John O. Godwin, 82
FELTON - John O. Godwin of Felton died of natural causes Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 82.
Mr. Godwin, a lifelong resident of Felton, was son of the late John Wesley and Louann Hickman Godwin.
He was employed with the DuPont Co. in Seaford for 42 years in production planning, retiring in 1982. While at DuPont, he was a member for 21 years of the employees' council and had been a past president.
He was an avid Yankees baseball fan, and as a youngster, was active in Felton town baseball teams and had been a Little League manager from 1957 to 1962. He enjoyed playing golf, listening to big band music and gardening. He also collected stamps and big band records.
Mr. Godwin was a member of the Harrington Senior Center and cherished the many friendships made.
He was preceded in death by his brothers and a sister, Sanford Godwin, Jerome Godwin, Reba Wagner and George Godwin.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Adolphine "Dot" Godwin; two sons, Jack Godwin of Long Neck and Mitchell Godwin of Newark; and nieces and nephews, Georgia Hicks, Linda Gill, Reginald Godwin, Penny Godwin, Susanne Wagner and Norman Wagner.
Services will be 2 p.m. today in Berry-Short Funeral Home, Main Street, Felton, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Barratt's Chapel Cemetery, near Frederica

Helen P. O'Neill, 87
DOVER - Helen P. O'Neill of Dover died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2002, in the Silver Lake Center, Dover She was 87.
Mrs. O'Neill was born in Chester County, Pa., daughter of the late Diller and Nellie Reisnyder.
She had been employed at the Firestone Manufacturing Co., in Pottstown, Pa., and had spent her later years as a caregiver to those who were less fortunate.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, Paul L. Osborne Sr. in 1938 and Charles O'Neill in 1980.
She is survived by two sons, Paul L. Osborne Jr. of Norristown, Pa., and Webster Osborne of West Chester, Pa.; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.
Services will be private.

Julie Dewey Gallegos, 36
HARTLY - Julie Dewey Gallegos of Hartly died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, in her home. She was 36.
Mrs. Gallegos was born in Dover, daughter of Jack and Judith Dewey of Dover.
She was working as an account specialist in the health care field and had recently started working at Giacomo's Restaurant in Dover.
A cheerful and fun-loving person, she was a loving daughter, sister and a dedicated mother. She will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by a son, John Gallegos, at home; a daughter, Jerrica Elizabeth Marie Gallegos, at home; a sister and brother-in-law, Denise and Steve Cockburn of Dover; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jeffrey and Jill Dewey of Camden and James and Angeline Dewey of Seaford, along with several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso, 1175 S. State St., Dover.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Holy Cross Church, South State Street, Dover.

John A. Gallegos, 39
DOVER - John A. Gallegos of Dover died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002. He was 39.
Mr. Gallegos was born March 22, 1963, in Carlisle, Pa., son of Norbert and Patricia Peck Gallegos of Dover.
He had lived in the Dover area for 21 years.
Mr. Gallegos was employed as an electrician for Primo Electric.
He loved scuba diving, hunting, camping, the beach, and surf fishing. He loved and enjoyed his children, and his nieces and nephews.
Mr. Gallegos was a member of St. Polycarp Catholic Church in Smyrna.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a son, John Gallegos Jr. of Hartly; a daughter, Jerrica Gallegos of Hartly; a brother, Joseph Gallegos of Hartly; and a sister, Sheila Wooters of Smyrna.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Polycarps Catholic Church, 135 Ransom Lane, Smyrna.

The Rev. Tyeise V. Wayman, 90
SMYRNA - The Rev. Tyeise V. Wayman of Smyrna died of natural causes Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, in Genesis Elder Care. She was 90.
The Rev. Wayman was born March 3, 1912, in New Chapel, Md., daughter of the late Percy Henry and Hattie Henry.
She was educated in Morton High School, Easton, Md.
The Rev. Wayman was a member of Byrd's AME Church, Clayton; St. Paul UAME Church in Smyrna, Trinity UAME Church, Dover.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Leon Wayman and a brother, Milton Dansbury.
She is survived by three daughters, Kay Hairston of Magnolia, Deborah Pierce of Smyrna, and Emma Davis of Milford; three sons, James L. Wayman Jr. of Smyrna, Lucius Selby of Wilmington, and George Harmon of Harrington; a daughter-in-law, Rose Wayman; two sons-in-law, James Hairston and Donald Pierce; five grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in Trinity UAME Church, Dover, where friends may call two hours earlier. Bishop Micheal Moulden will officiate.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.

