George Weeks, 79, had worked in New Milford
George V. Weeks, 79, of 119 Gilford Ave., Laconia, N.H., died Jan. 2 at the Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia. He was the widower of Carmen (Albrozza) Weeks.
Mr. Weeks was born July 18, 1922, in Mount Kisco, N.Y., the son of William and Rose (O’Hagerty) Weeks.
He had been a resident of the Lakes Region since coming from Danbury, where he had lived for 24 years.
He was employed as a machinist at Winchester Electronics in New Milford for many years.
Mr. Weeks is survived by a son, George and his wife Linn of Laconia; a daughter, Bonnie of Arlington, Mass.; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, John of Arizona; and nieces and nephews.
The Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home of Laconia was in charge of arrangements.

Marie Porter, 78, sister of New Milford resident
Marie Anita Porter, 78, of 63 Dartmouth St., Torrington, died Jan. 2 at Wolcott Hall.
Ms. Porter was born July 11, 1923, daughter of the late Edward and Anne (Boufard) Porter.
She worked at Fitzgerald Manufacturing Co. for 40 years and was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church.
She is survived by two brothers, Robert of Torrington and Richard of Las Cruces, N.M., and a sister, Theresa Burch of New Milford.
The Phalen Funeral Home of Torrington handled arrangements.
Contributions in her memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 300 Research Parkway, Meriden, CT 06450.

Virginia Wheeler, 71, mother of Sherman man
Virginia Ann Wheeler, 71, of Pickens, S.C., wife of Frederic A. Wheeler, died Jan. 4 at Laurel Hills Nursing Home in Pickens.
She was born April 21, 1930, in Bridgeport, daughter of the late Walter Thayer and Ethel Gray.
Mrs. Wheeler was employed as a dental technician before she married her husband. She also did a lot of volunteer work.
She was a homemaker, raising four children in Sandy Hook before retiring to Pickens in 1981.
In addition to her husband of 48 years, she is survived by her daughter, Melissa of Danbury; three sons, Tad of Sherman, Bruce of California and Scott of Michigan; and four grandchildren, Siobhan, Morgan, Sarah and Amy.
A memorial service for the dispersal of her cremains will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
Dillard Memorial Funeral Services in Pickens handled arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to a charity of one’s choice.

Anne Savage, 82, was mother of area residents
Anne M. Savage, 82, of Mallory Street, Danbury, died Dec. 30 at her home. She was the widow of Anthony J. Savage.
Mrs. Savage was born in Litchfield May 20, 1920, daughter of the late William and Nora (Burke) Leonard.
She moved to Danbury when she was 13 and had been a Danbury resident since then. She was a graduate of Danbury High School, Class of 1938. She was a member of St. Joseph Church and a former member of St. Joseph’s Ladies Guild.
She is survived by three daughters, Mary Anne McKenna and her husband Don of New Milford, Kathleen Baker and her companion Jack McCartin of Brewster, Mass., and Joan of Milford; a son, John and his wife Patricia of Washington; five grandchildren, Zachary, Eli and Kathryn Baker, Molly Farrell Savage, and Don McKenna Jr.; a great-grandson, Ian Baker Franzen; a sister, Rita Timon and her husband Patrick of Newark, Del.; and several nieces and nephews.
The Green Funeral Home of Danbury was in charge of arrangements.

Thomas Tenney, 72, stepfather of New Milfordite
Thomas F. Tenney, 72, of 45 Savings St., Waterbury, died Dec. 29 in Waterbury. He was the husband of Charlotte P. (Grohs) Neth Tenney.
Mr. Tenney was born March 4, 1930, in Bridgeport, son of the late William J. and Mary Alice (Flanagan) Tenney.
He was raised and attended schools in Bridgeport. He lived in Waterbury for more than 30 years and worked for the Mitchell-Bates Co. as a machinist in Southbury.
He was also a police officer for four years in Milford and a member of the Army National Guard Reserves.
Besides his wife, Mr. Tenney is survived by two stepsons, Robert Neth of Naugatuck and Glen Rosengrantd of New Milford; two stepdaughters, Karen Neth of Waterbury and Dorothy Kunin of Schewenksville, Pa.; a brother, James of Milford; a sister, Judy Ellis of Cocoa Beach, Fla.; and five step-grandchildren.
The O’Neill Funeral Home of Oakville handled arrangements.

