Elizabeth J. Hayes

Elizabeth "Liz" J. Hayes of Bethel, CT, died Monday, June 5, 2000, at Bethel Health Care Center, surrounded by her beloved family. Her illness was brief.

She was the wife of William F. Hayes.

Mrs. Hayes was born in Queens, NY, daughter of Betty Callan) Smith of Glen Cove, LI, and the late Terence Smith.

Mrs. Hayes was employed up until her illness by Boehringer Ingelheim Corp. of Ridgefield, CT. She had been a resident of North Bellmore, LI, for 20 years before moving to Bethel in 1984. Mrs. Hayes had been very active in several organizations in Long Island: She was a kindergarten teacher, CCD teacher, Girl Scout leader, Vice President of the Rosary Society, and team leader in Marriage Encounter.

Besides her husband and mother, she is survived by her beloved children, Kerrin Going of Amelia Island, FL, Meegan Modla of Roxbury, NJ, Terence Hayes of Tewksbury, NJ, and Brian Hayes of Syosset, NY; her four sisters, Marcy Triolo of Savannah, GA, Regina Smith of Seattle, WA, Barbara Kallelis of Moorestown, NJ, and Terry West of Elk Grove, CA; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Church in Bethel, Friday morning at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, NJ.

Friends will be received at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Those who wish may make contributions in Mrs. Hayes' memory to Ann's Place Home I Can, 1 Padanaram Rd., Danbury CT 06811. (A cancer support and service organization).

Carole Ann Meehan

Carole Ann Meehan, 66, of Oak Street, New Fairfield, died Monday at Danbury Hospital.

Mrs. Meehan was the wife of the late Richard Thomas Meehan Sr. They were married for 44 years.

She was born in Agawam, Massachusetts, July 3, 1933, a daughter of the late James A. and Christine D. (Parent) Fournier.

Mrs. Meehan resided in Florida before moving to New Fairfield to live with her daughter, Gale Stevens.

She worked as a nurse by profession. While living in Connecticut, she attended Grace Christian Fellowship in Newtown.

She is survived by 2 sons, Rich Meehan and James Meehan, both of Lakeville, Conn.; 3 daughters, Debbie Tipton of Green Acres, Fla., Gale Stevens of New Fairfield and Cindi Crummey of Grandbury, Texas; 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Contributions in her memory may be made to Grace Christian Fellowship, Route 6, Newtown, Connecticut 06470.

A Memorial Service will be conducted Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Grace Christian Fellowship, Newtown.

Richard C. Hyde

Richard C. Hyde, 86, husband of the late Beatrice (Roccki) Hyde of New Fairfield, died at the Bethel Health Care Center on Thursday morning.

He was born in Cheboygan, Michigan, February 8, 1914, son of the late Robert W. and Elizabeth (Moore) Hyde. He moved to New York City as a child and had lived in Brooklyn and Staten Island prior to moving to New Fairfield in 1997. Mr. Hyde had worked for many years as a civilian employee for the U.S. Navy. After his retirement he worked for 15 years for the Exxon Corporation in New York City.

Mr. Hyde is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Joe Moore of New Fairfield; a sister, Alice M. Hyde of Pawling, N.Y.; two granddaughters, Tara Moore and Katie Moore and several nieces and nephews. He had enjoyed his final years living with his family in New Fairfield.

Graveside funeral services will be held at Oceanview Cemetery, Staten Island on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury on Friday evening from 5 to 8 p.m.

Contributions may be made to the Connecticut Lung Association, 45 Ash St., East Hartford, CT 06108.

John F. Jackman

John F. Jackman, 72, of Port Charlotte, Florida died June 5, 2000 in Pt. Charlotte. He was born April 9, 1923 in Bethel and moved to the Pt. Charlotte area in 1983 from Bethel. He was a repair supervisor at Southern New England Telephone Co. in Danbury and retired in 1982.

He was a Retired Fire Chief in Bethel and a member of Telephone Pioneers of America.

He was also a member of the First U.S. Marine Air Wing, serving in Pacific Theater in the Philippines and China.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; daughters, Barbara Slader of Charlotte, N.C., Mary Jackman of Sudbury, Mass., Patti Jackman of Bridgeport, Dr. Donna Jackman of Charleston, Ill. and Dr. Joany Jackman, Rockville, Md.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A Memorial Mass will be held Tuesday, June 13, 2000 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bethel. Inurnment after memorial service in the St. Mary's Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Bethel Volunteer Fire Department Ambulance Service, 36 South St., Bethel, CT 06801.

