Kenneth Jewell Jr.

Kenneth E. "Ted" Jewell Jr., 69, of Corinth, VT, died April 19, 2000 at his home. He was born July 22, 1930, in Bradford, VT, the son of Kenneth E. and Mary A. (Rowland) Jewell.

He worked for Gilbert & Bennett Manufacturing in Georgetown, CT, as a wire weaver for more than 33 years, retiring in 1987. After his retirement, the Jewells moved from New Milford, CT, to Corinth. He was a member of the Corinth Bible Church, where he taught Bible Study and was a former member of the New Milford Church of Christ.

He leaves his wife, Marilyn (Hayward) Jewell; a son, Keith Jewell of New Milford; 2 daughters, Valerie Mazzarella of Corinth and Judy Simoneau of New Milford; 3 brothers, Jack Jewell of Dover, NH, Jeffrey Jewell of Richmond, VT, and Anthony Jewell of Port Charlotte, FL; 3 sisters, Patricia Armell of Chiefland, FL, Joanne Richardson of Bradenton, FL, Nancy Fornwalt of Bradford, VT; 8 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held April 24, 2000, 2 p.m., at the Corinth Bible Church, Corinth Center, VT. Burial will follow in the Corinth Center Cemetery. There are no calling hours.

Donations may be made to The Bradford Visiting Nurse Alliance, Bradford, VT 05033, or to The American Cancer Society, Vermont Division, 13 Loomis St., Montpelier, VT 05602.

Arrangements are with the Boardway & Cilley Funeral Home, Chelsea, VT.

Irene Kirk Barrett

Irene Kirk Barrett, 82, of Danbury, wife of the late William V. Barrett, died Thursday, April 20, 2000, at Danbury Hospital.

Born on Sept. 5, 1917, in East Hartford, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret (Murray) Kirk. She attended St. Joseph Grammar School and graduated from Danbury High School.

Mrs. Barrett had been employed for 10 years in the receiving department of the former Genungs Department Store. She also worked for Barden Corp., retiring in 1982 after 32 years of service.

She was a member of St. Joseph Church of Danbury.

Surviving are a sister, Agnes Post of Danbury, and four nieces and nephews, Maureen Wright, J. Thomas Melvin, Robert Melvin and Margaret Ann Pepin; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, Monday afternoon at 12:30 p.m. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery.

Friends will be received at the Green Funeral Home Sunday afternoon from 4 to 6 p.m.

Margaret Speranza

Margaret "Maggie" Speranza, 38, of Westport, wife of Maverick R. Speranza, died Wednesday, April 19, in Norwalk Hospital.

Mrs. Speranza was born in Norwalk and had been a resident of Westport for the past twelve years. She is a former resident of Redding. Mrs. Speranza received her bachelor of science in nursing from Western Connecticut State University School of Nursing and was a registered nurse at Norwalk Hospital. She was also a nurse at Danbury Hospital from 1983 through 1986. Mrs. Speranza was predeceased by one sister, Jennifer Blum Miller.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include one son, Zackary R. Speranza of Westport; her father and mother, Robert and Mary Blum of Redding; and one sister, Erika Johnson of Boston, Mass.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service, Monday, April 24 at 2 p.m. in Saint Paul Lutheran Church, 41 Easton Rd., Westport, with the Rev. Paul N.E. Teske officiating. Interment will be private. The Harding Funeral Home, 210 Post Road East, Westport, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Margaret L. Speranza to Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, 5005 LBJ Freeway, Suite 370, Dallas, TX 75244.

Albert T. Johnson

Albert T. Johnson, age 92, of East Hampton, N.Y., formerly of Danbury, died Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at the West Hampton Health Care Facility. He was the husband of Marion Valentine Johnson.

Born Aug. 21, 1907 in Manhattan, he was a son of the late Albert A. and Elizabeth Arnest Johnson. He was educated at New Rochelle, N.Y., High School.

Mr. Johnson was the owner of A.T. Johnson & Sons Propane Gas Service of Danbury for more than 50 years. He moved to East Hampton in 1993.

He was a life member of Citizen's Hose Company in Danbury.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Lee A. Johnson of East Hampton, N.Y., and A. Thomas Johnson of Sarasota, Fla.; two grandchildren and three nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted yesterday at Yardley & Pino Funeral Home in Sag Harbor, N.Y. Cremation services were private. Memorial donations may be made to Nature Conservancy, P.O. Box 5125, East Hampton, NY 11937.

Muriel G. Henze

Muriel F. Henze died April 20, 2000, at Harborside Glen Hill Convalescent Home at the age of 80. She was the wife of the late John C. Henze and lived at Sunset Drive in New Fairfield since 1964.

From 1947 to 1964 she and her husband lived at Candlewood Shores in Brookfield. Mrs. Henze was born in New York City, November 18, 1919, a daughter of the late Frank and Mary Devlin Griffin and received her education there.

She worked at the Westchester County Payroll Department as Supervisor until her retirement and was a member of St. Edward the Confessor Church in New Fairfield. She also was a volunteer for Friends of the Library in New Fairfield.

Mrs. Henze is survived by her son John; granddaughters Yasmine Nora Henze, Persis Diane Henze and Saffron Emily Henze, all of New Fairfield, and her sister, Rose Holland of Stissingville, N.Y.