Andre LaFontan Sr., 95, longtime Kent resident
Andre LaFontan Sr., 95, of South Kent died Dec. 31 at The Kent in Kent. He was the widower of Elizabeth (Haas) LaFontan.
Mr. LaFontan was born Sept. 6, 1907, in Bordeaux, France, son of the late Jacque Denise and Marie (Rougaganac) LaFontan.
He came to the United States in 1921. He lived in New York until moving to New Milford and then Kent, where he was carpenter and owner and operator of LaFontan’s Humus for over 50 years.
He and his wife promoted organic growing and healthy living to thousands of people over the years.
He is survived by two sons, Andre Jr. and Denis of South Kent; a brother, Jean of Nevada; a sister, Denise of Bordeaux, France; five grandchildren, Vincent and Lyle of Kent, Luke and Bret of New York, and Rebecca Manning of South Kent; and three great-grandchildren, Olivia and Abigail of Kent and Ben of New York.
The Lillis Funeral Home of New Milford was in charge of arrangements.

Susan B. Beardsley, 62, was a New Milford native
Susan (Brutz) Beardsley, 62, of 14 Mountain Laurel Road, New Milford, died Dec. 30 at New Milford Hospital.
Mrs. Beardsley was born April 17, 1940, in New Milford, a daughter of the late John and Gareretta (Camp) Brutz.
She graduated from New Milford High School and attended business school at the University of Tennessee. She was employed by Mosler Corporation of Danbury and later worked for the Coca Cola Co. of Florida as a business administrator and executive secretary.
She is survived by three daughters, Lisa Bernard and Vicky Nelson of New Milford and Joy Wochek of Danbury; two sons, John Wochek and Dennis Beardsley Jr. of Danbury; three grandchildren, Lauren Gurry, Garry Nelson and Cassee Bernard; and a great grandson, Ryan McKee. She was predeceased by a brother, Charles Brutz, and a son, Robin Gurry.
The Lillis Funeral Home of New Milford was in charge of arrangements.

Agnes Bruens, 83, longtime Washington resident
Agnes (Main) Bruens, 83, of 47 River Road, Washington, died Dec. 31 at New Milford Hospital. She was the widow of George Bruens.
Mrs. Bruens was born Dec. 6, 1919, in Scotland, and spent her early life in Scotland.
She came to the United States in 1946 and to Washington. She worked at Aerospace Co. in Bantam for a number of years.
She is survived by three sons, Christopher and Sandy of Washington and John of San Diego, and four grandchildren.
The funeral and burial will be held in Scotland.

Michael O’Hare, 73, father of New Milford man
Michael J. O’Hare, 73, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., died Dec. 27. He was the widower of Marilyn (Carey) O’Hare.
Mr. O’Hare was born May 5, 1929, in Yonkers, N.Y., son of the late John and Margaret (Hart) O’Hare.
He was a veteran and served with the United States Navy. He worked as a steam fitter with Local Union 543. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Rhode Island and a past parishioner of St. Joseph Church in Brookfield.
He is survived by three sons, Kevin of New Milford, John of Waterbury and Michael Jr. of Danbury; a daughter, Lynn Ann Gilbert of Danbury; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three sisters, Jacqueline McCormick, Roberta Widdis of Missouri, and Margaret Conway of Florida. He was predeceased by two sisters, Marilyn Harrigan and Alice Elwert.
The Brookfield Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ines Carboni, 90, was mother of New Milford man
Ines T. Carboni, 90, of New Milford, formerly of Ridgefield, died Dec. 18 at New Milford Hospital. She was the widow of John P. Carboni of Ridgefield.
Mrs. Carboni was born Jan. 8, 1912, in Ridgefield, daughter of the late Alberto and Allegrina Servadio. She attended Ridgefield schools.
She is survived by two sons, Paul and his wife Grace of New Milford, and Vincent and his wife Peggy of Maine; five granddaughters, Juliana of New Milford, Lisa and Kristen of Maine, Heidi of Georgia and Nicola of Germany; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church, 36 Main St., New Milford.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the New Milford Visiting Nurse Association, 68 Park Lane Road, New Milford, CT 06776.

Sonnya Longobricco, 61, sister of Bridgewater man
Sonnya Longobricco, 61, of Joe’s Hill Road, Danbury, died Dec. 31 at her home. She was the wife of John Longobricco.
Mrs. Longobricco was born July 27, 1941, in New Berlin, N.Y., daughter of John Rowe of Micco, Fla., and the late Marion (Edwards) Rowe.
She was a graduate of Danbury High School, Class of 1959.
Besides her husband and father, she is survived by a brother, Douglas Rowe of Bridgewater.
Cremation will take place at Charter Oak Crematory Oxford.
The Green Funeral Home of Danbury handled arrangements.

Walter Slater, 47, was a resident of New Milford
Walter J. Slater, 47, of New Milford died Dec. 23 at Hartford Hospital. He was the husband of Linda Slater.
He was an employee of ACH Retail Products in New Milford.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Alex of New Milford, and also by a large and extended family in Pennsylvania and New York.
A memorial service will be held in New Milford at a later date.
The J.F. Rice Funeral Home of Johnson City, N.Y., was in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a custodial account established for Alex’s education, c/o B.S.B. Bank and Trust, 273 Main St., Binghamton, NY 13905.
