James Warner 'Jim' Baxter Sr., 66
SMYRNA - James Warner "Jim" Baxter Sr. of Smyrna, formerly of Newark, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, in Christiana Hospital of Christiana Care, Newark. He was 66.
Mr. Baxter was born June 12, 1936, in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, son of Elva L. Baxter of Newark and the late Stanley V. Baxter.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
Mr. Baxter, for the past 35 years, was the president of Delaware Tire Centers Inc. in Newark, Dover and Salisbury, Md.
He was an avid golfer.
Mr. Baxter was a member and former vice-president of the Better Business Bureau of Delaware, and a member of Newark Country Club.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Douglas Baxter.
He is survived by five children from his marriage to Arlene Mathews Baxter of Elkton, Md. and the respective spouses of four, Lucinda B. "Cindi" and David A. Repass of Warrenton, Va., Bonnie L. Deysher and John E. "Jack" Deysher Jr. of Salisbury, James W. "Jay" Baxter Jr. and Kristin C. Baxter and Mathew D. and Stacey A. Baxter, all of Newark, and Gabrielle G. Baxter of Wilmington; a brother, Robert Baxter of Southern Pines, N.C.; eight grandchildren, Ryan, Anna, Matthew, James III, Justin, Caitlin, William and Luke; three nieces; and four nephews.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday in the Newark United Methodist Church, 69 E. Main St., Newark.
Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center, c/o Christiana Care Foundation, P.O. Box 1668, Wilmington, DE 19899.

Betty Coleman Benton, 86
SUDLERSVILLE, Md. - Betty Coleman Benton of Sudlersville died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, peacefully after a prolonged illness in her home. She was 86.
Mrs. Benton was born near IB in Chestertown, daughter of the late Leroy Hodge Coleman, Jr., and Rena Dewey Walls Coleman.
She graduated from Church Hill High School in 1932.
Mrs. Benton drove a school bus as an independent contractor for 30 years.
She enjoyed her gardening and sharing her plentiful bounty with family and friends. Mrs. Benton was a kind, loving, gentle person who had a great love and concern for people. She touched many with her generosity, giving and serving. She was an angel God was waiting for to come to heaven.
Mrs. Benton was a member of the Top of the Hill Club, Sudlersville Community Betterment Club, Sudlersville Homemakers Club and a devoted member of Calvary-Asbury United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Everett and Skeet Coleman.
She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Bo Benton; a daughter, Joyce Benton of Chestertown; two sons, Lawrence Wayne Benton of Annapolis and Kenneth C. Benton of Hawaii; four brothers, Hodge and Alan Coleman of Sudlersville, Marion Coleman of Chestertown and Ronald Coleman of Florida; two grandsons, Bill Green of Centreville and Steve Green of Chestertown; five great grandchildren, Zack, Savanna, Sierra "CC" and Spencer Green of Chestertown, and Madison Green of Centreville.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., Millington.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday in Calvary-Asbury Methodist Church in Sudlersville. The Rev. David Doraisingh will officiate.
Burial will be private.

Robert C. Blansfield, 85
REHOBOTH BEACH -Robert C. Blansfield of Rehoboth Beach died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003, in Beebe Medical Center in Lewes. He was 85.
Mr. Blansfield was born in Cecilton, Md., son of the late James E. and Margaret Gonce Blansfield.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He had been employed as a garage mechanic.
Mr. Blansfield loved fishing, bowling and NASCAR racing.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Blansfield of Rehoboth Beach; a daughter, Bonnie Campbell of Newark; a sister, Marie Marcozzi of Newark; and three grandchildren.
Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday in Atkins-Lodge Chapel of Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 1449 Kings Highway, Lewes.
Graveside services and burial will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in Hickory Grove Cemetery in Port Penn. The Rev. Sam Houchins will officiate.

Josephine V. Hamer, 90
REHOBOTH BEACH - Josephine V. Hamer of Rehoboth Beach died Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, in her home. She was 90.
Mrs. Hamer was born in Keyser, W.Va., daughter of the late Joseph and Bertie Oates Bissett.
She had formerly worked as an assembler for the Westinghouse Corp.
Mrs. Hamer was a member of Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Abbott Hamer, in 1984.
She is survived by two sons, Ralph Hamer of Rehoboth Beach and Squire Ernest Hamer of Charles Town, W.Va.; a brother, Charles Tysinger of Keyser; 15 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 7 p.m. today in Atkins-Lodge Chapel of Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 1449 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may call one hour earlier. The Rev. Charlie Arnold will officiate.
Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Park Inc. in Glen Burnie, Md.

