Helen Guffey Olivett

Helen Guffey Olivett, a lifelong resident of Brewster, NY, died Monday, April 24, 2000 in New Milford, CT. She was 81.

Mrs. Olivett was born November 1, 1918, in New Fairfield, CT, to Festus and Edith May (Joyce) Eastwood. She had attended schools in North Salem and Purdys.

Mrs. Olivett was predeceased by her husband Roy Guffey and later her son Ronald Guffey in 1993. Her second husband, Mr. James Lewis Olivett died in 1995.

Mrs. Olivett is survived by a sister, Ruth C. Booth of Carmel, NY; and two granddaughters, Pamela Goethner of New Preston, CT, and Barbara Guffey of Florida. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at 1:00 p.m. at Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster. Interment at Milltown Rural Cemetery, Brewster. Friends may call at the funeral home, on Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Contributions in her memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Gift Processing Center, 149 Madison Avenue, New York, NY 10016.

Lucy Thompson Lee

Lucy Thompson Lee, 93, of Danbury, died April 21, 2000, at Hancock Hall in Danbury.

The daughter of the late Cyrus Alexander Thompson and Bessie Vaughn, Mrs. Lee also was preceded in death by her husband Avis Lee and her brother James Thompson.

Survivors include her two daughters, Elizabeth DeLambert of Brookfield and Virginia Owens of Lake Lotawana, Missouri; her son, Richard Lee of Hartford; two brothers, Billy and Joe Thompson, both of Columbus, Mississippi; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Lee was a 1928 graduate of the Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, Miss., and a member of Westavia Hills United Methodist Church in Birmingham, Alabama.

Services were conducted Monday in Columbus with the Rev. John Thomas and Bill Mauldin officiating. Burial was in Friendship Cemetery, Columbus. Pallbearers were Mark Lee, Mike Taylor, Vernon Thompson, Jimmy Thompson, Jody Thompson, Johnny Thompson and Robert Lee.

The Gunter & Peel Funeral Home of Columbus was in charge of arrangements.

Edward L. King

Edward L. King of Brewster, N.Y., died Monday, April 24, in Carmel, N.Y. He was 71.

Born Jan. 4, 1929 on Crosby Avenue in Brewster, he was the son of the late Isaac L. and Emma (Wiseman) King. He attended Brewster schools and served in the Army Artillery Unit from 1949 to 1953.

Mr. King worked for the New York Central and Metro North New Haven railroad lines for 47 years, retiring in 1995.

He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 71 in Brewster and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.

Surviving are his wife Marlene (Makerer) of Brewster; two daughters, Sharon Sciortino of Carmel and Susan Frank of Essex Junction, VT; a son, Steven King of Wingdale, N.Y.; two sisters, Vera Reed of Riverside, CA, and Bertha Simeone of New Haven; and eight grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Ave., Brewster, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Raymond Lightcup officiating. Interment will follow in Milltown Rural Cemetery.

Janet Cougle Dorwin

Janet Cougle Dorwin, 84, of 44 Dorwin Hill Road, New Milford, CT, died at New Milford Nursing Home, April 22, 2000. She is the widow of Melville H. Dorwin.

Mrs. Dorwin was born December 9, 1915, in Danbury, CT, a daughter of the late Albert and Isabelle Melville Cougle. Mrs. Dorwin devoted her life to her family and was a member of the Bible Baptist Church, New Milford, CT.

Mrs. Dorwin is survived by a daughter, Jane Dorwin Pokrywka of St. Petersburg, FL; a grandson, Louis Melville Pokrywka of New Milford, CT; a granddaughter, Robin Jane Starnes of Ozona, FL; two great-granddaughters, Madison T. Starnes of Ozona, FL, and Sara J. Pokrywka of New Milford, CT; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held Friday morning, April 28, 2000, at 11 o'clock at the Bible Baptist Church, New Milford, CT. Burial will be in Center Cemetery, New Milford. The family will receive friends in the Colonial Funeral Home, 87 Park Lane Road, New Milford, Thursday evening from 7 until 9 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Bible Baptist Church, 126 Kent Road, New Milford, CT 06776.

