Rachel P. Rambo
Rachel P. Rambo of St. Georges passed away Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2007, at home. She was 90.

Born in Burrsville, Md., one of nine children, she was the daughter of the late T. Wilton and Sarah (Cheezum) Porter.

Mrs. Rambo had been employed as a senior secretary for the University of Delaware in the hemical Engineering Department. She was a charter member of Fairwinds Baptist Church, as well as a charter member of the Harmony Grange (Fraternal Farmers Association). In her leisure time, she enjoyed gardening and spoiling her cat.

Her beloved husband of 50 years, David J. Rambo, passed away in 1990. She was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Erin Rambo, in 1976.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Crystal Kaczmarczyk and her husband, Mike; son, Ronald R. Rambo; sisters, Mabel Narvel, Vivian Ball and Twila Parker; and six grandchildren.

The funeral service and burial will be held privately.

Memorial contributions may be made to Fairwinds Baptist Church, 801 Seymour Road, Bear, DE 19701; or to Harmony Grange Hall, 4201 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808.

Billy J. Steele
Billy J. Steele of Middletown died on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007, surrounded by his family at his daughter s home, following a heroic battle with cancer. He was 60.

A graduate of Conrad High School in Wilmington, Mr. Steele proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was employed for 42 years with General Motors before his retirement. A gifted carpenter and handyman throughout his life, he was well known for his ability to fix anything. He delighted especially in making home improvements and was always looking for his next design challenge. In his leisure hours, Mr. Steele enjoyed playing golf, vacationing at the beach and, most of all, spending time with his beloved grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Pensel and her husband, Daniel, of Middletown; his son, Billy H. Steele of Middletown; his sister, Barbara John of Bear; his grandchildren, Elizabeth and Zach; and his nephew, Mason John.

Burial was private at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center, c/o Christiana Care Foundation, P.O. Box 1668, Wilmington, DE 19899.

Madelon M. Newton
Madelon M. Newton of Rising Sun, Md., passed away after a long illness on Sunday, Sept. 23, 2007, at Calvert Manor Healthcare Center in Rising Sun. She was 88.

Born on April 19, 1919, in Wilmington, she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Frances (Fortner) Dill.

Madelon was a homemaker all of her life. She enjoyed preparing and having dinners with her family at her summer home. She loved playing cards, knitting and watching baseball, especially the Philadelphia Phillies.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey L. Newton Sr. in 1983; two sisters, Betty Mitchell and Doris Calhoun; a brother, Edwin Dill; and two son-in-laws, Howard E. Moore Jr. and James Lackford.

She is survived by three daughters, JoAnne Lackford, Betty Moore, and Doris Purnell and her husband, Jerry; one son, Harvey L. Newton Jr. and his wife, JoAnne; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 27, at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown, where family and friends may call one hour prior to service.

Mrs. Newton will be laid to rest beside her husband in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Smyrna.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children s Research Hospital, Memorial and Honor Program, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Giulio Gil B. Bagnatori

Giulio B. Bagnatori of Brandywine Hundred died Wednesday, September 19, 2001 in the Wilmington Hospital. He was 79.

Mr. Bagnatori was manager in the research and development machine shop for Container Corporation, both in Oaks, Pa. And in Carol Stream, Ill., retiring in 1985. He then started the Mec-Pac Company in which he was still very active. During World War II, he served his country in the Air Force.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Vera G. Bagnatori; a son, Warren G. of Newark; four daughters, Sandra B. O Neill of West Chester, Pa., Bonny B. Krause of Wilmington, Vicky B. Miller of Middletown and Vera B. Coleman of Georgetown; a sister, Julia Romanelli of Johnston, R.I.; 13 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Sept. 24 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Wilmington.

Burial was in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Summit.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Red Cross, 100 W. 10th Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.

Theodore Ted Bush

Theodore Ted Bush of Smyrna, formerly of Lewisburg, N.C., died Friday, September 21, 2001 at his son s home where he had lived during his illness. He was 77.

Mr. Bush lived in Delaware and moved to N.C., where he worked for Wal-Mart for the past five years. He was a Navy veteran of WWII and enjoyed fishing and yard work, and he was an avid wrestling fan.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Ronald L. and Nanci Bush of Smyrna; a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Bill Preston of Wilmington; a sister, Margie Staubs of Martinsburge, W. Va.; a brother, Buddie Bush of Baltimore, Md.; his former wife, Eleanor Bush of Wilmington; and three grandsons, Ronald L. Bush, Jr., Billy Preston and Ross Preston.

Services and burial were private.

The family suggests contributions to First State Hospice, 5193 W. Woodmill Drive, Suite 28, Wilmington, DE 19808.

Mark Popeye Cooper

Mark Cooper of Middletown, formerly of Warwick, Md., died Monday, September 24, 2001 in Christiana Hospital, Newark. He was 40.

