Leora Margaret Anderson (Nine), 75
HARRINGTON - Leora Margaret Anderson (Nine) of Harrington died of heart failure Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital, Milford. She was 75.
Mrs. Anderson retired as the assistant director of the Harrington Senior Center.
She was a foster grandparent who was very active in the Harrington community.
Mrs. Anderson was a devoted member of the St. Paul AME Church in Harrington for well over 30 years, where she served in the following capacities: missionary member, steward, trustee, member of the senior and the mass choirs, the Ministry of Help Organization and the financial committee. She was also one of the church's secretaries.
She is survived by a son, Carl Anderson of Wilmington; a daughter, Barbara Jean Benson of Wilmington; two nephews, John W. and Terrence A. Thomas of Wilmington; a niece, whom she raised, Cathy E. Thomas; three sisters, Emma Brewington of Seaford, and Cora M. Bailey and Angeline Smith, both of Bridgeville; a brother, Theodore Benson of Bridgeville; an aunt, Betty Williams of Darby, Pa.; special friends and caregivers, Ralph and Agnes Taylor, Sara Tinsley and Wilson Collins, all of Harrington; two grandchildren, Antonio Schockley of Wilmington and Janelle Anderson of Akron, Ohio; and a great-grandchild.
Service will be 1 p.m., Saturday at Mt. Zion AME Church, Queen and Fulton streets in Dover, where friends may call one hour prior to service.
Burial will be in the Williamsville Cemetery, Williamsville.

Phyllis June Baltz, 67
MILLVILLE - Phyllis June Baltz of Millville, formerly of Lancaster, Pa. died after a lengthy illness Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, in her home surrounded by her family and friends. She was 67.
Mrs. Baltz was born in Denver, Pa., the daughter of the late Fannie and Howard Stoltz.
She was a wonderful homemaker and occasionally worked outside the home throughout her many years. Additionally, Mrs. Baltz was an entrepreneur of sorts, making homemade candies, collecting antiques and children's collectibles. Of special interest was Mickey Mouse memorabilia.
Despite the difficulties of the past year, she managed to keep her spirits high and her smile large.
Mrs. Baltz had a special place in her heart for children and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She loved spending time beside her water garden in quiet reflection and, in contrast, making regular trips to the casinos and playing cards with a multitude of friends. Although unable to fish in recent years, she was an avid fisherwoman, seen regularly at Indian River Inlet during the changing tides in search of tautog.
She had many friends that will deeply miss her, but will always remember her grand spirit and laugh.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy and three brothers, Howard, Fred, and Luther.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Richard S. Baltz; a daughter and her husband, Susan and Ralph Galbreath of Dagsboro; a son, R. Scott Baltz of Mount Desert Island, Maine; a brother, Bobby Stoltz of Denver; three sisters, Elizabeth Sayer of Ephrata, Pa, Anna Short of Denver and Imogene Gorton of Lititz, Pa.; and her grandchildren, Chelsea, Tyler and Logan.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan, 21 at the Mariner's Bethel United Methodist Church, Ocean View.
Burial was private.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to: Delaware Hospice/Southern Division, 600 N. DuPont Highway, Georgetown, DE 19947.

James 'Gary' Brown, 51
EARLEVILLE, Md. - James "Gary" Brown, of Earleville died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, in Union Hospital. He was 51.
Mr. Brown was born Nov. 4, 1949, the son of Diane Wiederspahn Brown and the late James Nelson Brown.
He was a 1968 graduate of Bohemia High School.
Mr. Brown served in the U.S. Navy from 1969 to 1973.
He was a machinist/welder by trade working for Erectrix in Wilmington, Del., for the past 10 years.
Mr. Brown enjoyed hunting and fishing.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Shelley and Tim Dougherty of Middletown, Del.; a brother, Barry Brown of Rising Sun; a sister, Cheryl Banks of Middletown and companion, Paula Raech of Earleville.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Dennis Roman Catholic Church, Galena, Md.
Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., Galena.
Burial will be in Galena Cemetery.
Instead of flowers, family suggests memorial contributions may be made to: Cecilton Volunteer Fire Co. and Ambulance Fund, Box 565, Cecilton, MD 21913.

