Edward B. Norton

Edward B. Norton, age 75, of Bethel, formerly of Norwalk, died on Wednesday at the Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of Catherine V. (Ferrino) Norton.

Mr. Norton was born in Norwalk, CT, Dec. 11, 1923, a son of the late Cyrus and Edith (Baker) Norton. He grew up and attended schools in Norwalk, and had been a resident of Bethel for the past 40 years.

Mr. Norton was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, and later was employed as a delivery driver for the S.S. Tobacco Co. of Norwalk, CT for 25 years, and the Bonadiao Tobacco co. of Danbury, CT for 25 years. Until the time of his illness, Mr. Norton was employed by Stop & Shop Supermarkets of Danbury, CT.

He was a parishioner of the Church of St. Mary, Bethel.

In addition to his wife of over 56 years, Mr. Norton is survived by two sons, James M. Norton, of Bethel, and Paul R. Norton, of Fredericksburg, VA; one brother, Charles H. Norton, of Norwalk, CT; three grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Aug. 6th, at the Church of St. Mary, Bethel, at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Bethel.

The family will receive friends at the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Avenue, Bethel, on Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the St. Mary Church Parish House Building Fund, 237 Greenwood Avenue, Bethel, CT, 06801.

Peter G. Linabury

Peter G. Linabury, 33, died on August 5, 1999 as the result of an automobile accident on I-84. He lived at 17 Housman St. in Danbury, Conn.

Mr. Linabury was born in Danbury on June 12, 1966, son of Ogden K. Linabury of New Milford and Patricia Lesko Linabury of Danbury. He attended Danbury schools and graduated from Danbury High School, Class of 1984. He also graduated from Central Connecticut State University in 1989, and was presently a member of the Masters of Education program at the University of Bridgeport.

Mr. Linabury was a teacher's assistant in the Ansonia school system and worked part time as a waiter at Two Steps Downtown Grille in Danbury. He previously had worked at IBM and Marco International of Ridgefield as an accountant. He attended St. Peter Church in Danbury and was an avid sports fan and golfer. He volunteered as umpire for the Little League baseball program of Middlebury, Conn.

Besides his parents, Mr. Linabury is survived by his brother, David M. and sister-in-law Karen of Litchfield, Conn.; his brother, Mark D. of Bristol, Conn.; his sister, Monica E. Linabury of El Sobrante, Calif.; a stepbrother, James Fernandez, and a stepsister, Gayle Fernandez, both of New Milford, Conn.; a stepsister, Dian Fernandez of New York City; two aunts; one uncle and several cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, 10:30 a.m., at St. Peter Church in Danbury. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery.

Friends may call on Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury.

Contributions may be made in Mr. Linabury's memory to the Hanahoe Children's Clinic, 205 Main St., Danbury, CT 06810 or to Make a Wish Foundation, 940 White Plain Road, Trumbull, CT 06611.

Regina Evans

Mrs. Regina (Gunzburger) Evans, 79, of 8 Atwood Road in Woodbury, Conn., wife of Wesley G. Evans, died on Wednesday, August 4, 1999 at her home.

Mrs. Evans was born on July 24, 1920 in Munich, Germany, daughter of the late Wilhelm and Sophia (Scherrer) Gunzburger. A former Newtown, Conn. resident for over 20 years, she was one of the founders and a past president, vice president and liaison officer for the Spay and Neuter Association of Newtown.

Besides her husband, she is survived by her son, Dean Evans of Woodbury, Conn.; a daughter, Leslee Bowman of Hopewell Junction, N.Y.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial is private. There are no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Spay and Neuter Association of Newtown, P.O. Box 352, Newtown, CT 06470.

The Woodbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere, Main Street South, Woodbury, Conn. is in charge of arrangements.

Alice J. Tonnessen

Alice J. Tonnessen, 79, of El Cajon, Calif., formerly of Mt. Nebo Road in Newtown, Conn., wife of the late Arnt W. Tonnessen, died on Tuesday, July 27, 1999 at Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa, Calif.

Mrs. Tonnessen was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on September 25, 1919. She was active for many years in the Sons of Norway and the Newtown Senior Center.

She is survived by two sons, Alan Tonnessen of Southbury, Conn. and Arnt H. Tonnessen of El Cajon, Calif.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A private burial will take place in Newtown at the convenience of the family.

