Rose Teixeira

Rose Teixeira, 81, of Main St., Salem, N.Y., died Saturday, February 5, 2000 at the McClellan Health Care Center in Cambridge, N.Y. She was the wife of the late Jose Teixeira.

Born in New Bedford, Mass. December 18, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Policarpio and Maria Dos Santos. She resided in Bedford, Mass. prior to moving to Danbury in 1955.

Mrs. Teixeira retired from Amphenol Corp. at the age of 62 after numerous years of service. She was a past member St. Peter Church and the Sons of Portugal Club.

Survivors include three daughters, Ilda Costa of Portugal, Linda O'Neill of Salem, N.Y. and Eva Johnson of Johnsonburg, N.J.; four granddaughters, Rosalina, Debbie, Brenda and Terri; and several nieces. She was predeceased by her sister, Eva Fernandes.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter Church Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m.

Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery.

Friends will be received at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury on Monday evening from 5 to 8 p.m.

Those who wish may make contributions in Mrs. Teixeira's memory to the American Cancer Society, 372 Danbury Rd., Wilton, CT 06897.

Carl C. Anderson

Carl C. Anderson, age 79, husband of the late Anne (Mooney) Anderson of Nunnawauk Meadows, Newtown and formerly of Great Quarter Road, Sandy Hook died Saturday, February 5, 2000 in the Danbury Hospital.

Mr. Anderson was born in Milford July 19, 1920, a son of the late Carl and Caroline (Bahner) Anderson. He was a resident of Newtown the past 40 years. He was employed as a Carpenter by Union Local #210 of the Carpenter's Union until his retirement. Mr. Anderson was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Post #308 Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters. Mr. Anderson was a member of the Newtown Senior Center.

Mr. Anderson is survived by one son, Kevin Anderson and his wife, Kathleen of New Milford; five grandchildren, including Scott Lee of Newtown and Kevin Anderson Jr., Kristen Anderson, Carl R. Anderson and Derek Anderson; one great-granddaughter and a sister, Dorothy Anderson of Shelton. He was predeceased by a son, Richard Anderson and a daughter, Carol Lee.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, February 9, 2000 at 9:00 a.m. in St. Jude's Church, Monroe. Interment in Mt. St. Peter's Cemetery, Derby. Friends may call at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St., Newtown Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. Contributions may be made to Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Association, PO Box 344, Newtown, CT 06470.

Roger E. Newkirk

Roger E. Newkirk, age 89, of 4 Farview Terrace, Danbury, died Saturday at home. He was the husband of Rowena Simpson Newkirk.

Mr. Newkirk was born in Danbury October 14, 1910, a son of the late Simon K. and Ida Boughton Newkirk. A resident of Danbury all his life, he attended the former Trade School and Danbury High School. He was employed as a hatter for over 20 years and at the New Milford Tractor Company. Later in Danbury, he operated Roger's Laundromat and then was employed by the Barden Corp. in Danbury retiring in 1975.

He was active for 38 years in Boy Scouting in Danbury and then later in New Milford. He was a member and Past Noble Grand of Progressive Lodge No. 18, Independent Order of the Odd Fellows of Danbury. He was past President of the Mill Plain Volunteer Fire Department No. 12 and was also a member of the St. James Episcopal Church in Danbury and active in the St. Andrews Club. Mr. Newkirk and his wife were formerly active in various Square Dance groups and had graduated from the "Circle B Square Dances Club" in Bethel.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Joan N. Gourley and three grandsons of Bethel and a son, Roger H. Newkirk of Danbury; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the First Congregational Church, 164 Deer Hill Ave., Danbury, CT 06810.

The funeral will be held at the Hull Funeral Home, 60 Division St., Danbury, Wednesday morning at 11:00. Burial will be in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home during the hour preceding the service.

Dante C. Schettino

Dante C. Schettino, age 75, of Danbury, beloved husband of Elisa Fasani Schettino, died at home Saturday, February 5, 2000.

Mr. Schettino served his country during World War II in the Pacific Theater as a Staff Sergeant in the Fifth Air Force. He completed 63 combat missions, was shot down 6 times and received the Air Medal and many other commendations. During the war, he performed the duties of Night Waist Gunner and Photographer while attached to the 380th Bombardment Group, 229th Squadron flying B24 bombers.

Six daughters, Anita, Nora, Linda Schettino, Paula Grise and her husband, Michael, Elisa Palanzo and her husband, Daniel, Rena Bennett and her husband, Lawrence survive Mr. Schettino. Other survivors are his brothers, Adam and Virgil; six grandsons, Ryan Richmond and his wife, Chelsey, Michael Grise, Arthur and Matthew Willman, Daniel and Phillip Palanzo and several nieces and nephews. His parents, Grace and Joseph Schettino predeceased Mr. Schettino.

