Kathryn A.M. Quade, 50
BETHANY BEACH - Kathryn A.M. Quade of Bethany Beach, formerly of Baltimore, died Friday, Feb. 14, 2003, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. She was 50.
Ms. Quade was a resource control specialist for the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control.
She was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Bethany Beach.
She is survived by her parents, Helen and Joseph Quade Jr. of Bethany Beach; three brothers, Joseph H. Quade III, Capt. David B. Quade and Thomas J. Quade; and two sisters, Linda Quade and Louise Mussienko.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Ann's Catholic Church, Del. 26, Bethany Beach.
Burial will be private.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Covenant House for Homeless Children, c/o Helen Quade, 961 Lake View Drive, Bethany Beach, DE 19930-9675.

James Noble Smith, 75
ELLENDALE - James Noble Smith of Ellendale died Friday, Feb. 14, 2003, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital. He was 75.
Mr. Smith was born in Georgetown, son of the late James Noble Smith and Rosa Willey Smith.
He had served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Smith worked as a farmer his entire life.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Pauline Wees and Norma Lecates.
He is survived by three sons, James Noble Smith of Seaford, Dale Franklin Smith of Ellendale, and Harry Lee Smith of Elkton, Md.; a daughter, Belinda Sue Moore of Elkton; a brother Ernest Smith; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in the Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Dodd-Carey Chapel, 307 North Bedford St., Georgetown, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will follow in McColley's Church Cemetery, near Georgetown.

Dorothy Rose Sterling, 88
FREDERICA - Dorothy Rose Sterling of Frederica, formerly of Crisfield, Md., died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003, in her home, surrounded by her family. She was 88.
Mrs. Sterling was born July 31, 1914, in Crisfield, Md., one of 12 children, daughter of the late Elijah and Ella (Bennett) Bethard.
While in Delaware, she worked for Bethard's Grocery Store in Dover and later for Woolco Department Store.
Mrs. Sterling was a member of Capitol Baptist Church, Dover.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon "Dick" Sterling Jr. in 1961.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Dixie and Jack Evans of Frederica, with whom she lived and Patricia Ann and Donald Hinman of Satellite Beach, Fla.; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Capitol Baptist Church, 401 Kesselring Ave., Dover, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Sunny Ridge Memorial Cemetery, Crisfield.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Capitol Baptist Church, 401 Kesselring Ave., Dover, DE 19904.

Arlene M. Tapp, 75
LEWES - Arlene M. Tapp of Lewes died Friday, Feb. 14, 2003, in her home. She was 75.
Mrs. Tapp worked for the Department of Defense in the Washington area, where she served in administration. She retired in 1981 after 30 years of service.
She was a devoted volunteer for the Beebe Medical Center Ladies Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert R. Tapp in 1997.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, David T. Kuhn and Janice Bigelow Kuhn, both of Falls Church, Va.; a stepdaughter, Mary Anne Appleton of Chantilly, Va.; a stepson, John R. Tapp of O'Fallon, Ill.; a sister, Esther Szymanski of Cheektowaga, N.Y.; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 1449 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be private.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions may be made to the Beebe Medical Center Ladies Auxiliary, Lewes.

Robert F. Carpenter Jr., 85
MITCHVILLE, Md. - Robert F. Carpenter Jr. of Mitchville died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, in Collington Episcopal Life Care, Mitchville. He was 85.
Mr. Carpenter was born Dec. 31, 1917, in Felton, Del., son of the late Robert F. and Ethel M. Rentz Carpenter. He grew up in Frederica, Del.
He entered the United States Air Force in 1940 and was commissioned a lieutenant colonel in 1943.
During his military career, he was a bomber pilot in World War II in the Pacific Theatre and served during the Korean Conflict. He retired in 1960 after 20 years of service to his country.
After retirement from the Air Force, Mr. Carpenter was employed for 12 years with the Civil Service in Suitland, at the Navy Photographic Interpretation Center.
He was an avid golfer and a lifelong fisherman and hunter.
Mr. Carpenter was a member of the Masons.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Carpenter; and a sister, Dorothy Minner.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Alice B. Carpenter; two sons and daughters-in-law; Robert F. III and JoAnn Carpenter of Chevy Chase and Brian A. and Cheryl Carpenter of Gambrills; and three grandchildren, Stephanie Vaughn, Shannon Carpenter and Meredith Carpenter.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday in the Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave., Milford, Del., where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in the Barratts Chapel Cemetery, Frederica.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 2680, North Canton, OH, 44720.

Margaret A. Sharpe, 79
FREDERICA - Margaret A. Sharpe of Frederica died of heart failure Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, in her daughter's home. She was 79.
Services have been rescheduled to 1 p.m. Friday in the Price Funeral Home, 6 Dorman St., Harrington, where friends may call two hours earlier.
Burial will be in the Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Heart Association, 1151 Walker Road, Suite 202, Dover, DE 19904.

John J. 'Sonny' Davis Jr., 71
NEW CASTLE - John J. "Sonny" Davis Jr. of New Castle died of cancer Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, in Christiana Hospital of Christiana Care, Newark. He was 71.
Mr. Davis was a graduate of Wilmington High School, class of 1950. He also attended Temple University for commercial art.
During the Korean conflict, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps and was awarded a National Defense Service Metal.
Upon leaving the Marine Corps, he became a Delaware State Police trooper. He was seriously injured in 1959 protecting the Rayfield Home in Collins Park during the riot. He underwent operations to repair the physical damage but was forced to retire. He remained loyal to and in contact with the Delaware State Police. After his police career ended, he became the owner of the Mac Abee's record store in Wilmington. He then joined Ferris School for Boys as a juvenile field investigator, then was promoted to correctional security superintendent. Still desiring to be in the justice system, he pursued his ambition to become director of internal affairs for the state Department of Correction, from which he retired in 1995.
Mr. Davis was a member of the Red Devil football team. Over the remaining years of his life, he was an active member of the Retired Association of State Police and was very involved in visits to ailing retired state troopers over the past years. He also was a member of American Legion Stahl Post 30 and coached football and soccer for Our Lady of Fatima Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and John Davis.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Marie Austin Davis; a sister, Phyllis Dougherty of Newark; a brother, Willard Davis of Millsboro; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Friends may call from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Sunday in McCrery Memorial Chapel, Kirkwood Highway and Duncan Road, near Wilmington.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday in the chapel.
Burial will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Delaware State Police Museum, P.O. Box 430, Dover, DE 19903-0430.
