Pamela Nagpal
Pamela Nagpal, a Danbury resident for the past 18 years, died Tuesday at Danbury Hospital.

She was born in Abohar, India, on Dec. 10, 1947 and moved to the United States in 1973. Pam was an auditor at the Cendant Corporation for 10 years. Prior to that, she worked at Union Carbide.

Friends and peers appreciated her forthrightness and determined style. She commanded great respect.

An extremely caring and good mother, Pam is survived by two daughters, Julie and Deborah Nagpal, both of Danbury.

Calling hours are Thursday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Tomlinson Homestead, 336 Main Street, Danbury.

Services: Friday at 11 a.m. at Ferncliff Chapel, Hartsdale, N.Y. Family and friends will meet at the Funeral Home at 9 a.m. to follow in procession to the crematory.

Laura Suzanne Hard
Laura Suzanne Hard, age 56, wife of William L. Hard of 16 Russett Road, Sandy Hook died Feb. 2, 1999 in the Danbury Hospital, Danbury, Conn.

She was born in Tampa, Fla., June 14, 1942, a daughter of Robert and Laura Lou Gregg of Chattanooga, Tenn.

Mrs. Hard was a graduate of Virginia Intermont College. Following college she was employed in the public relations department of the Young and Rubican Advertising Agency, New York City. She then began a career with American Airlines, first as a stewardess for four years, then as a ticket counter agent at Bradley International Airport, and San Diego International Airport.

Formerly a resident of San Diego, Calif., she lived in Newtown the past 16 years and for 10 years was employed as administrative assistant for the Newtown Chamber of Commerce.

Mrs. Hard was a member of K.I.W.I. and the Daughters of the American Revolution. In Newtown, she was a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club and the Board of Trustees of the Cyrenius H. Booth Library.

In addition to her husband and her parents, she is survived by a brother Robert L. Gregg of Miami, Fla.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Trinity Episcopal Church, Newtown at a time and date to be announced. There are no calling hours. Cremation will take place at Mountain Grove Crematory, Bridgeport, Conn.

Mildred Fairclough
The death of Mildred L. Fairclough, 86, of 100 Stony Hill Road, Brookfield, occurred at the Danbury Hospital Wednesday, Jan. 27. She was the wife of the late Joseph L. Fairclough.

She was born in Portage Lake, Maine, December 16, 1912, daughter of Rex and Flossie Gagnon Plummer. She came to Connecticut at the age of 14 and lived in Georgetown where she attended Georgetown schools. She and her husband moved to Brookfield in 1930 where they were caretakers at the former Footes Farm. They later moved to Stony Hill Road.

She was a member of the Brookfield Congregational Church.

Surviving are a son, Everett Fairclough of Hoosick Falls, N.Y., a daughter, Allayne L. Bowers of Sarasota, Fla., nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, a great-great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service was held at the Brookfield Congregational Church Saturday Jan. 30, 1999. The Rev. Peter Wiley, Pastor, officiated. Cremation took place at the convenience of the family.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Brookfield Volunteer Fire Dept. Ambulance Fund, Pocono Road, Brookfield 06804.

The Brookfield Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Alice B. DuBois
Alice B. DuBois, 74, a resident of Danbury for the past ten years, died on Thursday (Jan. 28) at the Danbury Hospital. She formerly had lived in Yardley, Pa., and for 17 years in Wilton, Conn. She was the wife of Carlton H. DuBois.

Mrs. DuBois was born in Buffalo, N.Y., on Nov. 12, 1924, a daughter of the late Albert and Marian Munn Scherbarth.

In Wilton, Mrs. DuBois was very active in the Wilton Congregational Church where she held the position as secretary to the Church and was also a Deacon. Previously she had been active with the Girl Scouts and with the Cub Scouts as a Den Mother, both in Wilton.

A 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star, Mrs. DuBois was a member of the Betsy Ross Chapter while in the Buffalo area.

Surviving, in addition to her husband of 37 years, are her four children; Charles C. DuBois of State College, Pa., Frederic L. DuBois of Fairfield, Conn., Janet DuBois Olmsted of Southbury, Conn., and Marilyn H. Keating of Essex, Mass.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 1 p.m. in the Wilton Congregational Church, 70 Ridgefield Road, Wilton. The Rev. Dudne M. Breeze, Pastor, will officiate. Private interment took place in Hillside Cemetery, Wilton.

