Helen Daily, 91, was a New Milford resident
Helen (Coughlin) Daily, 91, of Chestnut Grove, New Milford, died Nov. 28 at Candlewood Valley Health Center in New Milford. She was the widow of Edward E. Daily.
Mrs. Carlson was born April 16, 1908, in Green Island, N.Y., daughter of the late William and Auline (Asher) Coughlin. She moved from South Hampton, N.Y., to New Milford in 1989.
Mrs. Carlson is survived by a daughter, Kathyleen Tiso of Sparta, N.J.; and two grandchildren.
The Lillis Funeral Home in New Milford was in charge of the arrangements.

Freda Cutting, 91, had family in New Milford
Freda Rose (Smith) Cutting, 91, formerly of Orchard St., Danbury, died Dec. 2 at Mediplex of Danbury. She was the widow of William Drummond Cutting.
Mrs. Cutting was born in Northampton, Mass., June 9, 1908, a daughter of the late Robert and Anna (Klien) Smith. She was raised in Northampton, where her father worked as caretaker for President Calvin Coolidge. She had been a resident of Danbury for over 50 years.
Mrs. Cutting is survived by her son, Robert D. Cutting and his wife, Elsa, of Bethel; a grandson, Roy Cutting of New Milford; four step-granddaughters, Samantha Zahran, Cynthia Barksdale, Christina Baird and Caitlin Baird, all of New Milford; and six great grandchildren.
The Hull Funeral Home of Danbury was in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth Jolicoeur, 84, sister of two area men
Elizabeth (Munson) Jolicoeur, 84, formerly of Camp Dutton Road, Litchfield, died Nov. 15 at the Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center of Cape Coral, Fla. She was the widow of Leo Jolicoeur.
Mrs. Jolicoeur was born April 23, 1915, in Litchfield, daughter of the late Albert and Cora (Dean) Munson. She lived in Litchfield until moving to Cape Coral in August.
A member of the United Methodist Church of Litchfield, she was formerly an active member of the Ephraim-Kirby Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star.
Mrs. Jolicoeur is survived by two sons, Gerald R. Jolicoeur of Lakeland, Fla., and Edward Jolicoeur of Cape Coral; two brothers, Burt Munson of New Milford and Edwin Munson of Morris; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The Rowe Funeral Home of Litchfield was in charge of arrangements.

Wanda Cowles, 62, mother of New Milford woman
Wanda A. Cowles, 62, of Fort Madison, Iowa, died Dec. 2 at her home following a battle with brain cancer.
She was born Feb. 22, 1937, in Elmer, Mo., a daughter of the late Henry and Daphne (Mathis) Howerton.
Mrs. Cowles had lived in the Dallas City, Ill., and Fort Madison area for the past 40 years.
She married Dr. Richard D. Kerr on April 6, 1958, in Fort Madison and married Hilbert R. Cowles on April 17, 1987, in Nashua, Iowa. She graduated from Columbia Christian College in Columbia, Mo.
Besides her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Shala Kisling of New Milford, Stacey Goralczyk of San Diego, Calif. and Stephanie Kerr of Macomb, Ill.; a son, Scott Kerr of Kansas City, Kan.; seven grandchildren; three stepsons, two stepdaughters; and eight step-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister.
The King-Lynk Funeral Home in Fort Madison was in charge of arrangements.

Priscilla Lyon, 76, New Milford native, was active in community
Priscilla (Chalmers) Lyon, 76, of 25 South Main St., New Milford, died Dec. 5 at New Milford Hospital after being stricken at her home. She was the wife of the late Alan Lyon.
Mrs. Lyon was born in New Milford April 23, 1923, a daughter of the late William Y. and Gertrude (Riddiford) Chalmers. She was a graduate of New Milford High School and the Connecticut School of Physical Therapy in New Haven.
She had been last employed at the Candlewood Valley Health Center in New Milford. She was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church of New Milford, a member of the New Milford Garden Club and a member of the New Milford Historical Society.
Mrs. Lyon had been a longtime member of the Lake Waramaug Country Club in New Preston and a longtime volunteer at the Thrift Mart of New Milford, Inc.
Mrs. Lyon is survived by a son, Lynn "Punky" Lyon of Swedeboro, N.J.; two daughters, Betsy L. Lathrop of New Milford and Martha Dwyer of Jackson Hole, Wyo.; a sister, Jeanne Clark of Waterford; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The Lillis Funeral Home of New Milford was in charge of arrangements.

Helenmarie Woodford, 58, resident of New Milford
Helenmarie (Bekech) Woodford, 58, of 15 Old Parkwood Road, New Milford, died Nov. 29 at Danbury Hospital. She was the wife of Paul Woodford.
Mrs. Woodford was born in Bridgeport Feb. 7, 1941, a daughter of Agnes (Makara) Bekech of Stratford and the late John Bekech.
She was a graduate of St. Cyril's High School in Bridgeport and had worked for many years at Shawmut Bank, retiring in 1995.
Besides her husband and mother, Mrs. Woodford is survived by two brothers, John Bekech of Naugatuck and Ronald Bekech of Seminole, Fla.; a sister, Margaret Howes of Fountain Inn, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
The Lillis Funeral Home of New Milford was in charge of arrangements.