Karl E. Heim, 62
DAGSBORO - Karl E. Heim of Dagsboro, formerly of Binghamton, N.Y., died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, in his home after a brief illness. He was 62.
Mr. Heim recently retired from the Stockley Center in Georgetown, where he was a registered nurse for 12 years.
He loved fishing, gardening, and Syracuse basketball games.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Kristopher and Kyle Heim; his father, Edward Heim; and a sister, Carol Martin.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Heim; two daughters and a son-in-law, Kerrie, and Kelly and Shawn Neville; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Nicholas Heim and Todd and Jennifer Skinner; two grandchildren, Morgan Leigh Neville and Jacob Skinner; a sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Morris Rosen; his mother, Magdelena Heim; his mother-in-law, Emminetta Elmore; and a host of nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
A memorial mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Ann's Catholic Church, Bethany Beach.
Burial will be in private.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 163, Salisbury, MD 21805.

Mary Wallace Hopkins, 74
NEWARK - Mary Wallace Hopkins of Newark died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, in Christiana Hospital. She was 74.
Mrs. Hopkins was born Sept. 17, 1928, in Claymont, daughter of the late John T. and Susanna Gill Wallace.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing, crafts, knitting, reading and word games.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Hopkins Quinn.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Vaughn Hopkins; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Donna J. and Gregory Reiter of Newark, Susan E. Hopkins of Christiana, and Grace Robin and Stephen Russell and Karen D. Howard, all of Wilmington; three sisters, Mildred Cox of Hartly, Estella Cox of Smyrna and Joan Cox of Newark; three sisters-in-law, Susan Hopkins of New Castle, Clara Radcliff of Pearl, Miss., and Grace Milewski of Avondale, Pa.; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Sunday in Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 S. Main St., Smyrna.
Burial will be private.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the American Heart Association, 1151 Walker Road, Suite 202, Dover, DE 19904.

Anna Mae Johns, 71
FELTON - Anna Mae Johns of Felton died Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 71.
Mrs. Johns was born Oct. 1, 1931, in Felton, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Herbert and Ruth Quail. She lived nearly all of her life in Viola and Felton, and will be remembered for her vibrant and magnetic personality. She always had a smile and kind word for those she came in contact with and those who knew her.
Mrs. Johns worked at Green Giant Foods for nearly 10 years until it closed, and continued working in the domestic field until her health failed.
She is survived by her very close personal friend and companion of 17 years, Mr. Henery Guinn of Felton; five brothers, Paul and Barrett Quail of Dover, James and Herold Quail of Felton and Theodore Quail of Frederica; four sisters, Dorothy Morris of Camden, Delores LaSalle and Margaret Quail of Felton and Arnetta Brooks of Dover; four aunts, Margaret King of Felton, Elsie Hicks of Star Hill, Louise Conquest of Harrington and Libby Butcher of West Chester, Pa.; an uncle, Leroy Butcher of West Chester; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and her extended family, the Guinn family and friends. She will be sorely missed.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in Bennie Smith Funeral Home, 717 W. Division St., Dover, where friends may call one hour earlier.

Paul D. McNatt Jr., 75
MILFORD - Paul D. McNatt Jr. of Milford died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital, Milford. He was 75.
Mr. McNatt was born July 2, 1927, in Milford, son of the late Paul D. and Susan Palmer McNatt.
He was employed for 38 years as a truck driver with Burris Trucking before retiring there. His longtime experience and knowledge of the industry brought him back to work as a driver and dispatcher for TRP Trucking in Wye Mills, Md., then to Blue Hen Lines in Milford as a dispatcher, and finally to the traffic department of Parker Express in Newark.
He enjoyed baseball, basketball, golf and bowling.
Mr. McNatt was past president and vice president of the Milford Little League and was involved with the church baseball league in Milford. He was also an organizer of the National Guard Basketball League and a member of Shawnee Country Club and First Presbyterian Church, both in Milford.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Doris M. McNatt; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary W. and Betsy McNatt of Columbia, Tenn., and Eugene B. and Carolyn McNatt of Milton; five grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth McNatt, Jaime McNatt, Michael Cohan, Christopher Cohan and Benjamin Rosson; and a nephew and his wife, Joseph Jr. and Linda Parker, and their son, Joseph Parker III.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave., Milford, where friends may call one hour prior earlier.
Burial will be private.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 172, Milford, DE, 19963.