Contributions in memory of Mrs. DuBois may be made to the Alice B. DuBois Memorial Fund, Wilton Congregational Church. 70 Ridgefield Road, Wilton, CT 06897.

The Bouton Funeral Home, 31 West Church Street, Georgetown, was in charge of arrangements.

Harold Eberhardt
Harold F. Eberhardt, 66, husband of the late Rose (Iacuzio) Eberhardt, of 45 Old Sib Road, Ridgefield, died at the Danbury Hospital on Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999.

He was born in Stamford, February 13, 1932, son of the late William & Estelle (Freudenthal) Eberhardt. He grew up in Stamford and had worked as a mason. He moved to Ridgefield 35 years ago and has been a Ridgefield resident since. He was an avid gardener, hunter and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Mr. Eberhardt is survived by a son, Harold F. Eberhardt Jr.; three daughters, Lori Scott, Cynthia Eberhardt and Rose Schutte, all of Ridgefield; two sisters, Viola Coppola of Stamford and Beatrice Calzone of Norwalk; two brothers, Robert Eberhardt of Stamford and Edward Eberhardt of Florida; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Judith Davis, in 1990.

Funeral Services will be held at the Stevens United Methodist Church, Vista, N.Y., on Thursday at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Ridgefield. Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Robert V. Payne
Robert V. Payne, 59, husband of Catherine (Dyer) Payne, of 3 Saddle Ridge Road, New Fairfield, Conn., died at the Danbury Hospital on Thursday morning, Feb. 4, 1999 after a brief illness.

He was born in Rome, N.Y., December 1, 1939, son of the late Robert G. and Frances C. (Fahey) Payne. He was a graduate of Syracuse University and had been in retail management for many years. He moved to Danbury in 1979 and managed the Sears-Roebuck on Main Street in Danbury. He left that position in 1983 and was a co-owner of Interior Creations store in the Mill Plain section of Danbury.

Mr. Payne was a member of St. Peter Church in Danbury and had formerly been involved with youth athletics in New Fairfield.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Carolyn M.F. Payne of New Fairfield; two sons, Michael P. Payne of Duluth, Ga. and Stephen D. Payne of Columbia, Calif.; a sister, Patricia P. Waldo of Minnesota and 16 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Carol Payne.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter Church on Monday at 10:30 a.m. Cremation will take place at the convenience of the family.

Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Monday from 9:30 to 10 a.m.

Dorothy Frances Murphy
Dorothy Frances Murphy, 82, of Danbury died Wednesday at Danbury Hospital. She was the widow of John Francis Murphy.

Mrs. Murphy was born in New York City on Oct. 6, 1916, a daughter of John Francis and Bridget (O'Reilly) Murphy.

She graduated from Nanuet Catholic High School in Nanuet, N.Y. and moved from New York to New Fairfield in 1958. Mrs. Murphy was a member of St. Edward the Confessor Roman Catholic Church in New Fairfield.

She is survived by two sons, Brian and John Murphy, both of New Fairfield; three daughters, Janet D. Schork of Brookfield, Anna Marie Cannizzaro of Danbury and Carol Ann Behrens of New Fairfield; eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are Saturday from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the New Fairfield Funeral Home, Route 37 at Cottontail Road, New Fairfield.

A Graveside Service will be held Sunday, 10:15 a.m., at Mountainview Cemetery, New Fairfield.

John E. Schimanskey
John E. Schimanskey, 78, a longtime resident of Milltown Road, New Fairfield, died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999 at Danbury Hospital.

He was born in Hartford, Conn., on Nov. 2, 1920, a son of Walter and Edith Kingwell Schimanskey, and was a veteran of service with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He had been assigned to the Pacific theater of operations and was a pharmacist mate in Guam, and had been awarded the Bronze Star for valor and efficiency while subjected to the bombing of Paruta.

After the war, he returned to Connecticut and associated with the former Conner Engineering Company of Danbury, retiring with over 40 years of service to the company. He was a charter and lifetime member of the VFW, Post 9257, in Putnam Lake, N.Y., and had served in a variety of official positions, from Adjutant to Commander.

Formerly married to Gertrude Newman Schimanskey, he is also survived by his companion of over 17 years, Mabel Anderson of Danbury; his son, Christopher J. Schimanskey of Blackhawk, Colo.; two daughters, Joanne F. Dwyer of Danbury and Mary Lynn Kolby of Shrub Oak, N.Y.; two brothers, Walter Schimanskey of Danbury and Francis Schimanskey of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; two sisters, Lillian Anderson of Newtown and Theresa Hamed of Danbury; a grandson; four granddaughters and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Edward the Confessor Roman Catholic Church, New Fairfield, on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Friends will be received Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Tomlinson Homestead, 336 Main St., Danbury.

