Annie Mae Taylor, 87
CAMBRIDGE, Md. - Annie Mae Taylor of Cambridge died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, in Mallard Bay Nursing Home, Cambridge. She was 87.
Mrs. Taylor was born April 3, 1913, in Chester, Md.
She received her education in the public schools in Centreville, Md.
Mrs. Taylor worked at Coastal Foods, Tuna and Clayton Crab House in Cambridge.
She was preceded in death by two children, Arnold Smith and Betty Windsor.
She is survived by her four children, Clarance Smith of Grasonville, Frances (Taylor), Lula (Mack) Wongus, and Diane (Mack) Farrara, all of Cambridge; Alonza Mack, Jr. of Casselberry, Fla; 27 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m., today at Bennie Smith Funeral Home in Cambridge.
Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

John R. 'Jack' Townsend Sr., 73
TOWNSEND - John R. "Jack" Townsend Sr. of Wilmington died from complications of diabetes Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, in Christiana Hospital, Newark. He was 73.
Mr. Townsend graduated from the Goldey Beacon Business College in Wilmington. He then began his career as an accountant for Bunting's Nursery in Selbyville, Murray's Feed Service in Frankford, Masten Transportation in Milford and retired from the Delaware Division of Child Support Enforcement Agency in 1992.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George P. and Georgie E. Townsend; one brother, William S. Townsend; and a sister, Blanche L. Temple.
He is survived by a brother, George H. Townsend; three sons, John R. Jr., and his wife Susan of Dagsboro, Donald C. and his wife, Alicia of Downingtown, Pa., and Roy G. of Selbyville; a brother, G. Victor Townsend of Vancouver, Wash.; and four grandchildren, Michelle Nicole, James Russell "Rusty", Nicole Frances and Michael Arthur.
Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at St. George's United Methodist Church in Clarksville.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to American Diabetes Assoc., 110 S. French St., Wilmington, DE 19805.

John Charles Barcus, 80
CENTREVILLE, Md. - John Charles Barcus, of Centreville, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, in Memorial Hospital, Easton. He was 80.
Mr. Barcus was born March 14, 1920, the son of the late William James and Alice Rousie Storey Barcus.
He attended school in Willoughby and he made his home with his parents until their deaths, when he moved to Centreville.
He is survived by three sisters, Alice Dwyer, of Mount Airy, Loretta Carlin, of Clifton Heights, Pa., and Nellie R. Shortall, of Lewes, Del.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of the Maryland Veteran Cemetery, Hurlock.
Arrangements are by Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, Centreville.

Patricia J. Bryk, 66
SMYRNA - Patricia J. Bryk, of Smyrna, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, in her home, with her family by her side.
Mrs. Bryk was born in St. Louis, Mo., the daughter of the late Dr. Elmer B. Casey and Theresa J. Casey.
She attended Visitation Academy and graduated as a registered nurse from St. John's School of Nursing, both of St. Louis.
Mrs. Bryk moved to Delaware in 1963, and had worked as a student health nurse at Delaware State University and as an industrial health nurse at General Foods, Dover, for a number of years.
She was a member of St. Polycarp Parish in Smyrna, where she served as cantor for many years, and she was also a member of the Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, retired Air Force Maj. Stanley L. Bryk, of Smyrna; three sons, Paul Bryk, of Newark, Steven Bryk, of Newtown, Pa., and Eric Bryk of Cumming, Ga.; two daughters, Jeanne Tanner,of Tucker, Ga. and Rene Bookoff, of Phoenix, Md.; and seven grandchildren.
Friends may call 6:30-9 p.m. Thursday at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna.
Mass of Christian burial will be offered 11 a.m. Friday at St. Polycarp Catholic Church, Ransom Lane and South Street, Smyrna.
Burial will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Newark.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the: St. Polycarp School for Christian Education, 135 Ransom Lane, Smyrna, DE 19977.

