Walter George Petkin
Walter George Petkin, 68, a retired auditor, died Thursday while walking with his wife in Harry Brooke Park in New Milford.

Mr. Petkin, of 58 Ironworks Hill Road, Brookfield, was the husband of Margaret E. Chepiga Petkin.

He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Feb. 22, 1929, a son of Walter and Anna Dragwa Pietkiewicz. He attended Brooklyn schools and graduated in 1961 from Pace University with a degree in business administration.

A veteran of the Korean War, he served with the Army Quartermaster Corps.

He lived in Ozone Park, N.Y., for 20 years before moving to Brookfield in 1976.

Before his retirement in 1987, Mr. Petkin had been employed for 20 years as an internal auditor for IBM in New York City and Fishkill, N.Y.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Brookfield and the Newbury Men's Club.

As a professional musician, he played for several years in New York clubs. Mr. Petkin recently played at various convalescent homes in the area.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Paul W. Petkin of Philadelphia, Pa., and Philip J. Petkin of New Milford; two daughters, Dorothy A. Douwes of Quakertown, Pa., and Joyce E. Phillips of Abington, Pa., a sister, Victoria Cikana of Bordentown, N.J.; two grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.

Contributions in his memory may be made to St. Joseph's Church, 159 Whisconier Road, Brookfield 06804.

CALLING HOURS: Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Road, Brookfield.

SERVICES: Monday at 10:30 a.m., a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph's Church, Brookfield. Cremation will follow.

Father Kieran Ahearn
Father Kieran Ahearn, O.F.M., Cap., 60, a Capuchin Franciscan friar who had served St. Mary's Parish in Bethel, died Wednesday in Wappingers Falls, N.Y.

He was born as Thomas Ahearn in Yonkers, N.Y., on Feb. 28, 1937, a son of Teresa Ahearn of Wappingers Falls and the late Thomas Ahearn.

Father Ahearn entered the Capuchin Franciscans in 1955, first professed in 1956, perpetually professed in 1959 and was ordained in Sacred Heart Church in Yonkers on Jan. 11, 1964. He graduated from St. Anthony's College in Hudson, N.H., and received his theological training at Mary Immaculate Friary in Garrison, N.Y.

His ministerial experiences included parochial assistant, vocation promoter and chapel assistant. He served in parishes in New York, New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

From 1971 to 1981, Father Ahearn served a hospital ministry in several health facilities in the Diocese of Rockville Centre. He also served as Guardian from 1978 to 1981 of the local Capuchin fraternity at St. Anne's Friary in Smithtown, N.Y.

He then served as pastor and guardian of the Capuchin Church and Friary of St. Pius X in Middletown, Conn. He also continued to offer parochial assistance to St. Luke's Parish in Westport and St. Mary's Parish in Bethel.

Besides his mother, Father Ahearn is survived by two sisters, Lee Almeida of Wappingers Falls and Arlene Wales of Bethel; and several nieces and nephews.

CALLING HOURS: Wake services will be on Friday at the Friary of Saint Clare, 110 Shonnard Place, Yonkers, N.Y., under the direction of the Whalen-Ball Funeral Home of Yonkers.

SERVICES: Saturday at 11 a.m., a Mass of Christian Burial at the Monastery Church of the Sacred Heart, 110 Shonnard Place, Yonkers.

Grace Watters
Grace Watters, 76, a native of Ireland and resident of the Danbury area since 1966, died Wednesday at the Pope John Paul Center for Health Care.

Formerly of Linda Lane, Bethel, Mrs. Watters was the wife of the late James Watters.

She was born in Glenties, County Donegal, Ireland, on Feb. 10, 1921, a daughter of William and Mary Given McMonagle. She was educated in Ireland.

She came to the United States in 1963 and lived in Chestnut Hill, Pa., for three years before moving to Danbury.

Mrs. Watters was a housekeeper at Mother of Consolation Rectory in Chestnut Hill. She was also a member of Mother of Consolation Church.

Her survivors include a daughter, Grannia Watters Goodman of Herndon, Va.; a sister, Josephine McCann of Philadelphia; three sisters and a brother in Ireland; a sister in England; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Commission on Child Rights and Abuse, 261 Main St., Danbury 06810.

There are no calling hours.

SERVICES: Saturday at 10:30 a.m., a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter Church. Cremation will follow with cremains to be buried in Ireland.

The Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury is in charge of arrangements.

George Walker 2nd
George Rivers Pickney Walker 2nd, 85, a retired product manager, died Tuesday at the Glen Hill Convalescent Center in Danbury.

Mr. Walker lived at Glen Crest, Glen Hill Road, Danbury. He was the husband of Suzanne St. Clair Walker. He lived in Westport for 43 years before moving to Danbury just two months ago.

He was born in Flushing, N.Y., on Feb. 26, 1912, a son of George R.P. and Mary Persall Wright Walker Sr.