William E. Olsen
William E. Olsen, 82, of Redding, Conn., passed away on February 3, 1999 at Mediplex Nursing Home in Westport, Conn.

Long active in many aspects of community life, Mr. Olsen served on the Redding Planning Commission for 15 years, including a term as chairman, and he served one term as Redding's second selectman. He was a member of the First Church of Christ, Congregational, where at various times over the years he had been a deacon, member and chairman of the Church Council, member of the Board of Finance and a member and chairman of the Congregational Church Society. His volunteer work with young people included teaching Sunday School and participation in Little League and Boy Scouts. He had been a member and president of the Redding Boys Club.

Until his retirement in 1981, Mr. Olsen was chief mechanical engineer with Automatic Signal Division of Laboratory for Electronics in Norwalk and Hamden.

He received his bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from the University of Michigan, where he was elected to Tau Beta Pi, a national engineering honor society, and where he also played clarinet in the marching band.

Mr. Olsen is survived by his wife of 59 years, Virginia M. Olsen of Redding; by one daughter, Virginia O. Bush of Durham, Conn.; by two sons, Douglas W. Olsen of Mechanic Falls, Maine and Paul E. Olsen of Dover, Del.; by one sister, Iris McCleery of Berea, Ohio and by four grandchildren.

Burial will be private in Ridge Cemetery, Redding. A Memorial Service will be held at the First Church of Christ, Congregational on Sunday, Feb. 7, 1999 at 2 p.m. There are no calling hours.

Elinor R. Mirrielees
Elinor R. Mirrielees, 78, of 41 Partridge Drive, Ridgefield, died Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999 at Danbury Hospital after a long illness. She was the wife of Robert K. Mirrielees Jr.

Mrs. Mirrielees was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on April 10, 1920, a daughter of the late Chester F. and Louisa Ellen Cornell Richardson.

A former longtime resident of Elmont, N.Y., she was an active member of the St. John's M.E. Church. Mrs. Mirrielees moved to Ridgefield in September of 1995 from Somers, N.Y. She was a member of the Ridgebury Congregational Church in Ridgefield. She was a former hospital volunteer in Bangor, Maine.

Besides her husband, survivors include one daughter, Elizabeth M. Sganga of Ridgefield, and two sons, Col. Robert A. Mirrielees, D.D.S. of Rapid City, S.D. and Bruce F. Mirrielees of Fort Thomas, Ky. Seven grandchildren also survive.

A funeral service will be conducted Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Ridgebury Congregational Church, 602 Ridgebury Road, Ridgefield. Burial will be in Ridgebury Cemetery.

Friends will be received on Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Kane Funeral Home, 41 Catoonah St., Ridgefield.

Edward Victor Schulta
Edward Victor Schulta, age 79, of Cozier Hill Road, Sherman, died at New Milford Hospital on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999 after a long illness. He is the husband of Heidi Totzke Schulta.

Born Oct. 25, 1919 in Berlin, Germany, Mr. Schulta worked as a tool and die maker and came to the United States in his 40s. Mr. Schulta was employed as a research engineer by IBM, Yorktown Heights, N.Y. for many years before retiring in May of 1994. He had been a resident of Sherman for 40 years.

Besides his wife, Mr. Schulta is survived by a son, Michael Schulta of Sherman.

A funeral service will be held in the Sherman Congregational Church on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in North Cemetery, Sherman.

There are no calling hours.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Fairfield County Chapter, 607 Main Ave., Norwalk, CT 06850.

Robert D. Huntington Sr.
Robert D. Huntington Sr., 63, of New Fairfield, died Wednesday, February 3, 1999 at Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of Mildred Huntington.

Mr. Huntington was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., on June 21, 1935, a son of Samuel L. and Edith (Blend) Huntington. He worked for Wickes Lumber and was a past member of the Moose Lodge.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Robert D. Huntington Jr. and his wife Kathy of Danbury and Richard D. Huntington and his wife Bonnie of New Fairfield; a daughter, Joanne Denice Conde and her husband Harry of Orlando, Fla.; a sister, Joann Coates of Tonawanda, N.Y.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Calling hours are Saturday from 2 to 4 at the Tomlinson Homestead, 336 Main Street, Danbury.