Paul P.J. Chiprowski, 62
FELTON - Paul P.J. Chiprowski of Felton died Tuesday Jan. 9, 2001, in his home. He was 62.
Mr. Chiprowshi was born in Yonkers, N.Y., the son of the late Peter and Sophie Mytych Chiprowski.
He had served in the U.S. Air Force for 25 years. He retired in 1981 with the rank of senior master sergeant.
He had served as a communications systems manager for public safety for 15 years, retiring in 1999.
Active in community affairs, Mr. Chiprowski was a longtime member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Dover, where he had been involved in youth activities and was an active member of the Alliance of the Two Hearts in Dover.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Petra Chiprowski; two sons, Thomas P. Chiprowski of Ft. Belvoir, Va., and Michael P. Chiprowski of Wilmington, N.C.; a sister, Patricia Hartwell of Indiana, Pa.; and two grandchildren, Thomas P. Chiprowski, Jr. of Ft. Belvoir, and Austin M. Chiprowski of Wilmington, N.C.
Friends may call 7-9 p.m. today at the Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso, 1175 S. State St. Dover.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Cross Church, 631 S. State St., Dover.
Burial with military honors will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Dover.

Mabel Roberts Deakyne, 94
SEAFORD - Mabel Roberts Deakyne of Seaford died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, in Seaford Center Genesis Elder Care, Seaford. She was 94.
Mrs. Deakyne was born in Faber, Va., the daughter of the late John Watson and Nellie Dawson Roberts.
She was a bookkeeper for the city of Seaford, retiring in 1971 after 34 years of service. Prior to that she worked for Eastern Shore Public Service and taught school in Seaford in a one-room schoolhouse.
Mrs. Deakyne was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Soroptomist Club, Businesswomen's Association, Ladies Auxiliary of the Seaford Volunteer Fire Dept., an avid bridge player and a Baltimore Oriole baseball fan.
She is preceded in death by her first husband, Theodore A. Gleason, who died in 1935 and her second husband, J. Frank Deakyne, who died in 1952.
She is survived by two daughters, Patricia A. Charlton of Hurricane, W. Va., and Shirley G. MacArthur of Seaford; a sister, Worth Dofflemayer of Faber, Va.; five grandchildren, Eric Kraemer of Herndon, Va., John Kraemer of Chesapeake, Va., Judy Ann Briggs of Charlston, S.C., Mary Jane MacArthur of Melbourne, Fla., and Ron MacArthur of Seaford; and seven great grandchildren.
Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at St. John's United Methodist Church, Pine & Poplar streets, Seaford, with the Rev. R. Jervis Cooke officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to service.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Seaford.

George Kenneth Gerard Sr., 53
MILLSBORO - George Kenneth Gerard Sr. of Millsboro died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. He was 53.
Mr. Gerard was born in Wilmington, the son of the late Henry and Bertha Broadbent Gerard.
He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
He was a probation officer at the Office of Probation and Parole in Georgetown from 1991-1998, retiring due to illness.
Mr. Gerard was a member of the American Legion Post 28 in Oak Orchard/Riverdale.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Janice Vickers Gerard of Millsboro; a son, George Kenneth Gerard Jr. of Millsboro; two brothers, Gerald Gerard of Dersingham, England and Richard Gerard of Wilmington; and several nieces and nephews.
Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call one hour prior to service. The Rev. Dr. James C. Vander Wall will officiate.