Joseph A. Saputo

Joseph A. Saputo, age 52, of Sandy Hook, died Wednesday, June 7, 2000 at his home.

He was born in Bridgeport, December 6, 1947, a son of the late August and Dora Saputo. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and served in Vietnam. A resident of Newtown since the 1970's, Mr. Saputo was employed at Pitney Bowes.

Mr. Saputo is survived by a son and a daughter, Joseph A. Saputo Jr. and Danielle Saputo of Newtown; and 2 brothers, John of Sandy Hook and Richard of Bridgeport.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 10 at 11:00 a.m. in the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St., Newtown. Interment will be in St. Rose Cemetery. Friends may call Saturday morning from 9 to 11 a.m.

Robert William Chapman Sr.

Robert William Chapman Sr., of Kettletown Road, Southbury, husband of Betty (Lewis) Chapman, died Thursday evening at Danbury Hospital. He was 67 years old.

Mr. Chapman was born August 14, 1932, son of the late Harris W. Sr. and Natalie (Berry) Chapman. He attended local schools, grew up in Bethel, CT, and was a member of the 1950 graduating class of Bethel High School. He worked as an Export Sales Manager for Barden Corporation in Danbury before retiring in 1997 after 42 years. He was also a member of The United Church of Christ in Southbury.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert W. and Nicole Chapman of Colchester, CT; a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Charles Reinehr of Lago Vista, TX; a twin sister and brother-in-law, Roberta and John Main of Bethel as well as two granddaughters, Jodie Chapman of Colchester and Rebecca Reinehr of TX; two grandsons, Corey Chapman of Colchester and Anthony Reinehr of TX; and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a brother, Harris W. Chapman Jr. and a sister, MaryLou Chapman.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 12th, at 11:00 a.m. at The United Church of Christ in Southbury. Burial to follow at Pine Hill Cemetery in Southbury. Friends may call at the Southbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere, 235 Main St. North, on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Contributions may be made in Mr. Chapman's name to The United Church of Christ Memorial Fund, 283 Main Street North, Southbury, CT 06488, or to the American Lung Association, 3018 Dixwell Ave., Hamden, CT 06518.

Commander Glen C. Langford, USN

Commander Glen C. Langford, USN, 38, formerly of Brookfield, passed away on May 24, 2000 in Corpus Christi, Texas. Commander Langford was born on February 22, 1962 in San Diego, Calif. He graduated from Brookfield High School in 1980 and from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering.

Commander Langford then served in the United States Navy aboard the USS STODDARD (DDG-22), stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He then served aboard the USS MIDWAY (CV-41) out of Yokosuka, Japan. Commander Langford then attended the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, where he earned a Master of Science degree in Underwater Acoustics and Antisubmarine Warfare.

After attending Surface Warfare Department Head School, Commander Langford served aboard the USS DEYO (DD-989), homeported in Charleston, South Carolina. He then served on the staff of Destroyer Squadron 24, based in Mayport, Florida.

Following this tour, Commander Langford attended the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, where he earned a Master of Science degree in National Security and Strategic Studies. He then attended the Armed Forces Staff College before reporting to the U.S. Strategic Command in Omaha, Nebraska. While serving in this duty, he earned a Masters in Business Administration from Bellevue University in Omaha. At the time of his death, Commander Langford was about to assume command of the U.S.S. SHRIKE (MHC-62).

Commander Langford was the beloved son of Captain John A. Langford, USNR (Ret.) of Danbury and Barbara DiGrazia of Brookfield. He is also survived by his stepmother Rita B. Langford of Danbury and his stepfather Dr. Paul DiGrazia of Brookfield. He leaves a sister, Lauren Langford of Danbury; two brothers, Mark Langford and Paul DiGrazia Jr. of Brookfield; a daughter Chloe and two stepsons, Clifford and Michael, of Bellevue, Nebraska. Commander Langford was married to the former Peggy Herman of Omaha, Nebraska.

A funeral service with full military honors was held at the Offutt Air Force Base chapel, Omaha, Nebraska, on June 7. A memorial service for Commander Langford will be held at St. Joseph's Church, 163 Whisconier Road, Brookfield, at 10:00 a.m. on Friday June 30th. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, friends make a donation to a charity of their choice in Commander Langford's name.