Services will be Saturday, 4 p.m., at the funeral home with the Rev. Dave Reinhardt officiating.

Esther T. Wildman
Esther T. Wildman died at Mediplex on Feb. 5, 1999, at the age of 98. She was the wife of the late Kenneth Wildman and had lived at Stony Hill Road in Brookfield before entering Mediplex.

Mrs. Wildman was born in Danbury June 24, 1900, daughter of Eugene and Ella Borello Strobino. She was educated in Danbury schools and worked as an assembler at the Risdon Corp. for 18 years and retired in 1967.

Mrs. Wildman was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Brookfield.

She is survived by her daughter, Beatrice, and son-in-law, John Guidotti of Brookfield; four granddaughters; and one great-granddaughter. She was predeceased by her son Albert Wanetski Jr. and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Road, Brookfield, with Rev. George Crocker of St. Paul's Church on Sunday at 4 p.m. Burial will be held at Central Cemetery, Brookfield, at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the Brookfield Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m.

Contributions may be made to St. Paul's Church Building Fund.

Margaret J. Day
The death of Margaret Josephine Day, 99, formerly of 10 Chapel Place, Danbury, occurred at Mediplex of Danbury Friday morning. She was the wife of the late Julian Bundy Day Sr.

Born in Danbury, Feb. 18, 1899, she was the daughter of the late John and Anna Zavada Peeler.

Mrs. Day attended local schools and was a lifelong area resident. She devoted her life to her home and family. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Danbury.

Mrs. Day is survived by her son, Norman L. Day of Port Charlotte, Fla., and by five grandchildren, Kathleen Wildman, Jeffrey Day, Sandra Rogers, of Danbury, Judith Leo of Sherman and Sharon Stevens of South Carolina.; 12 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Church, Danbury, Monday at 10 a.m.

Friends may call the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury, Monday at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Wooster Cemetery.

Evelyn Thorne
Evelyn (Lowden) Thorne, 60, of 2 Duck St., Danbury, died Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999, at her residence. She was the wife of the late Robert G. Thorne Sr.

Born in Valhalla, N.Y., Dec. 20, 1938, she was a daughter of the late David and Evelyn (Robbins) Lowden.

Mrs. Thorne had worked as an assembler for Data Set Cable Company of Ridgefield.

Survivors include three sons, Robert G. Jr., John H. and Gene Thorne, all of Danbury; seven daughters, Brenda Fitzgerald, Debbie Arroyo, Sheila Thorne, Bonnie Jones, Eva Thorne, Gertrude Thorne and Cynthia Thorne, all of Danbury; three sisters, Laura Schutte, Dorothy Lowden, both of Danbury, and Jane Lowden of Florida; two brothers, Albert and Ralph Lowden of White Plains, N.Y.; 22 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 12:30 p.m. at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery.

Friends will be received at the Green Funeral Home Monday from 11:30 a.m. to the time of the service.

Contributions may be made to the Regional Hospice, 30 West St., Danbury, CT 06810.

Margaret Hilgenberg
Margaret Hilgenberg, 82, of 107 Grandview Drive, Ridgefield, died Friday at the Pope John Paul II Center for Health Care in Danbury, She was the wife of the late George Hilgenberg.

Mrs. Hilgenberg was born Nov. 19, 1916, in the Bronx, a daughter of Joseph and Margaret Briody Veth. She lived in the Bronx for many years and was an active member of St. Raymond's Parish. She volunteered for many years with the Medical Mission in the Bronx. An employee for the Archdiocese of New York, she retired in 1976 after 10 years.

Mrs. Hilgenberg later moved to upstate New York to the town of Milan where she was active with the senior citizens. She often performed dance routines at various organizations and, in her younger years, performed on stage. She enjoyed her family and equally her grandchildren.

Mrs. Hilgenberg was predeceased by her husband, George, in 1990 and by her daughter, Carol Moran Shubnel, in 1992.

Survivors include two sons: George of Palisades, N.J., and Gerard of Jacksonville, Fla.; three daughters, Laurie Saracini of Ridgefield, Margaret Hilgenberg of Larchmont, N.Y., and Maureen Carey of Brewster, N.Y.; and one sister, Joan Trezza of Old Bridge, N.J. Five grandchildren also survive.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Ridgefield. Burial will follow in St. Raymond's Cemetery, the Bronx, N.Y.

Friends will be received on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Kane Funeral Home, 41 Catoonah St., Ridgefield, Conn.
