Mary Weaver, 86, mother of New Milford woman
Mary E. (Graham) Weaver, 86 of 20 Park Lane West, New Milford, died Aug. 31 at New Milford Nursing Home. She was the widow of William E. Weaver.
Mrs. Weaver was born Oct. 21, 1914, in North Canaan.
She was a Brookfield resident for many years and a member of the Brookfield Congregational Church and Pokono Grange No. 191.
She retired from American Cyanamid in 1971 and moved to North Fort Myers, Fla., two years later. She returned to Connecticut in September 2000 and lived with family.
Mrs. Weaver is survived by a daughter, Nancy Vasaturo of New Milford; 10 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and three great, great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two daughters, Joyce M. Booth and Ruthann Marsh.
Contributions may be made in her memory to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492; or to the American Diabetes Association, 300 Research Parkway, Meriden, CT 06450.

Janice W. Wilson, 87, was a New Milford resident
Janice (Ward) Wilson, 87 of New Milford, died Aug. 30 at New Milford Hospital after a short illness. She was the widow of Paul Wilson.
Mrs. Wilson was born April 25, 1914, in Newtown, daughter of the late Hervey and Laura Ward.
She was a resident of Bethel for much of her life and finally settled in New Milford. She was retired from the Barden Corporation.
She is survived by a son, Jay and his wife Johanne; six grandchildren, Barbara Buchanon, Bonnie Lowell, Michael Glynn, Robert Moody and Jason and Tanya Wilson; eight great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren.
The Colonial Funeral Home of New Milford was in charge of arrangements.

Louise Margiotta, 80, mother of Washington woman
Louise (Carosella) Margiotta, 80, of 235 Oak St., Waterbury, died Aug. 31 at Bay State Hospital in Springfield, Mass. She was the widow of Rocco Margiotta.
Mrs. Margiotta was born June 11, 1921, in Waterbury, daughter of the late Michael and Jennie (Laudisi) Carosella.
She was a communicant of St. Lucy’s Church.
She is survived by a son, Michael of Feeding Hills, Mass.; two daughters, Rosemarie Leon of Washington and Mary Lou of New Britain; a brother, Alfred Carosella of Waterbury; and four grandchildren.
The Albini Family Funeral Home of Waterbury was in charge of arrangements.

Mary Whitmore, 72, was lifelong Kent resident
Mary (Soule) Whitmore, 72, of 13 Chase Hill Road, Kent, died Sept. 4 at The Kent, a Special Care Facility, after a long illness. She was the wife of Martin Whitmore.
Mrs. Whitmore was born Aug. 19, 1929, in Kent, the daughter of the late Newton and Amelia (Whathley) Soule.
She was a graduate of Housatonic Valley Regional High School.
She worked as a telephone operator in Kent, was the cafeteria manager for Kent Center School and was employed at the Barn Shop for many years.
Mrs. Whitmore was a lifelong member of Saint Andrews Episcopal Church in Kent.
Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, Kenneth and Roger of Kent; two sisters, Marcia Bosserman and Cora Mae Ward of Kent; seven grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Timothy.
There will be a graveside memorial service at the Kent Congregational Cemetery Tuesday at 10 a.m. for family and friends.
The Lillis Funeral Home of New Milford is in charge of arrangements.

Timothy E. Vogel, 49, owner of moving company
Timothy E. Vogel, 49, of 29 Little Bear Hill Road, New Milford, died Sept. 3 at New Milford Hospital from injuries received while working on his car at his home. He was the husband of Cynthia Cole Vogel.
Mr. Vogel was born Aug. 11, 1952, in Neenah, Wisc., a son of George and Carol Prahl Vogel of Sun City Center, Fla. He graduated from Danbury High School after relocating from Wisconsin in 1970.
Mr. Vogel had an extensive background in the trucking industry and for the past seven years was owner and operator of Noreast Moving Professionals, specializing in corporate relocations through Bolliger International, Stamford.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by two sons, Nick Vogel and Luke Vogel of New Milford; a daughter, Olivia Vogel of New Milford; a brother, Thomas Vogel of Carlsbad, Calif.; four sisters, Mary Vogel of Longmeadow, Mass., Diane Vogel and Suzanne Gibbs, both of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Darlene Vogel of New York, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.
The Lillis Funeral Home in New Milford handled arrangements.

Anthony J. Iride, 75, resident of New Milford
Anthony J. Iride, 75, of Mist Hill Drive, New Milford, died Aug. 28 at his home. He was the husband of Helen T. (Joyce) Iride.
Mr. Iride was born Jan. 2, 1926, in the Bronx, N.Y., son of the late Oreste and Caterina (Imperioli) Iride.
He attended Bronx schools and was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Navy in Cuba.
He had been employed for 37 years with Kraft General Foods, White Plains, N.Y., in data processing, retiring in 1986.
Mr. Iride was a member of St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church, Brookfield.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Theresa Caparino and her husband Andrew of New Milford, Catherine Reilly and her husband Thomas of Massapequa, N.Y., and Marie Tishler and her husband Richard of Rockville Center, N.Y.; a sister, Amelia Capozzi of Deer Park, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Michael Caparino, Bryan and Kaelin Reilly, and Ricky and Sarah Tishler; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Louis.
The Brookfield Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Lisa Marie Kozar, 34, sister of New Milford man
Lisa Marie Kozar, 34, of Rimmon Hill Road, Beacon Falls, died Aug. 25 at her home.
Miss Kozar was born Aug. 24, 1967, in Norwalk, daughter of Barbara Ann (Dulac) Kozar and the late Robert G. Kozar.
She was formerly of Norwalk and lived in Beacon Falls for the past 15 months.
Besides her mother, with whom she resided, she is survived by a son, Daniel of Beacon Falls; a daughter, Rachelle of Beacon Falls; and two brothers, Robert of New Milford and Christopher of Danbury.
The Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home of Seymour was in charge of arrangements.

