Margaret Carlson

Margaret "Rita" Carlson, age 93, of Simeon Road in Bethel died on Wednesday evening, July 7, 1999 at Glen Hill Convalescent Home, Danbury. She was the widow of Lauritz "John" Carlson.

She was born on June 10, 1906 in Ireland, a daughter of the late Denis and Mary Crowley. She had been a resident of Bethel for the past five years, formerly living in Larchmont, N.Y. and San Diego, Calif.

While living in California, Mrs. Carlson was a foster grandparent to disabled and abused children for over 20 years. She was active in the Bethel Senior Center, making quilts for babies with AIDS. She enjoyed all types of needlework.

Mrs. Carlson is survived by one daughter, Hilda Downing of Bethel; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Margaret Mary Fallon.

Memorials may be made to the Father Flanagan Boys Home, Boys Town, NE 68010.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, 10 a.m., in St. Mary's Church, Bethel. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Bethel.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Ave., Bethel.

Christine E. Rosasco

Christine E. Zinser Rosasco, age 98, of Hillside Avenue in Danbury died on Thursday, July 8, 1999 in the Lutheran Home for the Aged, Southbury, Conn. She was the widow of Joseph Rosasco.

She was born on April 22, 1901 in Danbury, Conn., daughter of the late Henry and Sophia Ryman Zinser. Mrs. Rosasco was a lifelong resident of Danbury. She dedicated 40 years of her life caring for the residents of Danbury through the Visiting Nurse Association. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Danbury.

Mrs. Rosasco is survived by several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews. She was predeceased by three sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, 2 p.m., in the Hull Home, 60 Division St., Danbury, Conn. Burial will be in Wooster Cemetery in Danbury.

Family will receive friends one hour before the service at the Hull Home.

Lawrence K.La Fond

Lawrence "Larry" Kenneth La Fond (Herrera), 51, of Tucson, Ariz. passed away on July 5, 1999.

He is survived by his wife, Yolanda D. Herrera (La Fond); his parents, Ken and Helen La Fond; a daughter, Jeanine M. La Fond; two sons, Brett J. La Fond and Richard E. Munoz; a sister, Donna (David) York; a nephew, Shane York; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Manny and Josie Herrera. He was preceded in death by his nephew, David "Bub" York.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday from 2 to 3 p.m. at Carrillo's Tucson Mortuary (South Chapel), 240 South Stone Ave., Tucson, Ariz. with a rosary recited at 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to SNA Lawrence Kenneth La Fond Memorial Scholarship Award, 641 West Santa Maria, Tucson, AZ 85706.

Catherine M. Gaffney

Mrs. Catherine M. "Kitty" Gaffney, 86, of Cedar Street in Danbury died at her home on Thursday morning, July 8, 1999 after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Thomas J. Gaffney.

Born in New York City on October 10, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Bridget Reilly Braiden. She received her education in New York and was a graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas High School. As a young woman she was employed as a secretary for insurance companies in New York City.

Mrs. Gaffney had been a resident of Danbury for the past 23 years. She was a member of St. Gregory the Great Church and its senior citizens group.

She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, William and Margaret Braiden of Fort Worth, Texas; a niece and her husband, Diana and Frank H. Radspinner of Fort Worth, Texas; a nephew and his wife, Dennis W. and Barbara Braiden of Fredericksburg, Va.; many cousins and special friends, Maylise West, Ann Marie Fitzsimmons, Evelyn DeFelice and Linda Rozany.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, 10 a.m., at St. Gregory the Great Church, 85 Great Plain Road, Danbury.

Interment will be on Monday, 1 p.m., in Long Island National Cemetery, Pinelawn, N.Y.

Friends may call on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury.

Manuela Garcia

Manuela (Sierra) Garcia, 91, of Fairmont, W.Va., formerly of Danbury, wife of the late Juan Garcia, died on July 12, 1999 at her home.

She was born in Spain on August 25, 1907, daughter of the late Alejandro and Hipolita (Chavez) Sierra.

