Ann Ballard
Ann Ballard, 84, a retired kindergarten and pre-school teacher, died Saturday at the Mariner Health Center, Ansonia, Conn.

Mrs. Ballard, of 318C Heritage Village, Southbury, was the wife of Herbert Lowell Ballard.

She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Aug. 26, 1913, a daughter of Julius and Anna Schmitt Mock.

Mrs. Ballard worked as a teacher in Brooklyn before moving to Heritage Village in 1971.

An active bridge player, Mrs. Ballard organized many of the Heritage Village bridge games. She was also president of both the Pomperaug Ladies Nine Hole Golf Club and the Ducks and Drakes Bowling League.

Mrs. Ballard was a member of the United Church of Christ in Southbury.

Besides her husband, she is survived by three sons, Richard Ballard of Massapequa, N.Y., Joseph Ballard of Jacksonville, Fla., and Peter Ballard of Beacon Falls, Conn.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

CALLING HOURS: Tuesday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Southbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere, 235 Main Street North, Route 6, Southbury.

SERVICES: Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the United Church of Christ, 283 Main Street North, Southbury. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Southbury.'

Catherine M. Colley
Catherine M. Colley, 93, mother of Arthur S. Colley of Danbury, died Saturday at Mediplex of Danbury.

A resident of New Haven and East Haven for most of her life, Mrs. Colley lived at Estelle Road in East Haven. She was the wife of the late Arthur S. Colley.

She was born in Hartford on Jan. 2, 1905, a daughter of Thomas and Alice Andrews Murphy.

Before her retirement in 1970, Mrs. Colley had worked for 35 years at the former National Folding Box Co. of New Haven. She retired as a supervisor.

Mrs. Colley was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Church in East Haven. She was also a member of the East Haven Senior Citizens.

Besides her son in Danbury, her survivors include a daughter, Joan McGuire of Arlington, Va.; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and three nieces and a nephew. She was predeceased by a daughter, Kathleen Sullivan, in 1995, and a grandson, William McGuire, in 1988.

CALLING HOURS: Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury.

SERVICES: Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Green Funeral Home; followed at 11 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph's Church, Danbury. Burial will take place in St. Lawrence Cemetery, New Haven.

Rose DeMartino
Rose DeMartino, 86, a retired seamstress, died Sunday at the home of her daughter, Connie Baglio, in Newtown.

A former resident of New Springville, Staten Island, N.Y., Mrs. DeMartino had lived in New Springville for 30 years before moving to Newtown to live with her daughter a few months ago.

She was the wife of Vincent DeMartino.

Born in New York City on March 25, 1911, she was a daughter of Jerome and Emanuela Vizzi Cirlincione.

Besides her husband and daughter, Mrs. DeMartino is survived by three sons, Louis, Jerome and Robert DeMartino, all of New York City; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

SERVICES: Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Honan Funeral Home; followed at 10:30 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Rose Church, Newtown. Cremation will take place at the convenience of the family.'

Charles M. Young
Charles M. Young, 72, formerly of Danbury, died Friday in New Jersey.

A resident of Oakland, N.J., since 1951, Mr. Young was born in Danbury. He was the husband of Constance Russell Young.

He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and had served in India.

Before his retirement in 1985, Mr. Young was employed for 32 years as an accountant with the Dupont Co. in Pompton Lakes, N.J.

He was a 40-year member of the Ponds Reformed Church in Oakland. He also served as Deacon and Elder at the Church.

Besides his wife, Mr. Young is survived by a son, Gregory Charles Young of Virginia Beach, Va.; two daughters, Nancy Susan Scheiner of Hawthorne, N.J., and Cynthia Rhea Depow of Byram Township, N.J.; and four grandchildren.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Memorial Fund of the Ponds Reformed Church, Oakland, N.J. 07436.

SERVICES: Monday at 2 p.m. at the Ponds Reformed Church, 341 Ramapo Valley Road, Oakland, N.J.

The Oakland Memorial Home, 330 Ramapo Road, Oakland is in charge of arrangements.

Florence Perrone
Florence Pearl Westerfeild Perrone, 74, a former Danbury resident who volunteered at the Community Center, died Sunday in Jacksonville, Fla.