Memorial donations may be made to the Danbury Visiting Nurse Association, 4 Liberty Street or the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, Danbury. Friends may call the Green Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening.

Mary Jane O'Hara

Mary Jane (Ehler) O'Hara, of Glen Rock, N.J., formerly of New York, died February 5, 2000 at her home.

Mrs. O'Hara was an Administrative Assistant for 35 years for the Athletic Director at Columbia University, retiring in 1980. She was a member of Valley Hospital Auxiliary, member and past Secretary of the Glen Rock Seniors, member and past President of Women's Auxiliary of the Military Order of the Purple Heart and was a parishioner of St. Catherine's Church in Glen Rock, N.J.

Mrs. O'Hara was the beloved wife of James F. O'Hara; loving mother and mother-in-law of Ruth and the late Dick Corbett of Ridgefield, Kathy Kimtis of Scarsdale, N.Y. and Betty and Jim McGuire of Ridgewood, N.J.; adored grandmother of Jeanne Mullin, James Jr., Bill and Aimee McGuire, Rob and Karin Kimtis; loving great-grandmother of Sean and Danny Mullin; and dear sister of Alice Fox of East Brunswick, N.J.

The family will receive their relatives and friends Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Feeney Funeral Home, 232 Franklin Ave., Ridgewood, N.J. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Catherine's Church, Glen Rock, N.J. Interment to follow at George Washington Cemetery, Paramus, N.J.

In lieu of flowers, at the family's request, donations may be made to the Valley Hospital Auxiliary, 223 North Van Dien Ave., Ridgewood, NJ 07450 in Memory of Mary Jane O'Hara.

Adrienne H. Belanger

Adrienne Harrison Belanger, age 66, wife of Donald A. Belanger, of 20 Honey Lane, Sandy Hook died Sunday, February 6, 2000 at her home.

Mrs. Belanger was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. August 29, 1933, a daughter of the late John and Adrienne (Starrett) Harrison. In her earlier years, she was a dancer with the Radio City Music Hall Rockettes for five years. She was a resident of Sandy Hook the past 33 years.

In addition to her husband, survivors include a son, Philip Belanger of Acton, Maine; three daughters, Adrienne I. Belanger of Sandy Hook, Gina Del Vento of Southbury and Janice Kaufman of Oxford; a brother, John Harrison and his family of Saratoga Springs, N.Y. and five grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 9, 2000 at 12:00 noon in the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St., Newtown. Cremation, Mountain Grove Crematory, Bridgeport. Contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Fay Mortara

Fay Mortara, 83, formerly of Bethel, died Saturday, February 5, 2000 at the Mediplex Health Care Center. She was the wife of the late Charles Mortara.

Born in Danbury January 31, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Pasquale and Marguerite (Falsatano) Manluccia. During World War II, Mrs. Mortara was employed by the Frank H. Lee Hat Co.

Mrs. Mortara is survived by two sons, Richard and Robert, both of Danbury; three daughters, Jacqueline Smith of Bethel, Charlene (Horn) Ketsoglou of Carmel, N.Y. and Patricia Casavant of Clarkson, Tenn.; two sisters, Josephine George and Evelyn Howley, both of Danbury; fifteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly. She was predeceased by her daughter, Anita Johnson; her brothers, Dominic and Frank Manluccia; and her sisters, Margaret Webb and Angela (Molly) Howley and Lena Torcaso.

Funeral services will be held at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury Wednesday morning at 11 a.m.

Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery.

Friends will be received at the Green Funeral Home Wednesday morning from 10 a.m. to the time of the service.

Charles D. Fry

Charles D. Fry died Feb. 6, 2000 unexpectedly at his home, 7 Cedar Hill Road, Brookfield at the age of 60. He was the husband of Rita M. Marino Fry.

Mr. Fry was born in Spokane, Wa. Oct. 10, 1939 son of the late Herman D. and Lelah A. Porter Fry. He came to this community in 1987 and was an Insurance Agent for the Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Co. and later for the Arkwright Mutual Ins. Co. He retired in 1990.

Besides his wife he is survived by three sons: Jesse, Seth and Ethan Fry all of Brookfield, a daughter Tracey Thompson of Morgan Hill, Calif. and his sister Lynn Pryor of Post Falls, Ind. and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Contriubutions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 372 Danbury Road, Suite 159, Wilton, CT or to the Brookfield Volunteer Fire Department, Pocono Road, Brookfield, CT 06804. The Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Road, Brookfield is in charge of arrangements.