Bishop James E. Hanzer, 78
GEORGETOWN - Bishop James E. Hanzer of Georgetown died Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. He was 78.
Bishop Hanzer was born Jan. 24, 1922, in Ellendale.
He graduated from Ellendale High School.
Bishop Hanzer did farm work, and truck driving for L.D. Caulk Co., retiring after 22 years. In the 1960s, he built St. Mary Holiness Church in Georgetown, and in the 1970s, he became vice bishop for Welcome Full Gospel Holiness Church in Slaughter Neck. He later became bishop for St. Mary Holiness Church and the Welcome Full Gospel Holiness Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Rosemarie Williams; two brothers and a sister.
He is survived by his wife, Oader L. Hanzer of Georgetown; four sons, Timothy Hanzer of Millsboro, James Hanzer of Felton, Paul Hanzer of Seaford and Bernard Hanzer of Richmond, Va.; four daughters, Mary Hanzer of Columbia. S.C., Gladys Johnson of Dover, Lorraine Harris of Dover and Barbara Hanzer of Seaford; two sisters and their husbands, Marguerite and Bermis Duffy of Milton and Betty and Coley Winstead of Boston, Mass.; a sister-in-law, Chattie Sabb of Georgetown; 31 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday at the St. Mary Holiness Church in Georgetown and at 7:30 p.m. at the Welcome Full Gospel Holiness Church in Slaughter Neck.
Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Welcome Full Gospel Holiness Church in Slaughter Neck.
Burial will be in People Memorial Park, Lewes.

Margret Lucy Redmon, 90
SALAMANCA, N.Y. - Margret Lucy Redmon, of Salamanca, formerly of Rehoboth Beach, Del., and Harrington, Del., died Monday, March 31, 2003, in the Waters of Salamanca Nursing Home, Salamanca. She was 90.
Mrs. Redmon was born in Harrington, daughter of the late George and Mary (Hopkins) Hanson. At the age of 3 years, Mrs. Redmon went to live with and was raised by Nellie and Lewis Jones after the death of her mother.
She graduated from Harrington High School and then continued on to receive her bachelor of science degree in education.
She worked as a second-grade teacher in the Harrington School District for 30 years, retiring in the 1960s.
Mrs. Redmon was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Harrington, and was a charter member and served as the first president of the C.K.R.T. Post 7, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Andrew Jerread, in 1963; and her second husband, George Redmon, in 1997; a son, Charles L. Jerread in September 2002; and a brother, Fred Hanson.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, George H. and Ruby Jerread, of Salamanca; three grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and her close friends with whom she grew up, Jeannette Holloway, of Harrington, and her daughter, Janice Welch, of Rehoboth Beach.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Hollywood Cemetery, Milford-Harrington Highway, Harrington.

Andrew C. Taylor Sr., 59
MILLSBORO - Andrew C. Taylor Sr., of Millsboro, died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, in his home. He was 59.
Mr. Taylor was born in Snow Hill, Md., son of Maisie Taylor Sturgis Collins, of Snow Hill, and the late Reese Sturgis.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Mr. Taylor worked at the Indian River power plant, near Dagsboro, for 30 years, retiring in 2002.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Mae Irvin Taylor, in 1989.
He is survived by a son, Andrew C. Taylor Jr., of Millsboro; two daughters, Karen Mays, of Haddonfield, N.J., and Kimberly Tapman, of Newark; seven brothers, Larry Taylor, William Sturgis, Donald Sturgis, Reese Sturgis and Ronnie Sturgis, all of Wilmington, Benjamin Sturgis, of Clearwater, Fla., and Jesse Sturgis, of Girdletree, Md.; and a granddaughter, Kayla Tapman.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday in the Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, near Millsboro.

Edward W. Tripp, 74
DOVER - Edward W. Tripp, of Dover, died of natural causes Tuesday, April 1, 2003, in St. Francis Hospital, Wilmington. He was 74.
Mr. Tripp was born Dec. 7, 1928, in Henderson, Md., son of the late Edward and Nettie Kemp Tripp
He was a 50-year resident of the Dover area. He retired from Playtex after 41 years.
Mr. Tripp enjoyed fishing and hunting, and loved his rabbit dogs and coon dogs. He also enjoyed bluegrass and gospel music. He raced in local pony clubs.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Frederick Tripp, LeRoy Tripp and Albert Tripp.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Elizabeth Tripp, whom he married Sept. 13, 1947; two sons, Edward Tripp Jr., of Woodside, and William Edward Tripp, of Dover; a daughter, Sharon Tripp Jester, of Dover; seven grandchildren, Heidi Pearson, Heather Lappley, Eddie Tripp III, Angel Tripp, Stephanie Jester, Aaron Jester and Tommy Jester; and seven great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in Fleegle-Helfenbein Funeral Home P.A., 106 W. Sunset Ave., Greensboro, Md.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
Burial will be in Mount Olive Cemetery, Felton.