Catherine B. Coles

Catherine Booth Sim Coles, 90, passed away peacefully at Silver Lake Center in Bristol, Pennsylvania on Friday, August 6, 1999.

She was born in Aberdeen, Scotland on October 1, 1908, daughter of Isabella (Booth) and William Sim and the youngest of eight children. She was predeceased by her sisters, Eliza and Meggie, her brothers, Edward and Harry and three infant siblings.

Catherine immigrated to the United States in 1929 at the age of 21 following her brother, Edward, and settled in Malden, Massachusetts. She worked for John Hancock Company in Boston for a number of years, married Charles F. Coles, Jr., the oldest of nine children, and after raising her family worked for Jordan Marsh Company until her retirement in 1973. Catherine lived in Melrose, Massachusetts from 1948 until 1989. She was a member of the Melrose Congregational Church and was involved in numerous volunteer activities including with the church, schools, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. She loved gardening and always treasured her rose bushes sent to her from Scotland from her sister, Eliza.

Catherine, a beloved mother, is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Walter Cheney of Newtown; her son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Joan Coles of Duluth, Georgia; four grandchildren, David Cheney of Maplewood, New Jersey; Karen Cheney of Bridgeport, Cindy Coles Oliver of Superior, Colorado and Cheryl Coles Castro of Kailua, Hawaii; six great-grandchildren, Cortland, Kylee and Kianna Castro, Henry and Bruce Oliver and Seanna Cheney; and many nieces and nephews.

Cremation is being arranged by the Molden Funeral Chapel of Bristol, Pennsylvania. There are no calling hours. At a later date Catherine's family will accompany her ashes to her beloved Scotland.

Irma Harriet Walker Layne

Irma Harriet Walker Layne, of Danbury, died Aug. 9, 1999. She was the wife of the late Norman Layne, mother of Barbara Gianfransico, sister of Ernest Walker and grandmother of Jodi Gianfransico.

Friends may call Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien, Wednesday, Aug. 11, from 1 to 2 p.m. A graveside funeral service will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, Darien, at 2 p.m. Donations may be made to your local American Heart Association or a charity of your choice.

Richard E. Tomanio, Sr.

Richard E. Tomanio, Sr., 65, formerly of Danbury, died Saturday in Plantation, Fla.

He was born in Danbury, April 18, 1934, a son of Frank Joseph and Irene Regina (Wandell) Tomanio, Sr.

Mr. Tomanio moved from Danbury to make his home in Florida where he resided for the past 30 years. He worked as a sales man for the Barden Corporation for 40 years. While living in Danbury, Mr. Tomanio was a member of St. Joseph's Church.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Richard Jr. and Diane of Roswell, Ga.; two daughters, Donna Tomanio of Boston, Mass. and Marijean and her husband James Hippelheuser of Cooper City, Fla.; a brother, Frank Tomanio of Modesto, Calif.; and two grandchildren, Jimmy and Katie Hippelheuser.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 40 North Street, Danbury, Connecticut 06810, or the American Heart Association, Connecticut Affiliate Inc., 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, Connecticut 06492.

Calling hours: Wednesday 6 to 9 p.m. at the Tomlinson Homestead, 336 Main Street, Danbury.

Services: Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Tomlinson Homestead. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, Danbury.

Timothy N. Thompson, Sr.

Timothy N. Thompson, Sr., 52, of High Meadow Road, Brookfield, died Aug. 8 at Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of Marylou (Chmelko) Thompson.

Born Jan. 19, 1947 in Danbury, he was the son of the late Walter and Shirley (Travis) Thompson. He graduated from Henry Abbott Technical School in 1965, and was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving during the Vietnam conflict. A lifetime area resident, Mr. Thompson was an electrician employed by Kimberly Clark Corp. of New Milford.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Timothy N. Thompson Jr., of New Milford, Sean Thompson, of Norwalk, Travis Thompson, of Brookfield; a brother, Dr. Walter B. "Dusty" Thompson, Jr., of Spokane, Wash.; and two grandsons, Evrett Nathaniel and Ethan Nicholas. He was predeceased by his sister Joann McHale in 1997.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter Church Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Center Cemetery, New Milford. Friends will be received at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury, Wednesday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Rockina S. D'Armento

The death of Miss Rockina S. D'Armento, of 2125 West New Haven Ave., Melbourne, Fla., formerly of Liberty St., Danbury, occurred at the West Melbourne Health Center, Melbourne, Fla., Saturday. She was 77 years of age.