Arnold G. Lounsbury

Arnold G. Lounsbury, 88, a former resident of Danbury for many years, died January 31, 2000, at his home in San Leandro, CA. He had lived in San Leandro for the past 50 years, where prior to his retirement, he had been employed as a machinist in the cannery business.

Mr. Lounsbury was born in Danbury on July 12, 1911, a son of the late Frank G. and Mary L. Jackson Lounsbury.

In California, he was a member of Island City Lodge No. 215; Aahmes Temple; and the Scottish Rite of Oakland.

He is survived by two brothers, Eugene Lounsbury of San Leandro and Francis Lounsbury of Prinston, W.VA; a sister, Betty Jones of Oregon; a granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Annie Schlichting of Wilton.

Mr. Lounsbury was predeceased by his wife, Marion Terris Lounsbury, and his daughter, Marion Lounsbury Dunham.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 28, in Central Cemetery, Brookfield. The Rev. Kenneth E. White, pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Brewster, NY, will officiate.

Gilda Legendre

Gilda (Visalli) Legendre, formerly of Danbury, died unexpectedly April 21, 2000. She was the wife of the late Lawrence Legendre.

Gilda was born July 31, 1924 and she had lived in Danbury for nearly 20 years before she and her husband moved to Orlando, Fla., for their retirement.

There are no calling hours. Cremation took place at the convenience of the family. A family gathering will take place at a later date.

Frances J. Stasieluk

Frances J. Stasieluk, 79, of 17 Barnard Road, Patterson, NY, wife of the late Alexander J. Stasieluk, died on Tuesday afternoon, April 25, 2000, at the Danbury Hospital.

Mrs. Stasieluk was born in New York, New York, March 26, 1921, a daughter of the late Alexander J. and Viola (Kondracks) Bojko.

She attended New York schools and has been an area resident coming from New York for the past 38 years.

Mrs. Stasieluk was a member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, Danbury.

A daughter, Karen J. Stasieluk of Putnam Lake, NY; a son, Paul J. Stasieluk of Middletown, CT; a sister, Helen LoZito of Yonkers, NY; as well as many nieces and nephews, survive her.

Funeral services will take place on Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. at St. Nicholas Church, 13 Pembroke Road, Danbury, with the celebration of the Divine Liturgy during Bright Week with the Rev. Michael G. Popson, officiating.

Entombment will take place in St. Peter Cemetery Mausoleum on Friday at 9:30 a.m.

Friends will be received at St. Nicholas Church on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m.

The Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Avenue, Danbury, is in charge of the arrangements.

Michael Gigliotti

Michael Gigliotti, 93, of 152 Westville Avenue Ext., Danbury, beloved husband of Hermina (Mertens) Gigliotti died Tuesday evening, April 25, 2000.

Mr. Gigliotti was horn in Danbury, July 27, 1906, a son of the late Joseph and Philomena (Bruno) Gigliotti. He attended Danbury schools and graduated from the Danbury Trade School.

He was a retired machinist for the former Doran Bros. of Danbury where he had been employed for fifty-five years.

Mr. Gigliotti was a devoted and loving husband, father, brother and uncle. He was a gentle man who was always congenial and smiling. His love for his family and friends as well as his home and yard were most important for his being.

An avid swimmer, Mr. Gigliotti was a member of the YMCA Senior Citizen's Swimming program of which he belonged to for the past twenty-two years.

In addition to his spouse of sixty-seven years, he is survived by a daughter, Beverly Zelazny and her husband, Richard, a brother, Anthony Gigliotti and his wife Mary, a sister, Rose Wilda and her husband Stanley all of Danbury as well as nieces and nephews.

Two brothers, Samuel Gigliotti and Frank Gigliotti predeceased him.