Mr. Cooper is the son of John Cooper of Pondtown, Md. And Joan Young Duckery of Middletown. He worked for various construction companies as a laborer.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by seven siblings, Jonathan Gale, Timothy, Frisby, Henry, Stewart and Tracie Duckery, all of Middletown, Helen Duckery of Smyrna and Dewood Duckery of Ohio; and his girlfriend, Virginia Meade of Middletown.

Service will be held Sept. 29 at 11 a.m. in Rehoboth Church of God, 209 E. Lake Street, Middletown, where friends may call after 10 a.m.

Burial will be in Union Bethel Cemetery, Cecilton, Md.

Anthony J. DeLuca

Anthony J. DeLuca of Middletown died peacefully Wednesday, September 19, 2001 at home surrounded by family. He was 54.

Mr. DeLuca was born in Italy and came to reside in Delaware in 1958. He was employed as a produce clerk with Acme Markets for 35 years, and was a veteran of both the Army and National Guard, having served in Vietnam during the Vietnam War and Saudi Arabia in the Gulf War. Mr. DeLuca was a former member of St. Anthony of Padua parish and was a member of St. Joseph s parish in Middletown.

He was preceded in death by his father, Amerigo DeLuca, in 1993.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah J. (Connelley) DeLuca; two sons, Anthony and his wife Lynn DeLuca and Eugene DeLuca, all of Wilmington; his mother, Bambina (Carlone) DeLuca of Wilmington; a sister Lydia and her husband Anthony Ignudo of Newark; a step-son, Joseph Connelly of Middletown; a step-daughter, Candace Raysor of Middletown; three grandchildren, Trevor, Nicholas and Brianna; and two nephews and a niece, Edward, Joseph and Patricia.

Services were held Sept. 25 at St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church, Wilmington.

Burial was in Delaware Veterans Cemetery.

Charlotte T. Hollobaugh

Charlotte T. Hollobaugh of Clayton, formerly of Newark, died Saturday, September 22, 2001. She was 74.

Mrs. Hollobaugh was raised in Newark and moved to Clayton in 1980. She was a homemaker and enjoyed reading and gardening.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis L. Hollobaugh.

She is survived by two sons, Fane C. Lauer and Michael Rocco, both of Newark; and three daughters, Diane L. Foley and Phyllis Lord, both of Newark and Michele Collas of Townsend.

Services were held Sept. 26 at R.T. Foard and Jones Funeral Home, Newark.

Burial was private.

Edna Irene Davis Jones

Edna Irene Davis Jones of Earleville, Md., formerly of Elkton, Md., died Sunday, September 23, 2001 at her residence. She was 79.

Born on Aug. 28, 1922, she was the daughter of the late William and Kate Snyder Davis.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Jess Jones, in 1970.

She is survived by six children and their spouses, Carolyn and Daniel Diebold of Earleville, Md., Nancy and Norman Husfelt of Elkton, Md., William and Carol Jones of Chesapeake City, Md., Gary and Pat Jones of North East, Md., Sharon and Robert Bernard of Flint, Mich. and Thomas and Pam Jones of Port Deposit, Md.; five siblings, Robert Davis of Elkton, James Davis of Childs, Md., William Davis of Swansia, S.C. and John and Morris David, both of Mountain City, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.

Services were held Sept. 25 at Hicks Home for Funerals, Elkton, Md.

Interment was in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Cherry Hill, Md.

Frances L. McVey

Frances L. McVey of Newark died Thursday, September 20, 2001 at the Green Valley Pavillion in Smyrna. She was 79.

Mrs. McVey was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilber L. McVey, in 1978; and a son, Barry J. McVey, in 1975.

She is survived by three sons, Wilber L. McVey, Jr. of Dover, Joseph R. McVey of Jonesboro, Ga. and Wallace J. Carnes; four daughters, Catherine Firas and Deborah Streets, both of Newark, Pamela Sapp of Delaware City and Barbara Spencer of Millsboro; three brothers; three sisters; 17 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

Services were held Sept. 25 at the R.T. Foard and Jones Funeral Home, Newark.

Burial was in St. Georges Cemetery, St. Georges.

Barbara L. Rawding

Barbara L. Rawding of Wilmington died peacefully Friday, September 21, 2001 at home. She was 65.

Mrs. Rawding was an operating room technician for 25 years at the Christiana Hospital before her retirement in 1998. She was a graduate of the class of 1953 of Conrad High School and a member of the Reunion Committee planning the 50-year reunion.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon K. Dibble, in 1986.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Llewelyn S. Rawding; four sons, Steven P. and Lawrence S., both of Wilmington, Scott D. of Middletown and Bruce A. of Newark; a sister, Pauline Cameron of New York; 12 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Services were held on Sept. 25 at Mealey Funeral Home, Wilmington.

Interment was private.

Earl William Thomas

Earl William Thomas of Elsmere died Thursday, September 20, 2001 at the Veterans Hospital in Brack-Ex. He was 83.