Mrs. Perrone had moved to Jacksonville from Danbury in 1990.

While living in Danbury, she taught parenting classes and sewing skills as a volunteer at the Community Center.

Mrs. Perrone is survived by a daughter, Karen Ann Perrone Borsey of Jacksonville; and a granddaughter, Heather Lee Borsey, also of Jacksonville.

There are no calling hours.

SERVICES: Wednesday at 4 p.m., a memorial service at St. Anne's Episcopal Church, Jacksonville, with the Rev. James C. Cook officiating.

The Johnson-Gaskins Funeral Home of Jacksonville is in charge of arrangements.'

Joseph Riccio
Joseph A. Riccio of 103 Elm St Ext., New Milford, died Monday at New Milford Hospital. He was 88.

Mr. Riccio was the husband of the late Lesuer Riccio.

He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Nov. 16, 1911, a son of Luis and Filomena Puzulla Riccio. A Danbury resident since 1968, Mr. Riccio moved to New Milford in 1994.

By trade a butcher, he owned Joe's Quality Meat Market in Yonkers, N.Y., from 1930 to 1950, later worked for Pathmark in Hartsdale, N.Y., and then became a butcher at The Red Brick General Store in Newtown. He was a member of the Amalgamated Meat Cutters and Butcher Workmen of North America, Union Local 189.

An Army veteran of World War II, he was a former commander of both Charles Bayart Post 1122 of the American Legion in Yonkers and Post No. 60 of the American Legion in Danbury. His work with the group included helping to organize the Memorial Day Parade, and helping form the Gold Star Mothers _ which chauffeurs mothers who lost children in war to participate in Memorial Day activities. A member of the group for 37 years, he was elected a life member in 1984.

Survivors include a son, John McDonald of Yorktown Heights, N.Y.; two daughters, Marlene Liggio of Derby and Philomena Giannone of New Milford; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

CALLING HOURS: Wednesday, 7 to 9 p.m., Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge St., New Milford.

SERVICES: Thursday, 10:30 a.m., from the funeral home to a Mass of Christian Burial, 11 a.m., St. Francis Xavier Church. Burial in St. Francis Cemetery, New Milford.

Doris Wilbur Raney
Doris Wilbur Raney Ph.D., 92, a geologist with a doctorate from the University of Iowa, died Sunday at Prescott House, North Andover, Mass.

Until recently, Mrs. Raney lived with her daughter, Nancy M. Desmond, in Brookfield. She had previously been a longtime resident of West Orange, Mass.

She was the wife of the late J. Halbert Raney.

Born in Framingham, Mass., July 16, 1905, she was the only child of Edwin P. and Bertha Haynes Wilbur.

She was a 1927 graduate of Boston University and received a doctorate in geology from the University of Iowa.

As a geologist, she was active with the Westminster Club. She and her husband designed geological exhibits for the Texaco Pavilion at the 1933 World's Fair.

Mrs. Raney was a homemaker for her family and had been married 57 years when her husband died in 1988.

She was a member of the Orange Women's Club.

Besides her daughter in Brookfield, Mrs. Raney is survived by two sons, James E. Raney of of North Andover, Mass., and Dr. Jay A. Raney of Round Rock, Texas; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will take place at the convenience of the family. Burial will take place in West Orange Cemetery, Mass.'

James E. Hodge
James E. Hodge, 58, a former Danbury resident, died Saturday at Waterbury Hospital.

A resident of Waterbury for the past 15 years, Mr. Hodge lived at 98 Dikeman Street. He was the husband of the late Susan Pannozza Hodge.

He was born in Danbury, Feb. 26, 1939, a son of Doris Ismay Hodge of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and the late Albert O. Hodge Sr.

A 1958 graduate of Henry Abbott Technical School, he majored in carpentry.

In Waterbury, Mr. Hodge was employed by the Waterbury Public School System as a custodian at the Kingsbury Elementary School.

Besides his mother, he is survived by three daughters, Tracey M. Gonzalez, Jacqueline L. Hodge and Cynthia A. Hodge, all of Danbury; a son, James E. Brown of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two sisters, Muriel Messiah of Brooklyn and Beverly DeSouza of Ft. Lauderdale; a brother, Eugene Hodge of Natalbany, La.; six grandchildren; a great-grandson; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

CALLING HOURS: Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 12 noon at the Victory Christian Center, 23 Eden Drive, Danbury.

