as a clinical nurse technician for 36 years. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her son, Michael O. Valentine of Stamford, youth pastor at Community Tabernacle of Deliverance Church; four brothers, Richard Valentine of Memphis, Shepard Valentine of Clarksville, Tenn., and Walter Valentine and George Valentine, both of Flint, Mich.; and three grandchildren. Mary Lipchik Borodulia of Fenwick Island, Del., a former Stamford resident and retired school teacher and guidance counselor, died Thursday, Aug. 7, at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin, Md. She was 81. She died of kidney problems, according to her family. Born Oct. 30, 1921, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late John and Anastasia Ganetsky Lipchik. She was a graduate of Stamford High School. Mrs. Borodulia was a retired school teacher and guidance counselor for the Board of Education in Baltimore. She formerly lived in Towson, Md. She was a member of St. Nicholas Cathedral in Washington, D.C., and Christ the Savior Orthodox Church in Fenwick Island. She played violin in the Salisbury and Dover Symphony. She was an avid gardener, bingo player and reader. She is survived by her son, Dr. Nicholas Borodulia of Bishopville, Md.; her sister, Olga Kucharski of Chester; and one grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband, Nicholas V. Borodulia; and her daughter, Tatiana Borodulia. A funeral service was held Sunday, Aug. 10, at Fenwick Island. Burial was Monday, Aug. 11, in Woodland cemeteryin Stamford. Hastings Funeral Home, 19 South St., Selbyville, Del., handled arrangements.
