Laray Bolinger
Laray Bolinger of Cooks, Pa., and formerly of Middletown, died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2007. She was 81.

She is survived by her children, Brenda Shivery, Faye Sherer, Dennis Bolinger, Thomas Bolinger, Lynn Zediker and Beth Peace; 14 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

A viewing was held on Sept. 28 at the Curtis A. Heath Funeral Home Inc., Broad Top City, Pa.

Burial was held in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, in Cooks, Pa., on Oct. 1. Pastor Theodore E. Kiffer, Ph.D., officiated.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Home Nursing Agency, 900 Bryan St., Suite 7, Huntingdon, PA 16652.

Linda Marlene Potter
Linda Marlene Potter of New Castle, formerly of Townsend and Smyrna, passed away on Friday, Sept. 14, 2007, at her home. She was 62.

Mrs. Potter was born in Wilmington.

She was a graduate of Middletown High School.

She was employed for many years as a nursing assistant at the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill, and the former Scott Nursing Home and Kent Convalescent Center, all of Smyrna. She later served as a home health aide with the Visiting Nurses Assoc.

Mrs. Potter earned a first-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do, and greatly enjoyed the beach, animals and reading.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Dwight Spence Jr.

She is survived by three sons, Rick Potter of Clayton, Mike Potter of Marydel and Wesley Potter of Milford; her parents, Spence and Bertha Spencer of Townsend; a brother, David Spencer of Townsend; and six grandchildren, Joshua Potter, Samantha Potter, Nicholas Potter and Abygaile Potter, all of Marydel, and Brian Potter and Lee Potter, both of Milford.

Services were held on Sept. 28 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, Smyrna.

Burial was in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.

Dominick A. Ciamaricone
Dominick A. Ciamaricone of Newark passed away quietly on Friday, Sept. 28, 2007, at his home. He was 83.

Mr. Ciamaricone was born in Wilmington, son of the late Camillo and Carmela Ciamaricone.

He was an Army Air Corp Veteran of World War II.

He worked at the DuPont Experimental Station for 40 years until his retirement in 1985. Afterward, he worked as the grounds-keeper for the University & Whist Club for 10 years. Being highly devoted to his family, he worked several odd jobs throughout his life to ensure their needs were met.

Mr. Ciamaricone was a member of the Delaware Turf Club and Holy Family Church, where he nurtured his deep religious beliefs.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marcelline L. (Baccino) Ciamaricone, in 2005; a son, Mark, in 2007; three brothers, Floyd, Albert and Daniel; and two sisters, Rose and Lena.

He will be missed by three sons and three daughters-in-law, David M. and Ursula of Elsmere, James M. and Dorene of Middletown, and Peter J. and Sherry of Newark; a daughter and a son-in-law, Marianne and Gerald Rodriguez of Newark; eight grandchildren, Gerry, Danielle, Nicholas, Austin, Brittney, Augie, Michael and Ariana; a great-granddaughter, Brooke; a daughter-in-law, Pamela Ciamaricone of Charlottesville, Va.; two brothers, John and Samuel; two sisters, Dorothy Yacucci and Anna Marie Cossetti; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Ciamaricone s family would like to extend their special thanks to the Bayada Nurses and especially his caregiver, Doris Bailey.

Mass of Christiana Burial was celebrated on Oct. 2 at Holy Family Church, Newark.

Entombment followed at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.

Mary A. Lakey
Mary A. Lakey, formerly of Delaware City, died on Sunday, Sept. 23, 2007, at ManorCare Health Services in Pike Creek. She was 93.

Mrs. Lakey was born on Aug. 2, 1914, in Delaware City, daughter of the late Annie and Tony Zerus.

For many years until her retirement she was employed as an operator with Illinois Tool Works in Virginia. She also worked for a time as a school dietician at Fort Belvoir, Va., where her husband was stationed in the U.S. Army.

An avid sports fan throughout her life, she was very proud to have coached the Pee Wee baseball team at Ft. Belvoir in the 1950s and to have led the team to a league championship.

Locally, Mrs. Lakey was a Life Member of the Delaware City Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, the Robert Taylor American Legion Post 13 Ladies Auxiliary and the Delaware City Recreation Club.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jasper Martin Lakey, in 1974.

She is survived by two sons and two daughters-in-law, Jasper H. and Louise Lakey of Delaware City and Edward A. and Jeanne Lakey of Holden Beach, N.C.; a daughter, Mary Lou Bond of Studio City, Calif.; a brother, Stanley Lakey of Delaware City; two sisters, Helen Lenhardt of Fenwick Island and Josephine Ivers of Miami, Fla.; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family extends their most sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff of ManorCare for their many kindnesses to Mrs. Lakey during her stay there.