Private funeral services will take place at the convenience of the family.

There will be no calling hours.

Contributions in Mr. Gigliotti's memory may be made to the YMCA, 12 Boughton Street, Danbury or to the charity of one's choice.

The Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home 9-11 Granville Avenue Danbury is in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth M. Theiss

Elizabeth M. Theiss died April 25, 2000, at the Danbury Hospital at the age of 80. Miss Theiss lived at 20 Cawley Avenue in Bethel.

She was born in Danbury, Feb. 28, 1920, daughter of the late Martin and Emilie Nitsch Theiss. She graduated from Immanuel Lutheran School and the Bethel High School, Class of 1938. She attended secretarial school and was a secretary for the War Department and lived in the Washington, DC, area.

Upon her father's death, she returned to this area and worked as a secretary at the Mallory Hat Company and later at the Hannan Insurance Company before her retirement.

She was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her cousin and best friend, Geza Schwartz of Bethel; also, her cousins John and Suzanne Gally, William and Hilde (Gally) Kahl, Leo and Magda Kiefer and their children and grandchildren.

Miss Theiss and her mother were directly responsible for bringing most of her cousins to this country after World War II, for which they will be forever grateful.

She had many lifelong friends in this area and will be sadly missed by all.

Funeral services will be held at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, West Street, Danbury, on Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Daniel Wehmeir, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury, on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Margaret Moker

Margaret Moker, a Milford resident, died April 25th at Milford Hospital. She was 75. She died of natural causes, according to her family.

Born in Greenwich, Conn., August 20, 1924, she was the daughter of the late James and Margaret O'Shea O'Hara. Mrs. Moker was a communicant of St. Mary's Parish in Milford and St. Benedict's Parish in Stamford, CT. She was a former member of the Cardinal Club in Stamford. She was a retired 15-year assembler for Bunker-Ramo Corp. as of 1978.

She is survived by one son, James M. Moker of Bridgewater, CT; one daughter, Paula Honcz of Milford, CT; two brothers, James O'Hara of Palm Coast, FL, and Edward O'Hara, also of Florida; and one sister, Nancy O'Connor of Texas. Four grandchildren also survive.

Mrs. Moker was predeceased by her husband, Paul Moker, Aug. 16, 1978; and four brothers, John, Joseph, Donald and Thomas O'Hara.

The family will receive friends at the Gerald R. Bosak Funeral Home, 9 Pulaski St., Stamford, CT, on Friday, April 28th, from 4 to 8 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 29, at 10 a.m. in St. Benedict Church, 1 St. Benedict Circle, Stamford, CT, with Fr. Vincent J. Veich, pastor, officiating.

Interment will follow at St. John's R.C. Cemetery, Hoyt Street, Darien, CT.

Rose Klesitz

Rose Klesitz, age 72, wife of the late Victor Klesitz died April 25, 2000, in Holmes Regional Medical Center, Melbourne, FL. A former resident of Newtown, Mrs. Klesitz had resided in Indian Harbor Beach, FL, since 1988.

She was born in Bridgeport, April 22, 1928. She was last employed at the Curtis Packaging Co. in Sandy Hook. She was a member of the Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Indian Harbor Beach.

She is survived by three sons, Edward and his wife Sandra Lucas of Newtown and John and Paul Lucas of Shelton; two brothers, Dominic Smeraglino of Shelton and Anthony Smeraglino of Indian Harbor Beach, FL; five sisters, Carmela Amabile of Indian Harbor Beach, FL, Sophie and Jennie Falzarano, both of Bridgeport, CT, Esther Heron of Monroe, CT, and Nancy Lauro of Trumbull, CT; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered for Mrs. Klesitz on Thursday at Holy Name of Jesus Church. A prayer service will be held at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St., Newtown, CT, on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 9 a.m.

Burial in Resurrection Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to the American Diabetics Association, 3000 Research Parkway, Meriden, CT.
