Catalano, Carmela (DiPierdominico) - July 14, 2005
KENSINGTON – Carmela (DiPierdominico) Catalano, 78, of Kensington, the widow of Orazio Catalano, died Thursday (July 14, 2005) at home. Born in Italy, the daughter of the late Nicola and the late Anna (Cicotelli) DiPierdominico, she was employed at Prentice Corporation until her retirement, and was a member of St. Paul’s Church. She is survived by two sons and two daughters-in-law, Paul and Janice Catalano of Kensington, Frank Catalano of Middletown, and Lucia DeVivo-Catalano of Kensington, a daughter and a son-in-law, Anna and Wayne Cheeseman of Jupiter, Florida, two brothers, John DiPierdominico in Canada, and Guido DiPierdominico of Kensington, eight grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, James Catalano, a brother, Donato DiPierdominico, and a sister, Marietta DeThomasis. Funeral services will be Monday (July 18, 2005) at 9am from Porter's Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway in Kensington, followed by a Funeral Liturgy at 10am at St. Paul's Church on Alling Street. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the funeral home on Sunday (July 17, 2005) from 4-6pm. Klaus, Alice (Perron) - April 02, 2005
MERIDEN – Alice (Perron) Klaus, 91, of Meriden, formerly of New Britain and Kensington, the widow of Stanley Joseph Klaus, died early Saturday morning (April 2, 2005) at Westfield Care and Rehabilitation Center in Meriden. Born in Berlin, New Hampshire, the daughter of the late Ernest and the late Adeline (Gosselin) Perron, she was employed at The Stanley Works until her retirement, and was a member of St. Paul Church in Kensington. She is survived by two sons, George DiPace in New Hampshire, and Robert DiPace Sr. of Waterbury, a daughter, Theresa Hanson of Meriden, eight grandchildren, Cheryl Rasmussen, Frank Oraczewski, Robert DiPace Jr., Kenneth, Christopher, and Steven DiPace, Donna Veach, and Diane Barden, and several great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held Friday (April 8, 2005) at 1pm in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Road, Newington 06111.
Sangeloty, Stanley - March 23, 2005
KENSINGTON – Stanley Sangeloty, 74, of Meetinghouse Road, the husband, true love, and best friend of Marion (Zotter) Sangeloty, died late Wednesday (March 23, 2005) at home with his family at his side. Born in New Britain, the son of the late Ernest and the late Stella Sangeloty, he graduated from New Britain High School, and received is Bachelor’s and his Master’s degrees from Springfield College, served in the U.S. Army, and was employed at Berlin High School as a teacher, counselor and coach for over thirty happy years. He enjoyed volunteering for different community organizations, was a member of the Italian Political Independent Club, and loved life in general. In his own words: “He came, he loved, he left”. In addition to his wife, he was blessed with three great children and their spouses, Michael and Jane Sangeloty of Meriden, Paul and Laurie Sangeloty of Farmington, and Pamela and Sean Higgins of Southington, and seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Jill, Matthew, Thomas, and Michelle Sangeloty, and Katelyn and Sarah Higgins. A service will be held Monday at 7pm at Porter’s Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway, Kensington. Burial in Maple Cemetery, Berlin, will be at the convenience of the family. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the funeral home on Monday from 4pm until the time of the service. DeConti, Angelo M. - March 14, 2005
KENSINGTON – Angelo M. “Dugan/Gig” DeConti, 77, of Kensington, formerly of New Britain, husband of Theresa (Therrien) DeConti, passed away Monday night at home after a nine-month battle with cancer. Born in New Britain, the son of the late Peter and the late Pauline (Failla) DeConti, he graduated from New Britain High School in 1945, earned the rank of Eagle Scout with Troop 7, walked the Appalachian Trail, served in the U.S. Navy from 1946-1948 as an aircraft mechanic, was employed as a machinist at Emhart for 41-1/2 years until his retirement in 1990, and then assisted his son, John, with his company “DeConti Industries” for another 12 years. Prior to moving to Kensington he was an active member of St. Joseph’s Church and School, was a current parishioner at St. Paul Church, and was a proud blood donor, having recently received the “12 Gallon” pin from the American Red Cross. In addition to his wife, he leaves seven children, Elaine and Ron Barry in Maryland, Sharon Holmes in California, Michael and Kathy DeConti of West Hartford, Pat and David Johnson in Kansas, John and Mary DeConti of Bristol, Rosemarie and David Weed of Kensington, and Joanne and Troy Helms in Washington, a former daughter-in-law, Marie DeConti of Farmington, sixteen grandchildren, Pam Barry-Santos and her husband Jonathan, Lisa Barry, Brian, Marianne, and Lauren DeConti, Emily, Caroline, and Bradley Johnson, Jason DeConti, Maria DeConti and her fiancé Miro Celejewski; Diana and PFC John DeConti, Stephen and Emily Weed, and Tyler and Tommy Helms, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Philip and Margie DeConti of New Britain, Robert and Linda DeConti of Newington, a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Lou and Pat McCue of Newington, and a sister-in-law, Peg DeConti of Newington. He was predeceased by his brother, Peter. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9am from the Porter’s Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway, Kensington, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10am at St. Paul Church, on Alling Street. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the funeral home on Friday from 5-8pm. Laviana, Nellie (Viniconis) - March 12, 2005