Friends may call from 9 to 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 4, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 214 Clinton St., Delaware City.

Mass of Christian Burial will follow at noon at St. Paul s R.C. Church, 209 Washington St., Delaware City.

Burial will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 17, in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.

Brian Campbell
Brian J. Campbell, of Townsend, died Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005, at the age of 21.

Brian was born and raised in Delaware. He will be remembered as a passionate young man, who had a great admiration for cars and trucks. From his youth, he was fascinated with all types of mechanics and always wanted to know just how things worked.

In his leisure time, Brian enjoyed fishing, crabbing and music. Most of all, he looked forward to being in the company of his beloved family and friends, all of whom will miss him deeply. Brian had been employed with Ranshall Tires in Smyrna and was a member of Tree of Life Lutheran Church in Middletown.

He is survived by his parents, Jerry W. Campbell and Maxine E. Matthes Campbell, of Townsend; sister, Amanda J. Campbell, of Newark; grandparents, Max and Anna Matthes, of Wilmington; uncle and aunt, Max and Connie Matthes, of Middletown; and several cousins.

Services were held on Oct. 28 in the chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle. Interment followed the funeral service in the adjoining memorial park.

Rita Carter
Rita G. Carter, formerly of New Castle, passed away Monday, Oct. 24, 2005, at her daughter's home in Odessa. She was 86.

Mrs. Carter was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. She was the recipient of an award from the Delaware Art Museum for the yarn dollhouse people she crafted. She loved all sorts of crafts including painting, making porcelain dolls, crocheting and making happy clowns. Mrs. Carter enjoyed going to arts and craft shows, displaying her crafts locally at the Art on the Green in New Castle, the Arden Fair and other venues.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John E. Carter, Jr., who passed away in 1999; and granddaughter, Angelina Favaloro, who passed away in 1998; a sister, Clara Berry; and a brother, Victor Gibson.

Survivors include her daughters, Sherry L. Hardy and her husband Joseph, of New Castle, Jacquelyn R. Favaloro, of Woodland Beach, Carol A. Stonebreaker and her husband Thomas, of Newark, Pamela J. Ironside and her husband Donald, of Odessa; sisters, Peggy Pienta and her husband Jack, Betty Pettigrew and her husband David; a brother, Drew Gibson and his wife Mimi; brothers-in-law, Richard Carter and his wife Dorothy and Robert Carter and his wife Louise; 17 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Services were held Oct. 28 in the chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle. Burial was in the adjoining park.

Doris McPherson
Doris May (Ogden) McPherson, of the Ogden section of Boothwyn, Pa., died Oct. 25, 2005, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, where she lived for the past year. She was 85.

Doris was born and raised in Chester, Pa., and had lived in Oak Orchard for 25 years. She had been a bus driver for the Chichester School District for 11 years, retiring in 1977. She previously worked for Food Fair as a dairy manager. She was a member of the West End Boat Club and the Women's International Bowling Congress. In her youth, she enjoyed roller skating, bowling and boating.

Doris was predeceased by her parents, Lewis A. and Martha Johnston Ogden; her husband of 48 years, Jesse McPherson; a son, Jesse McPherson Jr.; and two brothers, Robert L. Ogden and Lewis A. Ogden Jr.

Survivors include two daughters, Edith Orlando, of Chester, Pa., and Debra A. Frantz and her husband Harold, of the Ogden section of Boothwyn, Pa.; four sisters, Ralmia Mosher, of Carneys Point, N.J., Louis Gladhill, of Pennsville, N.J., Marion Russo, of Exton, Pa., and Martha Rollison, of Townsend; four granddaughters, Beverly McDermont, of Linwood, Pa., Donna McPherson, of Claymont, and Christina M. and Lori L. Frantz, both who cared for her; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services were held Oct. 28 at the Pagano Funeral Home, Bethel Township, Pa. Interment was in Lawn Croft Cemetery in Linwood, Pa.

John Cook
John E. Cook, of Delaware City, died Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2005, at his home. He was 71.

A native Delawarean, John was born in Wilmington March 13, 1934, son of the late Norbert J. and Margaret (Davidson) Cook. He was a proud member of the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1960 and served aboard the USS Ruff, a mine-sweeping cruiser. John enjoyed a long career with Delmarva Power, retiring as a gas technician. Active in his community, he was a former president of the Delaware City Fire Company, the Delaware City Lions Club and a member of the Delaware City Recreation Club. John was a University of Delaware football ticket holder for 50 years, an avid baseball fan and lover of music and books.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Patsy Mulrooney.