She is survived by a son, Tony Garcia of Fairmont, W.Va.; a daughter and son-in-law, Teddi and Kaj Stefansen of Niceville, Fla.; six grandchildren, T.J. and Keith Garcia of Fairmont, W.Va., Edwin Stefansen of Gainsville, Fla., Joni Abrantes of Danbury, and JoAnn Buehler and Joel Gomes, both of Avon, Conn.; two great-granddaughters, Amanda and Janine Buehler, both of Avon, Conn.; one great-grandson, Blake Stefansen of Gainesville, Fla.; a son-in-law, Jose Gomes of Danbury; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sons, John and Joseph Garcia; one daughter, Adela Gomes; one granddaughter, Pamela Stefansen; four brothers and two sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, 10 a.m., at Sacred Heart Church in Danbury. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery in Danbury.

Friends will be received on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury.

Margaret C. Snopkoski

Margaret C. (Godfrey) Snopkoski, 84, of Glen Apartments in Danbury, wife of the late Felix J. Snopkoski, died on July 12, 1999 at Danbury Hospital.

Mrs. Snopkoski was born in Scranton, Pa. on May 10, 1915, daughter of the late William and Sarah (Healey) Godfrey. She had retired from Heli-Coil Corporation.

She is survived by a son, William Snopkoski of Discovery Bay, Calif.; a daughter, JoAnn Loucher of Kerrville, Texas; four grandchildren, Tom, Dave, Paul and Donna; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Snopkoski was predeceased by her grandson, Jimmy, in 1967.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, 11 a.m., at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury. Burial will follow in Wooster Cemetery.

Friends will be received on Thursday, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service, at the Green Funeral Home.

Friends are asked to omit flowers.

Richard B. Cain

The death of Richard B. Cain, 70, of Spoonwood Drive in Wilton, Conn. occurred on Monday evening, July 12, 1999 at the Norwalk Hospital. He was the husband of Ellen P. (Brady) Cain.

Born in Niles, Mich. on October 17, 1928, he was the son of the late Joseph and Melba (Davis) Cain. He received his elementary education in Niles and an associates degree in Aeronautics from Spartan Aeronautics of Oklahoma. During the Korean War he served as a flight engineer for the Navy at Oceana Airbase in Virginia.

Mr. Cain lived in Smithtown, N.Y. for 15 years, moving to Wilton 31 years ago. He was a pilot, based at Kennedy Airport, for Trans World Airlines for 30 years, retiring in 1989. He served as a pilot in both domestic and international flights.

He was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association and of the Glass Air Builders, building his own Home Built airplanes.

Besides his wife, Mr. Cain is survived by two daughters, Rosemary C. Wallace and her husband W. Michael Wallace of Ocean City, N.J. and Lenore C. Weinstock and her husband Joseph R. Weinstock of Brookfield, Conn.; four grandchildren, Richard M. Wallace, Alexander J. Wallace, David M. Weinstock and Victoria A. Weinstock; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, 3 p.m., at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury with the Rev. Clare M. Ingham officiating. Cremation will follow.

Friends may call on Thursday after 2 p.m. at the Cornell Memorial Home.

Contributions in his memory may be made to Animals in Distress, Wilton, CT 06897.

Braedon W. Dutcher

Braedon Wiles Dutcher, son of Bradley Darren and Pamela Sue (Borger) Dutcher of 20 Cook St. in Washington, Conn., died on Wednesday, July 7, 1999 at Danbury Hospital.

Besides his parents, Braedon is survived by a twin brother, Austin Brooks Dutcher of Washington, Conn.; his paternal grandparents, Bradley W. Dutcher of Bridgewater, Conn. and Cheryl Armstrong of New Milford, Conn.; his maternal grandparents, Robert and Marian Borger of Washington, Conn.; and two uncles, Chadwick Dutcher of New Milford, Conn. and Scott Borger of Brookfield, Conn.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Danbury Hospital Development Fund, 24 Hospital Ave., Danbury, CT 06810.

A graveside service will take place on Saturday, 11 a.m., in Weller Cemetery, Hemlock Road, Roxbury, Conn. with the Rev. David Peters officiating.

The Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge St., New Milford, Conn. is in charge of arrangements.

Richard C. Gore Sr.