Ronald Bourdette, 57, son of New Milford man
Ronald Bourdette, 57, of Coconut Creek, Fla., died Aug. 27 at Northwest Regional Hospital, Margate, Fla. He was the husband of Roseann (Cirenese) Bourdette.
Mr. Bourdette was born Nov. 7, 1943, in Stamford, a son of Leonard T. Bourdette Sr. of New Milford and Dorothy (Knapp) Jacobellis of Clarksville, Ga.
He attended Danbury schools and worked as a locksmith in Florida.
Besides his wife and parents, he is survived by a son, Joseph of Coconut Creek, Fla.; two sisters, Sandra O’Brien of Brookfield and Wanda Lovisek of Clarksville, Ga.; a brother, Leonard T. Bourdette Jr. of New Milford; and several nieces and nephews.
Contributions, in his memory, may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Louis Funk Sr., 76, was local race car driver
Louis Funk Sr., 76, of 38 Avery Road, New Milford, died Sept. 15 at his home after a year long struggle with cancer. He was the husband of Louise (Ferraiolo) Funk.
Mr. Funk was born July 7, 1925, in New Haven, a son of the late Peter and Mary (Shutz) Funk.
He moved to Danbury in 1949 to work for Omaha Beef Co. In 1957, he founded the Dan-Brook Packing Co. which he operated for 40 years. Prior to his retirement in 1997, he passed the business on to his daughter, Sharon Childs.
In the sports world he was one of the racing stars of the Southern New York Racing Association. Known by his fans as the “Flying Butcher,” he drove his 09 and 009 cars for 31 years.
Mr. Funk was a World War II veteran, serving in the United States Army. He fought in the Philippines from 1943 to 1946, receiving the Sharpshooter Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, Bronze Service Arrowhead Medal and two Bronze Service Stars, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon.
Besides his wife of 59 years, he is survived by two sons, Louis Jr. and his wife Marie of Brookfield and Edward of New Milford; two daughters, Karen Pane and her husband Mike of New Milford and Sharon Childs and her husband Jim of New Milford; six grandchildren, Shelley Hanna, Susan Funk, Luanne Awlasewicz, Kristina Stas and Mark and Mathew Pane; and two great-grandchildren, Anthony and Brandon Hanna. He was predeceased by a son, Robert.

Roger Walsh, 76, father of New Milford woman
Roger “Bud” V. Walsh, 76, of 23 Wooster St., Bethel, died Sept. 13 at Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of Lucille (Card) Walsh.
Mr. Walsh was born Jan. 25, 1925, in Norwalk, a son of the late Roger M. and Mary (Reilly) Walsh.
He attended schools in Norwalk and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. As a staff sergeant and nose gunner in a B24, he flew 35 missions over Europe.
Mr. Walsh was married in 1949. He lived in Norwalk and Wilton before moving to Bethel in 1967.
He was a carpenter all his life and retired in 1987. Prior to his illness, he worked for one year at Fair Honda in Danbury as a courtesy van driver.
Mr. Walsh was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church, Bethel, and he was appointed “Clerk of the Works” for the construction of the new church in 1995.
In October, 2000, he was awarded his high school diploma by the city of Norwalk at a special ceremony for veterans who left school for military service before graduating.
He enjoyed traveling and golf and had served on the original Golf Authority in Bethel.
Besides his wife of 52 years, he is survived by five sons, Roger and his wife Dianne, Daniel and his wife Melissa of Bethel, Gerard and his wife Karen of New Milford, Kevin and his wife Diana of North Charleston, S.C., and Sean and his wife Holly of Wickford, R.I.; three daughters, Maureen Kavall and Janet Walsh of Bethel and Kathleen Mastrich of New Milford; two brothers, James of Bethel and Thomas of Norwalk; a sister, Mary Burke of Clearwater, Fla.; and 15 grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Joan Hall, a brother, Joseph, and a granddaughter, Sarah Kavall.
The Bethel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut, 30 West St., Danbury, CT 06810; or to the St. Mary’s Church Building Fund, 24 Dodgingtown Road, Bethel, CT 06801.

Mary Abdella, 87, was mother of area residents
Mary A. Abdella, 87, of 19 Main St., Danbury, wife of the late Joseph J. Abdella Sr., died Sept. 17 at the Danbury Hospital.
Mrs. Abdella was born in Lawrence, Mass., Sept. 15, 1914, a daughter of the late Najam and Lamia (Malkoun) Moses. She moved with her family during early childhood to Niagara, N.Y., and attended local schools.
A Danbury resident since 1926 coming from Niagara, she continued her education in the Danbury school system and graduated from Danbury High School, Class of 1932, and was the class salutatorian.
Mrs. Abdella was a retired bookkeeper. At the time of her death she was the longest serving Notary Public of the State of Connecticut.
She is survived by two sons, Joseph J. Abdella Jr. of New Preston and James D. Abdella of Southbury; two daughters, Marsha Carolan of Lansing, Mich., and Regina M. Gorman of New Milford; two brothers, Marshall Moses and Miller Moses, both of Danbury; a sister, Mae Demo of Danbury; 10 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Thomas Asmer and Michael J. Moses and three sisters, Minnie “Mae” Jowdy, Manira Ribeiro and Mabel Perrotti.
The Liturgy of the Resurrection will take place today (Friday) at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Maronite Catholic Church, 17 Granville Ave., Danbury. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury.
The Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memorial & Honor Program-F, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905.