Robert 'Bob' Wright Sr., 66
DOVER - Robert "Bob" Wright Sr. of Dover died Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, in Bayhealth/Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 66.
Mr. Wright was born Feb. 16, 1936, in Earlville, Md., son of the late Herbert and Ethel Wright.
He had worked for over 30 years as a mechanic for Wyoming Concrete retiring in 2001.
Mr. Wright loved working on cars and trucks. He also liked watching action movies and TV shows. His favorite show was "Walker Texas Ranger" as well as many western shows. He enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening and will be sadly missed forever.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Helen Marie Wright on May 2, 2001; a sister Catherine Holding; and two brothers, Webster Wright and Nathan Porter.
He is survived by five children and their spouses, Lucinda D. and Raymond Yoder, Christine R. and Mark Bennett, Angela and Charles Pruitt, all of Dover, Robert Jr. and Cheryl Wright of Harrington, and Marlene and Brent Oswell of Felton; five brothers Dallas Wright of Marydel, Leroy Wright and James Wright, both of Downs Chapel, Jim Wright of Middletown, and Wilbur Wright of Maryland; a sister, Alberta Schyuler of Downs Chapel, 11 grandchildren Megan and Eric Yoder, Steven and Gabrielle Bennett, Ashley Pruitt, Robert Wright III, Phillip, Justine, Tabitha and Savannah Wright, and Alexander Oswell.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
Burial will be private.

Catherine E. Washik, 56
GREENWOOD - Catherine E. Washik of Greenwood died Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, in her home. She was 56.
Mrs. Washik had worked as a purchasing agent for Toshiba International in Texas until her retirement.
She was a hard working, single, mother of three. She was a very intelligent, beautiful, caring and giving lady. She also loved animals.
Mrs. Washik was a former president of the Ladies Auxiliary for the VFW in Arizona. She also took part with other charitable organizations.
She is survived by a son, John Christensen of Greenwood; two daughters, Marie R. Christensen of Virginia and Catherine E. Bishop-Waddington of Pennsylvania, a sister, Elizabeth L. Bosler of Milford, N.H.; her special friends and caretaker, Edna Butler, Charlotte Butler and Charlotte's daughter, Kayla Marie all of Greenwood; nine grandchildren, and was a foster mother to nine children.
Memorial services will be 5 p.m. Wednesday in the home of her son.

Robert Walter Knowles, 62
SEAFORD - Robert Walter "Bob" Knowles of Seaford died of cancer Saturday, May 26, 2001, in his home. He was 62.
Mr. Knowles was the owner and operator of Robert Knowles Roofing in Seaford for more than 40 years.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Janice Reynolds Knowles; two daughters, Tammy Alexander of Wilmington and Cheryl Dryden of Delmar; four sons, Steve Knowles, Robbie Knowles and William Knowles, all of Seaford, and Joseph Dorey of Berlin, Md.; a brother, David Knowles of Seaford; a sister, Faith Ann Willin of Seaford; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Shirley and Hick Heckman; 17 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Cranston Funeral Home, 300 Shipley St., Seaford.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Seaford.

Gertrude A. Metz, 95
GEORGETOWN - Gertrude A. Metz of Georgetown died Wednesday, May 23, 2001, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. She was 95
Mrs. Metz was born Oct. 22, 1905, in Glenwilton, Va., daughter of the late Mayola Fleming and Robert Anderson.
She was a homemaker and church organist, serving with her husband, the Rev. Algernon Metz, in the Baptist Conference. After her husband died in 1995, she lived in New York before coming to Delaware in 1999 to live with her son, who cared for her.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Carl and Eva Metz of Georgetown and Raymond Metz of New York City; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Service will be noon Tuesday at Bennie Smith Funeral Home, 174 Rehoboth Blvd., Milford, where friends may call two hours prior to the service. The Rev. Charles A. Dennis Sr. will officiate.