Mildred L. Collins, 94
MILLSBORO - Mildred L. Collins, of Millsboro, died Monday Jan. 8, 2001, in the home of her grandson, Kevin Collins. She was 94.
Mrs. Collins was born in Ocean City, Md., the daughter of the late Grover and Hester Truitt Calloway.
She was a foster grandparent with the Stockley Center in Georgetown for 17 years, retiring in 1985.
Mrs. Collins was a member of the Zoar United Methodist Church, Millsboro.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Twiford Collins, who died in 1973.
She is survived by a son, Donald T. Collins, and his wife, Betty Jo, of Millsboro; a daughter, Mary Louise Ward and her husband, J. Donald, of Laurel, three brothers, Tom Calloway, of Milford, Joe Callaway, of Port Richey, Fla., and Richard Callaway, of Georgia; two sisters Doris Dennis, of Ocean City, and Florence Morris, of Millsboro; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, with the Rev. Edward Wilkins and the Rev. Arthur Bachus officiating, and where friends may call one hour prior to service.
Burial will be in Millsboro Cemetery, Millsboro.

Geneva Taylor Cherry, 77
DOVER - Geneva Taylor Cherry, of Felton, formerly of Dover, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, in Bayhealth-Kent General Medical Center, Dover. She was 77.
Mrs. Cherry was born Sept. 29, 1923, in Rocky Mount, N.C., the son of the late Thomas and Minnie Tyndell Taylor.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Cherry liked to play bingo and cards, listen to country music, and was a NASCAR fan.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Henry Adams Sr., a son, John Henry Adams Jr., and her second husband, Romy "Ed" Cherry.
She is survived by four daughters, Patricia Barefoot, Peggy Thurman and her husband, Ronnie, all of Rocky Mount, Betty Rezmer and her husband, Harold, of Fullerton, Calif., Linda Grace and her husband, Eddie, (with whom she lived), of Felton; two sons, Joe Adams and his wife, Alice, and Marvin Adams, all of Rocky Mount; a daughter-in-law, Mae Adams, of Rocky Mount; 20 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Fleischauer Funeral Home in Greenwood, where friends may call one hour prior to service.
Burial will be in Sharon Hills Cemetery, Dover.

Ernestine E. Edwards, 75
LEWES - Ernestine E. Edwards, of Lewes, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, in her home. She was 75.
Mrs. Edwards retired in 1989 from Beebe Medical Center, where she had worked as a coronary care nurse during a career of 30 years both with the hospital and private duty.
She was known as a very talented individual in the area for many years. Her many talents included canvas painting of all types, stained glass creations, knitting (especially scenes in sweaters) and her famous cooking talents, which won her three awards in the Delmarva Chicken Festival over the years.
Mrs. Edwards was a member and had held several offices in the Swaanendael Club of Lewes. She was also a member of the Swaanendael Ladies Investment Club (SLIC).
She was preceded in death by a son, James Randall Edwards, in 1989.
She is survived by her husband, James L. Edwards, of Lewes; a daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Bill Downes, of Broken Arrow, Okla., and their two children; a son and daughter-in-law, David K. and June Edwards, of Lewes, and their five children; a granddaughter and her husband, Missy and Ronnie Williamson, and their son, D.J.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 1449 Kings Highway, Lewes.
Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Pastor Charlie Arnold will officiate.
Burial will be in Bethel Methodist Cemetery, Lewes.

Willie Mae Smith Berryhill, 96
THOMASTON, Ga. - Willie Mae Smith Berryhill of Thomaston died Thursday, April 3, 2003, in Riverside Nursing Care Center. She was 96.
Mrs. Berryhill was born in Beckley County, Ga.
She was retired from B.F. Goodrich Mill where she worked for more than 34 years as a spinner.
Mrs. Berryhill was a member of Clarks Chapel Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvan Berryhill.
She is survived by two sons, J.B. (Celia) Berryhill of Thomaston, Ga. and William Berryhill of Camden, Del.; a brother, Hewey Smith of Thomaston, Ga.; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home, Thomaston.
Services will be 2 p.m. today in the funeral home. The Rev. Charles Bennett will officiate.
Burial will be in Crystal Hill Cemetery, Thomaston.