Earl was a machinist for Bancroft Mills for more than 30 years and retired from Eden Manufacturing in 1980. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of WWII stationed in Warring/Lancashire, England, where he met his wife, Edith. He was an avid gardener and was renowned for his skill in growing tomatoes.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Edith A. (Sutherland) Thomas; his children, Kathleen M. Thomas of Delaware City, Douglas E. Thomas of Newark and Brian J. Thomas and his wife, Helen, of Talleyville; and a granddaughter, Alainna of Delaware City.

Services were held Sept. 26 in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, Bear.

Interment was in the adjoining cemetery.

Willard Earl Usilton

Willard Usilton of Smyrna died on Thursday, September 20, 2001 at Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 67.

He was born in Church Hill, Md., the son of the late Meeks and Marnie Usilton. Mr. Usilton was employed as a truck driver for Southern States, Centerville, Md., for many years. He retired in 1986. He also farmed for many years.

He was a member of the Mamie Warren Senior Center, Kenton; and of the Harrington Moose Lodge. Mr. Usilton enjoyed being outdoors and working in his yard.

He was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Paul Usilton, in 1992.

He is survived by his wife, Grace Usilton; three sons, Willard Usilton, Jr. and his wife, Linda, of Columbia, S.C., Timothy L. Usilton of Dover and R. David Smith and his wife, Tammy, of Sudlersville, Md.; three daughters, Joyce Morris and her husband, Charlie, of Smyrna, Andrea Sammons and her husband, Matthew, of Dover and Barbara Russum and her husband, Ron, of Greensboro, Md.; a brother, Medford Usilton of Price , Md.; two sisters, Dorothy Blackwell of Eldorado, Ark. And Jean Palmer of Dover; six grandchildren, Kristen, Michael and Steven Usilton, Dawn Cordrey, Megan Smith and Michelle Sammons; and five great grandchildren.

Services were held Sept. 24 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, Smyrna.

Interment was private.

William R. Culver Sr.
William R. Culver Sr. of Elkton, died Friday, September 20, 2002 at Wake Medical Center, Raleigh, NC. He was 66.

He was born in Denton, Md. on March 8, 1936 to the late Raymond Lee Culver Sr. and Catherine Lord Culver.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 10 years, where he was a Sergeant in the 2nd Marine Division, Pioneer Battalion. He retired in 1998 with 34 years of service as a steam engineer from Chrysler Corporation, Newark.

He was a member of the Marine Corps League, UAW No. 1183, Elkton High School Touch Down Club, Golden Elks Band Boosters, Elkton Jr. Football League, Century Club, Swansboro, NC. Mr. Culver enjoyed cooking and storytelling. His greatest joys came from volunteering, spending time with his grandchildren and helping anyone at anytime anywhere.

Mr. Culver is survived by his wife of 38 years, Patricia A. Culver; his children, William Richard Culver, Jr., the late Marjorie Lynn Bunnell Fisher who died Dec. 23, 1999, Donald Glenn Culver, Daniel Cannon Culver, Abigail Bare, all of Elkton, Md., Annie Reeder of North East, Md., and Karen Nash of Henderson, Tenn.; grandchildren, Dain, Cory, Kyle and Lindsey Culver, Jared and Taylor Bunnell, and Cameron Fisher, Colin Culver, Dameon, Morgan and Cannon Culver, Brooke, Bronwyn and Blake Bare, Adam and Eric Reeder, Amber and T.J. Nash; siblings, Betty Eberhart, Lebanon, Pa.; Raymond Lee Culver, Covina, Cal.; Kenny and Douglas Culver, Mesa, Ariz.; Jack Culver, Elkton, Md.; David Culver, Smyrna; Glen Culver, Elkton, Md.; and Mary Katherine Parks, Elkton, Md.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26, at the First Baptist Church of North East, Md., 206 Mechanics Valley Road, North East, Md. Interment will be in Harford Memorial Gardens.

Eleanor K. Guthrie
Eleanor K. Guthrie of Penn Acres, New Castle, passed away Friday, September 20, 2002 at home. She was 79.

Mrs. Guthrie was born near Smyrna and graduated from Middletown High School and Goldey Beacom College. She Guthrie retired from Hercules in 1983 after 42 years of service. Her past organizations included the Hercules Country Club, the Board of Governors, the Hercules Women's Club, the Odessa Ladies Auxiliary, the Minquas Ladies Auxiliary, the Wilmington Manor Ladies Auxiliary, the Wilmington Manor Fire Company and St. Paul's United Methodist Church. She was a current member of the New Castle United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Blanche B. Keiser; her father, Harry G. Keiser, Sr.; brothers, C. Presley David and Harry G. Keiser; and her husband of 52 years, Alfred J. Guthrie.

She is survived by her daughters, Diana Guthrie of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, Debra G. Watson (James) of New Castle; and her stepdaughter, Patricia Richardson of Newark. She is also survived by her granddaughters, Victoria and Jamie Watson; 7 step grandchildren; and 11 step great grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Sept. 25 in the New Castle United Methodist Church, New Castle.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in memory of Mrs. Eleanor K. Guthrie to the New Castle United Methodist Church.