Howard W. 'Bus' Phillips, 87
ODESSA - Howard W. "Bus" Phillips of Odessa died of natural causes Sunday, May 27, 2001, in Sunbridge Nursing Home, Elkton, Md. He was 87.
Mr. Phillips was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He worked for Ennis Brothers in Odessa for more than 30 years, then worked for Delaware Savings and Loan Association as the Middletown Branch manager, retiring from that position in 1978.
Mr. Phillips was a member of Lodge 5, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, in Middletown, a former mayor and councilman of Odessa and a former state representative. He was a volunteer and past treasurer of the Odessa Fire Co.
He was preceded in death by a son, Howard M. Phillips, in September 2000.
He is survived by his wife, Jean E. Phillips; two sons, Frederick S. Newnam of Wilmington and Douglas R. Phillips of Newark; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in Old Drawyers Cemetery, U.S. 13, north of Odessa.

Jeannette Blades Price, 76
SEAFORD - Jeannette Blades Price died of pneumonia Saturday, May 26, 2001, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. She was 76.
Mrs. Price was born in Seaford, daughter of Mildred Hill Smith of Seaford and the late William Albert Blades.
She was assistant librarian for the Seaford School District for 17 years, retiring in 1985.
Mrs. Price was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, and of the Methodist Women at the church.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, W. Reginald Price; a son, David Lee Price of Wilmington; and a daughter, JoAnn Price of Palm Bay, Fla.
Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. John's United Methodist Church, Pine and Poplar streets, Seaford, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. David B. Humphrey and the Rev. George Godfrey will officiate.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Seaford.

Clara Eleanor Unruh Reynolds, 96
TOWNSEND - Clara Eleanor Unruh Reynolds, 96, died of natural causes Saturday, May 26, 2001, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 96.
Mrs. Reynolds was a lifelong resident of Townsend.
She graduated from Middletown High School and the University of Delaware, where she received her degree in education.
Mrs. Reynolds retired from the Appoquinimink School District after 42 years as an educator.
After her retirement, she traveled extensively throughout the world and played hostess for numerous foreign visitors in her home.
Mrs. Reynolds was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Townsend, where she served on the board of trustees, sang in the choir and volunteered with the 3 M's organization. She was very active in Republican politics in Delaware, and was a past member of the Delaware State Republican Committee, vice chairman of the 28th District Republican Committee, vice chairman of the Delaware Federation of Republican Women's Building Fund Inc. and former secretary of the Lower New Castle County Republican Women's Club, and she had served as a delegate to the Republican National Convention. She also was a member of the Townsend Women's Club and the Odessa Women's Club, vice-chairman of the Restoration Board of Old Methodist Church in Odessa and a member of the Stockley Center Auxiliary in Georgetown.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Randolph Pratt Reynolds, in 1955.
She is survived by a son, Randolph Pratt "Barney" Reynolds Jr., and daughter-in-law, Ruth Johnson Reynolds, both of Townsend; a grandson, Randolph James Reynolds, and his wife, Christine, of Milford; and a great-granddaughter, Lindsey Ann Reynolds.
Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Immanuel United Methodist Church, Main Street, Townsend, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in the Townsend Cemetery.

DOVER - Bertha Strever of Dover, formerly of New York, died Sunday, May 27, 2001, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 90.
Mrs. Strever was born Oct. 28, 1910, in Staten Island, N.Y., daughter of the late William and Clara (Schwartz) DePew.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Strever was a former member of the 6th Avenue Baptist Church of Brooklyn, N.Y.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Monroe Strever.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, William T. and Ruth Hancock, both of Dover.
Service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.

John W. Brohawn Sr., 80
SEAFORD - John W. Brohawn Sr. of Seaford died Monday, May 26, 2003, in Deer's Head Hospital, Salisbury, Md. He was 80.
Mr. Brohawn was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He retired in 1984 after 42 years from the DuPont Co. in Seaford, where he was a senior technical assis-tant.
Mr. Brohawn was a member of the American Legion in Seaford. He was active in the Nanticoke Little League for 30 years and started girls' Little League softball in Sussex County.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy "Dot" Brohawn; a son and daughter-in-law, John W. and Sylvia Brohawn Jr. of Laurel; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda A. and Steven Collins of Seaford; two sis-ters, Gladys Lloyd of Easton, Md., and Marguerite Reller of Venice, Fla.; a grandson, Shane W. Collins; and seven step-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday in Cranston Funeral Home, 300 N. Shipley St., Seaford, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Bridgeville Cemetery.