Joanne Dees Bradley, 68
MILFORD - Joanne Dees Bradley of Milford died, after a fearless battle with cancer, Thursday, April 3, 2003, in her home, surrounded by her family. She was 68.
Mrs. Bradley was born Jan. 20, 1935, in Pittsburgh, daughter of the late Jim and Mary Dees.
She grew up and made her home in Milford.
Mrs. Bradley worked for several years in retail at Emanuel's Dress Shop in Milford and Hess Apparel in Dover, and eventually retired from Country Craft Shop in Milford.
Her faith in God and love of family were her passion and life. She loved to garden and cherished her home, her friends and her pets. She delighted in making hand-painted crafts and flower arrangements for others. She also loved to travel and enjoyed experiencing new and different places. Her travels took her as far north as Alaska and Canada, as far east as Europe and as far west as Hawaii, and included many excursions on the east coast and a cross-country trip with her husband and children.
Through the years, Mrs. Bradley served in various polling positions in Sussex County for primary and general elections, serving as a judge, inspector and poll worker.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, William S. "Bill" Bradley; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Linda and Greg Ellingsworth, Cynthia and Michael Love and Lori Ann Bradley, youngest daughter and neighbor, all of Milford; a son and daughter-in-law, William Michael and Carol Bradley of Milford; seven grandchildren and the respective spouses of two, Jason and Heather Ellingsworth of McGuire Air Force Base, N.J., Laurie and Chris Cale of Fairbanks, Alaska, Billy Bradley, serving with the U.S. Army in Saudi Arabia, Heather Bradley of Camden and Christopher Love, Jennifer Love and Victoria Love, all of Milford; two great-grandchildren, Samantha Ellingsworth and Tristan Ellingsworth; a brother and sister-in-law, James "Jimmy" and Carol Dees of Hampton, Va.; a sister and brother-in-law, Eileen and Robert "Bob" Andrews of Cary, N.C.; nine nieces and nephews; her stepmother, Verna Dees of Florida; and many family members on the Bradley side residing in the Andrewsville-Harrington area.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 N.W. Front St., Milford.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday in St. John's Catholic Church, Milford.
Burial will be in Henlopen Memorial Park, near Milton.

Shirley Doris Calloway, 78
GEORGETOWN - Shirley Doris Calloway of Georgetown died Thursday, April 3, 2003, in her home. She was 78.
Mrs. Calloway was born in Philadelphia, Pa., daughter of the late Frank and Elizabeth "Mack" Smith.
She was a homemaker.
She enjoyed doing crafts and flowers. She also loved spending time with her family whom she loved very much.
Mrs. Calloway was a member of Eagles Nest Fellowship Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings Kenny and Evadane Smith; three sons, James Alfred Calloway, Kenneth Jay Calloway and Ronnie Irving Calloway; and a daughter, Marie Elizabeth Holloway.
She is survived by her husband, William James Calloway; four daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Ronnie Ward of Georgetown, Jane and Mike Parker of Seaford, Millie and Sidney Hudson of Georgetown and Debi and Scott Ward of Laurel; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Linda Calloway of Georgetown; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market Street, Georgetown, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Union Cemetery.

Shirley Margret Campbell, 71
MIDDLETOWN - Shirley Margret Campbell of Middletown died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, Kent General Hosdpital, Dover. She was 71.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Campbell; a daughter, Yvonne Lyles; and mother, Esther Gomez.
She is survived by five sons, Jerome Campbell, Darryl Campbell, Robert Campbell, Mark Campbell and Johnathan Campbell; three daughters, Elsie Y, Saydonia Gordon, Stacey Campbell, all of Delaware; stepfather, Hotshot Gomez; a beloved grandson who cared for her, Stevelyn Campbell; and host of nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
Services will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday in First Pilgrim Baptist Church, Camden.
Burial will be private.