Funeral services will be held at The Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury, on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. with the Rev. Liam Quinlan officiating. Cremation will take place at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the Cornell Memorial on Saturday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Rodger A. Gentile

Rodger A. Gentile, age 76, of 58 Sea Fern Drive, Leesburg, Fla., died Tuesday, April 18, 2000.

Mr. Gentile was born in Altoona, Pennsylvania, and had moved to central Florida in 1987. A public school teacher, he had worked in the Stamford area for many years.

He was a graduate of Central Connecticut State University, a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Leesburg.

Survivors include his two sons, Ronald A. of Crossville, Tenn., and Steven R. of New Orleans, La.; his brother, John of Blue Island, Ill.; his sister, Lucy Algeria of Tavares, Fla.; and his granddaughter, Jenna Gentile.

The Steverson-Hamlin & Hilbish Funeral Home of Tavares is in charge of arrangements.

Catherine Lato

Catherine Lato of Brewster, NY, age 92, died Thursday, April 20, 2000, in Carmel, NY.

Mrs. Lato was born January 25, 1908 in Italy to Antonio and Angela (Brancato) Pellicano. She had graduated from schools in Italy before coming to America in 1925.

Mrs. Lato married Louis Lato on April 13,1925 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in the Bronx. Mr. Lato died in 1964.

Mrs. Lato was a crochet beader for the Seven Sisters Olympia Embroidery Co. in Manhattan for many years. She had lived in the Bronx for many years until moving to Brewster eight years ago.

Mrs. Lato is survived by four daughters, Mary Zema, Angeline Merlino and Nellie Tavino all of Brewster and Elizabeth Zaneri of Medford, NJ. A sister, Concetta Feno of Italy. Also fourteen grandchildren and twenty two great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Monday, April 24, 2000, 10 a.m., at St. Lawrence O'Toole Church, Brewster. Interment at St. Lawrence O'Toole Cemetery, Brewster.

Friends may call at the Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster, on Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Msgr. Edward A. McCabe Scholarship Fund, St. Lawrence Council, Knights of Columbus, Box 268, Brewster, NY 10509.

Leonard W. Hartell

Leonard W. Hartell, age 68, of 17 Cantebury Court, Brookfield, husband of Anna (Davis) Hartell, died at his home April 20, 2000.

Mr. Hartell was born in Danbury, Nov. 22, 1931, a son of the late Andrew and Dorothy (Jackson) Hartell.

A U.S. Navy veteran, he served during the Korean Conflict.

He was plant supervisor for Financial Pass Book of Bethel before retiring after numerous years of service.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Jeffrey Hartell of Brookfield; a brother, Charles Hartell of Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

His son, Robert L. Hartell, predeceased him on Jan. 16, 2000.

Services will be held at St. James Church Memorial Garden Saturday, April 29, at 11 a.m.

Cremation will take place at the convenience of the family.

There are no calling hours.

Elizabeth T. Repko

Elizabeth T. (Erdmann) Repko, age 76, of 11 Cedar St., Danbury, died Thursday afternoon at Danbury Hospital from a long battle with breast cancer, and recently leukemia.

Mrs. Repko was the widow of George A. Repko.

Mrs. Repko was born in Danbury on June 30, 1923, the daughter of the late Helen and Carl Erdmann of Danbury.

She attended St. Joseph's School and Danbury High School. She was a member of St. Gregory the Great Church and was one of the founding families of St. Gregory's.

Elizabeth was a housewife and also administrative secretary for the George A. Repko Plumbing and Heating Company.

She was a member of the Brookfield Business Professional Women's Organization, holding many offices including Past President. She also was a member of the Women's Auxiliary Plumbing Heating Cooling Contractors, serving as President twice She was also a member of AARP.

She is survived by two sons, George of Danbury, James of Brookfield, daughter-in-law Deanna of Brookfield, sister June Judson of Danbury and brother Carl of Fall River, Mass., and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Gregory the Great Church Monday morning at 11. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery.

Friends will be received at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut, 30 West St., Danbury, CT 06810; and the American Cancer Society, 372 Danbury Road, Wilton, CT 06897.

Robert D. Lynch

Robert Daniel Lynch, 67, of 15 Dogwood Drive, New Milford, husband of Anna (Strelez) Lynch, died Friday at New Milford Hospital.

Mr. Lynch was born in New Milford, May 14, 1932, a son of the late Martin and Marion (Garvey) Lynch. He graduated from New Milford High School and was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Church in New Milford.

A U.S. Army veteran, he served during the Korean War.

Gardening and sports were among his favorite pastimes.

Mr. Lynch was the owner and operator of Lynch Insulation, Co. for many years before retiring.

Besides his wife, Mr. Lynch is survived by four daughters, Karen A. Fumal of New Milford, Kathleen L. Chapman of Watertown, Nancy L. Dominello of Southington and Maureen L. Shively of Louisville, Colo.; three brothers, M. James Lynch of New Milford, Richard H. Lynch of Bridgewater and Eugene Lynch of Kent; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be conducted Monday at 9 a.m. from the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge St., New Milford, to a 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Francis Xavier Church. Interment will be in St. Francis Cemetery, New Milford.

Friends may call at the Lillis Funeral Home Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.