Mr. Walker attended New York University.

Before his retirement, he was product manager for 30 years for the Johns Manville Corporation in New York City.

Mr. Walker was a member of Green Farms Church in Westport.

Besides his wife, Mr. Walker is survived by a son, George P. Walker 3rd of Seattle, Wash.; two daughters, Suzanne Scofield of Salem, Ore., and Mary Bess Dacey of Fairfield; seven grandchildren; a great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

There are no calling hours.

Memorial services will be conducted at a later date.

Cremation will be at the convenience of the family.

Margaret Cameron Staib, 91, a life member of Shasta #690 Order of the Eastern Star, died Thursday at New Milford Nursing Home.

A resident of New Milford, Mrs. Staib is the wife of the late Carl F. Staib.

She was born in Johnston, Scotland, on Oct. 23, 1906, a daughter of Alexander and Annie Cameron.

She was a graduate of Commerce High School in Yonkers, N.Y. She was a member of the Bryn Mawr Park Presbyterian Church and an active member of the church choir. She lived in Yonkers until moving to New Milford.

Mrs. Staib is survived by a son, Charles F. Staib of New Milford; a daughter, Anne S. Goetze of Colton, N.Y.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Bryn Mawr Park Presbyterian Church, 20 Buckingham Ave., Yonkers, N.Y.

CALLING HOURS: Sunday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Colonial Funeral Home, 87 Park Lane Road, New Milford.

SERVICES: Sunday at 8:30 p.m. at the Colonial Funeral Home. Burial will take place on Monday at 11 a.m. in Mount Hope Cemetery, Yonkers, N.Y.

Jamie M. Amaral
Jamie M. Amaral, 72, a retired machine operator, died Wednesday at Danbury Hospital.

Mr. Amaral, of 139 Triangle St., Danbury, was the husband of Ilda dos Santos Amaral.

Born in Ribamondego, Portugal, on April 10, 1925, he was a son of Jose and Diolinda dos Santos Amaral.

He was educated in Portugal and served in the Army of Portugal.

Mr. Amaral came to the United States in 1969 and has been a resident of Danbury since that time.

Before his retirement in 1987, he was employed at the former Eagle Pencil Company of Danbury.

He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and the Sons of Portugal Club.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Armando J. Amaral of New Milford; a daughter, Isilda A. Fernandes of Danbury; two sisters, Palmira dos Santos Rodrigues of Brazil and Maria Augusta dos Santos Ferreira of France; two granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.

Contributions in his memory may be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 149 Deer Hill Ave., Danbury 06810.

CALLING HOURS: Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury.

SERVICES: Saturday at 9:20 a.m. at the Green Funeral Home; followed at 10 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery.

Frank P. Perrotti
Frank P. Perrotti, 57, a Danbury native, died Thursday at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center.

Mr. Perrotti, of Clay Hill Road, Hoosick, N.Y., was the husband of Janet Chirasello Perrotti.

He was born in Danbury on July 23, 1940, a son of Frank and Mabel Moses Perrotti. He was educated at St. Peter's School.

Until his retirement, Mr. Perrotti was employed at the Immaculate Conception Church in Hoosick Falls where he was the sexton and also was the caretaker of St. Mary's Cemetery.

Mr. Perrotti was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church.

Besides his wife, Mr. Perrotti is survived by a daughter, Penny Stoddard of Elizaville, N.Y.; a sister, Linda Waldo of Brookfield; a brother, Thomas Perrotti of Virginia Beach, Va.; seven nieces and nephews; and five great-nieces and great-nephews.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Make A Wish Foundation through the funeral home.

CALLING HOURS: Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main St., Hoosick Falls, N.Y.

SERVICES: Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the Mahar Funeral Home; followed at 10 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at the Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will take place at the family's convenience.

Patricia Morey Small
Patricia Morey Small, 59, a longtime area resident, died Sunday at her home.

Mrs. Small, of 255 Kent Road, New Milford, was the wife of the late James Small.

She was born in Lake Carmel, N.Y., on March 8, 1938, a daughter of George and Anna Williams Morey.

After spending her early life in Brooklyn, N.Y., she lived in Washington, Conn., from 1956 until she moved to New Milford in 1986.

Mrs. Small was employed at the former Anderson Cleaners of Washington. She later worked for Sanda's Cleaners.

Her survivors include a daughter, Stacy I. Small of New Milford; a sister, Rosemarie Harris of Danbury; and an aunt, Mary Morey of Torrington.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Nelson Gelfman Dialysis Unit, c/o Danbury Hospital, 24 Hospital Ave., Danbury 06810, or to the charity of one's choice.

Memorial services took place yesterday at the Bible Baptist Church in New Milford. Burial will be in the spring in Judea Cemetery, Washington.

The Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge St., New Milford is in charge of arrangements.