Paul W. Davis, 45
NEWARK - Paul W. Davis of Newark died after a brief battle with cancer Wednesday, April 2, 2003, in Christiana Hospital. He was 45.
Mr. Davis had recently retired after more than 20 years as a partner of Doc's Meat Market in Hockessin.
He enjoyed fishing, travel and cooking.
He was preceded in death by his father, Donald E. Davis, in 1995.
He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Darlene Slaughter; his mother and stepfather, Norma D. and Lawrence Conlin of Wilmington; his brothers and sister, George F. Newberry-Davis and his wife Jan of Lawton, Okla., Carol Mulford and her husband, Leonard of Wilmington, Mark E. Davis of Wilmington and John B. Davis of New Castle; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Edward and Dorothy Slaughter of Townsend; his sister-in-law, Vada Slaughter of East Earl, Pa; and his beloved nieces and nephews, Christina, Bradley, Emma and Andrew.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday in Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Hwy., Elsmere.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home.
Burial will be private.

James Robert Dever, 45
DAGSBORO - James Robert Dever of Dagsboro died of natural causes Wednesday, April 2, 2003, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. He was 45.
Mr. Dever was born in Havertown, Pa., son of James Dever of Havertown and the late Claire (Lewis) Dever.
He served in the U.S. Air Force.
He was employed as a master auto technician by Wright's Chrysler, Seaford.
Mr. Dever was an avid attender of auctions, and was a marksman at pistol and rifle shooting. He was very devoted to his family, and his grandchildren were his hobby. He will be loved and missed dearly by all of his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthia (Morris) Dever; a daughter, Suzanne Morris of Dagsboro; a son, Richard LaFontano of Dagsboro; a brother, Sean Michael Dever of Havertown; three grand-children, Cheyenne Katz and Danny Katz, both of Dagsboro, and Isaiah Johnson of Greenwood; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday in Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Clarksville Chapel, Del. 26 and Del. 17, Clarksville.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday in the Chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery South near Millsboro.

Marie Fields, 73
MILLSBORO - Marie Fields of Millsboro died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, in her home. She was 73.
Mrs. Fields was born in Easley, S.C., daughter of the Deome and Lela Mae Blackwell Upton.
She was a nurse's aide in hospitals, nursing homes and private duty in New Jersey retiring in 1989.
Mrs. Fields attended the Pilgrims Ministry of Deliverance Church, near Georgetown.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Fred Bray.
She is survived by a son, Eddie Watt Jr. of Asbury, N.J.; a daughter, Mary Ann Earl of Millsboro; two brothers, Ben Harley of New York City and Quincy Harley of Durham, N.C.; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Shirley and Henry Crump, and Jessie and Henry Ward, all of New York City, Martha Harley of Columbia, S.C., and Sarah Collins of Miami, Fla.; 14 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and a dear devoted friend of many years, Michael Ross of Millsboro.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call one hour earlier. The Rev. Annie Custis will officiate.
Burial will be in Zoar Golden Acres Cemetery, Bishopville, Md.

Josie Horton, 74
GEORGETOWN - Josie Horton of Georgetown died Monday, March 31, 2003, in her home. She was 74.
Mrs. Horton was born March 24, 1929 in Pickens County, Ala., daughter of the late Mattie and Glover Colvin.
She loved to travel and had been around the world. She was a loving mom and best friend.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Fifine and Pete Brightman of Las Vegas, Nev.; three sisters, Mattie Boga, Berniece Morton and Roxie Brown; two brothers, Edward Colvin and Ellis Colvin; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services will be 2 p.m. today in Bennie Smith Funeral Home in Dover, where friends may call two hours earlier.