He is survived by his brother, Michael J. Cook and his wife Linda, of Newark; two nephews and six nieces, Jeffrey M. Cook, Jennifer L. Cook, Margaret Mulrooney, Nora Mulrooney, Jeanne McClafferty, Eileen Leach, Debra Vickers and Michael Mulrooney; several great nieces and nephews; his brother-in-law, Martin J. Mulrooney; his loving companion, Rose Yarbro; and numerous cousins.

Services were held Oct. 31 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, Delaware City. A service followed at the chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.

E. Louise Scott
E. Louise Scott, of Middletown, passed away Thursday, Oct. 27, 2005, at an assisted living residence in Rising Sun, Md. She was 86.

Mrs. Scott was born and raised on a farm at Smyrna Landing. She had worked as an assistant manager for Silco s, formerly located in Middletown, and had retired from the Colonial School District.

She was predeceased by her husband, Earl F. Scott Sr. in 1987; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Scott is survived by three sons and their wives, Earl F. Buster Jr. and Carol Scott, of Clayton, Buck and Joyce Scott, of Middletown, and T.R. and April Scott, of Dover; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a special nephew, Wesley Cahall.

Funeral services were held Oct. 31 at the Daniels and Hutchison Funeral Home, Middletown.

Interment was in the Townsend Cemetery.

M. Emory Berkley
M. Emory Berkley, of Odessa, died Friday, Oct. 28, 2005, at home. He was 79.

Mr. Berkley was born in Wilmington. He had been a manager at the Opportunity Industrial Center in Wilmington. He was a former Scout Master of Troop 19, Wilmington and a WWII Navy veteran.

He was predeceased by his wife, Lucille M. Berkley, in 1999; and his son, Mark Berkley.

He is survived by his sons, Emory Berkley Jr., of Wilmington, and Moss Berkley, of Syracuse, N.Y.; daughters, Maryann Beamer, of Wilmington, and Mae Robertson, of California; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services was held Nov. 2 at Hastings Funeral Home, Selbyville. The Rev. Dr. Bruce Cooke officiated. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Park, Berlin, Md.

Minetta M. Lee
Minetta M. Lee, of Newark, died Sunday, October 27, 2002 at Christiana Hospital. She was 79.

Mrs. Lee is survived by her husband, Charles L. Lee of Newark; a son, Kenneth D. Lee of Newark; a daughter, Sharon K. Peffley of Wilmington; 4 brothers, Robert James Brierley of Middletown, John Henry Brierley of Kirkwood, William Brierley of Bear and Donald L. Brierley of Rehoboth; 4 sisters, Alberta Timko of Newark, Dorothy Wilson of Hockessin, Melba Hill of Kemblesville, Pa. and Margaret David of Bear; and 3 grandsons, Hunter Lee and Alexander Lee, both of Exton, Pa. and Nicholas Peffley of Wilmington.

Services were held Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002 at R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 W. Main St., Newark. Burial was in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

Nancy A. Crowe
Nancy A. Crowe passed away on October 26, 2002, while surrounded by her family.

A lifelong resident of the Wilmington area, she and her husband recently retired to Beverly Hills, Fla. She retired in 1999 from Verizon (formerly Diamond State Telephone Co.) after 31 years of service. She was a member of the Crossroads Presbyterian Church in Middletown.

Nancy was predeceased by her parents, Grace S. and Harry D. Porter of New Castle and her sister Betty Jane Eastburn of Wilmington.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Lealon W. Crowe, Jr.; her daughter and son-in-law, Kristen and Reginald Jefferson and their children, Sarah Grace Hubbs and Shawn Anthony; stepdaughter, Kathryn R. Jones and her children, Tiffany and Misty of Boca Raton, Fla.; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Kelly L. and Michael Imperial and their children, Taylor and Shawn of Bear; stepson and daughter-in-law, Kenneth L. and Shari Crowe and their daughter, Sara of Bear; and brother, Robert M. Buker of Georgetown.

Services were held on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at the Red Lion Evangelical Free Church, 1400 Red Lion Road, Bear.

In lieu of flowers, Nancy requested that contributions be made to the building fund of the Crossroads Presbyterian Church, 627 Vance Neck Rd., Middletown, DE 19709.

Lucille D. Rockhold
Lucille D. Rockhold passed away suddenly on Wednesday, October 23, 2002 at her home in Elkton, Md. She was 65.

Mrs. Rockhold was born in Pennsylvania on May 31, 1937, the daughter of the late Robert and Stella Phillips. Lucy worked for many years as a Registered Nurse in the SICU at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Elsmere. She was a member of the Newark Senior Center and attended classes at the Academy of Lifelong Learning for several years.