SERVICES: Wednesday at 12 noon at the Victory Christian Center with the Rev. Bobby Gardner officiating. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family.

The Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Ave., Danbury is in charge of arrangements.

Lois Hanford
Lois Hanford, 74, a retired assembler, died Monday at Bethel Healthcare.

Mrs. Hanford was the wife of the late John Hanford.

She was born in Newburgh, N.Y., Aug. 11, 1923, a daughter of Ira L. and Grace E. Kaysser Rembleton. She moved to Danbury during her youth.

Before her retirement, Mrs. Hanford was employed by the former Unimation Corporation of Danbury which is now a division of the Westinghouse Corporation.

An avid bowler, Mrs. Hanford bowled at the former Bowl-a-Rama in Danbury, the former Holiday Bowl and the Brookfield Lanes, both in Brookfield, the former Brewster Lanes and the Westport Lanes.

She was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons.

Her survivors include a daughter, Darleen Hanford of Naugatuck, Conn.; a granddaughter, Dawn R. Peterson of Danbury; a sister, Katheryn E. Halsted of Danbury; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Contributions in her memory may be made to Bethel Healthcare, 13 Park Lawn Drive, Bethel 06801.

SERVICES: Friday at 10 a.m., graveside services at 10 a.m. in Wooster Cemetery, 20 Ellsworth Ave., Danbury with the Rev. Gordon Illausky, Pastor of Zion Lutheran Church of Waterbury, officiating. Friends are invited to assemble at the cemetery office on Friday prior to 9:50 a.m.

The Tomlinson Homestead, 336 Main St., Danbury is in charge of arrangements.'

Diniz Vidinha
Diniz Vidinha, 76, a retired construction laborer, died Sunday at Mediplex of Danbury.

Mr. Vidinha, of 22 Balmforth Ave., Danbury, was the husband of Maria Pacheco Vidinha.

He was born in St. Michael, Azores, Portugal, Sept. 5, 1921, a son of Jose de Medeiros and Maria Deus Furtado Vidinha.

Mr. Vidinha moved to the United States in 1966 and had been a Danbury resident since that time.

Before his retirement, he worked for the Morganti Company and other area construction firms.

He was a member of St. Joseph Church and the Portuguese American Club.

Besides his wife, Mr. Vidinha is survived by four sons, John Vidinha of Hamden, N.H., Carols Vidinha of Downey, Calif., and Joseph and Mario Vidinha, both of Danbury; three daughters, Maria Marks of Port Allegany, Pa., and Marta Rainha and Ana Medeiros, both of Danbury; three brothers, Austino de Medeiros Vidinha of Boston, Mass., Antonio de Medeiros of Providence, R.I., and Joao de Medeiros Vidinha of Toronto, Canada; and two sisters, Ermelinda de Medeiros Vidinha and Mafalda de Medeiros Vidinha, both of Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal.

CALLING HOURS: Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury.

SERVICES: Thursday at 9:20 a.m. at the Green Funeral Home; followed at 10 a.m. with a Moss of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Church. Burial will take place in St. Peter Cemetery.

Emmy Herrmann
Emmy Herrmann, 83, a resident of Patterson and a member of the Carmel Senior Citizens, died Monday at the Putnam Hospital Center in Carmel.

Mrs. Herrmann was the wife of the late Charles Herrmann who she married in Carmel in 1957. She lived in Carmel until moving to Patterson in 1984.

She was born in Germany, Jan. 12, 1914, a daughter of Mary Greenbaum. She attended schools in Germany.

Mrs. Herrmann was a homemaker.

She was a member of St. James the Apostle Church in Carmel.

Her survivors include her cousins, Werner and Rosa Schug of Mahopac, N.Y.

There are no calling hours.

SERVICES: Wednesday at 10 a.m. a Mass of Christian Burial at St. James the Apostle Church, Carmel. Burial will take place in Raymond Hill Cemetery, Carmel.

The Dwyer Funeral Home, South Street, Patterson is in charge of arrangements.