KENSINGTON – Nellie (Viniconis) Laviana, of Chamberlain Highway, the widow of Lawrence Joseph Laviana, died Saturday at home two days after her 85th birthday. Born in Enfield, the daughter of the late Paul and the late Mary Viniconis, she was brought up on a farm, and her love of farming carried into her ownership of Laviana’s Orchards on Chamberlain Highway. She also loved her family casino trips. She is survived by a son, Ronald Laviana, two daughters and a son-in-law, Barbara and John Grasso, and Arlene Laviana, all of Kensington, two sisters, Anna in Florida, and Isabella of Broad Brook, several nieces and nephews, and her beloved bird “Smokey”. She was predeceased by three brothers, Raymond, Francis, and Louis, and two sisters, Margaret and Helen. A prayer service will be held Tuesday at 10am at Porter’s Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway in Kensington. Burial will follow in South Burying Ground, Kensington. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 9am until the time of the service.
Philippon, Jane (Martnelli) - March 10, 2005
WETHERSFIELD – Mrs. Jane (Martinelli) Philippon, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, passed away Thursday (March 10, 2005) at her home in Wethersfield. Mrs. Philippon was one of nine children, born in New Britain to the late Aurelia (Baraglia) and John Martinelli. At the time of her death she was employed as an Account Specialist at Credit and Financial Service of West Hartford where she was recently honored as “Employee of the Year”. She was previously employed as a Personal Officer for Caldor Stores at numerous locations. Previous to that, along with her husband, Fernand Philippon, they owned and operated The Party King in Southington. Mrs. Philippon leaves to mourn her passing; her two sons, Peter who resided with her, and Paul of Glastonbury; four daughters and their spouses, Odie and Bruce Schoenborn of Portland, Esther and Kevin Harvey of Wolcott, Paula and Peter Palermino of West Hartford, and Carol and Michael Casey of West Haven, and her grandchildren, Sarah and Joseph Schoenborn, Meghan, Keith, and Shannon Harvey, Lauren and Caitlin Palermino, and Brian and Andrea Casey. She is survived also by three brothers, Norman Martinelli of East Berlin, Stanley and his wife Lorraine of Berlin, Henry and his wife Elizabeth of Berlin, two sisters and their spouses, Ida Martinelli and Frank Witt of Rocky Hill, and Gloria and Richard Careb of Arizona. Mrs. Philippon also leaves several nieces nephews, sister and brother-in-laws, and former husband and loving friend Fernand Philippon of Newington. In addition to her many hours of volunteer services, which brought her much joy, she was an avid reader, loved music, operas, sports, and frequent dinner engagements with her friends. She will also be missed by her special friend George Barrett. Mrs. Philippon was predeceased by three siblings Joseph, Loretta, and Mary Martinelli. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held Tuesday (March 15, 2005) at 7pm at Porter’s Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway in Kensington. Rosso, Anthony - February 28, 2005
KENSINGTON-Anthony “Bumpa” Rosso, 86, of Kensington, the widower of Mildred (Zucchi) Rosso, passed away on Monday evening (February 28, 2005). Born in New Britain, the son of the late Peter and the late Clotilda (Miranda) Rosso. He was a 50 year member and past president of the Berlin Lions Club, member and past president of the I.P.I.C., 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Sacred Heart Men’s Club, American Legion Post #68, VFW Post #511, charter member and former Chief of the Kensington Volunteer Fire Department, served formerly as Fire Marshall for the Town of Berlin and was also a member of St. Paul’s Church in Kensington. In addition, Anthony was a US Army veteran, deployed to the South Pacific during WWII. He is survived by two sons and daughter-in-laws, Peter and Laurel Rosso, and Robert and Leona Rosso, all of Kensington, two daughters and son-in-laws, Diane and Edward Egazarian of Berlin, and Toniann Skwiot and Edward Ouellette of Kensington, eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, Nunzio Rosso, with whom he was partnered at Rosso Auto Parts until his retirement. Funeral services will be held Saturday (March 5, 2005)at 9 a.m. from the Porter’s Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway, Kensington, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Paul’s Church, Alling Street, Kensington. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Friends and are invited to call at the funeral home on Friday (March 4, 2005)from 4-7pm.