Lucy is survived by her daughters Lora A. Murson of Elkton, Md., with whom she lived; Lucy Powers and her husband Tom of Townsend, Patricia Powers and her husband Clete of St. Petersburg, Pa; and son Michael, formerly of Newark.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Katy and Lauren Murson of Elkton, Sam and Jon Rosado of Newark, Ben Powers of Townsend, Scott and David Rebarchak and Blaine Powers of St. Petersburg, Pa. and Sarah and Jennifer Rockhold of Newark; and a great granddaughter Caitlin Rosado of Newark. She is also survived by her sisters, Carol Gugliuzza of Sarasota, Fla. and Michelle Musgrave of Waterloo, Ill.; and brother, Robert Phillips of Memphis, Tenn.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Blaine Rockhold, who died in 1981, and daughter, Mary who died in 1958.

A mass was celebrated at Holy Family Catholic Church in Newark on Saturday, Oct. 26.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Lucy's memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Norman W. Mauthe, Jr.
Norman W. Mauthe, Jr., of Bear, died on Tuesday, October 22, 2002. He was 65.

Born in Kittanning, Pa., Mr. Mauthe was the son of the late Norman W. Mauthe, Sr. and Evangeline Lewis Mauthe.

He was a member of UAW Local #435 and retired from General Motors' Boxwood Road site in 1994 after 29 years of service.

He is survived by two sons, Ronald W. Mauthe of Newark and Steven H. Mauthe of Middletown; two brothers, Paul Mauthe of Glasgow and Gerald Mauthe of Ogletown; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Dianna L. Mauthe and a sister, Arlene Klingensmith.

Services were held Monday, Oct. 28. Interment was in Pencader Cemetery, Glasgow.

Kathryn Lee Pia
Kathryn Lee Pia (England) of Bear, passed away peacefully at her residence on Wednesday, October 23, 2002 surrounded by her family. She was 54.

Mrs. Pia was an administrative assistant for the Middle Department Inspection Agency and was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Bear. She enjoyed ceramics and gardening.

Beloved mother and grandmother, she was predeceased by her mother, Treva E. (King) England. She will be dearly missed by three daughters, Erica, Erin and Eve Pia, all of Bear; a grandson, Andrew; her father, Leroy W. England of Lancaster, Pa.; two brothers, James England of Townsend, Robert England of Coatesville, Pa.; and a sister, Janet Baccino of Chadds Ford, Pa.

Services were held Monday, Oct. 28. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way, New Castle, DE 19720.

Joseph M. Armstrong
Joseph M. Armstrong, of Middletown, passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2002 in Harbor Health & Rehabilitation Center in Lewes. He was 94.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Charlotte (nee Donaghay) and his second wife, Bernice (nee Tyler).

He is survived by one son, Joseph A. and his wife, Dianne; one daughter, Marie Kovacs; one stepson, Lawrence Waldridge; two stepdaughters, Joyce Young and Jayne Waldridge; two brothers, Harry M. and Eugene C.; one sister, Nellie L. Foltz; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; six step grandchildren; seven step great grandchildren; and one great-great step grandson.

Graveside services were held on Friday, Oct. 25 in Old Drawyers Cemetery, near Odessa.

Horace E. O'Neal
Horace E. "Unkie" O'Neal, of Middletown, passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2002 in the Christiana Hospital. He was 60.

Mr. O'Neal is survived by his brothers and sisters, including a brother with whom he lived with in Middletown, Bill O'Neal and his wife, Millie; nephews and nieces, including Michael O'Neal and Michelle Argoe and her husband, Harry.

Memorial services were held at the Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions can be made to the M.O.T. Senior Center, 300 S. Scott Street, Middletown, DE 19709.

Millicent Anne Fisher Jones
Millicent Anne Fisher Jones, of Earlville, Md., died on, October 23, 2002, at A.I. DuPont Children's Hospital, in Wilmington. She was three days old.

She is survived by her parents Steven Warren and Beth Fisher Jones of Earleville, Md.; two brothers, George Warren Fisher Jones and Collins Fitzgerald Fisher Jones, and her twin sister Pricilla Elizabeth Fisher Jones, all of Earlville, Md. She is also survived by her maternal grandmother, Judy Collins Fisher, of Middletown and her paternal grandmother, Ernel Jones, also of Middletown.

Memorial services were held Oct. 25 at Shrewbury Episcopal Church in Kennedyville, Md. Officiating were the Rev. Tom Hughes and Canin Lloyd Casson.