Isabel George

Isabel George passed away on January 16, 2000. Mrs. George was born on July 18, 1916 in Bellmore, N.Y. She moved to Danbury in the early 1960's and worked for the FW Woolworth Co. for 35 years before moving to California.

Mrs. George, widow of William George, is survived by her daughter Kappy Cox of Florida, 5 grandsons Kep, Jeff and Glenn of California and William and Brent of Texas. She was predeceased by her son William and grandson Kenneth Koeppel. She is also survived by 2 brothers, Thomas Kappauf of Florida and Robert Kappauf of New York.

Salvatore Pannozza

Salvatore Pannozza, 83, of 22 Hospital Ave., Danbury and formerly of Bethel, died at Danbury Hospital Monday.

He was born May 25, 1916, son of the late Joseph and Louisa (DiMascolo) Pannozza. He attended the School for the Blind in Hartford and lived in Danbury and Bethel throughout his lifetime.

He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Patrick Mainolfi of Derby and a niece, Sister Lillian Pannozza of Madison.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Peter Church Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery. Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury on Wednesday morning from 8:15 to 9 a.m.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the National Federation for the Blind, 580 Burnside Ave., East Hartford, CT 06108.

Gerald Edmund Carrine

Gerald Edmund Carrine, 77, of Midfield Road, Danbury, died Sunday at his home.

Mar Carrine was the husband of Evelyn L. Hyatt and were married for 52 years.

He was born in Danbury, Jan. 26, 1923, a son of Marsh and Edith (Paddock) Carrine.

Mr. Carrine was a veteran of World War II and served with the United States Army in the Pacific Theatre.

He attended Danbury schools and was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Danbury. Mr. Carrine worked for the Harvey Hubbell Company, Newtown. He enjoyed bowling with the Men's Commercial League.

Besides his wife Evelyn, he is survived by his son, Jeffrey K. Carrine of Danbury, 2 daughters, Jacalyn Carrine of Danbury and Jennifer Lombardo of Berryville, N.Y., 2 sisters, Mary Carrine and Cecelia Marks both of Danbury, 3 grandchildren, Jason, Kelly and Krystal, 1 great-grandson and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Tomlinson Homestead, 336 Main St., Danbury. Funeral services will be at Tomlinson Homestead Tuesday at 8 p.m.

Helen S. Thompson

Helen S. Thompson, 85, of 305 Walpole St., Walpole, Mass., native of Fairfield, wife of the late Wilfred Thompson, died Feb. 5, 2000 at her home.

She was born Dec. 10, 1914, in Fairfield, daughter of the late Frank and Agnes (Swiatecki) Staffey.

Mrs. Thompson was a long time resident of Danbury and graduated from Fairfield public schools. She was a resident of Walpole for the past five years. Mrs. Thompson worked for many years at Barden Corp., retiring as a lead assembler in 1977.

She was the loving mother of Ann Elizabeth Clark of Foxboro, Mass., sister of Ann Hunt of Whiteville, N.C., Mary Devlin of Stratford and Margaret Staffey of Fairfield. She was the devoted grandmother of Russell Clark of Attleboro, Mass. and Phyllis Clark of Niskayuna, N.Y.

Funeral services will be held Feb. 12 at 10 a.m. at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Danbury with the Rev. Angelo Arrando officiating. Cremation will be at Wooster Cemetery, Feb. 12 at noon.

Donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, Mass., 10710. Arrangements by the Roberts & Sons Funeral Home, Foxboro, Mass.

Stella M. Kozienieski

Stella M. Kozienieski, 87, of 55 Ridge Road, New Milford, died Sunday, February 6, at her home, after a long illness.

She was born in New Milford, May 6, 1912, daughter of the late Anthony and Agatha Stankevicz Kozienieski.

Following graduation from New Milford High School, she joined the Southern New England Telephone Company, retiring as manager of operator services for the company in 1975, after a service of 45 years.

After retirement, she raised Herefords beef cattle on the 150-acre family farm in New Milford for a number of years. She traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe.

Miss Kozienieski was a communicant of St. Francis X. Church and a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.

She is survived by a sister, Anna J. Kozienieski of New Milford.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the St. Francis X. Church, New Milford. Burial will take place in the St. Francis Cemetery, in the spring.

Friends may call at the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge St., New Milford, on Wednesday from 3 to 5 p.m. and on Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