William E. 'Gene' Collier, 73
CHESTERTOWN, Md. - William E. "Gene" Collier of Chestertown died Monday, May 26, 2003, in Kent and Queen Anne's Hospital, Chestertown. He was 73.
Mr. Collier was born June 18, 1929, in Maryland, son of the late William Clyde and Dora King Collier.
He was a graduate of Stevensville High School, class of 1946, and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. He was honorably discharged in December 1954 after serving nearly seven years.
He worked as a mechanic and truck driver before owning and operating his own business, G&E Quik Mart in Grasonville.
Mr. Collier was the first fire chief of the Grasonville Volunteer Fire Department. He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Chestertown, and attended Bay Pines Lutheran Church in Florida, where he and his wife spent winters for the past nine years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Margie Hoxter.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ethel Collier; a son and daughter-in-law, Paul William Collier and Dayra Collier of Tampa, Fla.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Nancy Mench and Doria and Joseph Doug-las, all of Chestertown; Mr. Douglas' extended family, Wendy and Michael Moore of Chestertown; a brother, Francis "Butch" Collier of Chester; nine grandchildren, Michael Mansfield, Trish Bacon, Ericka Collier, Megan Moore, Kaitlyn Moore, Kelsey Douglas, Taylor Douglas, Joel Douglas and Austin Collier; two step-grandsons, Dicino Cacino and Abraham Cacino; and a great-granddaughter, Victoria Bacon.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday in Trinity Lutheran Church in Chestertown, where relatives and friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be private.

The Rev. James L. Davis Sr., 62
GALENA, Md. - The Rev. James L. Davis Sr. of Galena died suddenly Saturday, May 24, 2003, in his home. He was 62.
The Rev. Davis was born Sept. 21, 1940, in Columbia, S.C., son of the late Jasper and Jannie Bell Grooms.
He was employed by Daimler Chrysler in Newark, Del., for 36 years, retiring as a line coordinator in 2001.
The Rev. Davis and his wife moved from Wilmington, Del., to Galena five years ago. He had been pastor of Olivet Pentecostal Church of Love for 10 years. The groundbreaking service for his new church began a year ago, with the excavation beginning just weeks ago. He enjoyed serving the Lord, his family and work-ing on cars.
The Rev. Davis is survived by his wife of 39 years, Anna M. Davis; a son and daughter-in-law, James L. Davis Jr. and Felicia Davis of Wilmington; three daughters and a son-in-law, Melody Davis of Jacksonville, Fla., Nicole Davis of Middletown, Del., and Moneca Davis-Graham and Corey Graham of Bear, Del.; a sis-ter and brother-in-law, Ilean and Wayman Blackston of Galena; eight grandchildren; and a host of neph-ews and nieces.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday in the Abundant Life Worship Center, 250 Booth St., Elkton, where friends may call two hours earlier. Bishop Huey L. Harris, the Rev. Davis' former pastor and mentor, will officiate.
Burial will be in Olivet Hill Cemetery, Galena.

Joan Donovan, 88
MARIETTA, Ga. - Joan Donovan of Marietta died, following an extended illness, Saturday, May 24, 2003, in her son's home in Dawsonville. She was 88.
Mrs. Donovan was born Gwendolyn Joan Orner June 3, 1914, in Garden City, Kan., the youngest of nine sisters.
As a young woman, she was a professional dancer, performing with the Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, with Josephine Baker and Maurice Chevalier at the Follies-Bergere Theater in Paris and with a cabaret show entertaining British troops in Alexandria, Egypt, during the early years of World War II. Later, she worked in motion-picture productions, and then, as an administrative assistant with Conoco and DuPont, living in Wilmington, Del., 1983-1985.
Following her retirement in 1984, Mrs. Donovan moved to Marietta, where she was active in volunteer work as a "Wednesday Wonder" for the Zoo Atlanta. She also traveled extensively, visiting Ireland, India, Africa and Australia.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, Frank Donovan, in 1975.
She is survived by two sons, Michael Donovan of Key Largo, Fla., and Kevin Donovan of Dawsonville; five grandchildren, Erin, Sean, Andrew, Tara and Karri; and a great-grandson, Tristan.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Zoo Atlanta, 900 Cherokee Ave. S.E., Atlanta, GA 30315, Attention: Beth Edwards.