Gary Lee Walker, 55
LAUREL - Gary Lee Walker, of Laurel, died of complications of cancer Tuesday, April 1, 2003, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. He was 55.
Mr. Walker was a bus driver for DART (Delaware Authority for Regional Transit).
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Debbie Walker; a son, Brian M. Walker, of Laurel; a daughter, Kathleen Aldrich, of Sterling, Va.; two grandchildren, Brianna and Autumn Walker; a brother, Stephen Walker, of Laurel, Md.; and a sister, Regina Walker of York, Pa.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in the Cranston Funeral Home, 300 Shipley St., Seaford, where friends may call one hour earlier.

Anna Westerman, 94
SMYRNA - Anna Westerman, of Smyrna, died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, in the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill. She was 94.
Mrs. Westerman was born July 20, 1908 in Chester, Pa., daughter of the late Elias Clayton and Anna M. Stewart Clayton.
She enjoyed playing the organ and giving lessons.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Westerman, in 1964; two daughters, Ruth Jones and Ann Forristall; and a brother, Albert Clayton.
She is survived by 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Eglington Cemetery, Clarksboro, N.J.

Dorothy A. Burson, 84
MILFORD - Dorothy A. Burson of Milford, formerly of Washington, Pa., died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, in the Milford Center, Genesis Eldercare, Milford. She was 84.
Mrs. Burson was born in Pittsburgh, daughter of the late William and Lillian (Gough) Arnold.
She was a graduate of Peabody High School in Pittsburgh. She graduated from Washington Hospital School of Nursing in Washington, Pa., in 1937, becoming a registered nurse.
Mrs. Burson worked for more than 30 years as a school nurse in the Trinity Area School District in Washington, Pa., retiring in 1983.
She moved to Milford in 1997.
Mrs. Burson was an honorary member of the Washington Current Events Club, where she served as treasurer for 13 years, a member and past president of the Washington County Chapter of School Retirees, a member of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees and of the Lady Hogue Rebekah Lodge of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Washington for more than 50 years and, after moving to Milford, became a member of the Avenue United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Burson, in 1980; and a twin brother, Lloyd R. Arnold, in 1997.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara B. and David N. Rutt of Milford; a grandson, Andrew W. Rutt of Milford; and a sister, Esther A. Spanish, of Washington, Pa.
Service will be at Washington, Pa.
Burial will be in Beallsville Cemetery, Beallsville, Pa.

Elsie M. Cordrey, 79
MILLSBORO - Elsie M. Cordrey of Millsboro died of heart failure Tuesday, April 3, 2001, in Lewes Convalescent Center. She was 79.
Ms. Cordrey was a native of Millsboro.
She was a homemaker and lived on her farm until January of this year.
She was a lifelong member of Zoar United Methodist Church of Millsboro, where she taught Sunday school for many years and was a charter member and past president of the church's W.S.C.S.
She was preceded in death by her parents, W. Clayton Cordrey and Blanche Dodd Cordrey.
Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck Road and Del. 24, Long Neck, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Arthur Backus and Rev. Edward Wilkins will officiate.
Burial will be in the Millsboro Cemetery.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Zoar United Methodist Church, Road 2, Box 155, Millsboro, DE 19966.

Anne M. Davis, 84
MILTON - Anne M. Davis of Milton, formerly of Bethel Township, Pa., died Monday, April 2, 2001, in Green Valley Terrece, Millsboro. She was 84.
Mrs. Davis was born in Ellendale, daughter of the late Walter and Anne Smith Reynolds.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Davis worked for Strawbridge & Clothier in Wilmington.
She enjoyed flying and bowling.
Mrs. Davis was a member of the Milton Senior Citizens, a member of the Siloam U.M. Church in Boothwyn, Pa., and attended Goshen U.M. Church in Milton.
She is survived by her husband, Harold C. Davis; a son, Tom Davis of Milton; a daughter, Mary Ann Sylvester of Milford; a sister, Jane Stevenson of Milford and three grandchildren, a great-grandchild.
Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton.