Josephine Hilda Coyle

Josephine Hilda Coyle, 100, formerly of New Haven, died Thursday at Ashlar of Newtown.

Mrs. Coyle was the wife of the late Joseph H. Coyle and was formerly married to the late George Bunnell.

She was born in Northport, Long Island, New York, November 24, 1899, a daughter of August and Hilda Carlson.

Mrs. Coyle worked for the Southern New England Telephone Company before World War I. In the years between 1952 and 1955 she was the proprietor of the Log Cabin Gift Shop in Southbury.

Mrs. Coyle was a former member of the Litchfield Congregational Church.

She is survived by her son, George Bunnell of Barre, Vermont; a brother, Henry A. Carlson of West Haven, CT; 2 grandchildren, Barbara A. Pouliot and Lynn F. Zadravecz and her husband Joseph, all of Shelton, CT; 3 great-grandchildren, Tracy L. Terlaga of Naugatuck, CT, Kimberly A. Kaimer of Derby, CT, and Jennifer Pouliot of Shelton, CT; 2 great-great grandchildren, Joshua D. Stevens and Alisha D. Terlaga, both from Naugatuck, CT; and several nieces and nephews and cousins.

A Graveside Service will be conducted Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Beaverdale Memorial Park, New Haven, CT. The Tomlinson Homestead, 336 Main Street, Danbury, is in charge of arrangements.

Jeanette V. Sala

Jeanette V. Sala, age 86, of Bethel, died on Wednesday morning at Heritage Heights Care Center, Danbury. She was the wife of the late Nicholas Sala.

Mrs. Sala was born in Norwalk, March 21, 1914, a daughter of the late Prospero and Valentina (Contrella) D'Avanzo. A resident of Bethel for 20 years, she had previously resided in Norwalk with her family.

Mrs. Sala is survived by three daughters: Mary Ann Sala of Bethel, Dorothy Cegelski of Branson, Missouri, and Patricia Musacchio of Bethel; four brothers; one sister; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 12th, at the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Avenue, Bethel, at 11:00 a.m.

Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Bethel.

There are no calling hours.

Sheryl Ann Treanor

Sheryl Ann Treanor, 43, of Chester, NY, an Automation Analyst for United Parcel Service in Paramus, NJ, died June 7, 2000.

The daughter of Everett F. and Marjorie D. Bishop Heer, she was born June 26, 1956, in Port Chester, NY.

Mrs. Treanor graduated with a B.S. in Accounting from Bryant College and earned her Masters in Financial Planning from Western Connecticut State University.

She is survived by her husband, John Treanor; her mother and father of North Carolina; her son Jared and daughter Marissa at home; and her brother, Gordon Heer of Cromwell, CT.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday June 11 at the Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick, NY. Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Warwick United Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Warwick Cemetery.

Elsa Beckers Schreiber

Elsa Beckers Schreiber, 97, of West Palm Beach, FL died on May 11, 2000. A former Ridgefield resident, she was the wife of the late Otto A. Schreiber.

Survivors include one son, Peter. and one daughter, Lee Donovan. Four grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive.

A Memorial Service will be conducted Wednesday, June 14, 2000 at 11 a.m. at St. Stephen's Church, Ridgefield with the Rev. John R. Gilchrist, Rector, officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Rose M. Hackett Carlo

Rose M. Hackett Carlo, age 94, of Kenosia Trail, Danbury, CT died at Danbury Hospital on Saturday. She is the widow of Robert V. Carlo, Sr.

Mrs. Carlo was born October 16, 1905 in Bronx, NY, a daughter of the late James and Laura Alford Hackett. She was formerly of Salem, NY moving to the Danbury area in 1979. Mrs. Carlo taught Parochial School in the South Bronx in the early 1940's. She then worked at Bloomingdales in Stamford for many years until her retirement.

Mrs. Carlo is survived by two sons; Robert V. Carlo, Jr. and his wife Barbara, Bethel, CT and Richard X. Carlo and his wife Judith, Danbury, CT; four grandchildren, three step grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Mary's Church, Bethel, CT Tuesday morning at a time to be announced. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery Bethel CT. Family will receive friends in the Bethel Funeral Home, Monday evening from 5 until 8 p.m.