Richard C. Gore Sr., 47, of 40 Natureview Trail in Bethel, husband of Elizabeth A. (Armstrong) Gore, died on Monday, July 12, 1999 at his home after a brief illness.

Mr. Gore was born in Danbury, Conn. on February 3, 1952, son of the late Robert A. and Helen L. (Hyatt) Gore. He was a graduate of Henry Abbott Regional Vocational Technical School. He had lived in Danbury and Bridgeport prior to moving to Bethel six years ago.

Mr. Gore worked in the custodial department of the Bethel school system for the past 12 years. He was a past member of the Teamsters Union.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Richard C. Gore Jr. of Bridgeport; two brothers, Robert A. Gore Jr. of Stockbridge, Vt. and Ronald H. Gore of New Milford; four sisters, Helen G. Rotella of Bethel, Beverly J. Toth of Trenton, Mich., Patricia E. Bickelhaupt of New Milford and Linda A. Mazza of Bethel; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Mr. Gore was predeceased by his brothers, John J. Gore, Roland J. Gore and Donald C. Gore.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, 9 a.m., at St. Peter Church in Danbury. Cremation will take place at the convenience of the family.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury.

Susan S. Sarbello

Susan S. Sarbello, 51, a resident of West Redding since 1980, died on Tuesday, July 13, 1999 at Danbury Hospital after an extended illness. She was the wife of Alfred J. Sarbello.

Mrs. Sarbello was born in Springfield, Mass. on May 29, 1948, a daughter of Mary Gideos Hamar of Jacksonville, Fla. and the late Peter Hamar. She had been employed at Union Carbide in Danbury and later owned and operated a printing business, known as Minuteman Press, in Norwalk until illness forced her retirement. Mrs. Sarbello was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Georgetown.

In addition to her husband of 30 years and her mother, she is survived by her two children, David S. Sarbello of New Milford and Stacey Reardon of Newtown; one brother, Peter Hamar of Austin, Texas; and two sisters, Carole Herring of Yulee, Fla. and Darcy Roy of Greensboro, N.C.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, 10 a.m., in Sacred Heart Church, Georgetown. The Rev. M. Joseph Joaquin, pastor, will officiate. The interment will be private.

Friends may call on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Bouton Funeral Home, 31 West Church St., Georgetown.

Wilhelmina B. Eriksen

Wilhelmina B. Eriksen, 88, of Treasure Island, Florida, formerly of Danbury, died Tuesday July 6th at Community Hospital, New Port Richey, FL. She was the wife of the late Commander Gustav A. Eriksen.

Mrs. Eriksen was born in Jagstheim, Germany February 23, 1911 a daughter of the late Georg and Wilhelmina Bueck. She migrated to the United States in 1929 and lived in Union City, N.J. prior to coming to Danbury in 1946. She and her husband resided in Danbury from 1946 until 1959 prior to moving to Florida. While in Danbury she was employed for a number of years at Ann's Gift Shop.

She is survived by her son Richard and daughter-in-law Jane of Durham, CT, one sister Emma Tschierschke of Port Richey, FL, five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services and burial will take place at Arlington National Cemetery on July 15th where she will be interred with her late husband Commander Eriksen.

Barbara L. Clark

Barbara L. Clark, 89, formerly a resident for 50 years of Candlewood Isle in New Fairfield, died on July 14, 1999 at the Glen Hill Convalescent Center. She was the wife of the late Stanley I. Clark. She had previously been the wife and widow of Weldon J. Durkin.

Mrs. Clark was born in Danbury, the daughter of the late John and Elisabeth Zimmermann. She attended school in Danbury, graduated from the Danbury Normal School and earned a bachelor's degree from Western Connecticut State Teachers College.

Mrs. Clark had been a teacher in Bethel. She was a member of the New Fairfield Congregational Church.

She is survived by her son, John W. Durkin of Brookfield; one brother, Arthur J. Zimmermann of New Fairfield; and three grandchildren, Ian W. Durkin, Kim Weis and Erin Zaccaro.

Calling hours are on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the New Fairfield Funeral Home, Route 37 at Cottontail Road, New Fairfield.

Funeral services will be private.