Born in Newark, N.J., Sept. 20, 1921, the daughter of the late Angelo and Rita Petrella D'Armento, she lived most of her life in Danbury. She attended Danbury schools and was a graduate of Danbury High School, Class of 1939. She later graduated from the Brooklyn Hospital School of Nursing in 1943 as a Registered Nurse. Following her graduation she entered into the Army Nursing Corps where she served as a 2nd Lieutenant in Mindoro, The Philippines, and was a recipient of the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal.

She later worked at the Danbury and New Milford Hospital. She was a member of St. Peter Church in Danbury. She had lived in Florida since 1976.

Surviving are two brothers, Josef D'Armento of Texarkana, Texas and Dominic D'Armento of Danbury.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter Church, Wednesday morning at 10:30. Interment will be in St. Peter Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Tuesday evening from 6 to 8.

Paul V. Ticehurst

Paul V. Ticehurst, 83, of Cape Coral, Fla. and formerly of Danbury, died on Saturday, July 31 at Hospice House in Fort Myers, Fla.

He was born in Beacon, N.Y. and had worked as a quality control engineer for an electronics company. In December 1998, he moved from Danbury to Cape Coral, Fla., and resided with his daughter and son-in-law.

Mr. Ticehurst is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Doris-May and John J. O'Connell; two granddaughters, Janette L. O'Connell of Cape Coral and Colleen Canciani of North Fort Meyers; a grandson, Timothy O'Connell of North Fort Meyers; two sisters, Ruth Hatch and Esther Shanley, both of Connecticut; and a brother, Donald Ticehurst, also of Connecticut. He was predeceased by his wife and a brother.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 14 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Brookfield Center.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in Mr. Ticehurst's name to Hope Hospice, 9470 HealthPark Circle, Fort Meyers, Florida, 33908.

Kath-McFarland-Schmidt Funeral Home, 1910 Del Prado Boulevard, Cape Coral, Fla. is in charge of arrangements.

Martin H. Howley

Martin H. Howley, age 81, husband of the late Julia (Danuszar) Howley, of 5 Laurel Road in Newtown, Conn., died on August 9, 1999 in Mediplex of Danbury.

He was born in Bethel, Conn. on October 27, 1917, son of the late Martin J. and Frances (McLaughlin) Howley. A resident of Newtown for 40 years, Mr. Howley was employed for over 30 years as a supervisor at Noranda Metal Products in Newtown. During World War II he served as a medic in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by two sons, Wayne Howley of Shelton, Conn. and Martin Howley of Danbury; one daughter, Marlene Spremullo of Sandy Hook, Conn.; three sisters, Renee Gakeler of Bethel, Catherine Kroha of New Milford, Conn. and Agnes Mason of Florida; three grandchildren, Jennifer Piccirillo and Jamie and Michael Howley; one great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, 9:30 a.m., from the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St., Newtown, and at 10 a.m. at St. Rose Church in Newtown for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Bethel.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m.

June K. Conant

The death of June K. Conant, 72, of Lillinonah Drive in Brookfield, Conn. occurred at her home on Monday evening, August 9, 1999. She was the wife of Barton C. Conant.

Born in Queens Village, N.Y. on May 15, 1927, daughter of the late Joseph Kohart 2nd and Christine Buehler Kohart, she moved to Garden City, N.Y. where she was a graduate of Garden City High School. She graduated from Centenary College of New Jersey, where she received her associate's degree.

She was married on June 17, 1950. Mrs. Conant had lived in Westport, Conn., moving to Brookfield in 1986. Her married life was devoted to her home and her family. Her husband, children and grandchildren were her greatest pleasures.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Conant is survived by three sons, James R. Conant and Scott C. Conant, both of Brookfield, and Keith A. Conant of Chicago, Ill.; one daughter, Kathy C. O'Shea of Brookfield; two brothers, Calvin Kohart of Garden City, N.Y. and Ralph Kohart of New Jersey; two sisters, Marilyn Smith and Dianne Moody, both of Garden City, N.Y.; seven grandchildren, Michael O'Shea and Kelly, Barton, Stephanie, Daniel, Carolyn and Jeannette Conant; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, 11 a.m., at the Brookfield Congregational Church with the Rev. Susan Latourette officiating. There are no calling hours.

The Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Road, Brookfield is in charge of arrangements.