Edward Renouf, 93, lived in Washington Depot
Edward VonPechmann Renouf, 93, of Juniper Meadow Road, Washington Depot, died Nov. 30 at his home. He was the widower of Catherine (Smith) Renouf.
Mr. Renouf was born Nov. 23, 1906, in China, son of the late Vincent A. and Lili (VonPechmann) Renouf.
He is survived by his three daughters, Hester Renouf of Sweden, Johanna Renouf of London and Edda Renouf-Middleton of Paris; seven grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

Raymond Ubben, 65, father of New Milford man
Raymond C. Ubben, 65, of 75 Manor Road, Southbury, died Dec. 4 in his home. He was the husband of Mary (Lambe) Ubben.
Mr. Ubben was born June 4, 1934, in Yonkers, N.Y., son of the late Arthur William and Cristina Rose (Mack) Ubben. He had lived in Southbury for the past 30 years, commuting daily to New York, where he worked for the telephone company.
Besides his wife, Mr. Ubben is survived by four sons, Randolph Ubben of New Milford, Greg Ubben of South Carolina and Brian and Paul Ubben, both of Southbury; a daughter, Dana Mayberger of Florida; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at the Southbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere, 235 Main St. North, Route 6 today (Friday) at 11 a.m. Friends may gather at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial is private.

Brenda Weston, 31, sister of New Milford woman
Brenda L. Weston, 31, of Redding died Dec. 3. She was the wife of Stanley L. Weston.
Mrs. Weston was born in Milford Oct. 11, 1968, a daughter of Joseph Campbell of Bangor, Maine, and Alminda (Bautista) Roth of Milford.
She especially enjoyed being with children and formerly assisted at the Landmark Academy in Wilton.
Besides her husband of seven years and her parents, Mrs. Weston is survived by her children, Ashley and Stanley Weston of Redding; her paternal grandmother, Mary Hart of Bangor, Maine; two sisters, Donna Campbell of New Canaan and Kelly Campbell of New Milford; a brother, Lawrence Campbell of Milford; a nephew, Tyler; and an aunt, Frances Gorham of Newtown.
The Bouton Funeral Home of Georgetown was in charge of arrangements.

Merle Borst, 66, was active in Masonic circles
Merle Thomas Borst, 66, of 29 Upper Mallett Lane, New Milford, died Nov. 25. He was the husband of Nancy (Salisbury) Borst.
Mr. Borst was born in Oneonta, N.Y., May 13, 1933, a son of the late Paulo and Florence (Smeaton) Gonzales. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the United States Navy.
He had owned and operated Merle's Barber Shop in Brookfield for many years before his retirement.
Active in Masonic circles, he was a member of the Candlewood Shrine Club, Crusader Commandery No. 10 K.T., and a member of Union Lodge No. 40 A.F. & A.M., Eureka Chapter No. 23 RAM, Wooster Council No. 28 R & S. M.
Mr. Borst lived in Brookfield for some 30 years before moving to New Milford in 1987.
Besides his wife, Mr. Borst is survived by three sons, Keith G. Borst of Austin, Texas, Gary J. Borst of Rancho Santa Marguerita, Calif., and Craig A. Borst of Danbury; a stepson, James G. Beam of Hulls Cove, Maine; two daughters, Janice A. Borst of New Milford and Phyllis J. Andersen of Cape Coral, Fla.; a brother, Paul Gonzales of Brookfield; and four grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Lola Borst Smith.
Friends may call today (Friday) from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge St., New Milford.
Funeral services will take place tonight at 8 p.m.

Esper Shaker, 90, once a partner in local business
Esper S. "Jack" Shaker, 90, of Plainville, formerly of New Britain and Danbury, died Dec. 8 at the Hospital for Special Care in New Britain. He was the widower of Elizabeth "Maym" Shaker.
Mr. Shaker was born in Waterbury, the son of the late Anthony J. and Labibe (Assaff) Shaker. He was a member of Saint Jerome Roman Catholic Church.
He owned and operated Maym's Restaurant in New Britain with his wife for 20 years. He also owned, with his brothers and sisters, Shaker's Kenwood Inn in New Milford. In 1973, he opened Shaker's Package Store in New Britain.
Mr. Shaker was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus Daly Council, New Britain and the Lebanese Businessmen Association in Waterbury. He was a member of the Independent Political Club of New Britain. He enjoyed bowling and playing cards.
Mr. Shaker is survived by a son, Paul A. Shaker Sr. of New Britain; a daughter-in-law, Kathleen McNamara of Farmington; a brother and sister-in-law, Marshall and Nellie Shaker of Danbury; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Jenny Matney of Waterbury and Frieda and Larry Crooker of Danbury; three sisters-in-law, Marge Shaker of Daytona Beach, Fla., Selma Haddad of Wolcott and Tina Haddad of New Britain; three grandchildren, Kelly, Paul Jr. and Kari; two great-grandchildren, Ricky and Brigid; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was predeceased by four brothers, Shaker, Joe, Eli and Danny Shaker; two sisters, Florence Antous and Laurice Shaker; a brother-in-law, Frederick Haddad Sr.; and a granddaughter, Kathleen "Katie" Shaker.
The Paul A. Shaker/Farmingdale Funeral Home of New Britain was in charge of arrangements.
